I am from Portugal and carry an O2 XDA since July 02. It fell down and the LCD screen broke....Since I unlatched it to become compatible with my portuguese network provider, I need to find another way to get it fixed.

If you reflash the original rom to the xda I am sure they arent going to check to see if it is unlocked and bearing in mind it is not unlawful to get in unlocked I cant see the problem with sending it in for repair.

Why don't you try the portuguese distributor of Qtek ? Maybe they can help you....

The "case" as you call it is the customization that each cellular provider orders for their version of the Hermes. It would be easier for you to just order an unlocked Hermes in the style that you like, then add in the software settings to enable your cellular services.

Just today i was going through qemu and how ppl are using it to emulate win95 and also 98 on Windows Mobile for example HD2 and i though i would try once, and its running !!!

is it made in taiwan or china ? are there any differences between them ?

On the backside of the phone it's notice "Made in Taiwan" also on the box.
On the battery there is mention "Made in China"
mine says china but its a t8585 model
TMOUS HD2 here & it says Made in China
Mine is T8585 from battery , box, unit it is all made in china
