2005 compatibility - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

everybody and their uncle are hot 'n' bothered trying to get hold of 2005 for their xda2's which is of cause understandible
but from what i've been able to read it's on an alpha stage still
maybe if people collected their exp's with compatibbility
of like SD cards both memory and SDIO
backpack
bluetooth
applications
just to give people an impression of what to expect of their device after the upgrade compared to what they get now
??

had wm2005 running for about an hour now and im quite impressed with how stable it is for an alpha release,
using a SPV M1000 on orange UK network,
phone app works fine, sms working fine,
activesync working fine, also remote activesync to my companies exchange 2003 server works great.
conduits pocket player running but had to install onto a SD card (PQI 1GB) since there was only about 9MB of storage on the device,
when i sync the only error im gettin is a calllog module error as i have jeyo mobile companion 1.1 installed,
but so far so good,
congrats to everyone who made this possible! cheers guys,
regards.

Spritebackup runs, although you can't browse where to save the file and it only backs up if you de-select emails (something to do with the way it accesses the memory I'd guess).
Trying to run TomTom3, no luck so far
MSReader works.

I've some problems with activesync (can't connect)
In system proprieties the device is under "Network devices - Windows Mobile-Based Device" and not under "USB" or "USB Adapters"
In "Magneto" there isn't MMS client?? i've seen txt messages ; outlook... but not MMS
Thank's a lot (sorry for my english)

You also have to un select registry too.
Mappopolis will not work with Contacts database, Alarmtoday will not work with the categories in 2005 new Calendar database, there is more but I am drunk!!! **** it, go back to 2003.

About backpack:
video output works.
Auxiliar battery works.
CF slot not works.

Hello
 Battery Pack Pro from Omega One works great .
SPB Time is not working .
By the way I am going back to 2.20 which is the best for right now .
The problem I have with WM2005 is : after a few Resets my digitizer start becomes crazy and one thing is helps , its a few (few) Hard Resets .
2.20 was the first which one I did't do a Hard Resets for the last two month .

Anyone here who stick with WM2005?

Anyone here who stick and use WM2005 and no any plan of reverting it back to 2003se? i need your opinion why do you want stick with 2005 instead of se.
Becouse some of you dont have problems running 2005 some have and i have.
Well its my first ever post on here tho ive bben lurking for a year or so.ive done all the upgrades over the last year for the XDAII and i got to say the recent WM2005 O2 version found on here is perfect.
however like all new os'S there is alway going to be something that wont work correct.but this version of WM2005 is very good, for the first time ive got MSN,OUTLOOK EMAIL,O2 EMAIL,SMS,MMS all fully working without any glitches through my mobile phone isp O2-UK.
I had patiently waited for someone to crack the RAM problem and now they have id say go for it.
one tip put the HimaClearJumpCode file from a previous rom in the same directory b4 upgrading it saves having to configure it to in bootloader screen.basically just click your mouse and following the onscreen instructions!.

I am currently using Wm2003se2.2.0.7WWE I think it is, but since it was translated from Chinese, there are a few bits that don't look right, but other than that, it's fast, supports handsfree, and is the most stable 2003se ROM I have tried out of about 3 so far.
I am very tempted to try 2005, I even downloaded it yesterday in case I feel adventurous later.
I have AS4 running on my PC already, and although avantgo doesn't work, it seems much faster.
But since you are so happy with it on a UK network, I may well give it a try later on today after some meetings are out of the way, and I have some time to kill.
I installed WM5.0 a week ago and I already know that I won't be looking back to old OSes.
It's simply the best ever (I've been using Pocket PC since 2000) so I know what I'm talking about.
I can live with the few incompatibility problems I have encountered because I know they will be fixed soon by the talented people of XDA-Developers.com. They always do.
At first I installed WM5.0 to "test it" and to see what was all the "Buzz" about... (got that? hehehe)
But since that day, I noticed how quickly Buzz, Toe, JoJo and the gang fixes the "problems" so I more o less feel complete.
The overall performance of the PDA and the Phone is impresive!
The only thing I miss from previous versions is the Video Capture quality. This one simply sucks, but I'm confident that the gang will fix this soon!
P.S.- Again, I would like to thank Buzz, Toe, JoJo, mamiach and the rest of talented people for this marvelous release!
Best regards,
Rayan
OK, so far, I love it, but there are a couple of things that are proving to be a pain for me.
1) I can't install TomTom 3, need to find some GPS software that will work by the end of this week if I am going to keep 2005 on this device.
2) I don't know if my Socket BT GPS works because I have no GPS software to test it with.
Anyone got any suggestions for UK GOS software that works?
I'm sticking with WM2005
Since I installed it I have noticed the following benifits:
Performance is noticeably improved over any 2003/2003se roms I've run.
The anoying tendency to have both the BlueTooth Headset and the built-in speaker/microphone live during a call has been resolved.
My Frogpad BT keyboard is also natively supported. Overall a great experience!
The only problem I have encountered is the tendency of the MSN messenger piece to behave oddly. It'll sign on, get presence information for people, then when I try to start a conversation it will give me the conversation screen then take about 60 seconds while it claims it is 'connecting' In addition on occasion it will come back and state that a IM could not be delivered, but if I copy and paste it back in it works. It also has decided to put my e-mail attachments on the NAND partition rather than the SD partition.
I brought these issues up with my Microsoft TAM yesterday and he laughed.... Perhaps I should not have phrased it as 'Do you think it would be OK for me to open a ticket for my non-release beta copy of WM2005 that I got over the internet?'

OK, I love this, and I would really like to keep it, but, my Stowaway XT keyboard doesn't want to work either. I know it's only a driver issue, but it's still an issue for me.
I haven't even tried the VGA backpack yet :/
after all the xda is working for my every-day needs i will stay with buzzmobile 2005
I have used the wm2005, but the big thing that bothers me is that xbackup and spb pocketplus doesn't work. (battery indicator bar at the top, I love it! I first though it was some kind of bug, but now I never want any other battery level indicator.
For tomtom3 i'm using tomtom 4.40 now (works also with wm2005).
But there is nothing more worse then a sudden hard reset, and you can't restore any contacts because xbackup doesnt work.
Also I tried almost all of the roms here, and in my opinion the diamondrom 1.2 is the best complete and stable rom around here.
As long as xbackup isnt fixed on wm2005 i can't use it. Don't want to install all kinds of backup and restore programs. After a hard reset start xbackup and make a call.

What are you talking about?
Isn't persistant memory one of Windows Mobile 5.0 main features?
I have performed a couple of Hard Resets on purpose just to see if the whole system survives and let me tell you that it works flawlessly.
I can live without Sprite Backup for the time being!!!....
I successfully upgraded to WM2005 but am unable to get the hardreset to work (the key sequence I am using is power button + record button + camera button + soft reset hole, all at the same time). I have verified that each of these buttons works individually. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?
Also, when my xda is off, there is sometimes a pattern of faint black vertical lines on the screen which disappear when its turned on. I hadn't seen them before I upgraded to 2005.
Any help would be appreciated!
re WM2005
I found the hard reset combination quite tricky to do, took me a few tries to do it. Just hold the camera and record buttons very firmly, press the the power button and also stick the stylus in the reset hole. Keep holding the buttons for 3 seconds after you've felt the stylus nudge the reset button.
I'm using WM2005 and have found ActiveSync using GPRS to be a little less reliable than before. I have had to soft-reset 2x in the last 24hours to get GPRS working. It simply fails to connect when requested and says cannot find www.vodafone.net.nz (the APN for Vodafone NZ). When I reset it works beautifully.
Also it seems to me to be slightly slower than 2003SE. I don't know if it's the extra animations making it *appear* slower but it does feel less reponsive. Particularly opening messages and moving them. I was using 2003SE 2.06 and then 2.20-translated prior.
However, the extra ease of use that 2005 gives makes up for this by being more productive with the time I do spend on the device.
SPB Pocket Plus definitely does not work as I'd like it to and I miss the battery meter on the top bar, plus the multiple IE windows. The IE browser is much better on 2005 though and is quicker overall.
It works great with my Bluetrek G2 headset, no change in audio quality over 2003SE.
The Pocket MSN integration with Hotmail, MSN etc is amazing and very well done. If you use Hotmail and/or MSN Messenger a lot you'll love 2005.
I'm just doing some testing to see if Intellipad is losing my predictive text words. It seems like every time I soft-reset the words I manually added disappear
Intellidialer is a big loss too which I really miss. Can't wait for the 2005 port.
All in all, a good OS and major improvements, but yep a little buggy still. I'd recommend it if you don't mind soft resetting often and living with a few quirks, for the sake of improved useability and a better (in most places) interface.
My record + camera buttons don't work either in 2005 btw.
re WM2005
Forgot to mention -- RemotelyAnywhere doesn't work with Remote control either.
The ActiveX control that is designed for PocketPCs only works on PPC2002 or 2003, not 2005.
If you need to remotely control a PC or server then you will be stuck.

AND and by far the most important reason......I can give me mates with the XDA IIi the two fingers! ahh u may have wifi but u cant get 2005 working!! )
My only serious gripe is MSN messanger not working (fixed by using Agile messanger) and Tomtom 3's total refusal to install. (on that note i was able to start the install process and just before it crashes find the cab files in a temp directory and install them manually, it installed but when you run it, it comes up with "voice files not installed, blar blar" then the program runs for a second before crashing to desktop.)

Agile messenger works a treat on WM2005, and you can connect to MSN, AOL, ICQ etc...
Apparently WM2005 is smartphone compatible, so you could try TomTom mobile, I've heard it works, but the touch-screen doesn't (as it's built for phones). Haven't tried it myself though.
I will also not go back to 2003SE.
I'm using the full version since Saturday and I have no issues at all. All my buttons work. OK, once in a while the XDA freezes and I need a softreset, but that's more likely from the applications I installed which are maybe not 100% Magneto compatible. Also, I'm still trying to get the USB syncing to work. So far I sync via bluetooth.
I love that Contacts syncs the picture from Outlook on the PC. Much better than all the picture-caller ID software.
But really best of all: I don't have to be scared of hardresets anymore and I can use the XDAII until the battery is down.
I was thinking about buying the Mini or maybe the XDA IV when it comes out later this year. But I have decided to continue using my XDAII since it is just great with Magneto.
Cheers
Pat
I am interested to see why people think that they don't have to be scared of hard resets?
The Himalaya does *not* support persistant storage, unless you choose to save something to the flash rom, or SD card, you *will* lose it after a hard reset.
The OS does not give you the safety of the new features, that's still a hardware issue, so don't think you have persistant storage because the OS supports it.
WM2005
Hi,
I have installed WM2005 and fall back to WM2003SE twice.
1st: the chinese software CEstar cause the touch screen to hang (no respond) when I install it. Reinstall the WM2005 still face the same problem, so 1st fall back to WM2003SE.
2nd: After installing the WM2005, my Spectec SDIO wifi don't seem to be able to have the transmitter on. Able to see network available but cannot connect. Tried reinstall the driver but no result. Waiting for Spectec to reply regards to the driver. So 2nd fall back to WM2003SE.
Ric
but it does support a form of persistant storage as in permenent save / storage on the old roms
not really enough though.......
and if the persistant storage of newer devices save the data in flash then could it not be troublesome in the long run since flash have a limited times you can write on it before it goes belly up
much like a cd-rw or dvd-rw disc

WM5 's not better than 2003SE(for me) :(

Reasons:
1. Unable to connect ActiveSync even I am using AS 4.0.0
2. No Auto-Installation after hard-reset
3. Storage not accessible
4. Extended_ROM also not available even the ExtROM is unhided(for manual installation that software which should be auto-installed)
4. Camera settings and interface is not so good as the old version
5. Unable to restore backuped contacts from Storage
6. The main applications I am using was not better(such as Excel,Word, etc.)
7. Many other details(that I forget already)that let me thing about downgrade...
...downgrade to 2k3se v2.06 completed.
It's a big shame that it doesn't work as I have imagined.
Your opinion...?
I've used Buzz' version h for a while, and decided to switch back to WM2003 1.72 from O2 UK.
Mostly similar issues that you've experienced although I got AS4 working; camera / video no good, 2-soft-button format drives me crazy (somehow more taps required), I heard that AvantGo worked, but I always failed to do so. I also missed the persistent storage after hardreset. I also prefered xbackup, which couldn't work, rather than sunnysoft.
I didn't like 1.75 either, so I'm content with 1.72; it works best for me.
Just 1 question
The v1.72/v1.75 are 2003SE? Or 2003 simply? The v2.06 I am using is quite lazy/slow and therefore I am thinking about one more step to downgrade.
1.72 and 1.75 are not SE
Tomas, you really should have known about those problems before installation. It would have saved you a lot of fuking around .
As most of those problems you mentioned being fixable, I find even 1.50f to be very stable. I use my device in a busy office environment for mostly productivity tasks ie- outlook/contacts,w0rd, bt & wifi with no problems whatsoever. In my opinion BUZZMobile2005 rocks.
Im sure if you persist a little more and look past the small negatives you will find bm2005 better than all previous roms combined.
anways, cheers.

Yes. Anyone is able to adjust himself to anything. I will just wait for a while until these problems will be fixed(or until some solution will appeared). Yes I know that the new version should be much better than the old one but WM5 is at this time with all of this bugs nothing for me. As I wrote:It's a shame.

Black Touch 3.0 & MS VoiceCommand

You know, the one thing that would tip me over the contribution threshold would be to get MS Voice Command 1.6 to install on my Ameo/WM6. Every time, I get to the point where I am asked where to install it (device, sdcard, or microdrive, all with 60mb+ free), choose "device", then see the first block of the installer's progress bar. After a short delay, it tells me "Unable to install Voice Command due to insufficient space or insufficient permissions. Free additional device storage space and try again." The try-agains are pretty old now, each storage device blowing out the same way.
Annoyingly, it worked on AP Touch 2.0. More annoyingly, it does this with both my purchased copy, and those backup copies you may find at the less reputable windows mobile websites.
Any ideas of a workaround? I'm lost without VC on this device. Any rom cookers have any idea if a certificate or something is required, or omitted from the rom? Has anyone else managed to get it to successfully work?
TIA(DIA!)
you can always try cyberon

Are you installing from the PC or PDA using cab file? I have no problem with MSVC 1.6 and my x7500. I do install from the cab file on my pda, not from my pc..
If not using cab file, try putting the cab file on your pda and installing from there.
My MSVC and plantronics 510 work without any issues at all. Works great!
i had a similar issue with a few of my programs.but i solved it by doing a soft reset and that did the trick.im currently running a htc x7501 with pk 3,msvv 1.6 and motorola s9 w/no issues.hth
Hi guys,
as always, thanks for all the assistance you guys throw out... always a nice place to be.
Cyberon is ... well, you get what you pay for. It's joyless. I have no friends, so I need MSVC to have some dialogue in my life. "Play Media" I cry! "What would you like to play, by artis-" "BY ARTIST!" "Play Unknown, Unknown, Unknown, Podcast, Unknown, Unknown or Unknown?" "UNKNOWN!" and off it goes, my breezeblock of a phone still in my bag, people around me solidly convinced of my extensive social network.
Anyway. Installation. I looked into the Cyberon page you mentioned, Irus (thanks!), and there's some registry cleaning stuff around there. I'm going to try that, on the off-chance it's blocking the voice command install.
(if anyone's watching, had great success with the sony ericsson HBH-DS970 and HBH-DS980 headsets... handle stereo, voice command over bluetooth, and shows incoming ring numbers. Apparently both 'multipair' with different devices, but not played with it too much yet... only downside is they charge with SE's proprietary new chargers)
Eagle, yes, it's off the cab file. I am trying my original exe installer, the original cab, and a couple of warm versions I've seen around the place. None of 'em like it. Soft reset, reboot, power off... everything short of a hard reset.
Maybe I'll backup, hard-reset, and try installing to a clean v3 install. Gotta say, after playing with v2 of this rom, I was suffering. Hard reset and restore every few days. Other than this VC install issue (which may not even be a rom issue, it may be some other cruft I installed later), this rom is rock-solid, responsive, and reliable. It's the first time I've been on a WM device and felt like I could both count on it, and get some work done too. Top marks to the whole team (shuffles off to donate... )
HARD RESET and it works!
Baffling. So... do I uninstall things till I find the problem? Or reinstall from a hard reset (considering I've *only* just resolved 5 days of inactive sync grief...)
oh... donations to Athena Project on their way. Spend wisely!
hi davernee,
I have ms vc 1.6 running with pk 3.0. installed first pk, than adobe reader 2.0 followed by pk add-ons and finally ms vc.
no probs with installation. just needed to install th pk 1.0 fix for ms vc tgo get it running through headset. now working nearly perfect.

I had some problems with UK english version of voice command initially then it suddenly started working after a fresh ROM build.
It may be that installing jetware (name from memory) bluetooth tools helped this work, but it continued to work after removing them so I'm not sure if this was a co-incidence.
I didn't have to make any registry changes.
I'm using a jawbone headset and a plantronics 590. Both work fine with VC except that sometimes it is difficlt to get the 590 to trigger VC. I think it needs a double click rather than a single click.
Thanks for the feedback, everybody... maybe something misfired while I was setting it up the first time. Hard reset cleaned it all up, everything reinstalled, WMDC working (touch wood), backed up. Hope that helps anyone in a similar situation - hint: keep all your installation cabs and keys in a folder on your microdrive.

A reboot was all it took for me - these dual profile sony headsets seem a lot better with sharing music streaming and using voice command out of the box. I used to use a motorola stereo headset, but once the music started, voice command was gone... was on a WM5 though.

QTEK S200 G3 and WM6

I've read many posts, and also the upgrade guide, but I still cannot understand what ROM should I use.
I've found many comments on PDAViet, Cristal, ShadoW, etc., but I've not the competence (and the proper english language skill) to know what is the better choice.
I know that newbies are not well tolerate by experts, but I really need help.
1) What should i choose?
2) The upgrade guide is useful for any ROM?
Please any help is appreciated
look at the screenshots and choose the rom that you like best.. there is no best rom but there is a best rom for your needs and only you know whitch rom that is.
Yes I know.
Ok, can you tell me what ROM (of the Cristal or PDAViet type) is more stable and complete (in you opinion)?

I can't tell because I only use my Prophet for cooking now but I tried Crystal 5.1 and shadow 1 and shadow Touch. and they are all good although there have been some problems reported on all of them.
But you can also try one of my roms
Ah, ignorance is a big problem. For me is very difficult to read (and understand) dozen of threads. Now I have WM5 and I need an advice to upgrade to WM6.
By the way, I will try to flash some random ROM.
I will follow the upgrade guide, it's right for all ROMs?
An when I flash a ROM, the content of my Qtek will be erased?
A little Help
Yes, you'll end up lossing all your data and aps, so choose your ROM carefully. I've installed Fantasic 2.04b and now Gullum's Touch Xb, since I coudn't fix the problems on wi fi and bluethoot on the Fantastic.
First thing you need is a WM5 Basic ROM, I've user PDAViet Temp on Step 1 (Prophet_PV_Temp.zip). Just follow the guide (the old one).
Choose "ROMUpdateUtility_NV_G3.exe" witch is included on this Step 1. Remember that is normal that the process lock itself on 80/85% porcent of success for 10 minutes, allow it to run a max of 30 minutes before attemp any rescue.
As soon as the PDA resets, it will ask you to tap on the screen to start using Windows 5. Instead, execute the BAT file on your Step 2 choosed ROM;
In "ProphetTouchXB.rar", the installer is "Upgrade_ROM.bat". This updater works for G3 and G4 phones as well.
You'll receive a DOS windows with some cannot locate file error, disregard those. This process is the longest time comsumer. When the bat file finish you'll see a "Press any Key...." message in DOS.
Now you need to hard reset your device, press the camera button and the Comm button and the soft reset with the pensil (all at the same time!).
Most likely, when WM6 stars you'll not be able to access Contacts, it will close itself, you'll nedd to "Clear Storage", Start|Settings|System|Clear Storage (On Touch Xb), must performed until you see some action, if nothing happens after you click the option, then it didn't execute.
After you do so, you'll need to soft reset, change regional settings, date, city on the weather forecast, and that's all
Be aware that Touch Xb do not include Windows Live Messenger, so you can install it on SD or use some modified X ROM. Also MS Voice Commander 1.6 needs some tricks to anounce incoming voice calls, and you gonna need some registry changes to improbe volume on that program.
Previous steps that are recomended:
*Detele Sincronization profile in Active Sync 4.5 (and install 4.5 version), all your contacs would remain in MS Outlook, make a copy of the documents.
*Sicronize in Visitting mode (cancel the sicnro option windows, witch ask you to choose what to sincro, Contacts, Calendar, etc.). You will only have the "Expore" option in Active Sync.
* Charge the battery on 100%
* Use a notebook whit full battery load, of a PC with a UPS.
Hope it helps-
Many thanks!
I've installed Crystal, it works, but the real problem is ActiveSync 4.5; it's a very buggy app.
1. First I've got the problem of 85010017 error, and after many attempts, syncronizing 10 contacts at time, it seems I've solved the problem
2. Then the rapimgr.exe has become to use 99% of CPU. No solutions.
3. Restarting the computer, activesync have lost my previous settings, and now I should re-sync all contacts!
I'm very tired: I've seen that there is a program Nokia Intellisync, that could replace activesync. Maybe I will test it.

Its strange, you shoun't have that problem, active sync 4.5 works flawesly for me, with Fantastic 2.04b and Touch Xb, are you sure you format the storage area?, it is supposed to happens after the hard reset, but in my case had to be done manually in both occasions.
Yes, I do it. I had this problem months before, with WM5 and activesync 4.5; then I read some discussion about it, and downgrade to activesync 4.3.
Now, with WM6, the 4.3 is not supported, so I have installed the 4.5, but it's impossibler to use it. 99% CPU used, 85010017 error on sync (I know they are two different/indipendents problems).
try uninstalling & installing back activesync & see if it helps
also do a proper hard reset after upgrading
congrats! you managed to upgrade your prophet!!!
I bet is a Windows problem...
Its a Windows or USB Problem.
Update BIOS
Reinstall Windows XP SP2, or some up to date Vista.
Reinstall Activesync
If none of this helps, check for a bargain motherboard, if you got a PC Chips, ECS, Asrock, Gigabyte, Aopen, Foxcomm, drop it in the trash container and buy some ASUS, or if you are in a budget, MSI.

I've done both things, but without results. It's a common problem for many users, as I've seen in several forums.
The 85010017 error seems to happen with AS 4.5 due to a 2 minuts limit in sync. If, in your first sync your data are many (contacts, calendar), then you can reach this time limit and you'll never be able to resolve it (4.3 had no time limit and works perfectly).
The "99% CPU" error may be related to some communication bug within handheld and PC, that generate an idle loop. I've tried also to change the connection from NIDS to serial, but I wasn't able to let it work.

I'm sure you're right, but... On the other hand, many (I think most) people are using AS 4.5 without any pain, even with big sync-files. So there should be something different on your PC.
Not really a helpfull solution, but it is a waste to spend your time on generalities if they aren't the cause of your problem. Anyway, good luck.
It's not my PC, as I have the same problem with 2 different PCs (acer aspire, macbook boot camp), one with xp home sp2 and another with xp pro sp2. And I cannot understand why AS 4.5 is full of errors and 4.3 no.
It's really bad if the only solution is to downgrade to WM5 to use AS 4.3...

As I said, I can't help you, but keep in mind that thousands of WM users are doing the job with AS 4.5 without any alteration. So, I don't want to offend... But I think you do something different. And if it's not the PC, then there might be something out of order with your PPC (hardware or any third-party software?) I asume you tried different USB-cables as well?

I've used different USB cables. I know so much people have AS 4.5 working, but, as you can see by the links I've posted before, I'm not the only one with this kind of problem.
I think, simply, that if certain conditions happens, then you got those errors (also if you are not me...). The problem is to identify these conditions to resolve the problems. A third-party software? Maybe.

I've clean-installed xp pro sp2 on a new partition, no firewalls nor antivirus, no third-party software except for outlook 2007 and AS 4.5.
Always the same two problems.

And on your PPC? Anything out-of-the-ordinairy installed?
If not, maybe you should try to sync with only a few contacts, appointments etc. At least you can find out if it has something to do with the file-size (I don't think it's related, but you never know). If you hadn't tried it on several PC's I would have bet that is was a hardware/BIOS issue.
I'm puzzled.
On my Qtek s200 there is a fresh install of crystal 5, that erased all. I've not downloaded any other program.
Maybe the problem is the file size (at least for the 85010017 error); for the CPU 99% error, I really don't know how to do.
Installing a demo of Intellisync, the 85010017 error is bypassed (because the AS syncronization is not used), but not the CPU error, because Intellisync needs however Activesync to works.

HTC S740 many Question!

Hello Friends,
Yesterday i got my NEW HTC S740 smartphone! I have to say that i'm really newbie to smartphones but i love this phone!!
I found all the features of the phone and i have to say that i'm very pleased with it! My problem is that i can't - fear to connect the phone to my computer!!
When i insert the cd of HTC in my computer it asks me to download Flash player. I download flash player and then i install it on my computer but i still can't open the cd!! Also i have installed Active Sync 4.5 on my pc! What i wanna ask is, can i connect the S740 on my pc with only Active Sync 4.5 or i have to install the program of HTC (the one i can't find because i don't have flash player)?? How can i fix the problem with flash player?
thanks in advance
My Activesync has probs with Vista
Not sure if this helps but from memory my activesync didnt work with vista and I needed some other syncing software for vista. I found it pretty easy so do a google search on syncing problems here.
I now sync my TYTN2 to my iMac and it works great as the iTunes all come across with no probs.
Enjoy
My friend i have XP! What about the problem with flash player? Why i can't read the cd?
In fact, if you've installed ActiveSync, you don't need anything else from the CD (maybe except User's Guide from the second disk). It contains (packed in Flash animations) just sync programs and few links. Anyway, if so curious, try to explore the CD and run start.exe directly from there...
Working ActiveSync should sit (greyed) now in the System Tray on the right side of the XP's bottom Taskbar. Right click over the icon and choose Connection Settigs... On following dialog first check the box Allow USB Connection.
When you'll connect your Rose to the machine now, it will start working without hassles. If any problems, first check the manual and if lost anyway, let us know again.
Ok i will try to connect with Active Sync!
WOW it worked!! thank you my friend!! Does the cd contain anything else useful?
Not really... Just links to WM 6.1 Home on Microsoft... Have a look there on TotalAccess, they're some freebies avalable.
On little trick for other places - open the connection dialog (as above) again and have a look, if the last box (Allow wireles...) is UNchecked. If so, hanged on USB your Rose will connect to internet trougth PC - it's faster and 100% "free".
And have a look on your built-in mobile favourites on Rose - you'll find a HTC page with few links. One little warning - you'll find there a link to Adobe FlashLiite, which does not work on Rose... Good tip is to check Google Maps application and maybe SkyFire (alternate browser with YouTube support).
As Pocket Internet Explorer tends to ignore WiFi connection, alternate browser is good to have anyway. Another, very solid option is Opera Mini. Just be aware - it's Java application. After installation you'll find it in Java console (it's in Accessories folder).
Enjoy!
thank you me friend for giving me these useful tips! It's really helpfull and will help me understand better my smartphone!!
P.S. How can i see youtube and generally streaming videos on my S740? I visited youtube but i couldn't watch videos!!
Until Adobe will understand, that WM 6.1 Standard has no limitations in that (the FlashLite just denies to install), as far as I know, the only way I see is the SkyFire browser as mentioned above. Just read Privacy statement on their site first, you'd probably not like info they're collecting...
Oh ok! And something last...
I want to buy an extra card because i need more space! What kind of card does it take?? Micro sd or Mini sd?? Confusing!
Micro. Don't be confused, on commercial photos they look the same, because usually sold with adapter in Mini size (micro is then just delivered inserted in the adapter).
Crossfingers with inserting card into the slot as this is only thing which drove me insane on early beginning...
Therefore I would recommend you the largest possible card to avoid a need to change it. As Rose supports the latest standards of SD Cards, you can use any size up to 32GB. Speed of the card isn't really critical - major snail in file operations is Windows Mobile file system. But this is area of little wizardry, because it depends on size, brand etc. With hight probability the most critical operation from this POV is video capturing by built-in camera.
So my recommendation is - don't spend money for useless speed, prefere size (otherwise you'll after few changes of cards in the slot throw Rose against the wall ;-) ). And if possible, just for sure, try to record some video on the card in highest size first directly in the shop and you'll see...
So, what i need is a Micro Sd card 32GB? Right?
Yeap. First word of my previous post...
Obviously, smaller sizes works as well and some (1-2 gigs) are today sold for nothing...
Maybe it's time to open 2nd CD with the manual (promise - no flash, just PDF file). I understand first confusions if somebody meets first Windows Mobile phone and enthusiasm (especially in combination WM + Rose ;-) ) should be supported.
Nevertheless in this stage manual would be faster than me (leaving for single malt "dinner" with friends ).
Ok my friend. Thank you for all your help! I will open the manual!!
