POcketop KEyboard - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I will like to get the pocketop ir keyboard driver for ppc2002 from anybody who has one. Please e-mail abbas at skannet dot com. Thank you.
PLEASE AVOID POCKETOP LIKE A PLAGUE. I bought mine where return is impossible and now I'm stuck with a useless piece of hardware. PLEASE LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE AND AVOID THESE EXTORTIONISTS.

???
Ekun, I dont seem to get it. You said to avoid the hardware yet you're looking for one? pls clarify..thanks.

i beleive he meanr to say he has the hardware and looking for s/w
and wants others to stay away from the h/w

Yes, you are right. I have the misfortune of having the hardware, but I cant use it because the driver that came on the accompanying cd did not work and applying for a driver on their website elicited no reply up till now.

Got you. My bad Hey, any luck yet in obtaining the driver???
Meanwhile, what is the best keyboard solution for our device?

I understand Targus has one. Its driver which is available as a free download works partly with pocketop. But the output letters are different. Pressing Z gives you L etc.

So that's about July then, judging by their past performance. It would be fine if they actually altered the release because of testing, but the last XDA I romset was all dated a good three months prior to it's release.
Scene: a dusty office somewhere in London...
"So you've spent three months testing the device, what are your findings?"
"There's a load of bugs, most of which make the device pretty unstable, but many can be easily fixed with a little development effort. Here is our 100 page report."
"I'm afraid our development department is busy writing a custom menu system for the XDAII that replaces the usable PPC2K3 interface with a load of rubbish and dead links, using up all the resources on the device. He's also got to go back to school for his GCSEs," tosses report in bin, "we'll just send it out anyway, the guys at XDA-developers will be able to get it working."
Upgrade to ROM 1.60WWE !! bluetooth com port is working!!
Hello Everybody
In fact there is an UPGRADE ready and existing, but not yet PUBLIC,
it is one nice 40 MB RUU file which will uprgade your unit to english language:
Microsoft Pocket PC version 4.20.0 (Build 13252)
ROM version: 1.60.00WWE
ROM date: 12/03/03
Radio version: 1.06.01
Protocol version: 1337.16
ExtROM version: 1.60.06
I have it, and I am willing to share! Please email me for the ftp details.
The most important change is that bluetooth has finally COM ports functionality! and EMTAC or SOCKET Bluetooth GPS works well with it!!
(tested myself). As it is quite new, I may want something in return, like serial number for some applications, but I am looking only for the few ones.
[email protected]
I have the german update.
But I have promised not to share it.
I have tried the Bluetooth-Serial-Com, but I didnt have success.
With TomTom I cant see the Com-Port (4/5)
Please tell me a little how to....

Give us screenshot to proof it.
I think if you really want to share, you don't need any return.
@axbl
tell us something about the 32proc. boundary...
The problem of the 32 processes is in the Microsoft Pocket PC System. The Update I have is Version 4.20.0 (Build 13252).
I dont think that the problem of the 32 prozesses is solved. This Problem is on each Pocket PC (IPaq, ...).
But only on the XDA/MDA 2 there are so much prozesses provided by the vendor (T-Mobile, O2) at system start.
The Update reduces the count of processes. This is the only thig T-Mobile can do without mícrosoft redisign Ppc2003. I count 19 Processes. then I started 20 applications (TomTom, Word, Excel,...), and there is a count of 26. Is this better thane before the update ???
yes, indeed, that sounds better. Can u tell us, which processes are gone in difference to the old firmware?
What did T-Mobile change?
Regards
Dejan
Sorry, I dont have a list of the processes before the update. Please list them here, and I will tell you.
I'm downloading the promised update from xda222's ftp server as I write this, but (judging by the name of the .exe file) it's for T-mobile in Netherlands. Not much use to me, but maybe of use to someone. Someone on T-mobile in the Netherlands maybe?
The file is called RUU16006WWE_T-mobile_NL.exe
I'm not going to run it - I depend on my PCs and my XDA2 too much to risk screwing it all up with a trojan or an unverified ROM file.
Shoot. It does not give any backup or restore uptions, just tosses it onto the machine ..... too late to go back now ..... will post the result in 10 minutes .... it's updating my Asian O2 XDA now .... (for use on Vodafone in the Netherlands)
... Phfew ... everything works ... still simfree, just customized t-Mobile now ...
I just bought a Chinese Version XDA2 and the rom is Version 4.20.0 (Build 13252), is that the latest version we can have?

Screenshots are of no use, you'll see no difference other than the T-Mobile customizations. If anything has changed, it will merely be minor HTC bugfixes under the hood. Main issues have to be resolved by MS, not by HTC. And since MS only brings out quarterly updates, don't expect any major overhauls until february 2004.

New O2 XDAII UK ROM on Friday

Just spoke to head Techie at O2 and the new UK ROM will be posted this Friday - I have an advanced copy and it rocks - with all the advanced fixes including the Bluetooth/Blackberry updates and PC 2003 stuff too.

Man, another bluff-man... never mind about him...
Have you tried O2Ger version? I saw some data about bluetooth fixes, did they put some efforts on HandsFree profiling? any idea? info?
BTW, i'm writing a lil prog for WM03 that will emulate hands-free music playing at your headset, don't u wanna be a beta tester for that? if you have bt head of course! Mine is HBH65 and now it can play only midi files and some low-sampled wavs and can not cojointly work with radio stack on (( so i need beta testers to do some research on headsets specifications and behavior, maybe your will work ok.
BR [CR+LF]
HTC, I will take part in that beta test if you need more testers.

yep count me in as well m8
Zetex
Sorry to sound smug - didn't mean to cause a stir. I can share but only on a 56kb connection so a bit difficult. The full pack will be 25mb. See the O2 reply I got a few mins ago.
The expected size of the download is 25 Mb.
There is also a .pdf instruction file that can be downloaded, this should be approx 120kb
"The ROM download combines both the ROM and Radio updates in one (unlike the previous updates for the original XDA where they were separate).
These should be fully self extracting/installing, but for further info, the .pdf should be checked before running the installation.
Kind regards
O2 Data Support Team"
I have JABRA 250 and XDA BT200 headset if I can help?
RobinHood,
How did you get the file.... O2 did'nt send it to you on an email did they????
that must have taken hours for a 25mb file on a 56k connection..

I am going to be getting my XDA II in a coupld of days (Australia) I'm guessing it will not have the latest firmware/software on it, is the UK, German and Australian versions different in any way? I am new to the PDA marked (First one, still have not played with one yet, but looking forward to it).
Please post some photos of your new ROM for us to see. Thank you.
XDAII AND Plantronics Bluetooth-Headset M3000
I have XDAII AND Plantronics Bluetooth-Headset M3000, if you need a beta tester....
So, which version is this upgrade? is it the 1.60 or is it newer?
RobinHood >
you cannot not to share it! :?
On the front page, there was a comment that the GER new ROM features:
- New O2 Active User Interface
Anyone know what this will look like ? What new features it has ?
TIA
can't wait till Friday
O2 UK Update will be posted on their website tomorrow. The Installation and feature instructions are attached.
the "new" gui in german has only minor but nice updates.
The only noticeable change is under My XDA, which changed.
Most obviouse you will have a field "my programs" where you can apply your own programs, I think very useful so you don't need the stylus anymore to start for example the navigator while driving.

QTEK 2020
Will this update work on the QTEK 2020. I sure do hope so!
Handsfree not icluded
Hey every1
I've downloade the pdf file read trough it and I've notice in the software changes under bluetooth, the handsfree profile is still missing.
I thought that this upgrade was going to resolve this problem??
Any comment from anyone.
Regards
Gigi
It says in the pdf file that handsfree profile and spp is supported and improved, where are you reading that it isnt?

Bluetooth keyboard + Microsoft Voice Command

Hey Everyone
Two things i need help with
Firstly - i want to get a bluetooth keyboard for my XDA2 but i can't find any. Does anyone know where to get these from. Also, i found a virtual keyboard which might interest some people which can be found at the link below
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/ibizpda/vike.html
Secondly - Microsoft Voice Command looks excellant but is currently only available in the US and Canada, does anyone know how i can get it now or when it will become available in the UK?
Thanks for any help you can give
Michael
maybe this one?
http://davesipaq.com/articles/000058/bluetooth_keyboard_ipaq
Nope, that keyboard won't be compatible:
It requires the Widcom or Socket bluetooth stacks. The i-Mate has that piece of sh*t Microsoft one.
I am really starting to get sick of the horrid bluetooth software on the i-Mate  A first class PDA phone and fifth class bluetooth software.
Anyway, confirmed here:
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=2903
well nokia just showd a bluetooth keyboard at some show
which will be out in the fall
maybe it would work ?
My understanding that it is possible to install Widcom stack on the i-mate, at least I remember doing that on my previously. So, it might work with keyboard in this case.
What's the difference between the I-Mate and the XDA2. I'm new to this technology and don't know the difference. They seem very similar.
HTC is the company from korea who makes the 2 devices supported on this site
'Wallaby' and 'Himalaya'
the former is xda1 and mda1 and qtek1010 and l.......
the later is xda2 and imate and qtek2020 .......
so to answer your question
they are the same hardware
Thanks for the info. So, you cant use something like the Logitech bluetooth keyboard? I know they have full size keyboards for the pc but will it work with the XDA2? By the way, does anyone know anything else about the virtual keyboard i refered to with the link? it looks ok but might not be better than bluetooth.

WM2003SE Upgrades - Is there Any Real News On this?

Is there any firm news on the likleyhood of a WM2003SE Upgrade for XDAII's (or any of the other versions of this hardware)? I have seen plenty of posts from people who seem to think it will come sometime but nothing official confirming this.
Given that HP have abandined any possibility of an upgrade for existing users I think it unlikley but I guess it only needs one ISP to offer the upgarde for Himalaya hardware and then we should be able to re-work it for the rest of us.
Yes, I'm looking for this too! I was hoping at least the new T-Mo USA iPaq phone edition would have SE! Is there a way to put that OS on my xdaII? -or is that a bad idea? -is it possible to get that ROM anywhere?

I just talked with the "live support" on this site. This is a copy of the session
Welcome Paul, please wait while we get you in contact with one of our club advisors...
You're now talking to Ali
Ali> Welcome to club i-mate support. My name is Ali, how can I help you today?
Ali> hi
Paul> hi, i wanted to ask about if/when the Windows Mobile 2003 SE update will be available for the imate PPC
Ali> Microsoft have just released Windows Mobile 2003 SE, however we need to add our elements to the operating system to make it into the complete device package.
Paul> is there any guess on time frame, it as been release by microsoft for a couple of months now.
Ali> there is no exact day for that
Ali> this usualy take 2 mounths
Paul> I have a number of friends who are considering purchasing the imate, but not sure if they should wait a bit longer if it wont be getting the landscape support found in SE. Can I at least tell them that it will be supplied sometime (this year)
Ali> yes sure , The Windows Mobile 2003 SE is totally different from the new upgrade currently available on our www.clubimate.com website that updates the current version of Windows Mobile 2003.
Ali> it will have the ability to view the pages in landscape
Paul> I understand that, just wanted to make sure it will be provided. I know a number of manufactureres have said they would not.
Paul> thank-you for your time
Ali> any more quieries ?
Paul> I have noticed that there is a number of questions about this topic on the support message boards on the club imate site. Is it ok if I post this conversation there to the public to answer the question and lay fears at ease?
Ali> ok thats will be fine , as i told you we need to add our elements to the operating system to make it into the complete device package.
Paul> ok, thank alot, you have been very helpful
Paul> bye
Ali> you are most welcome
Ali> bye
So it indeed seems that it is being worked on. And a big thanks to imate for providing that. All we neeed to do is be patient.

Dear,
Follow my link to original developers of WM2003SE here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=14373
HTH
Man, I am so insecure of which rom to use after all the zillion editions that surface each day, that I am afraid of using a buggy one. Better wait for a stable confirmed image, I guess.
Why not combine your own?
I use 2.06WWE (mysteryman) as found in the other posts, kept it as is, only exchanging the radio stack to 1.18 (picked up from 2.02)
I find it pretty stable, only has some trouble getting avantgo to work properly...
Problem of combining is that i don't have time to get that much into it, i'm afraid. My normal working hours are so hard that i hardly have time to sleep, so I'd like to get a working edition that is just plug'n'play as it's so nicely put by M$
Can you post your setupfile ?
If you dont have enough time, dont upgrade. Sounds like your to busy to worry about things like phones. Use 2 cups and some string instead. ROM upgrade your carrier pigeon, they are also more reliable.
I'd recommend you wait until a proper upgrade comes out from your phone provider.
The upgrades (especically SIN v3.5) do work well and don't take a whole load of time to install, but you can have problems.
I guess the questions should be, is there a Rom Kitchen
version of WM2003SE?
The Kitchens are the best way to cook up a custom rom with or without your desired ingredients.
Also, is there an XDA I version of WM2003SE?
I just upgraded and it work like dream! I also got the widcomm 1.4.x to work perfectly with my superduper version which was bundled with my norwegian BT dongle. No problem with that "license" message either. Anyone need that package, let me know and I can post it.
Also, syncing with Async using BT works superb too.
NB! My stringphone is already upgraded ;-)
widcomm issue
Hi!
How did ou get past the "license" message? Could you post it?

Er, people. When you say that Widcomm software is installed and working for you, can you also post what type of Bluetooth dongle/USB adapter you are using?
I think the license issue arises from the fact that Widcomm forced each BT dongle/USB adapter vendor to hardcode the device ID into a btsec.dll file issued with the Widcomm BT installation files.
If you have the software from someone, and you are using the same type of BT dongle/USB adapter as that guy, then you are in luck, coz the license is the same.
I had 2 dongles, one a generic CSR device and another Belkin one. Both comes with their version of Widcomm software, and the software wouldn't cross-interact with both devices because of the license issue.
What a DIM comm idea!
