Upgrading my XDAII unit. - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Hi, I'm new here and I haven't tried to upgrade my XDAII unit.
I have a few question regarding this.
1. Will this void my GLOBE warranty? I have a 2yrs contract with GLOBE and currently I'm in the middle of it (1yr).
2. How to determine the current version of my unit?
ROM version: 1.66.00WWE
ROM date: 02/20/04
Radio version:1.08.00
Protocol version: 1337.18
ExtROM version: 1.66.165
3. When I upgraded my ROM would it be permanent? Meaning everytime I hard reset my unit it will install the new ROM?
4. Can I return to my original ROM?
5. Can I backup my current ROM or is there a downloadable version of my ROM (default ROM for XDAII)?
6. Which is stable 2003se or 2005?
Thanks.
P.S. other question will arise. Sorry if this sound stupid but pls understand that I'm new here.

1. Will this void my GLOBE warranty? I have a 2yrs contract with GLOBE and currently I'm in the middle of it (1yr).
Yes, when you flash your rom with a other rom than the original then your warranty is over. So upgrade is at your own risk :!:
2. How to determine the current version of my unit?
ROM version: 1.66.00WWE
OS version
ROM date: 02/20/04
Release date of Rom
Radio version:1.08.00
This is the version of your phone unit
Protocol version: 1337.18
Don't no
ExtROM version: 1.66.165
This contains additional software from your provider.
Can be unlocked and changed. How check this forum
3. When I upgraded my ROM would it be permanent? Meaning everytime I hard reset my unit it will install the new ROM?
Yes, so make a backup of youre original one:idea:
4. Can I return to my original ROM?
Yes, it's possible. If you have it or backed it up
5. Can I backup my current ROM or is there a downloadable version of my ROM (default ROM for XDA II)?
Don't no if there is a specific Rom for youre device. Check the site if GLOBE. Otherwise search this forum for backup software
6. Which is stable 2003se or 2005?
I think WM2003SE is more stable i know because i use it.
I tried WM2005 but when TomTom 5 (navigation software) was not working at that moment i downgraded to WM2003SE.
But the choice is all yours
I don't know everything so maybe there are others who can check my answers. And correct me. I don't want to tell you the wrongs things

Thank you very much [email protected].

welcome kabayan!
warranty????
how about saving(backup) your original rom...ha?
i am smart postpaid user...i reflashed/upgrade/downgrade my device many times.
when i have a probs with my device i just go back to the original rom and going to the smart center with no probs...
EASY!
why is it voiding the warranty...you are only just tweaking the software not the hardware...there original rom is too buggy, they don't have any upgrade or patch to this probs....only one solution is to upgrade from this forum...
:x

Hi kabayan.
Nice to hear from someone closer to me. LOLz.
I have read all you post and its greate. You deserve a two (more) thumbs up. Anyway, I have read in you post that there are too many patch needed. Can I have the version on the current stable ROM you have and all its related files.
One more thing, there are 4 software to be patch right? ROM, Radio, Protocol, ExtROM. Correct me if I'm wrong, based from the above post. I can upgrade to MW2003se my ROM, Radio, and Protocol then have a different ExtROM?
Does the ExtROM contains all the default application installed in the unit when we hard reset it?
Thanks Kabayan.

New Eddition will be Avilable Soon for from I-mate v.1.66

I am already reg. with I-mate as owner of one of it products, I got informations from them say that new room will be avilable soon it is ver. 1.66 for XDA II maybe next few days, and the windows Ver. is Windows 2003 SE
at all when I got the link to download it I will publish the link for everyone, Thank you for everyone published that great support using XDA II and XDA. it was great help to me to came very expert in solving problems to my XDA and XDAII
as my profile say then
i have
RUU 1.66.00WWE
RSU 1.10
on my qtek2020 it came with that
as far as i can tell it's not 2003 SE
specs
ROM version: 1.66.00WWE
ROM date> 02/20/04
Radio version 1.10.00
protocol version 1337.18
extOM version 1.66.140
I published what I already read in I-mate forum, I didn't have it yet ...... by the way all new edditions of XDAII coming with v. 1.66
so Rudegar
as it is getting really stressy to have the latest release... ;-)
do you have any ideas about the improvements with your
1.66.00 ROM over the 1.60.00
Alex
hmm, can you post a copy of your rom?
you can copy the rom with pmemdump from itsutils.
well it had that rom when i got it so i cant really compare it with 1.60 since i went from a xda1
i'll look into drumping the rom
but it does seem to have some auto settings and such for
some phone company
usually the phone company specific stuff is in the extended rom.
itsme:
usually the build number is just the ExtROM right? example, the latest tmobile rom i saw in the other thread had 1.60.36, but the os was simply 1.60.00, and the radio was 1.10.00, and the extrom was 1.60.36
does that mean that IF we extract whatever newest rom that comes out in the future and see that it has the same osrom ver and radio stack, merely upgrading the ExtROM is the best way to go?
I mean i know people prefer to only flash the ExtROM, but that's because they want to cook something up. But what if you just want to upgrade and not waste time with the OS if you see they still have the same number, does it HAVE to come hand in hand to upgrade? Or could you just bypass the others and upgrade the ExtROM and expect it to perform like a real update?
yes, that is what I usually do.

question bout upgrading

greetings!
i presently have a
xda 1 here in the philippines
rom version: 3.14.17 ENG
radio version: 4.16
protocol version: 32S54
my question is, is it advisable or necessary to upgrade my rom version to the new version found at 02 official site? i already downloaded it but i haven't installed it yet.
i've learned in the forums the golden rule that DON'T TOUCH THE RADIO VERSION AS LONG AS IT WORKS. so i will not ask bout the radio version anymore.
please help me...thanks!
if you can extract the ROM upgrade files only, then it's OK to go to any WM2003 ROM
my device is only WM2002. does it matter? is it ok to upgrade the ROM to the latest version 3.20.06?
I upgraded mine last night - there are a few subtle differences.

Click to collapse
ROM 3.20 is PPC2002 not a WM2003 ... you can upgrade to 4.01.16 if you still want WM2003 ROM
Once again, don't touch the RSU!! ... play with the ROM only
thanks guys!
sorry guy's another question cause for everybody's info im just a newbie and i'm scared of messin up my phone. anyway, i've read problems with the synchronization or restoring data on the phone after upgrading the ROM here in the forums. will i just follow the steps given by myxda.com? or i really need to back up my ROM to an SD still?
sorry guys just wanna make sure. thanks!
it's strongly recommended to backup the current ROM to SD card ... I mean the backup option in the bootloader menu not the xbackup utility

Can I upgrade to ROM 1.72 WWE? - Philippines

Hi,
I am a Filipino and I have an XDA II with
ROM version: 1.66.00WWE
ROM date: 02/20/04
Radio Version: 1.08.00
Protocol version: 1337.18
ExtROM version: 1.66.165
Can I upgrade my ROM to version 1.72?
What file shall I use?
How do I upgrade?
Will upgrading affect my settings with the service provider, GLOBE
TELECOMS?
Shall I wait for O2 to release their updated ROM for Asia?
Please help me. I always get an unexpected hard reset(my fon won't turn on). What is the best option?
THANX!
yes you can... its up to you if you want to wait for the official O2 release, or if the hard reset keeps on bugging you, you can upgrade it using the official IMATE release... but you should save the provider settings and all.. or either that, or call up your operator for the GPRS settings.
just follow this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=10866
Thanx Waxx! I'll try it tom. I hope it will solve the hard reset bug that I've been reading and experiencing. I've noticed that most of us who get unexpected hard resets have ROM ver 1.66WWE. O2 is really unfair for being silent on this topic.
One last question, what will the O2.cab do? Just restore the O2 startup screen? Will the new ROM 1.72 have "autoconfig" program? Can I use autoconfig to setup GPRS and Internet?
Thanx again!
im not familiar with congfiguration... because mine didnt have the auto configuration.. im thinking that youre referring to auto configuration for the asian ROMs for the settings?? if that is so, then im afraid that upon upgrading, you wont have the autoconfiguration option. this is because you are upgrading your ROM with an imate 1.72 (another provider) and it is based on UK.. so i guess no asian autoconfig. if ever there would be an autoconfig button, im sure it would be of the european providers. but i really dont see an autoconfig button.
as always exercise extreme caution when upgrading...when you put in the 1.72 rom downgrading will be difficult...beware   beware  you might end up having more than you bargained for.
regarding the hard resets; you may want to perform another hard reset but don't install any programs / apps. run the unit as it is; "naked" and without any new stuff installed. if the phone still hangs then go for the upgrade. if not; well as the thread says it's your choice
cheers

What is the most current OS version for my phone?

I live in Kansas City, Missouri and have the T-Mobile XDA I (or whatever it is called). I bought it with the 2002 OS on it and upgraded to the 2003 version that I found on the t-mobile website. I was curious if there was a newer, more stable version out yet that is official yet? The version I currently have on there is:
ROM version: 4.01.16 ENG
ROM date: 2/4/04
Radio version: 6.25.02
Protocol version: 324e4
Is this the newest one for my phone and if not where can I find the newest one?
THANKS A TON!!
Can someone PLEASE help me out here?
There is no newer Version of ROM available.
As much as i know, T-mobile removed this release, because they have some problems with it.
From O2 there is an version out (4.01.12) but this had never been official released on their website to download.

I cooked a ROM in your Kitchen for my XDA 1. Your Kitchen is great and I was able to customize the ROM fifor my needs.
I've got:
ROM version: 4.01.16 ENG
ROM Date: 2/4/04
Radio version: 6.18.00
This ROM is giving me all kinds of problems such as
XDA turns itself on every few minutes when the phone (radio) is on.
Sometime the SD card shows up as empty, othertimes it has the files?
Is there a more stable and functional ROM?
On my harddrive I've got the following ROMs as executables:
3.17
4.00
Official T-Mobile RUU2.07 v4.01.16
Which of these would you say is the best and can I use any of them
in your ROM Kitchen?
Don't know, which ROM Version is the best.
I'm using the 4.00.33 Version, but it's in German, so it isn't useful for you.
I never had much problems with this ROM, so it's the best for me.
Many people reports, that the best WM2003 ROM is the 4.01.12.
3.17.03 is surely one of the stablest ROMs, but it's still Pocket PC 2002 and not the new WM2003.
Stefan
Stefan
Thanks for your help. I am using WM2003.
I notice in your kitchen that ROM 4.01.12 is a version from O2 in the UK.
Will this work for me in the USA? If so, do I choose the No Autoconfig option? Is there anything else I need to adjust to make it work here?
Any other ROM versions to use in the USA?
Also, I cooked my current ROM using the WM2003 final verison in your kitchen. Is the device turning on every few mintues if the phone (radio)
is on, a known problem?
Thank you.

Newbie trying to work out which unlock option is best

Sorry for asking the same old question.. I have a Simlocked o2 XDAII and having read through the forums, I feel confident that there is a solution within the info, I just can't be sure that I have understood which is the best option. There seem to be several suggestions, some based on which radio version you have, some based on which ROM version and given that the version numbers dont run in sequence, I'm not sure I have found the latest?
If someone could guide me as to which is the best/safest unlocking suggestion for an O2 XDAII with the following, I'd hugely appreciate it.
ROM version 1.03.00 USA
ROM Date: 24Sept03
Radio version: 1.05.12
Protocol version: 1337.12
Software: PPC 2003 with Outlook 2002
