Given that you're on TMobile, you could install the 1.60 TMobile ROM. This will replace the O2 branding by TMo branding however. (No worries about the NL appendix in the URL: it's in English...)

Thanks a million!
Im just thinking: Should i replace O2 branding wiht T-Mobile braning *evil grin* maybe ill do.
Any chance to get a "generic" version without branding anywhere ?
Oh, and as i promised. Thnaks for your help. I donated ...

Try the new Qtek 2020 rom, it's plain without any extra crap to it...

Maybe I can help u how to do it. Maybe the original Dopod 696 rom can not flash into ur O2 directly, I can help u modify this rom to fit ur O2 XDA, pls contact me if u want. my MSN: [email protected]
many thanks, I have added you to my MSN contact list, would you please chat with me...
just now, I flash the dopod 696 rom directly into my XDA II, but occur errors at the 99%....
my god.
I need help.
and there is little strange...please look at my DeviceData.txt file.
there are no devicetype, operator and language strings in the DeviceData.txt file
My device is UK O2 XDA II
Hi Oneall,
Since u hv already flash the Dopod ROM into ur XDAII-- even if some error occured. How about ur O2? Could it start-up normally?
And, could u pls tell me how u flash it? By using the flash-tool or the Bootloader?
when I failed to flash dopod 696 to my UK O2 XDA II. I can not start my xda ii...SO I go back, get the t-mobile 1.6 Rom and flash it to my crashed XDA II...and OK, it works.....but all the settings are the T-Mobile.....(GPRS, wallpaper, etc)
I use the HimaUpgradeUt.exe, HimaClearJumpCode.exe and HimaGetDeviceData.exe to flash my rom....It's very easy to flash a rom...
you can get the update files below:
you put them into one folder and copy your nk.nbf into the same folder.
I know why it always stop at 99%...
the dopod rom .nbf file is not the correct one... the one I got is 31,475kb
but the right one should be 32,257kb
so, in other words, I still need a new dopod 696 rom
Hi, Oneall
I am in USA, but here the MDA2 is so expensive, i want to buy xda2 through ebay from a uk guy. what's your price for that?
BTW, have you got the correct Dopoda696 rom.
would you like to share with me?
thanks
"you want to buy xda2 through ebay from a uk guy.what's your price for that"
what does it mean? Does you mean you buy the xda ii from ebay.co.uk and post it to me, then I post the xda ii directly to you???
or you buy the xda ii with the contract, then i pay the monthly fee and you get the handset....????
"what's your price for that"
I am puzzled, because i dont sell the xda ii why i have MY price???
If you want me to help you buy the xda ii in UK, no problem. I can help you...(bcz, I think you are a chinese guy, otherwise, you will not care the dopod 696 rom )
I am trying to get the correct Dopoda696 rom, but still not yet.
If I get the dopod 696 rom, sharing the rom is not a piece of work.
because, I am not the profiteer. I will never do the thing that benefiting from the rom.
sorry for confusing you
i am going to buy xda2 from a UK guy through ebay.
i guess you have already had a xda2. i would like to know how much you paid for yours
thanks
140pounds for handsets.
and I should choose a o2 tariff that
first 4 months I will pay 45pounds per month, then after 4 month I can change me tarrif to the cheapest one which should cost me 15pounds per month.
modifying language settings of XDA II
I've been reading your interesting flashing thread.
I wonder how do they manufacture different language ROMs like German, Chinese and also English for that matter Could it be that we are never going to see those tools specifically made for this job..
I'd really like to modify my XDA II to be different language eg. Finnish which is my native language. I suppose it would require dumping the ROM to harddisk and open it with hexeditor and then translate all possible findings to my or your language. Some job if ROM is 34MB in size..
Does one have to modify CRC's too when messing with the interiors of ROM?
I suppose it is enough if only main characteristics of OS's GUI (including Pocket Outlook) are translated. There's no need for seldomly used parts to be translated.
Help from forum users appreciated. Like getting me on the right track.
Thanks.

Upgrade MDAII to XDAII

I bought some days ago the MDAII for 550€ without SIMLook.
For me the MDA Software is very boring and am missing the features of the XDAII Software.
So my question is...
is it possible to (Software-)Upgrade a MDAII to a XDAII with the Tools wich I can find at this page?
Sorry, I'm a newbie...
and many thnx for the responses!
Quick answer 'Yes'
Slightly longer answer, take the Update from the O2 website, use ER2003 Edit to change the country ID to T-Mobile, then flash away.
I had Dutch T-Mobile...then O2... now custom O2 (removed all O2 custom stuff and got rid of MMS as I dont use it etc etc).
While it is technically possible... if you are a newbie and don't have much experience, I can just recommend: DON'T DO IT... these hacking programs can also lead to complete loss of a working device!

Hi,
I'm a Newbie too, but why should he change the country ID to T-Mobile, if he has a Sim UNlocked handy it should work anyway ... or is it not that way ???
Because if he fails with the procedure and ends up with an unworkable device he will have to go to his vendor who might ask some questions and maybe even reject doing anything about it... is it really worth is?
OK that's the reason, it makes sense ...
thank you

I also have the MDA II, with current 1.60.36 ROM. I liked the 1.60 better.
I'm not sure why you would think O2s ROM is so much more exciting I'm not sure. Besides a different today screen I doubt there is that much difference, except for stability. In fact I was very close to upgrading to O2 1.60.50 myself, but decided to wait for T-Mobile to come out with their next upgrade, which I would think should be soon, because it has been awhile since their last poorly put together upgrade.
As long as you are willing to take the risk of a voided warranty, go for it.
The place to get the upgrade, from t_mobile to O2 is right in this forum index. Look for User-MDKIA. This fellow that put this together I believe knows what he is doing and because of the way he has developed the upgrade I do not believe you need to be concerned about the Country ID error.
Good luck.http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=7278&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=25

Because in my case I had to, gave Country ID error when I tried to put the O2 ROM on my T-Mobile unit.
Dont know why people worry about doing it, as long as you follow instructions its dead simple... unless you are editing the ROM (ie removing bits) you cant really go wrong! Even if you do edit the ROM you still cant really go wrong if you read whats on this site!
Even if you **** up completely as long as you can get to the bootloader you can always flash it back to how it was...
its not rocket science...
I wantet to flash the O2 ROM to the MDAII because I have a O2 SIM Card. Some Options like the Homezone Statusviewer or the O2 Active profiles are very useful.
But... If it's so easy as described... It should be no problem to reconvert a MDAII with XDAII ROM back to MDAII ROM (for example if I want to sell it) or not?
thnx for all these useful informations.
;-)
Hey m8!
Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=8205
Itsme made a tutorial for upgrading roms.
I don't know your problem... it's really easy as hell.
Just use Er2003edit, it takes care for everything!!!
Here you can edit the header information with a drop down menu.
If you currently have a MDA2 simply change the header info in the three ROM-files from O2 to TMOBILE, then run the upgrade.
You cannot do something wrong, the upgrade tool will not start at all if not everything is right, and even then still the bootloader is available.
I haven't heared so far of a trashed XDA2 device ;-)
By the way... think of making your own Ext-rom ;-)

I really was thinking about making this, but I have too less information actually, may be you can help me find some mor infos about that ... would be very interesting ...
ciao
Investigate the threads refering to Er2003edit, I think they explain pretty good what it is all about.
In the end it is simple drag 'n drop with programs you like to have after hardreset (or don't have). When finished update the config.txt file which handles the install process, note not to use programmes which execute a softreset after install.
Look at this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=7196&highlight=
here is a lot optimized stuff for the ext-rom.

Agree. I think setting the timer on my VCR is more complex!
Even if it all goes completely wrong you should still have access to the bootloader... so you can just flash it again...
settings o2 rom (germany)
Hi,
I'm using a MDA II (T-Mobile) and a O2 card.
I'm interessted in umgrading to a O2 rom but I'm afraid of loosing warranty. I'm not afraid that something should be wrong by flashing the o2-rom to my xda II but I have 2 years warranty left and in that time some other things may happend to my system that I must use the warranty.
So I need the O2 settings of the O2 rom to use MMS, WAP, GPRS,... Which file of the O2 rom have stored these settings?
There are a lot of files in that rom, what are these all for?
I coppied allready the homezone tool which works fine on my XDA II (don't start automatically - coppied to autostart but don't start , only manual start works - somone a sollutions for that?).
Does anyone know for what all the programs in my startfolder are for? There are a lot of entried which will fast system... But I don't want to find it out by trieing....
Does anyone knows a good simulation for the XDA II to test software. I dont' want to put all on my life system and delete again. I thing the regestry will grows bigger and bigger....

Ok I Compiled A T-Mobile ROM From A Dump. Unfortunatley I Don't Know From Which Country It Comes, So You'll Have To Try It To Find Out.
It's Just The OS That Will Be Updated.

Hi Mousey_,
Have you been able to find out the exact build configuration of this dumped rom?
Thanks
T-Mobile 1.21.110.3 OS only no radio etc.
It's only on the CD that comes with the vario II at the moment and so would need someone to extract it from the cd and upload it.
I wouldn't bother as it eats battery - and they haven't decided when they're going to update it yet.

Thanks
when i originally had a look at the CDs i thought it was, but i'm hating my new rom so went to look today and it is in fact not on the CDs after all. sorry, i'm in the same boat now too, sort of.

T-Mobile UK - Original Firmware

Hi guys,
I need to send my MDA Vario II in for repairs, and I'm currently running a WM6 upgrade. Obviously they won't be too pleased with this, so I'd like to return it to its original T-Mobile WM5 state.
I *know* there's bound to be a thread about it already, and I'm sorry, I haven't been able to find it!
If someone could point me in the direction of the original ROM, I'd be very, very grateful!
Many thanks,
Gav
EDIT: My apologies! I just found that T-Mobile UK have the WM6 firmware on their site now! How times have changed! That should be OK for returning it, shouldn't it? After all, I only have a problem with the screen, not the software...

I suggest you flash their version of WM6 before sending it back though. They might not be too happy about a cooked ROM especilly if it's going in for a warranty repair.

Hey m8 i hav sent like 5-6 hermes back all with custom roms, and they replaced it with no question after a couple of weeks of repairing
I know it's been said before but don't forget TM's WM6 ROM: http://member.htc.com/RuuDownload/T-mobile/TMobileWM6Step1-TMUK.aspx?country=UK
(via tm-phonedownloads.com) - I'm running it right now partly out of laziness (and because the cooked ROMs on here didn't quite have all the elements I wanted, so I flashed the TM ROM while I made my mind up about which ROM I'd go with... And I've not reflashed yet!)
