mini usb - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Accessories

silly question maybe, but is it possible to use a USB GPS mouse connected to the mini-USB port? to be used with TT5.

ibelieve that this has been asked before ("search" is very useful), and the hardware is capable, but WM5 is not, as it does not have the ability to be a USB host.

Convert ExtUSB to USB host?

Has anyone figured out if its possible to use the ExtUSB (sync) port as a USB host port? I'm guessing the communication lines could be controlled with software, but that you would have to use an externally powered USB hub (or devices that are externally powered) unless the +/- charge lines are 2-way.

I don'ty know the answer, but... what for? The X7500 has the cable to allow USB devices connect to the USB host... so? And for sure you will need a cable to convert mini USB to female regular USB... so is not a matter of money or carring a cable I guess.
Mostly techie curiosity. I figured since someone already figured out how to reroute internet sharing to make a wifi host, someone else must have looked at that normal-looking usb port and thought about making it work like a usb host. I'm a programmer but I don't have time to work on that...

unfortunatly the chip that does that feature is not capable of that.
if you look at the schematics of a root hub it has 1 main chip that is the hub controller, and slave chips for each of the ports. a device interface has a diffrent type of chip that's intended to be connected to a root hub connection port. thusly no software fix could be made too convert a port intended to be a connection point into a root hub port
mind you the 4-in 1 cabloe is cheap enough and i saw at least 1 site via google that had a usb port only cable for the sepcial connector
so is worth looking at that.
Hey - do you have the details of the company selling this 'usb only' cable?
Thanks for the input. Just curious if it could be done, I hadn't tried to look up the schematics. I second the request for the info on the usb-only cable, that would be perfect since they already gave us a vga cable...
Would this "USB cable" allow me to use a 149GB externally HDD caddy like I managed on my Dell x51v Axim's CF to USB slot, as the 4 in 1 cable isn't cutting it?
Thankz
There are lots of posts related to external HD and X7500... in general most of them (99'99%) don't work properly. In the webpages from HTC said that the 4-in-1 cable only admit mouse, keyboard and pen-drives.

[Q] usb keyboard

if by some chance i have aquired a usb mini-b male to usb a female adapter (i have) is there a way for me to use usb devices , ie a keyboard, mouse, webcam, etc? i know a webcam would be pushing it as there arent drivers but i believe android has usb keyboard support. anyone have a reason i shouldnt plug this in?
If you are like me and have insurance, I would try it. If it breaks it I would say that the phone just quit working.

[Q] Charging and USB OTG

Stupid question for anyone who might know. If I use the webtop over HDMI hack, and I use the USB OTG hack being discussed in the overclock thread (use a micro B to USB A adapter and a powered hub) would it charge the phone or not? I assume no but if not then I assume Motorola did something in their docks to allow this. Would it be possible to do this with a USB hub? I could open it and solder wires etc I just don't have an atrix yet to try it.
hum....looks like if I have pin 5 at 36.5 kOhms it will allow charging and host mode, but I may have to open the adapter, put the resistor, close adapter, open hub, solder the + and - wires from one of the slave ports to the master port to provide the 5v. Does that make sense to anyone? I am not an expert on USB (I am a solder tech and avionics tech though) but it sounds like it may work electrically.
Never mind I found my answer here:

[Q] Dual micro USB?

Hi together,
ive asked me if it is possible to use an adapter for 1x micro usb (plug) -> 2x micro usb (jack).
Could the phone handle 2 USB devices at the same time?
Maybe then it is possible to use the HDMI output and the USB host parallel?
For example to use an TV as screen and an HDD as the source for a movie.
This would be nice.
Thanks in advance.

When the connector is used for HDMI I doubt it can be used as USB at the same time, I'n sorry.
Maybe in a few months cyanogenmod provides a hack, if there will be an dual adapter soon.
We will see. Thank you.

The hardware needs to allow this if it'd become possible. You need a really smart USB dongle that knows how to split the HDMI output from the USB output.
Sounds a little too difficult to ever happen.
Hmm thats right. I think i still dream xD
But thank you.

it is not possible. because as stated on this forum many times before, the type of usb connection is determined by the resistor between pin 4 and 5 of the micro usb connector. the strength can tell the phone, that there is either a charger, a pc connection, car kit, jig, usb otg or mhl connection present.
and i believe, this is an important thing to keep in mind for so many things:
for instance, why the original car kit triggers car mode and generic car charging cables don't or why not just any micro usb male to usb a female will work as a otg cable or why flashing should be done with the original usb cable...
so if you were to buy or build a micro usb hub, since it has no resistor in the very plug that connects to the phone, it cannot be used for anything but charging and quite frankly, i wouldn't connect more than one charger to the phone.
however, if you want to use your phone for presentations or watching movies and still be able to use it, get a bluetooth keyboard and mouse or a bluetooth presenter or do it the other way around and use a usb input device and transfer your media using allshare. everything else is physically impossible, so neither CM nor XDA can do anything about it. the only device that can do what you want is the new motorola. it has a separate micro usb and micro hdmi port and a docking station, so you can use it as a full notebook.
Thats obvious. Thank you.

USB OTG

OK, after searhing a bit I couldn't find the answer I needed. Do our X10 M/MPs have USB OTG. I'm asking this because I want to connect a full size keyboard to my mimmi. I found a link that showed how to build an adapter but it was tested on a HTC I think. I tried to connect a usb stick to the phone through a female to female adapter but it wouldn't budge (also tried restarting & nothing). Any pointers are of great use.
USB On The Go? I donĀ“t know, read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1214494.html
I think i've seen an iPhone Bluetooth Keyboard, i think it`s compatible with our phones, i preffer wireless keyboards
