SMS <To...> not including '+' before number - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I've just upgraded my ROM and now when I send a new SMS message the number from my contacts isn't correctly formatted.
When I select the number it removes the preceeding '+' sign before each number. All my contacts have this number as I'm often abroad and saves re-typing each one.
Is this normal (ie is there a workaround), or is this an error (in which case, is there a fix!!!!??)??
O2 XDA on NL Telfort
Rom Version: 4.00.05 ENG
Rom Date: 06/05/03
Radio Version: 4.21.00
Protocol Version: 32S54
(I can simply re-enter the '+' symbol in the <To...> field each time I wish to send an SMS but this defeats the point!)
Thanks for any help!

Yeah, bloody nuisance this  happens if you do "New" and then select a contact. I have found a work around though, works for me If you open contacts and right-click and select "Send SMS" from context menue, it inserts the complete number, including the + sign.
Hope it helps ...

As far as I know it’s a known bug. Hope it will be fixed. But the problem only exists if you send the SMS from Inbox. If you tap and hold a name from Contact list and select “Send SMS” the ‘+’ will be inserted.

Hi Folks,
Thanks again for all your great work on the site. I was just
wondering if I could pick your brains on an issue that's been
bugging me.
I've searched google with every possible permutation of this
query, and it astonishes me that no-one's covered it - have I
been missing something really obvious?
I'd like to back up my text messages. Inbox doesn't sync them
with Outlook, nor does it offer any kind of backup tool. Short
of copying and pasting the text, date and recipient of each
message into a text file or email, is there a database I can
backup and use?
The reason I ask is because I'm trying to cover every
eventuality for when I flash my generic Spaceneedle with the
T-Mobile ROM that was released recently. I've carefully
catalogued every preference, program and file on my device ready
for fresh reinstallation with the exception of my text messages.
I could, of course, do a backup with Sprite's excellent
software, but I'd rather not do even a partial restore of a
backup from an old ROM version.
Any ideas, folks? Many thanks in advance!

Having studiously backed everything up, made note of all my
settings and got everything set up just perfect...
... the T-Mobile utility won't let me upgrade my device. I
receive a check error showing device differences, and the only
difference appears to be the following:
My model: PW10B1:100
The upgrade's model: PW10B1:002
Can anyone let me know what the differences between the numbers
after the colons are?
This is really frustrating, as in terms of actual hardware my
device is the same as the T-Mobile, and I'd love the increased
speed and stability of the new ROM. Any help?

I'm aware that I can try flashing with the bootloader method,
but I wanted to check that there weren't any known issues first

My update went perfectly well, and I now have the new T-Mobile
ROM working nicely on my generic Spaceneedle with my O2 UK SIM.
Even GPRS works as well as it used to (which is intermittent at
best). Thanks for XDArit!
Subject: ROM Hack
From: mike
Date: 27 Dec, 2002 07:15:31
I was able to hack a ROM file with a hex editor to change its
version number. The version number is found within the first 32
bytes of the ROM file.
You also have to alter the checksum which is a number also found
in those first 32 bytes... three or four hex digits. IT should
be fairly obvious, since
If you increment an ASCII digit, you must also increment the
checksum. Decrement ASCII digit, decrement the checksum. Since
you'll change a 1 to a 0 (-1) and change a 0 to a 2 (+2), your
net change is +1 and you must add 1 to the checksum.
That said, whatever this ROM does to your phone is your risk. I
already screwed up my T-mobile phone, granted that was due to me
flashing the US radio with a European update, this shouldn't be
so bad, but do cross your fingers.

You'll find that the XDArit already supports reading these files
and parsing out the bootloader and WinCE image. (We ignore the
checksum, but write the correct one for the bootloader on the SD
card...)

This is an old fashioned Problem with the PocketPC 2002 ROMs. There is an fix from Paragon Software. You can get it there for free....
OR it´s fixed in the WM2003 ROMs.
You can cook your own at http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
HTH
Stefan
Hang on though - you have rom 3.17 which should have that fix built in.
My guess is that your mobile numbers aren't stored in the mobile number field within Contacts. Cut and paste them over and all should be well.
JD
You'll find the fix here:
http://www.yorch.net/apps.htm
Its called Paragon Software SMS Name Fix
Or download the file directly from here:
http://www.yorch.net/downloads/SMS fix.zip
8)
Problem may be that mobile numbers in contacts have to start +44 (in the UK) and drop the leading zero.
May also need to load them into SIM using SIM manager (not sure on this point!).

It's quite simple, go to MMS settings and select Orange MMS, then under server address, just add a forward slash, so it looks something like:
mms.orange.co.uk/
May sound like a little thing, but it works!

Cheers for that!

Oz "3" Users - Advice on Upgrade

Hi, I've upgrade from the Moto (920/925/1000) phones on the 3Aus network and while I've done lots of upgrading on these platforms I'm a NOOB on the Dopod.
I've read the FAQ and searched the forums and the wealth of info makes the Symbion stuff look tiny....so any advice from 3Aus users on what ROM (or other) upgrade is the go would be terrific. I've got the latest official release and updates flashed already from the DopodAsia site but notice that:
1) I don't have the "band" tab
2) the inbuild voice navigation is utterly terrible (at least for on Oz accent)
Thanks
Nathan
nathan im from OZ and have modified my Dopod... but i really insist on reading the wiki first before you make any changes and you are awake of its consequences if anything was to fail...
Thanks - I've read the Wiki and would look at upgrading during the W'End (so I am not rushed). Just wanted to hear some feedback from a "local"!
Nathan
no worries.... i suggest you read this first before you do any changes http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294012&page=1
mate, I'd look at walshie's sig for some hints
I'm waiting for the x-series in aus to be available before I sign on and get a dopod 838pro as well. So I'm interested in following this thread.
Hi Nathan,
I'm a Three user, based in Melbourne but in Newcastle a fair bit too, and I've flashed my Dopod to the latest HTC AKU3.3 test ROM, including the radio update. Make sure you use the unlocker/superCID first . I'm getting great reception with this latest radio ROM, and the OS is nice and fast too.
You'll have to put the settings for 3Services (thats whats used for the Three website, and email) and the 3MMS settings back in, but its not too hard.
As far as voice recognition, MS Voice Command 1.6 with the fixes from the thread in the "Hermes" forum works fine with an Aussie accent.
Thanks - I've chosen at this stage to stick with ROM Version 1.30.707.4 but flashed SuperCID and upgrade to Radio Version 1.27.00.00 (GER). So far so good!
Good to hear! I'd still reccomend running AKU3.3 test though - its really a great upgrade! I'm a heavy user of mine and its not let me down as often as 1.30.707.4 did.
Out of interest, did you get the reply to the email you sent me? Sometimes Hotmail puts my domain in the junk mail box, just curious to know if it got through OK.
Thanks Kevin, I'm actually re-flashing as we speak as I found that after the SuperSID & Radio upgrade to 1.27 my Dopod "froze" several times today when the screen was off requiring a soft reset.
Couple of Q's:
1) Do I need to re SuperSID after flashing with "RUU_Hermes_HTC_WWE_2.05.255.1_6275_1.34.00.10_108_Test" (is this AKU3.3)?
2) Do you know what are the "3 Australia Settings" I need to re-enter
Thanks
Nathan
PS It was not me on any e-mail!
with the latest flash your installing, is internal GPS enabled??

I've got Phone / External Web / SMS working fine, but am having trouble with the MMS setting and e-mail - i've entered the following info for the WAP account manually - any ideas for "Three in Australia"?
Server Name: 3MMS

Server Address: three.net.au:10021/mmsc

OK got the settings going using:

Just confirming those are the right settings. Remember you can change the name for the connections to make them easier to recognise - I called 3services Planet 3, and I didn't put the Netaccess connection in at all as I do not use the data packs (nor do I wish to until they get cheaper!).
You don't need to SuperCID/Unlock again; it sticks.

Dear brother u r senior enough to have asked this question in the already open thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333165 . However, u should first time enter the name and number save it and then go to contacts open the same contact and edit, u will get a heck of long details u wanna add to this contact.
