COOOOOL !!!!!
Thanks so much for posting it !!!!!
I can start it on the HTC TyTN and it really shows a lot of parameters.
(Not quite sure right now if the Nokia 6680 or now the Hermes shows more of them
Only...
Most of the params (except for the RSSI, i.e. the field level) show N/A.
That's why I assume that some Registry values have to be adjusted...
Could you pls confirm that you can see values for all (or at least) most of the values ?
Otherwise it's really phantastic that you are sharing this with us !!! Thanks again.

what exactly does this do?

field test
hi do you have more details on how to get it working? I only get -99 in the signal box and it does not seem to be getting all readings from the radio stack. are the registry tweaks needed?

Hi,
thanks again for sharing this application with us !
Help with some of the params much appreciated, but could you pls comment if you get values for all params on all screens ?
(Of course I do not mean those, which don't show up in idle but only active mode.)
In idle mode the complete BCCH params from the radio layer should show up. For me only RSSI (field level in dBm I hope) and RXqual show up, all other values are on N/A (not available).
If they do show up on your TyTN (you do have a TyTN, don't ya ?) I think we would have to kindly ask you to share also the "missing links" with us:
I'm afraid - as was with the Engineering Mode of the predecessor models - there need to be entered some secret Registry Keys.
Probably you know how to invoke the Fieldtest Mode and it would be great if you could finally also contribute this knowledge here. TIA

All parmeters should show. Only few are in Hex . I have a Hermes 100 Rom 1.24
I am in touch with some HTC engineers and will ask if registry should be tweaked which I doubt. Do not forget to go to file and click on start
needless to say that you need a UMTS/HSDPA coverage

Wow !
This would be great.
I am quite convinced that some registry modifications have to be done (or these are automatically set by a special firmware version).
But let me recall your mail:
You have got firmware 1.24 ???
This also seems to be the latest version, which apparently isn't yet released (all reports posted here mention 1.18.xxx.x).
I faintly remember that the Enineering mode application for the predecessor models (which showed up far less details than the one you posted) needed the firmware versions with the AKU2; but I might be mistaken with that.
Could anybody here btw verify if that is (was) true ?
My Device Info shows the following (I have the German localized version but that shouldn't influence proper operation of that application):
ROM: 1.18.257.2
ROM Date: 05/30/06
Radio: 1.03.03.10
Protocol: 32.34.7010.01H
And YES - both UMTS and HSDPA coverage is excellent here
I am curious if we would get this application to work here...
Regards
ghl10000
P.S.
I am none of these "firmware junkies" calling all the time for the "latest" firmware. But did you experience any improvements with the 1.24 ?
I couldn't think of big ones upfront that would make it worth while upgrading immediately though (with the predecessor models the AKU2 pack definitely was one, as I've been - and still am with the Hermes - using DirectPush heavily). Just curious.

nice find...!
Is there anyway my Wizard can be tweaked to use this fully... at the moment it gives me very limited info - or am i gonna have to buy a Hermes?
Also if possible could you provide details of all the menu/option/parameters please.
Thanks again
rob

fieldtest.exe working on wizard instead of test mode?

The GSM/UMTS/HS in Hermes is based on the Qualcomm chip 6280
This chip release many measurements and fieldtest.exe extracts and displays all the info from this chip
It is not the case with Wizard

Still no information on how to get this application working ???

eeter: does fieldtest.exe works on your device? On my TyTN it doesn't show much information, almost everything is N/A.
How do you know the Hermes has the MSM6280 chipset?
Do you have more information on hermes hardware?
Thanks!

It is either the 6275 or 6280.
Yesw it works fine. Everthing is in decimal execpt few values in Hex
I'll post a screen snapshot later unless you tell me how to capture a screen shot within Wizard/Hermes. I have ROM 1.24

Hi,
I think it would be of BIG help if you, eeter, could contribute an extract of various registry sections.
It is very likely that there are special (uncommunicated) registry keys inserted and set to special values, which then invoke display of the complete Fieldtest.
Problem is:
I cannot ask you to upload a complete dump of your registry because this would contain your IMEI, several user names and pass keys from you etc.
We wouldn't need all this (just extracts from special sections from the registry) and it also be undecent to even ask you.
pof, what do you think:
How could we assist eeter as much as possible to (automatically) dump only these sections of the registry, which are likely to contain these keys, but do not contain "sensitive" data from eeter's configuration ?
+++
Of course there's still the possibility that the fieldtest needs a special firmware version or special (additional) files or values .ini's.
To get this information would then be quite challenging if not next to impossible :-(

I have some doubts... as none of us has the fieldtest.exe in our roms, and he claims to have a 1.24 rom, most probably fieldtest is included in his rom release but not in ours, but I don't know wher did he get a device with that ROM and haven't seen anyone in the forums with any rom newer than 1.23 yet... :?
We have some possibilities:
1) "backporting" fieldtest.exe from eeter's 1.24 rom, we would need that
1.1) he dumps his imgfs with the instructions here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_HowtoDumpRom
1.2) we can extract the contents of the imgfs with the instructions here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_HowtoExtractImgfs
1.3) try importing (some or all of) these files (which fieldtest.exe is linked to) to our current rom:
COREDLL.dll, OLEAUT32.dll, commctrl.dll, AYGSHELL.dll, ril.dll
1.4) importing missing registry keys from his rom, he can always hard reset and export the full registry to not post sensitive data.
This will fail if the program has depenencys on the radio rom, as probably he has a newer one than us.
2) We can try that he dumps the full rom to microSD card, using bootloader and commands "d2s" or "r2sd" (don't know about which commands are available on the Hermes bootloader yet), then we can restore the rom from storage on our devices using "s2d".
Or... probably someone can enlighten us with a simplyier possibility I haven't thought of

i'm using Pocket Screen Capture (attached). after execution you have 5 seconds to reach screen which you want to capture, then it's saved in bmp format in device's \Temp folder.

i'd rather say it depends on some external libraries (.dll) which are not included (or are included but with limited functions) with standard ROM release.

Finally: New Tool - Cook your own (ext.) ROM for XDA2

Hi,
since my extended ROM is locked and I really wanted to customize my extended ROM (=collect the best from all available versions without the crap), I created a tool which is called ER2003Edit.
You can use this tool to:
- Display the header information
- Extract and modify the splash bitmaps
- Completely modify the contents (=extract, delete, import, rename) via
Drag'n'Drop
- Automatically calculate the checksum during save (thanks to Itsme for
finding out the details!!!)
What this tool can't do:
- Edit other ROM images than the extended ROM for the xda2
(support for editing the OS image may be added later)
- Modify the header information
(may be added later)
Just install and try....
Please not that this software hasn't undergone thorough testing, so
please be careful, use at your own risk! Only thing I can say for now
is that it worked for me!
Have fun!
Update: A new version has been released! Please have a look at the ER2003 wiki page for more information:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/ER2003Edit
Thank you so much.
It's easier than do with linux.

softwarkz: do you think that you program might work with the MDA II as well?
Is there someone who tried ER2003Edit with a MDA II ?
Thanks

MDA II is the same as XDA II.
Tested it, works.
Nice piece of software!
As already mentioned, you still need to change the header with xda2nbftool to use an O2 rom on a T-Mobile device and vice-versa.
I you mod the rom contents, I suppose it is best to also mod Config.txt?
don't know if I posted this before, but inspecting the fat filesystem at low level reveals that there are many other 'hidden' / deleted files stored in the extended rom, a wrote this perlscript : fatinfo.pl
to examine the contents of fatfilesystem image files. and optionally extrect the deleted files from it.

After a file is saved the program calls the xda2tools.dll to update the checksum. There are 2 reasons why this may fail:
1. xda2tools.dll was not registered by the setup.
Try: regsvr32 xda2tools.dll
2. One of the dependencies weren't installed correctly.
Please verify that both "msvcr70.dll" and "msvcp70.dll" were installed
to your Windows\System32 folder. During tests I noticed a problem
where the latter file was installed to C:\ instead of the system32
folder but I thought that was fixed...
PS: I really wonder that flashing worked without updating the checksum...
Please tell me if it works now. Did others have the same problem?

Yes you absolutely need to do this. Auto-generation of the config.txt would be nice, too. I currently just haven't got enough information if there is a certain order in which some of theses components need to be installed.

Some questions
Hi there,
I'm currently thinking about adding support for editing the NK.nbf as well. What do you think, would this be required?
What I personally would like to do is
to be able to change the keyboard layout - my current guess is that this depends on the file compime.dll
to be able to change the dictionaries for word completion to another language - haven't figured out yet where this is stored
What do you think?
I am running xp pro, downloaded and installed the program, when I run it the main screen for rom edit appears but nothing responds to clicks. Am I missing something? XDA2 is connected and activesync is running.

This software does not edit the "live" extended ROM on your device. It allows you to edit the ms_.nbf ROM image file that is included with the software upgrade tools.
To edit this file, start the upgrade program and wait until the files are extracted to the temp folder (like C:\Documents and Settings\username.DOMAIN\Local Settings\Temp\pftwxxxxx).
You use "File=>Open" to open the ms_.nbf found in this folder.

Another Himalaya WM2003SE ROM Package: 2.20.904

Updated 1-2-2006 22:25
Although I planned this almost a year ago, I finally migrated succesfully to WM2003SE. I decided to go for the only 'official' version: 2.20.07 as the main OS. Offcourse I used the WWE translated version by mamaich and buzz_lightyear.
The Ext_ROM is quite generic but does contain T-Mobile NL specific GPRS settings. There is NO T-Mobile skinning! And I love my self-made HTC Himalaya splash-screens 8)

Is there anyway to bypass the country ID error? When i try upgrading using your ROM, i always encounter this problem. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks edsub for the beautiful splash screen.
I updated the diamond version to this one. Problem was to keep al my installed programs intact, but using sprite backup and manually copying the storage everything was back as it used to be. The interesting point is, that the PDA gives the extended rom from diamond as being installed while the new ones are seen in the remove program utility
Neither can I find the help files other than in chinese (that means blocks on the screen) so it isn't quiet complete yet. As far as I can see the OS is more stable and a fractional faster. Any help to complete the make over
Next: after a cold reboot there seems to be no ext.rom installed at all (as far as the program tells), only after a restore it's back. Does it has anything to do with PersaveBackup?
This morning I migrated to WM2003se, I bypassed the Country ID following the procedure written by dcs.
All seems ok but I have noticed isn't anymore installed "Graffiti" that I usually use to write. Anyone knows where I can dowmload the program ?
Thanks
After some experiments I went back to the Diamond ROM because I had trouble with the phonesignal: no ringtones. And the pda hesitated a lot during routeplanner, problems with the mediaplayer, problems with the Ext. rom. I guess everything is to solve but it costs me a lot of time and most of all: I mist several phonecalls because i didn't hear the ring.
@henk-jan strange. there IS a ext rom in the package (ms_.nbf) should work as normal. one possibility: did you have the extrom unlocked when resetted the device? as the files are not readonly they are then deleted after 1st use.
ringtones & help are installed from extrom, so again same reason. as is performance while navigating.
I now have my wizard but 2.20 was way better than diamond
@Ed: I know there is a Ext.rom and it is shown in the explorer, but the device info doesn't show the Ext rom version
Going back to the diamond rom the same happens so it must be a problem in my Qtek2020.
Why do you consider V 2.20 (chinees) better then 2.06 (diamond)
Diamond was based of the 2.06 test ROM.
It was relatively stable, but also slow. And BT did not always work as expected (there was a patch for the hide&seek bt icon issue however)
2.20.07 is much faster, has all the BT support you need and has WMP10
But I must admit its also a matter of taste: I switched over when I had performance issues with 2.06. But those issues were there in 2.20 also (fixed by setting up cache for filesystem and the vulome priority hack)
About your ExtROM: The versio number is set by one of the cabs. In y rom that was the cab with the version number 2.20.904 in the name.
I cant imaging that did not run, but after all: all the issues you name can be caused by not installing from ExtROM in the first place.
I think the start program in the ext rom doesn't run. It is installed on the pda, but didn't run I guess.
Perhaps 2.06 is a bit slower but e registry hack and a speeding up utility solves that, but most of all: it works as it has to. I didn't get that with 2.20
So I take it for adventage. Thanks for your help.
Problem solved: playing with WM 5 and installing the DOC tool from Buzz_lighyear I changed the Ext rom and storage memory. Putting it back to the original state everything is OK now and the 2.20 is running smoothly on my PDA. Only frustrating to re-install all the programs one by one because sprite restores also the problems back.

We do it as good as we can, but you will find bugs. Report them and we will try to fix them in the next ROM or provide help. But we cannot take any responsibilities for it. If you damage your Charmer, do not be angry - you made something bad. We will never release anything that may damage the machine, we will never release something that is not working. It's just your fault - and it was your choice to try it.
Simply take what we provide or leave us alone. Or make your own ROM as you wish - we will be happy if you will find our rom to be good enough for your cooking.
HISTORY and FUTURE
We were not the first who released WM6 ROM for Charmer. chinese xBeta was the first. We are sorry that we cannot provide full credits of chinese stuff, but we do not understand even a word on their pages But our WWE rom was built primary on the chinese one. Vlodeck had enough patience that he started to translate CHS rom to WWE using Altavista Babelfish. We have discovered soon that it wasn't the right way.
Now, the ROM is working. Based partialy from Wizard, partialy on Prophet WM6 WWE roms, mixed up with chinese xBeta parts - it works. We have changed the main source ROM completely few times - that's why there are also major differences between versions. Different sources are bringing different problems. But we are strictly focused on performance and stability - on fast and stable ROM, you can easily build your own custom ROMs, filled with junk as you wish.
That's also reply for questions "will your rom include...blah blah" - no, it will never include any 3rd party product. We are not able to control every dll of sources, but we will try to keep this ROM maximaly clean and fast. Performance tweaks will be included, but only tweaks that may not harm any part of system. We will make everything possible to allow all 3rd party products work without restrictions - so no hardcore system tweaks.

[size=+2]VERSIONS[/size]
Just working stable versions will be listed. Some of them will never be released. Numbers will not be complete. Do not ask for missing numbers - those are devil numbers, ROMs that were not OK... You need at least bootloader ver. 2.xx to upgrade to WM6.
Latest ROM
004.4 - http://rapidshare.com/files/32708502/charmer_wm6_vlono_004.4.zip.html
Older versions
004.2 - http://rapidshare.com/files/32079043/charmer_wm6_vlono_004.2.zip.html
002.5 - http://rapidshare.com/files/32074387/charmer_wm6_vlono_002.5.zip.html
001.1 - http://rapidshare.com/files/32068816/charmer_wm6_vlono_001.1.zip.html
To upgrade rom just extract rar and run RUU. It would be nice if you had your charmer cid-unlocked but I think it will work on locked devices as well. This method does not work on Vista. If you have it, proceed with ANOTHER FLASH METHOD.

[size=+2]ADDONS[/size]
PhonePad SIP - http://rapidshare.com/files/32326885/Phone_Pad_-_International.CAB.html
Battery fix - enables USB charging:
1) download the fix from http://rapidshare.com/files/29790962/xBeta_XDADev_BatFix.CAB.html
2) at least soft reset your device (i have performed HR to have clean system for valid testing results)
3) install the patch - DO NOT MAKE SOFT RESET!!!
4) press and hold power button until message "Device will be off..." appears
5) tap OK to turn the device off
6) power on your charmer, it should work normally since this - at least mine does
mUn's keyboard - http://rapidshare.com/files/28801230/msim.96.dll.0409.mui
just copy it to /windows
Do it on your own risk! We take no responsibility in case you damage your device.
ANOTHER FLASH METHOD :
If you have the chinese WM6 rom, downgrade to some WM5 with official RUU, then:
download this:
http://rapidshare.com/files/29098553/ShellTool_bugfixed.zip.html
Once you unpack it, please put the nk.nbf (charmer wm6) into the Shelltool folder. Open shelltool.exe. Click Get Rom info, then click Extract OS. Wait until its finished and you'll receive a file called 8004000-OS.nb (save it for later).
Download the xbeta Chinese WM6 rom : http://rapidshare.com/files/27671349/2007-03-26_Charmer_WM6_CHS_OS_msyh__plus_consam_xBeta.exe.html
Extract it and put that 8004000.OS you saved before in the XBETA directory. In the itsutils folder of xbeta rom you will find enablerapi.cab and cert_spcs.cab. Copy them to your device, install them on Device Memory, then soft reset.
run xbeta.cmd and choose the 8004000OS.nb file to flash (you should be connected with AS and have your radio module turned off).
When the screen goes green and the flashing is finished make a HARD RESET!. Press Camera and Voice Dail buttons (hold them). Put and hold the stylus in reset button for 2 seconds. Release it. Wait until you see some white fonts on black screen. Then release those 2 buttons. Push the green dial button.

WWE - World Wide English. So no, this does not include german.
Sorry, i thought WWE means World Wide Edition...
I'm sorry.
nice work. tho a few things ive noticed, the buttons control panel contains settings to map 6 buttons (5 plus 1 to hold) when it should only contain 5 (4 plus 1 to hold) and the actual buttons on the phone, contacts and calender are set to start and ok, also are unmappable using the cpl. also youve left in the wireless lan cpl, when the charmer doesnt have wifi!
I know I have, what's the point in deleting wifi icons? More work and how is it supposed to make the rom better?

There's no way to change the mapping back to 'classic function' a.k.a calender=calender and so on?

you have to extract the nb file from the nbf and use for example awizard to flash the rom.
gosh.. Please send me additional info in a pm if you can.. I've never did that , and i'm afraid to do something wrong.

Hi there. Thanks for this much awaited update.
I had the same problem as madkoe.
Don't understand the above. How do you extract the nb file from the nbf. Could you please post more information on how to do this.
Thanks.
The first post now includes another flash method.

Yeah!!! Flashed and working great. Three Cheers vlodeck. Thank you very much.
Although, the T-mobile customisations that I used to get on hard resetting the previous ROM, they still start, and the keyboard still looks yukky, no colours, just plain white with black text, will try to change with the keyboard enhancement provided in the first thread.
Rest everything looks perfectly fine. Very excited to use this

It seems to me that you are missing some .MUI files for English. Even if you change the Regional Settings some functions remains in Chinese... But this is a good start. Keep it up. I do hope you decide to release your upcoming ROMs to our StarTrek Community here in XDA.
This looks amazing! Thanks for bringing WM 6.5 to the StarTrek!
it's only the nbh file ? how do i use this ? can i just replace the nbh in other rom installer ?
and new rom is always welcomed
it's been a while since the last rom update for our startrek....
wait.... what ?? 60mb free storage (and 68mb total storage) ??? is that even a startrek ? mine only have 18mb storage and 14mb free storage (wm 6.1)

Just place the .NBH file along with any RUU. It would be better if you could get the automated ones. You can use the one from my ROM. Just replace the .NBH file with the one provided here.
thanks... i can't wait to try it ... too bad, my psu is broken today so i can't use my pc >_<
any bug found so far ?
* Ok i've tried it on my dopod s300...
- T-Mobile Default home screen only give me a blank screen ...
- Windows Media Player still in chinese (can anyone show me how to update the library ?)
- And how to get the sliding panel like in the first pic ?
Hi!
WM6.5 on Star Trek looks amazing and feels like a respawn of that device. However i wanna wait til a clean english version is possible and out. Ill come back from time to time to check this. Please keep up your nice work!
Good luck and thanks much,
Future
Is the front screen functioning?
Does this ROM support the features & buttons on the front secondary screen?
I'd like to try it but if these features are missing, it'd be a deal breaker.
Update I:
Tried flashing this ROM using the MicroSD card method but got Invalid Certificate warning.
Should I use the RUU for StarTrek to get past this error?
How did the rest of you perform this ROM flashing?
The bootloader shows:
STAR100
IPL 1.32.0001
STAR100
SPL 1.32.0000
Update II:
I used Erofich's ROM update package & managed to flash this ROM successfully. I swopped the STARIMG.nbh from the temporary RUU unpacked folder for this (renamed STARIMG.nbh) ROM & it flashed it without problems. Now the phone is up & running.
See this thread.

OmapClock trick
Im using this rom and its actually pretty good. There are a few gripes where applications (specifically for me - Media Player & Comm Manager) are in Kanji or equivalent but all in all its fast and the updates to WinMo are good. I especially like the new standard Homescreen. The only thing I have problems with is that the bluetooth etc settings are in kanji... and this would be a problem for someone who doesnt have another WinMo handset to hand to understand what menu option controls what...
I have also found an interesting trick with Tornado Power Control using this rom that should be repeatable on any startrek rom...
My phone would run at 252mhz stable when I overclocked it using TPC & OmapClock - but at the 264 setting would lock up instantly and be useless until reboot...
TPC uses a remote procedure call called Power_on.lnk to clock the phone above its 228mhz limit using OmapClock - and this basically is a lnk file that calls Omap and sets its speed...
Now, here is the trick. I dont know why but the setting within omapclock and the setting using the link file is independant. Where a phone will lock up on a speed setting within Omapclock - it doesnt necessarily follow that the phone will do the same when the same setting is set from the *.lnk file.
What you need to do therefore is edit the *.lnk file clock setting incrementally until you reach the highest stable clock speed... ie make increments until you reach a speed where the phone locks up and needs rebooting - then back off one setting. I did this and then set the *.lnk file for TPC into my startup group which calls TPC which then calls power_on.lnk > omapclock at XXXmhz
Normally the Startrk runs at 180mhz which is fine for what the phone would have been used for in the days when it was introduced... but not so hot now when phones are used for things such as MP4 playback etc..
Using the method above I have managed to clock my handset to 263mhz at which point it is completely stable.
Using SKTools lite benchmarks....
@ 263Mhz
Integer : 142.6 Moves/25
Floating point : 3.485 MWIPS
@ 180Mhz
Integer : 102.6 Moves/25
Floating Point : 2.485 MWIPS
As you can see there is a substantial difference between the two. At the higher speed the handset is now able to run MP4s full screen in Media Player that are fully watchable - although there is some movement flare (I think this may be to do with the screen itself more than anything)...
The increase in processor speed also feeds into memory access times - and it would seem that in this case the Startrk is already a quick design - since overclocked its memory times are on a par with machines running 300mhz+ clockspeeds..
hi
I used tpc for overclocking startrek more than hundred times and never seen freezing , even in 263Mhz !!
maybe your device ( hardware ) or your rom had some problems .... ?
Anyone cooked a english one yet?
I've tried this one & it is great---but I want it all in english---If no-one has done it yet--could someone point me towards a tutorial/guide to do it?
Bump---any ideas anyone?

English ROM vs. HTC EzInput Traditional chinese (CHT=BoPoMoFo= ZhuYin)

Edit: Solved (mostly), see Post 9 below... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6208267&postcount=9
I am living in Taiwan and got my Touch2 here. With the WWE Europe version that I got flashed by the shop I bought it I have no means to enter Chinese characters. With the WWE Asia version that I flashed at least Pinyin input is supported.
But I am still trying to get BoPoMoFo (Zhuyin) support working...
I see that the traditional chinese ROM comes with this input method. Does anyone have any idea how to get HTC EzInput Traditional chinese working on any english ROM?
I already tried understanding the registry settings for EzInput, and found that the items that EzInput lets you chose are in this key:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\ezsip\SIPItemName]
"SIPItemName0D"="QWERTY"
I guess the item name would be "注音" (from the TWese manual)...
But at least with the setting
"SIPItemName0B"="Compact QWERTY"
it didn't work well... crashes when you select it. So I guess a bit more than just registry modifications are necessary... But I didn't even find any Traditional Chinese ROM for download, yet, so that I could examine
If this can not work at all, cab anone recommend any other (preferrably free) input method that accepts BoPoMoFo / ZhuYin?

Sorry for abbreviating "Taiwanese" to "TWese", I am just so used to that by now. I don't want to offend anyone, and was not aware that it is offensive. Unless you are offended by the name "Taiwan" as well... maybe I should say "traditional Chinese Manual"

Thanks for the info about the strange input methods, I will surely give it a try
By the way, if you want to remove those additional input methods in your Touch2, maybe try deleting the lines you don't need from [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\ezsip\SIPItemName]. This should make them disappear from the list.
Basically, I need the one that looks like the one in the lower right corner of this picture:
{

It's a funny (but very convenient) way to enter Chinese characters, and it's basically only used in Taiwan. I'm pretty bad at Chinese, but even for me it is easy to use. Maybe this is because it's meant for school children

Hmmm... after examining a Chinese ROM, I think that idea was wrong. The entry there is pretty similar:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\ezsip\SIPItemName]
"SIPItemName0D"="QWERTY 傳統鍵盤"
It seems like there are actually 2 things that EzInput offers:
1) Chinese Input using one of multiple methods
2) QWERTY
Only the latter can be changed with this registry stuff... the former probably is somewhere else. I didn't even find where the labels for these settngs are, not in the registry at least
Well, back to the drawing board... maybe try to extract the ezinput.dll and see if that stuff is hardcoded there?
I know I'm talking to myself but just in case anyone else is trying the same, I'm sharing some info here as I go along...
So I am using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=622054 as a reference for a working EzInput system that offers many ways to enter chinese, including my desired ZhuYin. Unfortunately it's only for VGA/WVGA, and makes Touch2 hang in boot screen, needing a hard reset.
Currently I am comparing the contents of this CAB with what is already on the device (WWE ASIA ROM), and it seems so far that at least some of the necessary files for ZhuYin are present.
So the next steps are verifying that everything needed is there, and then find out where to enable the selection of input methods.
If everything fails, maybe I can modify that VGA cab with the QVGA files from the WWE ASIA ROM, creating a QVGA version of that CAB... let's see
Last thing I did here is use a kitchen on both the WWE Asia and the CHT Hongkong ROMs, and I saw that the packages used are:
IME_CHS_2_1_19192731_00
and
IME_CHT_2_1_19192730_00
So my current idea is to simply (?) try to get the IME_CHT package in a cab form and install it. Or, if that doesn't work, try cooking a version of WWE Asia with the other IME instead of the original one.
Unfortunately the packages refer (in file and folder names) to 404 and 409, so I'm afraid some language parts might be incompatible. Well, I guess I gotta read some more on the topic of the meaning of those numbers, and how to use files from one language for another
Looks like I solved this problem for me
After comparing the CHT and CHS IME packages, it seems that the CHS includes all that is necessary for the ZhuYin input already. All graphics, dictionaries, etc. seem to be there, only the DLLs and some other files are different. This leads me to the assumption that ZhuYin could be activated without any file changes.
So I compared the registry settings of both packages (file: app.reg), and simply edited all differences on my device to reflect the CHT settings. And voila, if you write a new SMS, the input method is Zhuyin and it seems to work OK You can switch between English input (XT9 works OK) and ZhuYin as you want, and even after a restart its still working.
The only issue so far is that if you chose another input method (pinyin, stroke or handwriting), there is no way back to ZhuYin - only those three are selectable in the menu. So if you need no PinYin, then this is already the solution. I will try to also get ZhuYin selectable in the menu, then it would be perfect for me
Here are the registry settings, assuming that you have the WWE ASIA ROM already flashed:
Code:
1) Delete these 3 keys:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{F50603D1-CF2F-41D8-A74B-651226633FF0}
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{5AAFAF99-8D99-4466-A66D-95C44B608A84}
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E06C6B8-FE4D-4206-9A5B-6E4C1B8B6AD7}
2) in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\ezsip] change the following values:
"CurrentSIP"=dword:00000da4
"HWChineseMode"=dword:00000001
3) in [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Keytouch\Multiplay] change the following values:
"nSelectedIme"=dword:00000003
"DefaultIME"="ZY"
I guess not all of that is necessary, maybe I will edit out later the unnecessary stuff. So far I'm happy that I can play with ZhuZin finally
Thank You For The Effort
I'm having a US T-mobile HTC HD2 official ROM and is looking a method to input zhuyin without changing the ROM (or at least stay within US versions). Do you know if I can just get the necessary files from an Asia ROM and perform the same registry edit you did?

I don't think he was offended by "Taiwanese" nor "Taiwan". I think people just not sure what TWese is. Further, "Taiwanese" or "Taiwan" cannot be offensive as it is simply an identification. Would one stop identifying oneself as human if it is offensive to others?
(NOTE: referring to the Japanese during WW2 as the public opinions in US tend to take the Japanese somewhat less human)

I'm having a US T-mobile HTC HD2 official ROM and is looking a method to input zhuyin without changing the ROM (or at least stay within US versions). Do you know if I can just get the necessary files from an Asia ROM and perform the same registry edit you did?

No idea, sorry... did you check already if those files (for whatever reason) maybe are in the ROM?
