Hi, can someone help me locate software for my Wallaby? - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hi all. I'm a newcomer to this forum, as well as to the "Wallaby"-type phone, so any and all help or suggestions I receive will be very, very much appreciated.
I recently purchased a very used T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition phone from a private party. The seller's ex-husband was/is a Microsoft developer and had bought this phone when it was brand-new, intending to do software development on it, but had put it away in a drawer and had basically forgotten about it. When the seller transferred the phone to me, she was able to supply ALMOST everything that came with it. The one glaring exception was the Pocket PC Companion CD that originally came with the phone when it was new. (Apparently her ex-hubby took it with him).
I actually didn't intend to use the phone portion of this device at all, as I have a newer Windows SmartPhone for that purpose. I had bought it with the intention of downloading some software into it (Microsoft Money, etc.) that will not run on my SmartPhone. However, I soon discovered that in order to do any downloading at all, I must first establish a connection between my laptop PC and the phone, and herein lies the problem.
Because I did not receive the Pocket PC Companion CD, the software that establishes the connection between the laptop and the Pocket PC Phone does not seem to be installed. I DO have ActiveSync 3.8 installed on my laptop for the purpose of sync'ing up my laptop with my Windows SmartPhone. However, ActiveSync 3.8 does not seem to be able to establish a connection to the Pocket PC Phone. Connecting the USB cable from the USB cradle holding the Pocket PC Phone, to the USB port on my laptop, causes the following error message to display on the phone:
"SYNCHRONIZATION ERROR
To synchronize this device, you must install ActiveSync 4.0 or higher on your desktop computer"
I was under the impression that ActiveSync version 3.8 was the latest and most-current version -- unless that version is only for SmartPhones, and not for PocketPC Phones??
Can anyone supply the Pocket PC Companion CD (or the software that came with that CD) that was originally provided by T-Mobile?
And can anyone suggest a source for the version of ActiveSync that is needed for this Pocket PC Phone to be able to sync up with my laptop?
Also, if I do install that ActiveSync version, do I risk accidentally overwriting the version of ActiveSync that is already (correctly) loaded on my laptop for syncing the laptop to my Windows SmartPhone?
The following info may be useful:
Model No.: PW10B1
Platform: PocketPC
IMEI: 350314010270552
ROM Version: 3.04.00 ENG
ROM date: 06/12/02
Radio version: 6.24
Protocol version: 324e4
If you have any information and/or suggestions, please e-mail me at the following address:

Thanks!!!

Have you tried these suggestions?

I'm using active synch 3.8.0 ok.
On my PC I've got "Allow USB connection with this desktop computer" checked in File->connection settings...
Also got in the "Options" dialogue the "Synchronize mobile device clock upon connecting" checked.
After starting active synch it sits in the system tray and grey's itself.
On my XDA I'm running active synch too, and it works a treat.
On XDA run Active Synch, select Tools->Options...
Check "Enable synchro..." and select "'USB"
Also check the "Include PC..." box too.
Select the "ok" button at the top right
Now put your XDA in the cradle...
Active synch should pop-up and spin it's tray icon green spiny thing.
All should be well.
Start Explorer and there should be a "Mobile Device" item in "My Computer"
Good luck...

Else,
Did you try soft reset you XDA (small hole down left) or more extreem (as you will go back to factory setting and loose all data in it) by ard reseting it (very small battery hole down right) ?

Bluetooth Dialling from Laptop

I am using an XDA2 with a newly upgraded 1.60.00WWE ROM and was really pleased to see the update to Bluetooth to allow serial connections in this release.
I have a fax application on my laptop and want to connect the comport on the laptop to the BT comport on the XDA2
I click on the new checkbox 'Inbound Com Port' and everything seems well.
If I set up a dialup networking connection to an ISP, or try to fax, the port opens successfully but no data is passed from the XDA back to the PC, so the PC always thinks there is a hardware failure.
The same connection works well with a Nokia (but who wants to use a Nokia?
Anyone else having this problem, or can anyone offer some advice to get this running?
Mark.
O2 XDA2 on Orange

Im getting annoyed with activesync 4 and wm2005

It just sits there saying 'Connecting'
I tried the ip address change in Remote-NDIS Host
tried uinstall/reinstall Twice
Tried repair
tried outlook default mail
Tried turning firewalls off
im running XP pro with SP2 , activesync 4 (build 4343)
and wm2005 OS 5.1.1700 (build 14326.0.0.0)
Please help. Im sick of searching...
I upgraded my O2 XDA II tonight and everything went OK except like you my PC just sits there now "Connecting"
I know this may sound kind of strange: I tried disabling my software firewall on my PC (ZoneAlarm) as well as disabling Adware- Adwatch, but the PDA and the PC still wouldn't sync. AS 4 just displayed "Connecting".
I decided to also try disabling my antivirus software (Norton AV) in addition to the other disabled software and "suddenly" I can sync again!. Go figure.
Still cant sync...
Im transfering files via bluetooth until i fix this.
Still searching!
Really weird: I turn on the Norton AV auto-protect = no connection between AS & XDA. Turn off the Norton AV auto-protect = sync. I just spent the last hour bouncing back and forth to insure that Norton was the blockage.
The only thing I can suggest is download ActiveSync 4.0 from Microsoft's website, uninstall current version, reboot PC, install new version.
Mount PDA on cradle...
System will not recognize it again.
Unplug USB cable and plug it again BUT IN ANOTHER USB PORT on PC.
System will detect and install properly.
I hope this works for you as it did for me.

Rayan

WMDC ActiveSync No Connection

I have an Advantage x7500. I've installed the WM6 ROM here. My problem is I can't connect to my Advantage via Windows Mobile Device Center on my Vista box or ActiveSync on my XP box. The computer makes the expected sound when the USB connection is made, and in ActiveSync I can explore the device, but that's it. In WMDC, the error message for RapiMgr is "Windows Mobile-based device failed to connect due to communication (0x80072745) failure (see data for failure code)." I've done a lot of searching before I posted this and found a lot of posts (so at least I'm not alone). I've disabled firewalls, AV, anti-spyware, but no change. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled WMDC and ActiveSync. I do notice in Device Manager no Windows Mobile Remote Adapter under the Network Adapters node. Under the Mobile Devices node is HTC USB Sync. Any suggestions would be appreciated as I've been beating my head on wall on this. Thanks.

Thanks, but been there, done that. (I didn't want to waste everyone's time so I did use the search button first)
As I mentioned in my prior message, in Device Manager there is no Windows Mobile Remote Adapter under the Network Adapters node. Do those of you using WM6 have such an entry for that adapter?
.
I have the same problem, but in Vista.
Sync has been working fine, but now suddenly it wont connect.
.
ps: sync on my SPV C500 works perfect. It's only my X7500 that won't connect.
..
lo and behold.....xman06's solution in the other tread worked for me.
"Try to go on setting connection usbtopc and disable advanced network functionality and ok"
perfect

Thanks, but been there and done that too. (The downside of searching first is that all the usual solutions have been tried)
Tell me, under Device Manager do you have Windows Mobile Remote Adapter under the Network Adapters node? And under the Mobile Devices node do you have HTC USB Sync? I'm missing the former; that may be the issue but I'm not sure not knowing if others have it or not.
I bit the bullet and did a hard reset (too bad that doesn't work on spouses ) and ActiveSync started working again.
Kaiser / TyTN II WMDC Activesync no connection
I have the same issue described above. And no, the solutions given don't work. Not even a hard reset.
I am not sure what the issue is. Any ideas?
Similar problem solved
I had the same problem and went through many steps like those posted in this forum. I'm going to show my steps to solve this problem without hard reset your phone.
1) When the phone is connected, at the phone ActiveSync setting delete the PC profile.
2) Unplug the phone from the PC.
3) Uninstall and then reinstall the ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Center.
4) At phone system setting -> About -> make sure there is a name ID. Without this the PC cannot identify the phone and thus cannot sync.
5) Set the USBtoPC with 'advance network..." enabled.
6) To the extreme, before step 3, go to PC windows\inf and remove infcache.1 (need to add in an administrators account and set the privilage to full control). That may remove old corrupted drivers.
This page was coming up on the top list of google so i'll post my solution here.
I also spent hours trying to find the problem
uninstalled/reinstalled WMDC/Downloaded the latest version etc/Hard reset TYTN II/followed endless google searches, followed the instructions here etc etc.
Similiar to the OP i had windows making the "normal ding dong sounds but no connection happening.
In the finish what fixed my problem was with the device plugged in go to Device Manager on the PC and in "Network Adapters" select "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" and right click "Update Driver Software"
That got me back connected.....Hope it helps someone else out
Did it worked? I can't install WMDC without having my Pocket PC conected and when I have it it doesn't install anyway...
hey guys, if you have firewall installed disable it until the connection is made with your computer and phone, then re-enable your firewall.
this seems to be the problem solution for me all the time. Hope it helps.

Help with Activesync Error Message

I have a att 8525 with wm6. My pc has windows xp home edition service pack 2 2002 edition. When I connect phone via cradle upon reboot of the pc I get a message new hardware found it then tries to sync. After this attempt I get a message device not detected so I do the troubleshoot after the trouble shoot it comes up with 2 issues one which really confuses me. I downloaded activesync version 4.5 but here is the message I get below
1 To synchronize email etc with your PC Microsoft Outlook XP or later must be installed
2 Unable to establish a connection between pc an my device. It then gives a link to a guide for this with all sorts of changes to make on the phone etc. I have performed a great deal of them changes enabling and disabling settings they ask for etc but this has not resulted in any change or a connection
My biggest question concerns the first issue mssage I get. 1 unable to synchroniz with my pc because it seems to says Microsoft Outlook Xp or later must be installed. When i went to install the activ sync my windows xp home edition was listed as compatible. So I am very confused here. Do I need to upgrade to the outlook 2007 ( More Money damn ) or is there another way perhaps a lower version software or am I missing something. If it matters i am connected via wifi wireless router which I just installed Any Help will be greatly appreciated, greatly

I couldn't sync after I did my first ROM upgrade and it was an official upgrade from AT&T, thats how I found this place. I would suggest reading through the Hermes WIKI, then looking through the Hermes section, it was a REALLY BIG help to me. Now on to your questions:
You have to have MS Activsync installed on th PC, I would try finding v4.2 as I have been having problems with v4.5 and 4.2 fixed it.
Are you trying to sync with the USB or just with the WiFi connection???? I don't think you can sync via WiFi or Bluetooth.
You only need Outlook 2007 if you use it as your E-mail client (I don't use MS Outlook or MS internet explorer).
Sync Solution!!
I had the same problem. I tried on my 3 pcs & figured out. USB connection is the best for all connection & sync.
Microsoft Outlook XP or later is must to sunc contacts & e-mail. if you dont have those & have Outlook Express you need a program (I forgot the name) to install in your computer & cab in DPA which sync contacts with Outlook Express.
i did following.
For sync connection make sure you have all security disable or you allow main 4 files to communicate. check this troubleshoot for help on allow files for different security programs.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx
once you see device detection click "Explore" on active sync even it is connecting the device..if you see the phone files it means it is connected but somehow not synchronizing.
then try to muck aroung advance USB connection tick & untick. and also connected via The Work & The Internet connections in connection settings.
Hope it helps.

This happens to me when I upgrade to a new ROM, and I am unable to resync via ActiveSync. The first thing I check and gets me back to be able to sync 99% of the time is the USB setting on the phone.
Go to->Settings->Connections->USB to PC->Then UNCHECK "enable advanced network functionality"
That always gets me back to be able to sync again via USB. Hope that helps...(a little late I know....)

Touch Pro/Mobile Device Center Connection Problems

I have an issue with my VZW Touch Pro not being recognized by MDC and have torn out what little hair I had left trying to solve it. I know there are numerous threads of this type and I've read every one I can find but my situation is a bit different (aren't they all ).
Basically, when I hook up the TP via USB to my Vista machine MDC doesn't come up. If I launch it manually it comes up, sometimes flashes the "Connecting" message very briefly then goes to "Not Connected" and sits. OK. So why am I baffled and what have I done? Well....
1. If I set the TP to connect as a "Disk Drive" (as opposed to ActiveSync) Vista recognizes it and asks me if I want to explore files and folders, I can see the storage card;
2. In PC to USB I've tried both WITH Advanced Device Configuration enabled and not enabled;
3. I've installed Activesync on another (XP) machine to see if the TP will connect to it and get the same behavior;
4. I've removed the Remote Adapter and USB Synch in Device manager (following the standard MS troubleshooting guide) so that Vista installs the USB driver, just to make sure;
5. I INITIALLY installed MDC on this machine when I was trying an HTC Fuze. At that time MDC worked fine, recognizing the Fuze and asking me what I want to sync, etc.;
6. Since that time I've uninstalled and reinstalled MDC (several times) JUST IN CASE, although it shows NO existing partnerships;
7. I've turned off and actually removed the firewall even though, as I said, MDC worked fine before.
8. On the TP I've set ActiveSync (I'm hooking to an Exchange Server) to sync "Manually" and Windows Live to sync "Manually", JUST IN CASE that was the problem.
The only reason I really even NEED MDC is that I want to use eWallet and need to sync between the PC and Touch Pro.
I've used the TP as a modem for my laptop via Modem Link successfully, but while ML is set to USB the service is Stopped. Would THAT have any affect on this: one thing I've noticed is that when I plug the TP in the PC (sometimes) displays a message to the effect that it's trying to connect to a wireless LAN?????
Sorry for the length of this message but I figure the more info the better and this really has me stumped.
Thanks for any ideas.
if this helps yo in any way here it is.
i tryed to hook up my TP via WMDC on a Toshiba Tecra Laptop, with USB or Bluetooth and in the best case i managed to send files via bluetooth ... and the WMDC does not recognize the device, it installs some drivers for the cable (i think) and does not find any for the device, so ... it does the same thing as for you, tryes to connect for a second and after that it goes on a endless brake ... never connecting
on the other hand, i had no problems with a dell inspiron, with wista, it installed the drivers instantly and got connected immediately. the same with a Win XP dektop PC using activesync ...
i`m beggining to believe that the software is sort of defective on the toshiba. now i just send file from it and us the dell to sync my TP. i gave up on connecting the toshiba.
Pretty sure you have already tried this...but different USB cord maybe?

Thank you!! Solved my problem.
This seems to happen a lot... I just replied to another post in regards to this (though they replaced their Touch Pro). Instead of disabled advanced network functionality (which does let you sync), you should try this to repair the error as it has worked on a friend's Pro, as well as mine (I just had to do it 40 minutes ago). And make sure you re-enable advanced network functionality BEFORE doing this:
1 - Hook up phone to computer
2 - On phone, start ICS (Internet Sharing in Start -> Programs)
3 - Select PC Connection "USB" and Network Connection of any type (if Sprint stock ROM, I recommend using "Sprint")
4 - Hit the "Connect" soft-key (bottom left)
If you've never used Internet Sharing on the phone, your computer should install some drivers... Once that is completed, click the Disconnect left soft-key on the phone. Now disconnect the cable from the computer.
Close out ICS or soft-reset the phone.
Once the phone is back up, plug it in - it should work.
I don't know what is getting reset in the phone, but unless I connect with ICS, then ActiveSync will not connect whether I soft-reset or not.
