VoiceDialing Software Help Challenge - HTC Startrek

I purchased the full version of the VoiceDialing software for my MPx220 and it's simply the best voice dialing software I've ever used. NO training, it phoenetically (sp?) sounds out the names when you say them and it's nearly 100% perfect every time.
I purchased my 3125 today. I have 198 Contacts and each has at least two phone numbers.
I tried installing the MPx220 (Voice Signal Technologies V2.0) on the 3125, and it installed and rebooted the phone. Unfortunately it doesn't work. I would be willing to pay someone to help me port this application to WM5. I am not technical enough to figure it out on my own.
I've spoken to the company that wrote the software, they have no interest in helping. Here is the .zip file. If you are interested in helping I will provide you with the Product key.

GSM Positioning via cell sites

Hello all,
I have been reading the different boards and there was a very interesting discussion taking place in the "developers corner". Apparrently, they have found a way to put a call into the radio stack of the xda and have it return values which correspond to cell site position ( both the cell site identifiers and their approximate distance from it).
I was wondering if this means that we may find ourselves with an application that can give us positioning?
Thanks for your help.

Gene,
Yeah, I'm interested in that as well but having a few issues. A lot of the samples of getting the Cell ID are in C/C++, pre-compiled apps, or from the bootloader. Seeing as I'm not C savvy, I'm having a tough time trying to get it to work in eVB [Not that I have much time anyway at the moment].
I read ages ago, on the sourceo2 newsgroups, that O2 [UK] won't release the information on Cell locations. Well, they will but only subsets and only for a price. I then noticed that a mate of mine recently got a camera phone Nokia 7xxx or something. Anyway, he had this Java proggy that told him the ID of the Cell and Area he was in. It got me thinking of writing my own app for the XDA.
His proggy was pretty cool actually. It allows the user to set up events depending on when you are entering or leaving a cell. One use of it, is to automatically switch the phone to silent when entering the area of a cinema. Or as he put it, welcoming you home, when you get to a cell near your house. The mad thing
Basically I was thinking or writing an App initially with two functions. The first would be that it can recognise the Cell ID and allow you to input the general location of where you are. As the Cell ID changes, the app would prompt for a new location description.
The second function would be to display your location if it is already in the database.
The idea would be that I would make it freely available and have a central place wheer users can upload their databases to be merged together and made available to others.
I was also thinking that it might be a little ambitious as I don't think that there are a hell of a lot of users out there with the proper hardware and the will to comit to this project. Thereby, the location information would be limited but I might do it anyway, if I can sort out the reading of the Cell ID. Just a little pet project I wanted to do for teh past month or two.
If anyone can help witha bit of eVB code for reading the Cell ID, I'd be much obliged.

More bad nes for Dopod Users...(Definatly no AKU3.3 ROM)

Well, after the last email i sent to dopod about a newer firmware i posted here, i sent another one, as theres obviously AKU3.3 updates from HTC themselves.
Dear Michael,
The 838pro ROM code is AKU2.3
I checked our schedule again for you and nothing has changed since your last email . There would not be any new ROM update in future for the Dopod 838 Pro.
If you want an updated unit, we suggest buying the newer Dopod 810. I appreciate that the Dopod 838 Pro is our current top PDA, however, we feel no update is needed. If your not happy with not having WPA2, i suggest more care in selecting a PDA next time.
Thanks.
Kind regards,

Be rest assured, the "CARE" i take next time, will be NEVER to buy, or recommend a Dopod to anyone ever again. Considering they are trying very hard to break into the Australian market, they've done an appaling job at winning customers with crap service like this.
And no offence but its clear they don't care and are employing monkeys with there "engirsh"
8one pissed off Dopod owner8
Gosh That's really bad news...
I will also Inform and Definately NOT recommend to any of me friends/forums on DoPoD Devices (YuCK!)
or you can politely make it known to them that we've a aku 3.3 update for hermes here so they can just put a note in their future sales boxes to inform customers to come here to update a software that they are too lazy to do
:LooooooooooooooooooooL: m8!!
They surely are lazy!
that is fu**n s**t of Dopod as im using a Dopod 838 Pro.... as i stuffed by radio when trying to unlock the CID im now stuck to Dopod... might just have to go and buy the IMEI-CHECK unlocker....
Ahh wells.. At least they are the OEM distributor for HTC. We still can get nice updates.
Thats the bit about it all i don't understand.
HTC own Dopod now. There supposed to be HTC's break into Asia pacific etc.
Even though HTC release newer, needed ROM's, dopod's answer to that is essentially "Go F**k yourself, we want more money from you, so to upgrade buy another PDA"
Rest assured, when i buy a new PDA, especially in Oz, it won't ever be a Dopod thats for sure.
If your not happy with not having WPA2, i suggest more care in selecting a PDA next time.

Someone interacting with customers and talking like that will soon find out that this can be "career limiting experience".
What is the email for the support or the person you contacted?
I reckon if enough of us ask about it they might respond
Cheers
If they're owned by HTC, I'd forward that onto them. It is not good customer service to respond like that. A
nyway the problem is that when you are buying a device finding information in that much detail is very hard and it is completely capable of WPA2 and you would assume a market leading device would be capable of that.

I've fowarded onto HTC. Lets see what they have to say about how there new retail arm treats HTC's new market and potential customers.
Seriously, i can handle them not doing an update (although that in itself is poor customer after sales support, basically buy the unit then we don't give a f**k about you) but the complete lack of respect for me and their own company pisses me off.
Oh well, how ever much i actually love the device, another dopod product will never grace my hands again, thats for sure.
yeah, dopod service sucks in this part of the world. you should pray that the device has no issue. i have a loose stylus issue and would rather not send it in for servicing

what a tool!
Some people really dont understand how to treat their customers. There are hundreds of better ways he could have gotten his point accross without being rude, and contradicting himself.
Hi, first post here.
I have owned numerous PDA's over the last 5yrs or so and cannot remember any of them getting an upgrade for the firmware. There have been various updates to fix minor bugs but usually if you wanted a newer OS then you replaced the PDA. HTC and Dopod arent doing anything different than any other manufacturer. I dont like it either but can see that if they released a new OS for the product then no-one would buy the newest kit.
It stinks but thats how it is
Umm, clearly you are very mistaken.
PDA's have had continuos updates for bug fixes etc for a long time. The Hermes has bugs that need to be resolved.
AKU3.3 is NOT a new OS. Its WIN CE 5 still, just with latest patches. Nearly all other manufacturers release updates. I don't care what happened 5 years ago, then industry and its problems then are nothing like they are today.
Its perfectly acceptable to expect a third party producer of a product, that the main manufacturer has released updates for, to get of their own lazy arses and customise that update for them.
What your saying, is its perfectly fine to release unfinished, bug ridden hardware/software and then the consumer should just pay for a whole new unit on a hope that that one isn't as bad.
Or, would you expect a simple update that they have to do very little work to customise to be released when its spoon fed to them.
Tell you what, buy a car from me, i won't include wheels with it. Everythign will work, but it will be usesless to you. You'd expect me to supply some simple wheels, but i will palm you off with bad service, **** english and tell you you should buy the newer, better car as that has wheels.
Um, clearly in my post i stated:
There have been various updates to fix minor bugs but usually if you wanted a newer OS then you replaced the PDA. If this is a MINOR update then I stand to be corrected.
You can keep your car by the way
No its not minor, its probably in the same capacity as SP2 was for XP.
However, nonetheless, it is an update thats needed to make the devices function as they are supposed to.
The update has been released by HTC to carriers. Dopod, are simply to tight and lazy to do anything, and beleive it acceptable to shaft its customers, rather than what some of the better carriers are doing (HTC direct, AT&T etc) and releasing an update thats much needed.
Im not asking for them to update to Crossbow for free. Im asking them to release a standard upgrade, to help their device they released to function properly.
you just got the standard Customer Support bugger-off-with-with-new-rom-inquiries reply, it's not up to him to know whether it will be available or not..

Has anyone registered their Hermes @HTC.COM?

As I have a T-Mobile branded device I cannot register it (S/N not recognized) so I wonder what software updates are available in the restricted area for Hermes? Are there any new ROMs? Patches? Thanks!
P.S. If someone could upload the contents to some hosting service it would be great. I'm afraid to ask for a serial number of a genuine TyTN device however if anyone feels like sharing why not
No Updates ....
bye
I have the same problem. I have a Cingular 8525.
I have a Cingular 8525 and it let me register it.. just enter the Serial # from behind the battery ..
EDIT: Woops, I guess it didn't let me.. lol .. I swear it said 'Thank you for registering your phone' or something like that
Madcap, calm down...You cannot register your 8525 from cingular for a TyTn, but here is a link to download the official version....
http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/ht...tc-europe-wm6-rom-upgrade-available-here.html
Yeah I have that one installed already.. I guess I will wait for the Cingular version.. should I hold my breath? lol
If you're in America...make sure you've got the right website.
Not sure if this will help. And I'll start with a disclaimer that I'm just starting to delve into this site so it's very possible I have no clue what I'm talking about .....
That being said, two weeks ago I received a warranty replacement for mine. I went to the HTC website (www.htc.com) and followed the links for registering my device so I could see if they had WM6 there before I started pulling variants from here (tried three so far...still going to check out others). It wouldn't let me enter my S/N. Kept telling me it wasn't a valid number. So I called (America number) to see if there was a problem with the site. I received a call back within 24 hours stating others were calling about the same thing and that she would check on it. She also said that in the meantime I should make sure if I was in America that I was using the site specifically for us, http://america.htc.com. Went there and no problem. A disclaimer on their main site would have been helpful. Hope this may help you.

Cingular 8525 - vp3g's ROM
"The more I learn, the more I learn how much I have to learn!"
Madcap, I think cingular will have all that cingular media crap on it. Then one of the cooks will tweak it and make it better, plus we will not have to downgrade out ipl,spl
well, I think it's also going to have the 'video share' option as well as PTT will be functional.. and stuff like that.. along with all the Cingular 'please let us milk your wallet' media stuff..
I guess if you use the PTT function, I had it and could not find anybody to PPT with....What is video share? I know that theTyTn has the Video call....
My bad...
Video Share allows one of the participants in a voice call to send live video of what they are looking at to the other participant. Like PTT, you have to have the same phone or carrier..Cingular
Video Share is just like Video Call I guess.. if you go to cingular's website there is a interactive tutorial on videosharing.. I heard the 8525 will be compatible eventually, but our cameras are on the back..
just read a bunch on it. video sharing will cost a bit more and it is almost the same as a video mms. Maybe that is why we see 600 now as the limit for mms. "Video Share allows one of the participants in a voice call to send live video of what they are looking at to the other participant." Like sign me up and find someone that also has signed up......When I had PTT i could not find one person to talk with.
I have 3 people to talk with on PTT.. It's mainly for my drunken amusement.. lol.. when I am drunk at 3 I have a tendency to drunkPTT people.. as opposed to Drunk dialing.. because if they are available, they can hear me, and can't ignore my call ..lol..
Yep, Just think what you can do with Video calls......Show who you came out with at 2am........
lol.. That might not be a good thing for me.. The beer goggles get me everytime.

Recording calls with XV6800

Hi all,
So I've been searching everywhere for information on recording calls with the XV6800. In my line of work I frequently have need to record conference calls for reference. In all cases all parties are aware (even though most states don't require that all parties be aware.) I currently have external hardware to do this, so it's not like I'm being restricted from doing it at all, I just really want to be able to use my phone to do it when I go on site. Taking my phone only is much better than taking my phone and a cord and a recorder. It's a small hassle, but it's all the more annoying because it doesn't have to be. Apparently, some idiot along the way decided they were going to impose what they thought people should be allowed to record rather than what the law allows and the result is, that from all my searching on the net, it seems that the XV6800 can't record because someone somewhere might violate a law from one of the few states that have laws against recording without all parties' knowledge. No software solutions seem to work at this point (although in my mind, if you go deep enough into the system, you should be able to use a software solution. I mean the sound data exists in there.) However it occurs to me that this may be something that can be fixed with a ROM flash. Does anyone at all have any information on this. One of my colleagues uses a Treo and he is literally able to record our calls right from his palm. It must be possible to the same with the XV6800 somehow. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hopefully someone with "BT stack" knowledge might be able to help with this. In theory the Bluetooth stack could be modified to reroute the earpiece audio channel so that it could be captured. I know at some point DCD and No2Chem did something with changing some of the BT audio properties, but I don't know if they actually got into the guts of the BT Stack itself or not.
To get more background knowledge on audio recording problems with some HTC devices, you can do a search for threads written by the moderator Menneisyys who wrote several well written, in-depth articles on this HTC limitation about a year ago.
Did you try Resco Audio Recorder? I'm not sure if it records both sides of a call as that may be a carrier limitation.
http://resco.net/pocketpc/audiorecorder/indepth.asp#phonecall
I have. Actually, I've tried pretty much every piece of software available out there already as this is something I do often enough that I really would like this feature. I think nothing that existst now is up to the task and it is going to take someone with serious skills to do some creative programming to get it to work. Did they really program in a hardware block just because some states require two-party consent? I mean that's just the dumbest thing ever.
To jamesjay: Thanks, I will go check those out and see what they have to say.
I would love to have this also. I'm starting up an insurance company and it'd be awesome to have a cheap way to record every conversation. Even if I have to have some type of bluetooth thing to intercept the conversation.
splice into the audio cable and rerout to recording device
Well I have a physical device already and it works just fine. I can record calls if I bring along an extra wire and my recorder, but I don't want to have to do that. I should be able to have a software solution, and I'm actually pretty annoyed with the company for purposefully blocking that ability.

Crodney - I suspect they wanted to avoid ANY possible lawsuits.... Recording outgoing conversations without the callees consent is taboo in most states.... But I agree - there has to be a workaround.... Like a .dll that can intercept the audio and split it so you can record it AND listen and talk.....
here's a roundup of the legality of call recording...most of whats in this thread currently is misleading or false:
http://www.callcorder.com/phone-recording-law-america.htm#Evidentiary Issues
Search for a program called LivePVR. I'm at the bar and posting from my Titan, so I don't have the link. It should do the trick.
Laws regarding recording phone conversations can vary from locality to locality. I know that here, it is legal as long as ONE party knows that they are being recorded.
Only solution I found
When I first go to Telus I asked specificaly to have the possibility to record voice calls, as I oftenly get on conference calls while on the road with no possibility to take notes and I have to write meetings minutes concerning really technical matters.
So they recomend me the P4000, and after 3 weeks of searching, they told me it's too late to change phone now (more than 14 days), so I bougth my self a new Palm Tréo 755p and with CallRec it's like a walk in the park.
I had to pay it my self, as I had the authorization from my company to buy the P4000, but it wasn't delivering what it was supposed to.
So now I'm stuck with a brand new P4000, that nobody wants to buy!
Love Telus

Anyone Interested in a "NIKI100 20Key" or for spare parts or for Developing?

Anyone Interested in a "NIKI100 20Key" or for spare parts or for Developing?
I have a HTC Touch Dual 20 Key (NIKI100) that would be great for a ROM chef or developers to toy with or as spare parts.
I have the original box and accessories as well as a desktop cradle that I will package everything in. It is in working and flashable condition other than the one noted problem below. Bluetooth, camera, audio, buttons all work, just the audio bug which I believe is hardware based.
The device works great other than a call problem that is hardware related.
Detail on Problem: When in a call randomly the listener on the other end will hear a buzzing or humming sound and not the caller, but everything sounds normal on the device. To fix it while in a call you have to open and close the screen a couple of times. I beleive its a loose part in the screen.
Physical Condition: There is some minor wear and tear to the device and a small chip/indentation on the front of the bezel from handling over the last year but the screen is in a near mint condition because it has always had a screen protector. Other than the noted call problem, the device works great and I have flashed many ROMs to this device and it currently has a Lily Rom on it. It is not in a bricked condition and is ready for someone to play around with it or use it for spare parts like a screen or keyboard change.
How Much?
I will let the device go for $75 to the first person to post their interest in the device. This is not a bid, so the first interested person gets it, I just want to get it off my hands. I will include free shipping within the United States with all the accessories, box and liturature. For xda's outside the United States shipping will be additional and I will have to figure that out seperately. I will send a Paypal invoice to the specified email address and payment can be made that way for security reasons.

What about me?
I have unfortunately moved on from windows mobile until WM7. I am currently on the Android platform for now, but you can find me in the Dream forum on xda if you want to find me.
Feel free to ask any questions if you are unsure.
Thanks,

Doesn't look like a bad idea to me, though dzo would be the first to ask wether he needs it... (he's gotta have already too many qualcomm based htc phones
