t mobile rom upgrade - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

The good news is it gets rid of that unbearable radio turn off delay and the + thingy in sms.

Radio version 1.17 vs 1.18 etc

Hey guys,
I'm using WM2005 1.50g and had some issues with Radio 1.18 initially as other ppl on the board have had. I went back to 1.17 and now have different issues.
Can anyone confirm they are experiencing the same things as me? And are there any better Radio ROMs than 1.17 and 1.18? (even older version?)
1.18 PROBLEMS:
- Flight mode takes AGES to enable
- Flight mode takes even longer to disable...
- Flight mode randomly turns off (some ppl say when a reminder occurs)
- rare GPRS connection fails with "cannot connect to [gprsapn.com]" (every few days)
1.17 PROBLEMS:
- GPRS connection fails with "cannot connect to [gprsapn.com]" very often. Using ActiveSync schedule 30 mins interval this happens every few hours. Requires either waiting over an hour for timeout or to turn on flight mode then turn off again, or of course soft-reset.
- tap on [G] in top bar, does not list GPRS connection to connect to. Just says "To connect to either the Internet or work, set up a new connection in Settings".
Any one with further info?
Cheers to all the good work ppl are putting into WM2005, I'm thinking 2003SE is dying a slow death now. 2.20-[fully]translated may never eventuate eh. These problems listed above I never had on 2003SE so I know the hardware is not faulty and the settings are fine.
I am currently using 1.17, here are my observations:
> SMS sent to me seem to be delayed (not sure if this is a provider/network issue or caused by the radio rom; Philippine Smart users with WM5.0 and using 1.17 radio rom, pls confirm...)
> Sometimes when I power up my XDA, several SMS messages (lagged?) will suddenly come in all at once
> There are also times when you can't send out an SMS message. I am sure my signal strength was full. It just doesn't leave the outbox. So I move the msg in the outbox to the drafts folder then resend it again. Then after some time, it will send but will send it in multiple copies (depending how many times you have retried). This is annoying specially if it's an urgent message. Very frustrating!!!
**I hope someone else out there can confirm my observations. Thanks!

Radio v.1.17
hey this should be a Radio ROM v.1.17
Here's the download link:
http://www.4shared.com/file/11851953/4c877d57/C_ShekharAKU35cR40P24_public.html
sorry for bad english.....
1.08 is best for WM6 I think.
No SMS delay, no SMS sending failures, no GPRS disconnection/can't connect, no ringing delay, no all in one sms get (turn on phone and 10123 smses comes, lol!)

how to change radio:
Put Radio_.nbf and Upgrade.exe in one folder and flash as normal. After flashing, just reset, don't hard reset, and get happy!
Remember that Radio stack ROM update is dangerous, fail update will make your radio unusable probably for ever. Be careful.
edit - Update: After a lot of testing - Don't install other radio that 1.17 on my roms if you are not suicidal
Old post, more info?!
hi. Sorry to bother you at this late stage, but could you explain what you mean by that statement regarding the combination of your ROMs and Radio versions that are not 1.17..?
Do you mean that your ROMs rely on version 1.17 to function correctly?
In which case, is it fair to say that whenever a new ROM is released / cooked, the chef should also mention which Radio ROM they are using also?!
Thanks for your patience

Most stable Rom

Hi I have been using a V1605 now since HT626 Release and now on the V1605 HT642 (4 exchanges) and I am looking to use a ROM/Radio which is most stable. I have tried a few but getting a bit bored or reloading my software each time.
My Problems so far have been
1)Incoming calls dont ring or display on the phone & sometime they just get engaged tone instead of voice mail (I am on T Mob if that helps)
2)Bluetooth Headset keeps disconnecting and need a phone reboot (Jabra BT500)
3)MS Voice Command over bluetooth keeps switch between phone and headset when i am giving a command.
Thanks in advance
Solar, where are you located? I assume either US or UK based on TMo being your carrier...
I am in the UK.
Oh ok. Sorry mate, I'm in the US, so I'm not sure I could properly answer you. I have the original HTC ROM on my Tytn, and I love it. No noticeable issues for me... yet. I haven't had it that long, so things could come up.
I'm using ROM version 1.18.255.3, 7/22/06, radio 1.03.03.10 - which is the ROM that came with my unlocked HTC phone. On the Cingular network in the U.S.
I have occasional bluetooth problems where bluetooth shows that it's on, but I have to cycle bluetooth off and on again to make it work. Frequent lockup problems requiring a soft-reset every 2 to 3 days.
Given that, I would say that this is probably not the ROM you want if you use the same software environment I'm using:
Pocket Informant 7
SPB Pocket Plus
SPB Diary
SPB Weather
On the positive side, I've had zero problems with the phone side of the device -- I don't miss calls, haven't dropped calls, and can rely on it, even on 2 hour conference calls. I get the same or better reception as I did with my Nokia 8125 and HTC Wizard. I just have to power cycle it every 2 to 3 days to keep it working well.
Thanks for the info i have been using the latest HTC with radio 1.20 and seems to be ok as long as i dont leave the data coonection on (3G,GPRS)

I have the same combination as you. What happens if you leave the data on? I don't seem to be having an issues
3G/UMTS
We have been getting the same issues - for example:
1. Needing to redial on a number of occassions to make an outgoing call;
2. Incoming calls disconnecting when attempting to answer;
3. Calls dropped out...and others
All this seems to be under control now that I have turned off UMTS.
Hope that helps.

Jason, I seem to have the same issues with my M3100 - HERM100 when using my car´s BT handsfree (BMW X5). My radio ROM is V23. I was trying to switch UMTS off but all I found was an auto switching of networks 900 MHz - 2100 MHz, which I switched to 900-... instead of AUTO.
WHERE CAN I SWITCH UMTS COMPLETELY OFF ?

Yeah a Radio extract would be cool..maybe it will improve GPS and reception in the US on AT&T.

Thanks guys - just flashed the radio and will see how the gps is.
Everyone talks AT&T here. Does anyone use T-Mobile? Will this radio work on T-Mobile network?
any feedback on the radio?
i am more interested in the radio than the OS...
Ok. Flashed. Does not make much difference to me. I have not noticed if it is any better or worse yet. And well, I should say no 3G for me, unless there is the way to make the TP work with 1700 Mhz.
Over here, reception hasn't improved. I hope it's drains less from my battery.

downloading radio only now. I use AT&T here in the U.S.
installed it last night. the reception seems to be the same. same with the battery usage. the only thing i couldn't make it work was the gps. i tried different options and I think is a radio issue. worked well with the .05 radio of the diamond and the .16 from cingular.
hope this helps.
This Radio didn't agree with me.
Had trouble locking on to satellites, for some reason the HSDPA was constantly on and it gave my phone an annoying bug where the busy animation constantly showed when I started IGO.
Haven't noticed any changes to the signal strength.
I am on Three and in the UK by the way.

Same here. No gps
My GPS works fine after installing this radio. I think installing the radio resets the GPS like new again. I ran GPS Test with cold start and it locked onto 10 satellites within a couple minutes. I pulled Googles maps up and it got a lock in 15seconds with 10-12 sattelites.
Download GPS test
download quickGPS data again
start GPS Test with cold start and let it lock on to sattelites for about 2-5minutes.
close GPS test
start up your GPS program i.e. google maps and you should get a lock within 15seconds.
So far I have not noticed any difference between my stock radio and this one. Haven't really had a chance to test out GPS lag yet though to see if its better.
I guess I'll hang on to this radio until a better one comes out.

[Q] Unable to receive calls! <-- its a phone after all innit?

First of all i must apologize for not posting on development but im not allowed since this is a new account on xda...I live in London but im in mallorca spain for the summer looking for a job so having a phone is very important. As soon as i got my sgs2 i rooted it .. i was having some issues (random reboots) which led me to think it was either something wrong with the unstable kernel i was using or more likely a bye bye RAM. I decided to reset the phone and installed the LIGHTENING ROM... I Just love it!!! but... now im having trouble with it ... (BIG TIME) I had not realized something was wrong because everything seemed fine until i asked my gf to call me today... she couldnt... then i tried several times myself without success. I rebooted and to my surprise i started receiving a lot of work calls!!! (Which is great) but then i tried calling myself and it didnt work again. Im going back to stock firmware for now since the device is a phone after all. Dont know just yet if this will fix it but ill keep you guys posted... anyone having similar issues??
It might be a small bug in your firmware, try reflashing Stock and then see.. If still the same problem, try stock firmware from another source and reflash.. if still the same problem.. then its a issue.. Post your findings.. please
I have no issue like that.. just trying to help

check if your internet connection is set to wcdma/gsm auto mode...i am having similar problem when it is set to wcdma/gsm auto..it keeps loosing connection and radio switches off...making my phone unreachable most of the time.setting it to gsm only is the only way to cure this at the moment for me.

hi iznee;
I am from malaysia too.
currently I am using stock KE2 ROM. just rooted the phone for some xtra things that I want to do with it.
my phone is set to wcdma/gsm auto connection and never have outgoing/incoming call problem. Data also works as expected and by the way I am subcribed to Celcom unlimited Data plan.
by switching to GSM only, you are limiting the speed ability of the data to GPRS/EDGE only. please noted that you cannot have voice and data simultaneously while in GSM only mode. your Data session will be suspended if you make an outgoing call or if you receive an incoming call.
however, if you set it to WCDMA only, you can have both Data and voice simulataneously and that explain for 3G video call. but, not all areas are covered by 3G thus, if you entering an area without 3G, your phone is useless because there will be no signal.
if you set it to WCDMA/GSM auto, the phone will switch to GSM when there are no 3G signal available and that will ensure smooth phoneoperation in making/receiving call.
After a week of usage, I can confirm to you that I never have outgoing/incoMing call.problem and no data.problem.

morisa

Well so far my findings are null. i flashed kd2 stock with odin with the re-partition parameter on. Nothing happened. Was thinking re-partition would actually get rid of all the apps in case something there was giving problems... the phone was working fine when i was in england with kd1 stock... (How do i get rid of everything and start from scratch?? and what does the efs option do?? im tempted to use it xD) ... One other thing is i read somewhere that kd2 was giving trouble on orange uk (im ukthree but have tried with vodafone spain simcard) any ideas???
Efs is your IMEI code etc.
Backup as per post dev section .

iznee,
I have done a test regarding call in/out and also data connection. below are the test;
I am driving from KL to JB and crossing 5 states (KL, Selangor, N.Sembilan, Melaka and Johor). Along the 400km routes, I have taken the NorthSouth Highway, federal trunk road and also state road. My phone will change from H/3G to E/G when the signal is not available and I've no call drop whatsoever. I made calls while 3G/H signal is strong and also received calls. I did use the google maps.so that the data connection will be.continuous. In 3G/H mode, I can make/receive calls while the maps constantly refreshing based on my driving location.
when I enter the are without 3G, the phone automatically switched to GSM mode. albeit a bit slow.in data.connection, the maps still refresh without fail. when I make an outgoing call, the maps will stop refreshing as this is the behavior of GSM that voice call will take.charge and data will be suspended until I hangup the call then the data automatically resume its connection and the map refresh automatically showing my driving location. Then I use my other phone and call my SGS2 and as expected, the voice call going in and data suspended temporarily.
after hangup, data resume again and the map refresh automatically.
and when 3G signal is available, the phone automatically switch to 3G/H mode again and vice versa along the route.
all in all, I can say that my SGS2 works wonderfully and meets my expectation that phone function is priority. sattelite locks will take no.more than 10s and sometimes just under 2s. Superb performance by the phone.
Camera wise, no complain as I am.not a proffesional photographer. and I am more than happy for the camera performance.
Battery wise, no complain as I have unlimited data so i have all.my Facebook, twitter, push mail, livescore, news, weather etc ON 24hours. anyway, I have vehicle charger with me so the phone will be charged as long as I am driving.
this is from the about of the phone;

[Q] Cannot receive / make Calls

I running SynergyROM Nightlys 2.3.4 with the MR2.5 radio. I connect to 4G and have 5 out of the 6 bars for signal within seconds of turning the phone on. I can surf the internet, facebook, netflix with no problem at all. Touch phone dialer from the home screen or the phone in the app menu and either input the phone number or select someone from my contact list and press call, then all it does is resets to the default phone dialer screen asking me to enter name or number again? And when ppl try and call me it rings and and then gets voicemail. Whats strange is I can text message...need help. Gonna upgrade to MR2.75 to see if that helps
This sounds like a problem with the dialer itself and not the radio. I would suggest trying to re-flash the ROM to see if it fixes it. Also check the notes on the nightly or the forums for it to see if people have had similar experiences. When ROMs get updated so frequently its not uncommon for something to get borked for a day.

Just to add to this, when you reflash make sure you are wiping and clearing the dalvik cache.
i think its sense 3.0 thats doing this. Any rom that has this my phone dialer will not work. did you get this problem fixed?
