Merging WM2005 With WM2003SE??? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Guys that may be a stupid question , but has anyone thought of trying to merge the WM2005 With 2003se. That would be absolutely great. I was running 2003se for a while now, but After Trying the WM2005 I am totally dissapointed with the previous one. I just wish i had more knowledge of working with the bloody code. WM2005 is absolutely B-A-Utiful. tottaly love IT despite all the bugs it has. ...

from what i read about windows CE5 ak. mw2005 then it's one of the biggest steps for windows CE since 3 which was a world of difference over the earlier versions of CE
so i fear that it would be like trying to mix windows 3.11 and windows XP

it would be a nice idea, to get rid of ram problem with 2005.
2003se & 2005 merged realy a nice upgrade.

Andes Upgrading? Any options at all?

Yeah, after moving from Palm to Windows i've been a tad disappointed with the performance and bundled software. Im looking to upgrade and i noticed the nice xda developers rom but it seems that the Himalaya is the only model it can be used on. Same goes for Windows Mobile 2005 and practically everything else; at least from what i can tell from the forums. Are there any options for upgrading my phone? Decent FTP, faster USB transfer, a good file browser and japanese support are my main items, as well as a general iron out of bugs. It seems that the ROM mentioned above has most of these in. Since im a Mac user its a pain using Windows every time, so a one shot deal would be rather nice. Cheers
The Andes and Himalaya are the same as far as I know.
------------------------------------------------------------------
BUT...they have diff rom...
as far as i know then the andes have a "better" cam
a faster cpu
wifi
and some other things which mean they cant share roms

Did Pawel062, ltxda, Cmonex and Olipro give up on the Athena and move on to the polaris?
Its been a couple of months since the their last rom and I have been hoping to try another one. Has it really been two months?
Wonder if anyone else is willing to build one, or Midget update his rom kitchen with new os and easier to use like pandora's kitchen for Hermes, or will the original group still release their secret rom version 4?
A new rom from Pawel062 would be my preference tho.
Post #423 in the AP Dual Thread indicates they are working on it.
they will be releasing a surprise in a few days or weeks that will make our athena become more powerful. Maybe a video driver fot he ati chipset?
They have said it will be a while before V4 is released so more likely weeks rather than days. Not sure what else they can add but I'm sure it will be great.
In the mean time I'm happy with V3
an update for the kitchen is on its way
takes longer because i have to get someone with an athena to test it
well im waiting to recieve a new build *cough* midget.. the new build with have the latest of all the apps. we before have been working on expanding the os.nb so more will fit in the rom making the extended rom maybe even empty. this would mean u would have as much storage as if u wouldnt let anything install from extended rom.
we are hopping to also maybe get the snapvue orientation done for 4.0 I dont know if what we want will work but we haven't really tried yet. remember also im working t the same time on a polaris rom for those people. that doesnt mean i aint working here. i am using a newer beta of a build i got a few weeks ago. too bad this build isnt releaseable.
we have a few more suprises up our sleeves but i cant reveal everything
Thanks for the update Midget and Pawel, can't wait to see your latest developments. We appreciate both of your efforts and time spent to make our devices more productive and usefull. And thanks to ltxda for his contributions, testing and very helpfull responses to many, many questions.
Since 6.1 for UNI is released, I can post here a basic clean 6.1 ROM for athena. But Before that I must take permissions from Oli and Pawel, if they say yes, then I do that.
no need. we will have same space if clean or full as said previously. u probable have seen this already.

Can you give us your initial impression of 6.1 versus 6? I'm very curious to know the difference in terms of performance, signal strength, battery life, and what major UI enhancements there are.
Thanks!

A clean basic one would be fantastic. I don't mind not using up the space as long as I don't have unwanted software appearing. I would rather install all software myself, so that I can choose my own and upgrade to newer version whenever I want.
Would be fantastic to go to 6.1 now. Can you PM me to let me have it please?
I was about to stop using athena, but then came 6.1 and I could cook using pawel kithen with T mobile wm6 ROM as a base ROM.It became so responsive that i can't imagine.very fast and snappy, feels like there is a 624 Mhz processor.Threades SMS is good, and now u hv signature "Sent from my Windows Mobile Device" in mails, and some improvement towards phone side, viz easy contact lookup.
Would be great to see a nice clean ROM with as less as possible! can hardly wait to discover what you can do with 6.1!!

Checking the registry, the filesystem, and the ati config txt file in \windows, it looks to me like the ATI is very much being supported. Its not the same issue as the big Qualcomm problem HTC is having - the Advantage is a PXA270+ATI.
The video playback issue is likely due to the fact that TCPMP/CorePlayer team have *never* gotten their ATI support sorted. Since thats the only player we've got, the problem effects everyone.
Performance on my x7501 is about the same as my HX4705 and the registry settings indicating ATI drivers are definitely there.
HKLM\Sytem\DDraw\DeviceEnum indicated ace_ddi.dll (thats the ATI driver)
\Windows has the ATI driver files and also the config file: atihwtbl0.txt
Selecting Imageon Decoder in TCPMP *does* work, the support just totally sucks and their support is for a different Imageon series to begin with (the 3200). The CorePlayer team claim they expect to sort out the ATI issues and have been working with ATI. We'll have to wait and see.
other than TCPMP, video performance for me on the Advantage is fine (scrolling, games, menus, etc). The symptom of having no driver support (as on the Qualcomm chipset) is horrible ddraw performance all over the place (scrolling, switching orientation, etc)
OK, so we are now saying that Athena has got ATI supported?
If so then why is media player so crap at playing videos full screen? Or has Microsoft not integrated ATI support properly into that too?
The whole thing is a shambles as Microsoft and HTC clearly work closely together as the wizard has been a part ofthe MS Windows Mobile website for ever and they cant use the image etc without permission can they....
If it's TCPMP's fault then shame on them... letting this run away with us and not bothering to comment that it's their fault all along!! You're not telling me they dont read this forum! LOL Come on guys own up and let's get on with things. The Athena is a brilliant machine let down by a few niggles that can easily be sorted I'm sure!
Basically yes, thats what Im saying.
WMP has always been pretty horrible on Win Mobile, so I dont even count that.
TCPMP support for ATI has always been REALLY bad going ALL the way back. My first VGA ATI device was the Toshiba E750! They've never gotten it right. They have always blamed ATI but claim (now that they are a commercial entity) that ATI is working with them and a final fix MAY be in 1.2 (which MAY be due in Feb)
You can go to coreplayer.com, search for ATI and see the gory details. WAY more devices have had the Imageon chip then this batch and NONE of them have been good. The Qualcomm chips have a different problem. If you check the registry, I believe that on those guys, the generic MS drivers are referenced and the ATI drivers arent included. Im not sure if anyone has tried copying them on and changing the registry, but the key would be getting that ATI driver config txt file right. That would be hard I think.
On the x7501, that stuff is all there. It looks JUST like my HX4705 just with different settings in the ATI txt (which makes sense - its a different Imageon). That leads me to believe that the ATI is integrated just fine.
What leads us to believe it isnt? TCPMP performance and WMP performance right? Well... performance on those has sucked for EVERY Imageon device and is an acknowledged issue by them.
This is good news really! If 1.2 comes out in Feb and does what they say, these issues on the Advantage will go away. The HTC Qualcomm devices will still suck.
The way it works with MSFT isnt quite what you'd imagine. They supply the OS and its agnostic. They supply it to OEMs and it requires two key things in order to actually be implemented - a BSP (board support package) and a RIL (radio interface layer). It is up to the OEM (HTC in this case) and the radio provider (often Qualcomm) to come together and integrate the Win Mobile OS onto the hardware and "plug it in" to those two lower level components.
Its almost like imagine if Windows NT was out of MSFT control from the HAL on down. Thats how it is with Win Mobile basically. Its a deliberate decision to give OEMs and carriers power and hence 1) stay out of monopoly court which is where EVERYONE wants MSFT ALL the time from now on and 2) encourage them to actually jump on board (in the face of powerful phone incumbants).
It can be good and bad. The good its lots of devices from all kinds of folks with all sorts of neat possible hardware and a common set of APIs, system software and UI. The bad is **** like this debacle with HTC. Apple and Nokia would be the diametrical opposite. Where the hardware OEM is also fully integrating the OS and, presumably, the radio and just submitting it to a carrier for compat testing. They have monolithic control over their devices and are, in essence, monopolies within their platform. Qualcomm is a pain in the ass in that they are a huge radio provider, jumped into software with BREW (which got huge traction) and generally is a powerhouse in the mobile space, yet is notoriously very difficult to work with and pretty draconian.

[Q] WM6.5 or Android or WP7 ?

Which OS would you like to use on your hd2 for daily usage?
I'm an android freak, I am all about Android.
But my God does Windows Phone 7 run smooth.
ans to tell the truth im really enjoying it. no laggyness, its simple, everything is accesible, i think that in the end im going to stick with WP7 im really enjoying it, jsut one downer, apps... we need more, and more of them to be free. i dont feel liek paying 2.99 for fruit ninja
Microsoft is just not that good !!!!
WP7 on HD2 reminded me of 2 things
- the S-class UI from LG.... everything is flying and jumping but...... thats about it !!!!
- stupid Apple policy with itunes !!! everything has to be done through Zune ! nothing is complete in the system( eg copy paste )
good for a day or 2 then back to android baby

For now... stock Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM.
It's stable, Sense is VERY nice, it's working very long on battery (Android and WP7 have battery drainage issue) and... I like it. Maybe I used Android for too long and now want a change (WM is something new to me), but I simply enjoy using WinMo.
Probably I will end up on some Desire NAND Android in the end .
vote
Window Mobile 6.5 = 25.93%
Android = 40.74%
Windows Phone 7 = 33.33%
poll results !!! do u agree ??? give us your vote
Winmo 6.5 is good for Tomtom / Java and it runs all my old work programs butit is sluggish and old style
Android is excellent for cloud computing and multimedia (except TCP/MP)
WP7 is smooth and new (but not enough apps and nothing compatible)
Well if there needed to be one it would be android but i would loose all my old apps....
I like the double boot WM6.5 Android. I am eagerly awaiting for a double boot Android NAND / WM 6.5 (maybe i am dreaming)
I will try Ubuntu when a working version will be ready.
Bravo to all the chefs

What to expect?

Hi there
Im currently a windows 6.5.5 user on an HD2 with custom ROM.
However my upgrade is due in a few weeks and i have been eyeing up the Titan.
Im aware WP7 is a different OS to win mo 6.5.5 but how different? Ive played with Android and it just doesnt do what i want it to so felt the need to stick with the Windows OS.
does the app store for WP7 have enough in it to keep you amused or is it still a bit bare?

If you din't find satisfaction from Android Market, I highly doubt Windows Market is yet ready for you. The key features missing right now in my opinion are:
-system back up
-sms back up
-few major apps (I don't care about apps, I've got all that I need)
-customization (we will have unlock hopefully soon!)
Other than this, I think it looks much more professional that Android at most stages. Communication, social networking - is integrated like no other OS and it will only get better with 2 updates in 2012!
If you are someone who has patience for atleast next 6-8 months - Buy titan, you will love it!
If you are someone who has patience but has huge surge of apps daily and huge need to customize things - Get Android. By the time you finish your 2 year long contract, we will surely have Windows Phone 9 which I can bet will be the most amazing OS ever! (here is to wishful thinking!)
In a nutshell I can say, I've gone from WM6- WM6.5- WM6.5.5- Android2.2 -Android2.3- Android2.3.5- WP7.5 and I thought this was the most amazing thing I held in my hand since a long long time! - "It just works"
How you like Windows Phone 7 is really going to depend on how you currently use your Windows Mobile and/or Android phone.
Windows Mobile (and Android) let you go crazy with customization, mods, ROMs, etc. Windows Phone 7 is very locked down. Not a whole lot of customization. But because its so locked down, its incredibly stable (does not crash or slow down as often, if at all). The number one thing about Windows Phone 7 is that it just works. No tweaking, or hacking the registry, or installing modification on top of modification. You turn it on, 15 seconds later, it just works, flawlessly.
If you use Outlook and a USB cable to sync your information (contacts, email, etc.) to your phone, then you can't do that anymore. Windows Phone 7 only lets you sync media (pictures, music, videos) to your phone via the Zune software. Everything else is in the cloud and tied to your Windows Live account.
Windows Phone 7 offers unparalleled connectivity and integration with Microsoft services (Hotmail, Zune, Bing, Xbox Live, etc. etc.).
If you are living alright with the Marketplace currently on Windows Mobile, then the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace easily beats that one easily. Only difference is that without some kind of developer unlocking of your phone, you can load apps from your PC like you could with Windows Mobile.
Really you just have to try it before you really commit. Most people love it, fewer hate it. Coming from Windows Mobile, and depending on your current view of Windows Mobile, you may see it as a giant leap forward, or a big step backwards.
I came from Windows Mobile 6.5, and then Android, and now Windows Phone 7, and I just can't go back to anything else. My phone, just works, and its fast, and fluid, and beautiful, and its got the apps that I need, and the integration with Microsoft stuff that I use.

You can't load your contacts via USB cable as a USB device, but you surely can sync your Outlook contacts, emails, tasks, calender wirelessly flawlessly too!

As you've got a HD2 I'd recommend using Yuki's Win 7 ROM. I did and that convinced me to move onto the Titan (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250869).
As for the other comments on WP7, I agree WP7 is locked down however I'm quite happy with what's available on the Marketplace and I'm convinced that the experts at XDA will find ways of allowing us to mod as with WP 6.5.

Well WP7 is designed with a different mindset... Namely, that you get all your information as fast and efficiently as possible, and therefore you spend less time playing with the phone and OS itself, and more time using it (as a tool). For example, you wouldn't spend hours a day playing with your screwdriver =D.
When you adapt to this mindset, you'll find Android and especially iOS just cannot compare.
Of course the exception is WP7 has excellent media functions and games. The XNA developer tool allows for beautiful games to be created much easier for WP7, and as XNA is already used for Xbox arcade games, many of those Xbox titles can be and have already been ported to WP7.
Sent from my PI39100 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Cheers for the input
I'm looking forward to a new device!

Hi All,
I have a Titan and I loved WP7 and the PPC too, I'm coming from HD2 with WM6.5.
Here what I'm missing on WP7 and I had on WM6.5:
- categories: the categories of outlook are not syncronized (I could on WM6.5)
- phone-numbers: NOT all the type of phone number of a contact of Outlook are present on WP7.5, so if I have a contact with a radiomobile number, this is not present in the contact on my smartphone (WM6.5 had ALL the contact's fields of outlook)
- mail exchange: I can not insert my "not working hours" when I do NOT want mail are syncronized. On WM6.5 I could set whaen I want it to work automatically (working hours) or manually (not working/holidays hours - i.e. night, saturday sunday)
All these things are incredible if you think that this smartphone should be the best for Office365 (and exchange of course)
I hope things will be better with Tango or WP7.8 or WP8...
