Switching service providers - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

This question is geared towards people using t-mobile in the United States. I purchased an unlocked sx56 that had been flashed with t-mobile's PPC 2003. I am currently using a t-mobile sim card but want to switch to a different provider because I can not get service in my house. I was thinking about Verizon, but don't know if that will be a problem since I'm using a t-mobile operating system. Also I am using t-mobile's free version of aol instant messenger and getting free internet access using the wap.voicestream.com. Will I have any problems. Thanks in advance

since it's unlocked device, it can be used with any other provider as long as its band is supported by your device

thank you. I just wanted to double check that. My main question was if anyone else in America had tried accessing wap.voicestream.com for free internet service while using a different provider then t-mobile. Also If anyone thought i would have problems running t-mobile software with a different provider.

[Q] AT&T Titan Use in United Kingdom UK

I just purchased an AT&T branded Titan for use on T Mobile here in the USA. I didn't do my research properly and I just assumed I would get at least 3G. It seems not. However all is not lost if I can just unlock it and use it on my trips back to Scotland.
If I unlock the AT&T Titan will I have any issues just popping a UK SIM in there? Does it run better on some providers?
Thanks

You will need to check with the Carrier that you are going to use the Titan over there... and see which bands of HSDPA that they support. The UK Version of Titan seem to be supported 850/900/1900/2100 , but i don't think the AT&T version support 900 band tho. You will have to recheck.
Good Luck.
And yes, you need to get the SIM-Unlock code based on the IMEI of the phone and then you can insert any sim in and the phone will use it just fine as long as the carrier able to provide network for it.
Looks like you will only be able to use it on GPRS
UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ tri-band (2100/1900/850 MHz) and quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and LTE BC4/BC17
Thanks for the replies. It makes no difference to me what network I use .
I'm having a hard time understanding the differences.
If I look at this page it lists what my phone supports..
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_titan-4027.php
Looking at this it seems my specs match up with most major UK providers
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mobile_network_operators_of_Europe#United_Kingdom
Therefore shouldn't it work?
If it is limited to GPRS what are the limitations?
Thanks
Yep in theory it should, Just double checked and I posted specs for Titan2 oops
At&t Titan ie: Frequencies HSPA+/WCDMA 850/1900/2100 MHz and Quad-band GSM/GPRS/Edge 850/900/1900 MHz, Its missing 1800mhz for UK which basically means you cannot use T-mobile or Orange, But Vodafone or O2 or anything running 900mhz should be fine.
The 2G band list says "quad-band" but then only lists 3 bands. I'll bet that's a typo and that all 4 bands are supported.
I've used my unlocked AT&T Titan with local SIMs in numerous countries on 2100MHz 3G... works great.
I have at&t Titan from US in London with O2. Sometimes it woks fine on 3G sometimes doesn't work at all. I forced it to use only 2G and then it works fine.To force the phone Enter code ##3282# Then go to the Three blue dots on the right corner go to settings and in network type choose 2G or 3G depending on what you want.
Received my Titan 2 today from Across the pond, It's at&t branded but unlocked, It is working fine and shows 4G lol, I know it is just a 3G connection but no problems using it on O2, Had to manually input APN settings in cellular and that was it
Well that smile didn't last long, Can't send pic messages, Any ideas?
Hi AndyFZ1S have you tried the connection setup application from htc? Thats what i usedwhen i moved here and it worked fine. Still my 3g connection is poor or inexistant is most areas, i believe at&t phones are missing one band.

^@andres22, Thanks & yes have tried connection set-up but it says the carrier is not in the database etc, 3G works fine I just cannot send or receive picture messages, There is no option to manually put in the settings either so am kind of stuck really,
Uhmmm funny that my setup apolication has O2 settings and yours not. Sorry man. I cant think of anything else.

No problem, It may well be you have a different database on your at&t Titan compared to the at&t Titan2, Never mind, Hopefully there will be a way to sort it.
I'm having similar issue with Titan 2 using on T-Mobile US. MMS is the only issue. T-Mobile does carry Nokia 710 and HTC Radar. I wonder if there is a way to get settings from those phones.

The only way I can think of doing it is by flashing either a Stock Titan2 ROM (if it exists) or a custom one, That way Connection set-up would have most of the carriers in its database and not just at&t, But that won't be possible without HSPL or any ROMs, Maybe HTC could do something their end to update connection set-up etc?

Using another carrier at will with ROM for better reception?

I feel pretty stupid asking this question seeing as I put this ROM on myself and ought to know everything about it. It's Neutrino GT for the Atrix 4G. I have AT&T for my provider, and I have poor reception at my home. I recently had to switch to my backup Atrix with the ROM, and I noticed that it is using U.S. Cellular, which provides full EDGE reception. Obviously nothing amazing, but still better than what I was getting with AT&T. I also have the option of using T-Mobile.
My question is..Is this only possible because of the ROM, or is there another piece of android development that allows this to happen without actually roaming? I want to get another phone and be able to have this option, but I need to understand how it's possible to have the option to use other carriers at will.
Where did you get your backup Atrix? It has been SIM (network) unlocked if its an AT&T and you can use it on other networks. That's not the ROM.

I bought the Atrix off eBay long while back, and I did unlock it. Although my SGSIII GT-I9300 only seemed to be able to connect to the AT&T carrier (unless roaming), and not have this option. Additionally, I have an AT&T SIM in it. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to post a picture yet on my post being new, but under Settings > Mobile Networks > Network operators > Available Networks, it will list AT&T, AT&T, U.S. Cellular (or USA Unicel), and T-Mobile. On my SGSIII, it only listed the two AT&T networks. This is all with just the AT&T SIM in it. If you dial a wrong number when it's under U.S. Cellular, it will even go through the whole "Hello, this is U.S. Cellular..The number you have reached..." bit.

[Q] Using Z2 internationally with T-Mobile USA

Hello Everyone,
I had a question about using my Z2 while in Europe for vacation. My mobile provided is T-Mobile USA. I have the international version of the Z2; model number D6503.
Basically, I want to know if the phone will automatically connect to mobile networks in Europe by itself or if I will have to change options on the phone such as the APN in order for me to get mobile service? The country in question is Bulgaria, and per T-Mobile's site they do have service there.
In the USA, the phone set itself up, all I had to do was select download internet and MMS settings and I was good to go. Will I have to do something similar like that while in another country or will the default T-Mobile APN suffice?
Thank you for your time and assistance!
Shouldn't have to do anything but enable roaming. I spent July in Greece and Turkey and never had an issue (AT&T). Negotiate the rates with your carrier prior to departure. Roaming voice and data are not generally included in domestic plans.

Thank you! I was hoping you only needed to activate roaming. And thank you for the heads up as well. Luckily T-Mobile has pretty good international rates.

Lg v10 verizon to Ting?

Please excuse me! I'm no where as intelligent about phones as you folks.
I have an opportunity to buy a Verizon branded LG V10. It would be my intention to use this phone on Ting by using a Ting sim card.
I have read that all newer Verizon phones are unlocked via the sim card. Is this true in my situation? Should I expect the phone to work normally with voice, text and 3g/4g? Any other considerations?
Thanks! I appreciate any help you could offer!
Matt

Postpay Device Unlocking Policy
We do not lock most phones or tablets that are activated with our postpay service, either during or after the term of your service contract or Edge installment sales agreement.
We do not lock our 4G LTE devices, and no code is needed to program them for use with another carrier.
We do not lock our 3G devices, other than our non-iPhone 3G World Devices. The simple code to program such 3G devices for use with another carrier is either “000000” or “123456.” If the user guide for your device does not provide instructions to access the programming menu, you can contact us at *611 from your Verizon Wireless phone, or (800)922-0204, for assistance.
The SIM cards used in our non-iPhone 3G World Devices are locked. We willl unlock those SIM cards at your request.
PLEASE NOTE: Carriers typically use different frequencies and air interface technologies to provide wireless network access. Accordingly, a device that works on one carrier’s network may not be technologically compatible with another carrier’s network. “Unlocking” a device refers only to disabling software that would prevent a consumer from attempting to activate a device designed for one carrier’s network on another carrier’s network, even if that network is technologically compatible. In other words, “unlocking” a device will not necessarily make a device interoperable with other networks – a device designed for one network is not made technologically compatible with another network merely by “unlocking” it. Additionally, unlocking a device may enable some functionality of the device but not all (e.g., an unlocked device may support voice services but not data services when activated on a different network).

Why wouldn't you just buy an international LTE Tab S3? The VZW version is going to have their crap and modifications on it and most likely will be updated 6 months behind an international version if at all. Do you know if the VZW version supports T-Mobile's band 12? The international version doesn't and folks on T-Mobile get 8MB down in those markets that rely on band 12 heavily.
While all of the above is true, VZW devices should be SIM unlocked out of the box due to their block C agreement. The primary band for TMO is band 4 so you should be fine but yes, it is missing band 12 so if you live in a band 12 area, you're possibly giving up some coverage, particularly indoors. I'm in Chicago and since we don't have band 12... Doesn't matter to me.

Does anyone know if they come out of the box unlocked through Verizon? As I also want to use it on my T-Mobile unlimited plane to replace another tablet but buy the tablet through Verizon as it is not offered at T-Mobile.
