Can we get our own E-bay here ?? :) - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I see increasing posts for selling new or used XDA devices. This could be an interesting new forum.
Dear XDA developers ... can you creat new forum for XDA, accessories and spare parts tradings. This would be like a small specialized E-Bay. I would suggest it should be for only offers while the bids can be through private e-mails.
To make it in a democratic way, I added a simple poll 8)
I will be waiting

Yes, but...
It's not a bad idea...
One thing though. What can we do here to make sure it's safe to sell/buy here...
I know ebay (or at least ebays in some countries) requires the seller to register with credit card info and this ensures a certain level "trust" from the seller. If something goes wrong, ebay can follow that up.

since i'm from Romania probably only few of them will sell directly to me.
one method is to use bidpay.com(which implies no risk from the seller but maximum risk on the buyer) or paypal (but for example romania is not accepted in the system).
i've bought using my cc on ebay, bidpay, amazon, various online stores and had no problem.
it can be only an offer zone and the transactions to be processed on ebay.com (probably this can be it)
decebal

simple fact it wont work simply coz theres too many tossers who have internet acess who will rip people off like god knows what.

Dear All ..
Thanks to whoever showed interest . One thing to clarify tho, I didn't mean it to be REALLY like eBay which requires lots of logistics and security, but I just saw many posts across many forums here about selling/buying, and passed my mind the idea of having this separate forum (especially for spare parts and broken devices which most propably won't be found on eBay alikes).
The idea is to get the people connected to each others and let them to decide how to exchange items. No responsibility or laiability should be put on this site (XDA-developers.com).
Anyway, it's nice to see this spirit and discussions ... keep it

Anyone have full licensed Pocket PC Software to give away?..

HI,
realise the pocket pc software are quite expensive... Anyone want to share their license copy, games, utility etc. I guess all can benefit right?... Rather we all purchase on our own.
Or may be we can all chip in to buy.... We can use services like Paypal to remittance money to each other.
Me interested in the Age of Empires Gold Edition. Anyone got a full license one. Nyditot Virtual Display 3.01 ?...
Warezzzz
I'm just speaking for myself here...
I have no major moral objections against copying copyrighted software, but I can also see the point of software companies trying to make a buck. I even co-own a small software company that will be trying to make a buck soon. But please believe me when I say that this is not the reason I'm posting this message.
I would hate to see warez being traded on this system. I've seen what frequent warez trading does to the atmosphere of communities like ours. Before long, professional traders will post requests. People will offer to pay for stuff, warez ftp server addresses 'for-the-day' will be posted, etc. etc. etc.
There's plenty of good forums on Usenet that have plenty of (alt.binaries.)warez posted to them. They have much less good productive atmosphere to waste and they work well.
Omigosh...
Well I don't think warezing software is something terribly wrong (it's not a theft usually), but if somebody likes the software, he should buy it. However, nobody can expect a 18 year old czech student to spend 80 bucks for SSH client he uses once a week.
I think those who use software to make money (companies, managers etc...) should buy the software. Those who just "play" with software and install and deinstall applications 5 times a day can get a warez copy. But if I find a great piece of soft I want to keep (forever), I buy it.
(I don't buy software, I'm a poor student and the software fee doesn't repay itself).
And another thing... I would never trade software here - in public, in a tech forum with guest access...
If you can afford an XDA and the phone contracts that go with it, you can afford the software - most programs are only 10-15 USD. A few like AoE are more, and I can tell you worth the extra money.
Regards
Tim
Basically, i find it rather amusing the comments given. Anyway, my intention is not to spread the so called 'piracy'. The intention was to share files with your so called neighhours. If you think my sharing for example DVD - THe spider man to let the neighhour watch or use, then the whole world must be pracitising that, even your neighhouhood video store is spread 'piracy'. I mean people can always rent it and duplicate at their home right?......
Furthmore, forum is more less like a obtaining information, sharing etc. That's why I use the words like sharing. Wanna to charge those sharing information. If you think this kind actions is bad, I think this forum shall stop hacking the XDA stuff..
I got my new 02 XDA 64MB at US$500 only.... Spend so much $$$ on electronic stuff for what?........ Earniing money is not an easy task. and for you info only a few program is US$10/= Most are more that U$20/=. IF you get 10 how much will it be, and the money is only for 1 version. don;t forget the accessories thats comes with it. If you think u have extra $$$ to spend on this software. Share with it someone who is not as rich as u.
there is loads of free stuff out there if you want it a forum like this is brillant for info but there is a wide range of others out there
My two cents in what seems to become a long thread.
First to answer mac's orignal question. I can't help you (currently  )
In response to XDA developer Peter Poelman's response I want to submit that in order to keep this forum alive we certainly don't need the professional traders.
As for software licensing. I have been/am on both sides. User and author. It's annoying if people just copy whatever they like, especially if they make a lot of money with it.
My justification so far has been. I use 'evaluation copies' for 2 or 3 weeks or so and if it is still in use I buy the software. Is it legal? Probably not? Is this wrong? Probably yes, but I can sleep at night.
We all invent 'our rules' for the world. If you want to be safe, stick with the rules. If not just be prepared to have your [email protected]# kicked every now and then.
Although I sympathise with the argument of being a student, etc etc, that doesn't justify it (nor do my own 'rules' do that). What would you charge someone with 5 children and being a single parent?
And most of the times there are alternatives. For instance in the windows space there is a lot of free software around and some of them are real jewels. If you are curious: www.nonags.com.
Industry responds with free software containing banners and adds, we all hate them, install cracks/patches to get rid of them. Wake up guys. They give it away for free and still we whine. (yes, I hate adds and banners to and I kill them whenever possible). I think we shouldn't whine about initiatives like Palladium if we copying everything we can get our hands on.
Overall my advise is: don't use THIS forum for conducting that behaviour and for the rest live and let live. In my opinion its a forum for undertanding the XDA and its technology. I don't even have one yet ( ) but I have learned a lot already. One could argue about some of the things tht could be done with the XDA (un-simlocking of accidently locked phones) but it's mainly discussing the device, software and accessoiries.
Being nosy is not a crime.
Having knowledge is not a crime.
But using knowledge could be a crime.
And even the first 2 can be a crime depending on where you live.
Pfffffffffft, I must be PMS'ing. Sorry people
Robert
I think games should be paid for....
but as far as tools etc goes I think it would be fair to follow the GPL...
You pay for what you make money with.
I'm a frequent visitor to alt.binaries....pocketpc and I've probaly downloaded 700mb or so in pocketpc warez since I bought my XDA...
I have an easynews account which archives newsgroup posts from the last 30 days.
That software I downloaded because I thought it looked interesting; not because it was there. Out of those god knows how many programs I have 12 programs that I keep on my xda at all times... these I have registered:
Battery Pack 2003 <<< really good
Resco Explorer 2003
Lextionary <<< prolly the best dictionary tool
Snails
Marble Worlds
Diamond Mine <<< addictive as hell
Speedball 2 << we love the Amiga !!
Pocket C64 <speaks for itself>
Dockware
Small menu <<< damn good btw
Rhinostats
Truefax
The others I played with for a while and then dumped because they were errr CRAP ? or there were other better alternatives (atleast in the power monitoring area)
Diamond mine I downloaded months ago... and only registered yesterday.
I dont believe in buying stuff I dont need.. and downloading them gives me more time to decide whither I'm going to keep it... or fire it onto a DVDRW and forget about it after a month.
I also have a wares copy of Autocad Studio Max 5 on my computer... $5k to buy in the shops...
most people dont learn this program at Uni (atleast the good ones anyways). Most of them pick up a copy when they are in their early teens and continue to learn with it till they master the techniques. After doing so they go to Uni and get the bit of paper... later on they get a job with a company which has bought a license to the application.
Autocad arent missing out on my license... I'd have never considering paying the $5,000 in the first place.
Some people say that 3D Animation is a craft. I've known people who have been 'learning' it for the past 7 years. Where would Autocad get its budding new business licenses if the 3D warez market dried up and only the large software houses could afford them?
Games are different, you cant make money from them.
I bought StarScape the other day for the PC.
http://www.moonpod.com/English/about_ss.php
download the demo and give it a go
I normaly run games in 1600x1200 or above... but the fact this runs in 640x480 makes no difference.
You might also want to check this site out for some more quality game play... and best of all they are free 8)
http://www.tierraentertainment.com/ (reworked kings Quest I&II)
http://www.back2roots.org/ (shtuff from eons ago)
games from the era of when gaming had gameplay, hand drawn graphics and not just a billion polygons fired at it.
Strange comment from a 3D artist.
software
hi mac
try bear share there is loads of software on there i dont think we should trade games on here i used to use another site for my nokia communicator and it started to trade software and now it gives very little free and has turned into a business venture about selling software and not the product which it was originally meant to help promote amongst fellow users
Well, we'll be relasing a game soon aswell and i would like to think that if people download the demo and they are happy with it, that they would then go on to buy the full version. Its not like the average pocket pc game costs a fortune.
The way I look at it is if people dont buy software, people will stop writing it, I have purchased many games/apps, and am glad i supported the writers of such software. As a result newer and better versions are released, i prime example is Battery Bar along with Journal Bar, fantastic bit of software.

Anyone Interested in a "NIKI100 20Key" or for spare parts or for Developing?

Anyone Interested in a "NIKI100 20Key" or for spare parts or for Developing?
I have a HTC Touch Dual 20 Key (NIKI100) that would be great for a ROM chef or developers to toy with or as spare parts.
I have the original box and accessories as well as a desktop cradle that I will package everything in. It is in working and flashable condition other than the one noted problem below. Bluetooth, camera, audio, buttons all work, just the audio bug which I believe is hardware based.
The device works great other than a call problem that is hardware related.
Detail on Problem: When in a call randomly the listener on the other end will hear a buzzing or humming sound and not the caller, but everything sounds normal on the device. To fix it while in a call you have to open and close the screen a couple of times. I beleive its a loose part in the screen.
Physical Condition: There is some minor wear and tear to the device and a small chip/indentation on the front of the bezel from handling over the last year but the screen is in a near mint condition because it has always had a screen protector. Other than the noted call problem, the device works great and I have flashed many ROMs to this device and it currently has a Lily Rom on it. It is not in a bricked condition and is ready for someone to play around with it or use it for spare parts like a screen or keyboard change.
How Much?
I will let the device go for $75 to the first person to post their interest in the device. This is not a bid, so the first interested person gets it, I just want to get it off my hands. I will include free shipping within the United States with all the accessories, box and liturature. For xda's outside the United States shipping will be additional and I will have to figure that out seperately. I will send a Paypal invoice to the specified email address and payment can be made that way for security reasons.

What about me?
I have unfortunately moved on from windows mobile until WM7. I am currently on the Android platform for now, but you can find me in the Dream forum on xda if you want to find me.
Feel free to ask any questions if you are unsure.
Thanks,

I think a few of us should club together and buy it for dzo (if he is willing) so we can get a proper linux kernel for nike (like the kaiser forum did).
Whos with me?

Doesn't look like a bad idea to me, though dzo would be the first to ask wether he needs it... (he's gotta have already too many qualcomm based htc phones

Gtablet Support/Store - bad bad bad!

It would seem reasonable that you could buy a replacement power supply for a current product from the manufacturer wouldn't it? Start on Viewsonic's web site. Try using the store - ha-ha. Now call the number. Get referred to another number. Call that number - get referred to another number. rinse and repeat. Go to their website to the gtablet page. Read call this number 866-501-6405 for anything you need. Get referred to another number call that number - get referred to another number - rinse and repeat. Get frustrated - call their corporate headquarters in Wlanut, CA. Ask for the name of the president so you can send a letter. Get told they can't give it to you for security reasons - but it is on the web. Get hung up on. Sadly, I really like my g-tablet but this is an awful company to deal with. I wonder what will happen if I need a replacement battery - will I be told to go to Radio Shack to find something that fits (like I was told to do for the power supply)? I'm really enjoying the g-tab but I can tell you that when it comes time to replace it, it won't be with another Viewsonic product. Anyone can sell you something - it is how they support it that separates the good companies from the bad. I feel better posting this and maybe someone has had a better experience but looking at the struggles here to get power supplies and docking stations, I'm going to guess that no one has much good to say about dealing with Viewsonic. Surprise me!
Unfortunately I will have to agree. Since day one the support has been far less than you would expect. There have even been times when they have referred to XDA to help out. Basically US Merchants buys from China, Viewsonic buys from US Merchants, and no one really know who's supposed to support it. I will have to say that's the beauty of open source and some of the people that are here. More times than not you can get support right here if you don't mind doing a little digging. I've only been playing with android's for about 8 months now and know more than I ever needed or wanted to all because of XDA.
But honestly, isn't that the way we've become accustomed to support? No one ever calls Microsoft anymore, we use Google.
It's truly a shame that you can't get a straight forward answer when trying to replace something so simple. I apologies on behalf of the business owners that still give a s**t.

That is because half the tech notes for MS are "Can not be found" when it comes to errors and such
Google search allows you to reach out to users who no these things first hand. That is why I always make a point if I can not find an answer to a question, even on line and I finally figure it out myself to post it somewhere so someone else can be helped by it.
I did that here on XDA and getting ADB to work on my win 7 64bit system. All the help was on 32b this and that. I finally figured it our myself and wrote a tutorial for others that "will" need it.
Viewsonic is a very big company that is dabbling in android based tablets that at least with thegtab did not design. I would also argue that the cost/price is such they don't really know where this is going.
same with all the other tab makers save on, the apple. Think about apple's model with iTunes, what I call a consumption model. They can actually give away the ipad at cost because they can get it from the model.
now in order for company's like viewsonic to compete they need to provide all accessories and have a hook. We know from the official viewsonic Rep that they are thinking about some kind of development site, makes no money and meanwhile Steve has to bring in accessories because viewsonic dropped the ball. So yes, basically unsupported. A lot cheaper for the hardware though.
I don't see another development site as a good thing. Viewsonic needs to spend its energies on marketing the apple way or just stick with monitors. Maybe they look at the gtab as a monitor. But we know that can't be because the screen is not in usual viewsonic quality. I'm sure they saw the ztab as quick entry and OEM'd, it.
I've got to agree..
I've been trying to find a source for the mini-vga cable for the ViewPad 10. Support told me to go to Best Buy. When I pressed them on exactly what to purchase they admitted they did not know and that Besy Buy probably did not carry them. Support handed me off to the parts dept.
Parts pointed me to a cable designed for the Viewpad 100, which was a product released in 2001. When I asked if he was sure if they cable would work, he said "probably". When I noted the website said the product was 'out of stock' he said "order it anyway, that will tell us we need more". Since the conversation did not exactly instill my confidence in the parts dept I did not order the $20 cable.
I'm still looking for a mini-vga cable for the ViewPad 10 if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Guys, please be aware of scam sites

For instance, check out the following site which boasts the TFP for $320.
http://www.donagsystemonline.com/AS...utm_source=google-shopping&utm_medium=organic
Just look around in the site. You can see several very obvious signs of this being a scam, aside from the ridiculously low prices.
Just want you guys to be aware. That is all.
A quick search showed up at least half a dozen other sites with ridiculously low prices. They all track back to Britain.
The scam goes like this. You order the item and use paypal or credit card or whatever. You immediately receive an email from them telling you that to avoid complications or whatever they have refunded your money and that in order to send you the item immediately they need you to wire them the money via western union or some other company where it is impossible for you to recover your money.
Thanks for the warning.
good lookin out...
Ta for the heads up!!
Wonder why a site that claimed be uk based is priced in dollars!!
Reckon you are quite right about the method used lol
Trouble is that there is one born every day, and somebody is most probably stupid enough to click on buy.
the server is based in the US
Hmmm trying to remember how to report a fraudulent site to google now lol
Thought I'd run a whois on the site:
http://www.whois.net/whois/donagsystemonline.com
Bump.
I've seen several reports of people falling for this scam.
If it looks to good to be true... it usually is. No offense but I don't really understand how people can think such a thing is legit.

TV Box Hack needed

Dear hacking artists,
I really need help. There is this lame TV Box called Omnibox. Years ago, when RadioShack was going through bankruptcies, the manufacturer gave up support and left me with this Omnibox useless. Since it is preloaded with some dumb OS I don't recognize, I can't do anything with this hardware.
You can look at the device on Amazon website and searching for "Omnibox" and it's the second result.
Amazon Product ID is B007NJ6S9S.
I am interested in loading Android on this and I am willing to offer a bounty on it if this forum can allow it.
I will do my best to work with you and provide you with necessary information. If you prove yourself to be capable, I will physically send it to you to tinker.
Please let me know in which forum I can post this request. If you can teach me how to upload photos on this forum, I'd appreciate it too.
Thank you for your time.
