Upgraded ROM to 1.34 & lost T-mob quick launch buttons - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hi,
I just got my new T-Mobile MDA Vario II this morning and the first thing I did was upgrade the Rom from T-Mob 1.21.110.3 to Cing 1.34.502.1.
The main thing I noticed was that I lost my 'Quick Launch' buttons from the 'Today' desktop page i.e. Contacts, Organiser, Web&Walk etc.
How can I get them back?
Thanks,
Mark

operator customizations go in extrom, search te wiki for t-mob extrom and try to find which cab file contains what you want, then install it.

Thankyou very much
It was in CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_HER_TMUK-UXC_12JUN06.CAB

o2 ROM Upgrade to 1.60.52 GER with own ExtROM (step-by-step)

Hi Folks,
o2 Germany has now published an upgrade to ROM version 1.60.52 GER.
http://hilfe.o2online.de/srvs/DATA/...download/xda_software/neu/xda_16052ger_o2.exe
THIS VERSION IS GERMAN ONLY (ALTHOUGH INSTALLER IS IN ENGLISH), SO ONLY UPGRADE WHEN YOU HAVE A GOOD COMMAND OF THE GERMAN LANGUAGE OR INTEND TO STUDY ANOTHER FOREIGN LANGUAGE!
o2 kept us waiting for a long time, but it looks like it was worth waiting and some old problems (like HZ-Indicator; Bluetooth etc.) have been fixed (at least they tried to!).
Have fun, any comments on the new version are highly appreciated!
bobpopo
Hi!
when i extract extended ROM image file, it can't be accesed by ROM editor from Wiki.. what's wrong?
now that we have thsi update, the question is: do we get a wm2k3se update and if so, when?
Um... is the language in german, or in english, or can it be switched to english?
First Upgrade leads to "Country Error" - Downgrade
After reading some postings in a German forum I already knew about the problem for those using XDAII with T-Mobile ROM 1.60.00 GER:
The update program won't start, displaying "Country error" (or sth. like that). This problem is solved by downgrading to T-Mobile 1.03.00 (which can be downloaded on the same page as the upgrade). After that upgrade works fine, leading to:
ROM-Version: 1.60.00GER
ROM-Date: 12/03/03
Radio-Stack: 1.10.00
Protokoll-Vers: 1337.18
ExtROM-Vers: 1.60.52 (attached)
Compared to the German T-Mobile 1.60 ROM, the radio stack seems to be improved (from 1.06.01 to 1.10.00) and the o2 ExtROm was updated (from 1.03.27 to 1.60.52). Also some good news for the o2 subscribers in Germany using the XDAII: The Homezone control seems to be fixed -until now I did not spot any problems.
Enjoy (and report bugs)...
HI Is this safe to use on the UK XDA II?
Should I wait until the uk release?
The only thing that I am waiting for mainly is a Bluetooth handsfree profile.
@oliven_99
How's your german... 'cause this is a true german update ;-)
links für downgrade pls
"The update program won't start, displaying "Country error" (or sth. like that). This problem is solved by downgrading to T-Mobile 1.03.00 (which can be downloaded on the same page as the upgrade). After that upgrade works fine "
Where can we download T-Mobile 1.03.00
Pls post the link for the german T-Mobile 1.03.00 downgrade because I also got the Country Error!
http://www.t-mobile.de/downloads/company/t-mobile/mda_2_ver_10305.zip
But remember: Downgrade and Upgrade is in German!
It works
Many Thanks!
Does anyone knoews why the ext. ROM Version 1.60.52 GER can not be opened, edited with Windows Mobile 2003 ROM Editor from Wiki?
Homezone Indicator
Cool!!!
The homezone indicator seems now to work stable!
Well done, O2 Germany
CAUTION!!!
Today I got shocked when I tried to modify the ExtROM and almost ruined it. After the common way with ER2003edit did not work out, I tried to downgrade the ExtROM to 1.03.05 (T-Mobile) with the old HimaUpgradeUt that came with that version.
After doing that, the XDA did not work anymore, just showing "serial USB 1.1". After that I tried to flash my cooked ExtROM (merger out of the latest ExtROM and some other cabs), what left my XDA still without function. Then slowly panic arose and I flashed the latest, complete upgrade (1.60.52) again, what led to a standard & working XDAII.
Now I am happy that I did not ruin the device, but still looking for a way to modify the ExtROM. Maybe it is time for those who really know what they are doing to give a little hint to the masses, how this can be solved...
INSTRUCTIONS: Homecooked (locked) ExtROM with o2 GER 1.60.52
Okay, finally I figured out, how to flash the new version with my own ExtROM:
If you are upgrading your XDAII from the MDAII 1.60 ROM, please prepare your XDAII for flashing by downgrading to MDAII 1.03 ROM as explained above. Otherwise you will get a country error.
1. download xda_16052ger_o2.exe from o2 Germany
http://hilfe.o2online.de/srvs/DATA/...download/xda_software/neu/xda_16052ger_o2.exe
2. download ER2003Edit
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/ER2003Edit
3. download tool Decode extended ROM below (thanks Jos!)
4. use WinRAR to extract the upgrade files from xda_16052ger_o2.exe (you'll get six files: 3 Hima* and 3 *.nbf)
5. unzip files from Decode extended ROM to a separate folder and add ms_.nbf (from step 4) and run decode.bat
6. after decoding, you can open the file ms_.nbf with ER2003Edit, modify the ExtROM-Files and splash images.
7. after modifying, save and run encode.bat, but only perform the encoding step, afterwards copy ms_.nbf back to the files extracted in step 4
8. now start HimaUpgradeUt.exe and flash XDAII as usual, but with your individual ExtROM
(According O2 this step can take up to 1 1/2 hours!)
This upgrade worked out with my German XDAII with (locked) ExtROM. In former versions of the upgrade utility it was possible, to upgrade the ExtROM only, one just had to remove the unwanted *.nbf before upgrading. But now it looks like only a full upgrade will lead to a working XDAII. Otherwise it will be dead but can be recoverd by giving a full upgrade with all three parts.
I will certainly only be held liable for ruining my own XDAII - what you do to your gemstone is on your own risk. There might be easier ways, please drop a note if you find one...
New splash screen...
Just to make it complete:
While installing the new ROM I noticed that there is a second splash image, which is changed to the old one after executing O2DECustomize.sa.CAB. As I liked that new splash screen better, I have changed it within the cab file and removed some other useless example files.
Just replace the old O2DECustomize.sa.CAB in your ExtROM with the one below or copy to and execute on your XDAII to change splash screen (will stay until the next hardreset).
The RSB-Converter is just a tool that I found while waiting for ages to get a trial key for ACDSee. Take this tool if you want to convert your individual splash screeen to the required RSB format. Find further information on creating individual splash screen here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3759&highlight=splash1+nb
After creating your favorite splash image (as *.bmp, 24 bit) cut 13 pixel from the left side of the picture and paste it to the right side (after moving the big part to the left). If you don't do that your splash won't fit the screen properly.
Hi all
For those how what to save close to 2MB space in their ext-rom I have a set of updated files
O2_DE_custimized has additional the settings made in
Broadcast_GER
MIDI_GER_reg
O2_AP_DE_20040118
O2_DE
version_AKU1 which you don't need anymore.
removed is O2 movie, spash images, and O2 ringtone
additonal the regfile makes the ext-rom visible and activates cleartype by default.
CameraRD132_GER removed help file and button graphic
ClearVue233_GER removed ads/demo files
regards, Alex
At the german forum "ppc-welt-community" a user reported, that he tried the update with his xda1 an the upgrate worked.
I doubt about this...what do you mean? Should it be possible to upgrade the xda1?
:?
Hey, I found the entry in the forum, there is no way written that somebody actually manged it or was so stupid to try it.
I think it won't even start, as the bootloader are not the same and the UpgradeUtility will (hopefully) not start at all.
There is an upgrade to WindwosMobile2003 for XDAI this is what he writes about, this is not the upgrade which is here talked about.

TyTN Cing. ExtRom question

Does anyone know if migrating the Cingular Ext.Rom from 8125 to TyTN will work?
Most probably it will, but you will lose cingular customizations.
If you don't like it, you can always go back to cingular.
Pof,
Thanks for your answer but you might have misunderstood, I wasnt looking at leaving Cingular, just transfering my existing Cingular extRom to my new TyTN so I can keep use their customization on my new phone.
Thanks
AJH
Oh sorry, I didn't read abut the 8125... which HTC device is it? if it's a wm5 you can just get the cingular settings CAB from the extROM and run it on your TyTN.
I got my vodafone spain settings from a cab in Universal ExtROM without problems
im also trying to do this. could someone point me to where the cingular ext rom is and how i would go about applying it to the tytn>
Thanks pof,
Its an HTC TyTN. I just got it in the mail at home and want to be sure I understand as much as possible when I move my programs and customizations over from my 8125.
Blues,
I havent done it either, I was going to use the instructions from the wiki (hytn and 8125) on removing and installing the ext.rom.
I will let you know, probably tomorrow since I have to charge the device first.
Thanks
AJH
ok, cingular 8125 == htc Wizard. Right?
You can extract the cingular customizations from the ExtRom:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Extended_Roms/cingular-ExtROM.zip
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Extended_Roms/Cingular_8125_108-ExtRom.rar
Since it is a WM5, there should be no problem on installing the needed CABs on the TyTN, you just have to know which ones have the operator settings, do not install the rest of the cabs found on the ExtROM.
Hope that helps
pof you the man.
Thanks a lot.
AJH
Guys...let me know if you get this to work. I wasn't able to get the E icon for edge to work after copying the Cingular Edge .cab files over. It continues to show G for GPRS.

From the Hermes Frequently Asked Questions:
"The reg tweak working for the previous models to show the [E] instead of [G] when you are on the EDGE network is not working on the Hermes "

thanks..should have searched first for this but now I know.

English Cingular 8525 ROM update available: v1.30 radio 1.11

Here is a new rom from the still unreleased Cingular 8525: HTC Hermes (HERM100) branded from U.S. Operator Cingular.
ROM Version: 1.30.502.1
ROM Date: 08/21/06
Radio: 1.11.00.00
Protocol: 32.47.7018.00H
As always, download link on the wiki upgrading page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
If you have questions be sure to read the Hermes wiki first, specially the Upgrading FAQs.
Notes on this ROM:
* Cingular 8525 doesn't have front camera, you'll need to install cab files from other ExtROM to enable video calling (I used TyTN ExtROM on mine).
* Left button is mapped to push-to-talk application still unavailable on the rom, so it is unuseful. You can map it to any other APP using 3rd party software to remap hardware buttons.
Enjoy
if i upgrade to the cingular 8525 rom, will my tytn still be unlocked? or will it be locked to cingular?
It will still be unlocked. The network lock doesn't depend on the rom you're using.
Guys
Any ideas as to who/what website released this ROM?

OS 5.1.195 (Build 14955.2.3.0), so it's AKU 2.3 as all the other available ROMs until now.
i just installed the cingular 8525 rom! and now U CANT DO A LOCK IN ON GSM OR WCDMA MODE! (that menu been removed!)
i going back to the Imate rom!
Trying it now, thanks for the link! It also seems that the MMS limit is increased to 600K!

I am on the cingular rom, and my menu exists. Go to:
Settings -> Personal -> Phone -> Band -> Select your network type. The options are Auto, GSM and WCDMA.
If you don't have it by default probably it's on the ExtROM, as I said I installed the ExtROM from TyTN, try it.

Any comments as to the stability of this ROM on a TyTN?
Do we know what the different files in the EXT_ROM are for?

1) hard reset
2) do the usual alignment stuff, copy-paste, etc...
3) soft-reset before it starts installing the cingular ExtROM (customizations), you have 3 seconds
4) Unhide your extrom (you can also use fit4cat hermes tweaker for this)
5) Extract the contents of TyTN ExtROM to a folder in your miniSD card.
6) click on the CABs files you want to install, this is what I installed on mine:
From TyTN's ExtROM (on SD):
MT_Shortcut-MMS-Hermes.CAB
MP_mHub_060630.CAB
MT_PC_Hermes_Qtek_WWE_060621.CAB
P_Generic_UI.CAB
PP_3-AP-Patch.CAB
PP_ace-certs.CAB
VT_Engine_23818_ext.CAB
From Cingular's ExtROM (unhided):
MT_Shortcut-MMS-Hermes.CAB
T_mm1lib_DLL.CAB
MMS disapeared and I had to install the CAB 3 times, i used both from TyTN and from Cingular, then setup a default account settings and sent an MMS and received another (I sent it to myself from another mobile phone) and after that it stayed and no more problems with MMS.
I also installed the TyTN green theme (.tsk) because I like how it looks
Hope that helps.
Does the Cingular ROM or EXT_ROM contain the Cyberon VoiceDialer?
(I hope not!)
Yes, it's on the ROM but it's not mapped to any hardware button.
interesting.. BAND selection tab (GSM/UMTS/AUTO) is present in the ROM if Cingular extended ROM is not installed. it is being removed during Extended ROM installation procedure. more over, none of this Cingular CAB files are responsible for removing BAND selection (GSM/UMTS/AUTO) tab.
I have skipped Extened ROM installation, verified that BAND selection (GSM/UMTS/AUTO) band selector is still present and then installed all Cingular extended ROM cab files one by one. supprisingly enough - band selector is still there. there must be some other invisible configuration file in the extended rom. gprs connection is not auto configured either.
@superduper: probably you need to soft reset for the changes made by cab files to take effect. If you want to know which cab file disables it you have to install one, soft-reset, install another one, soft-reset and so on...
never mind

UPDATE: phone settings.reg file is attache to this message. one needs simply import this file into device registry. no soft reset is required.
P.S. It would be goos if fit4cat will add this feature to his hermes tweaker.
Great finding
Guys, is Cing Video now activated and available as an option?
Thanks.
Is it me or does the ExtROM Unlocker only unhide the Extended ROM on this build - leaving it still read-only / protected?
I tried with fit4cat and the Hermes MountExtROM.cab but no luck modifing contents.

delete/replace extended rom files?

I upgraded via all the instructions..worked pretty flawlessy and was a bit scary.
ie: super CID, v1.06 downgrade to 1.04, upgrade to 1.35 South Africa, downgrade back to 1.04, upgrade radio stack to 1.20..blah blah. I unhid my extended rom but i see that its the one from South Africa.. I am using a cingular 8525 on T-mobile..is it possible to replace extended rom with the T-mobile MDA Vario II extended rom or the cingular 1.34 extended rom? And is it a good idea? I really wanna get back to normal...I don't think I've ever tweaked a device firmwarewise as I have this. (although i had fun with my mda...it was still designed for "t-mobile" though). My keypad did get disconfigured but i found a .xml cab file from one of the cingular extended roms and it worked thanks to searching the forums. But something doesn't just doesn't feel right. I want to feel normal like I have the appropriate software for my hardware? ( know what i mean?). I'm wondering if I could just simply delete all files in extended rom currently and replace with the latest cingular extended rom cab files or t-mobile vario II extended rom cab files?
note: i'm from the usa..so im a little confused with all these foreign roms etc. All I saw initially was a higher number shortly after when I started off with simply the goal to unlock the thing..lol.
Yes, you can replace the extended ROM from other one... you'll need to hard reset after to get the autorun configuration.
For a guy on T-mobile....i'm looking at replacing the extended rom from south africa with the latest cingular one of the t-mobile uk. I honestly have googled to try and find out what each cab file means..but seems like it would be safer to just replace with the latest cingular, especially in terms of selling the device later.
I wonder what everyone is doing? all you 1337 h4x0rs simply deleting files you don't need and then doing a backup after manually entering your internet, mms settings?
I'm so lost. maybe its because the MDA was around longer so it was like bread and butter flashing to Molski's rom etc. I know that we had a "missing mms shortcut" that we could just download....
blah..hi. my name is n00b. help can me you? lol

I don't know what l33t hax0rs are doing, but I just don't let the ExtROM install and after unhiding/unlocking it, I use it as storage space.... I do install some cabs which i have found to be useful either by: trial and error or extracting the cab file contents and looking at them. Also I take cabs from \windows\[pre]config.txt which are not on extrom but useful sometimes also.
For Internet and MMS settings I have a cab file I got from i-mate website long ago for my BlueAngel, and it is still useful on my hermes
Once you've everything sorted out, a full reinstall after a hard reset or ROM upgrade takes 10 min: meet Dr. Jonson, set time & date, install cabs... soft reset, install more cabs, soft reset and done
I noticed one of the extended roms listed in the wiki had a tiny bit of information
"HTC TyTN 1.18.255.105 ExtROM WWE (English)
LOCK:Enabled
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MT_Shortcut-MMS-Hermes.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_ExtVersion.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\P_Generic_UI.CAB (This contains the Green UI for the Wireless Manager)
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_3-AP-Patch.CAB (This contains the camera app and StreamingPlayer)
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MT_PC_Hermes_Qtek_WWE_060621.CAB (This contains the Green HTC TyTN UI for Phone Dialer and Smart Dialer)
CAB: \Extended_ROM\VT_Engine_23818_ext.CAB (Ati video driver, and audio+video codecs)
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_ace-certs.CAB
LOCKisabled
RST: Reset"
But furthermore i was able to hard reset my device and then i soft reset before any of the cab files were auto started..so i guess now i'm just gonna have to install one by one..wish i just knew because i'm spending so much time on this before even getting my phone functional. i havent even placed my contacts on this beast yet because i keep feeling that I'm gonna hard reset a couple of times and wipe them out.
Would i have to change the auto run and config text somehow to auto run certain files or would that still be considered "cooking your own extended rom"?

[Q] how to get back GPS app after ROM upgrade

I bought T-Mobile MDA Vario IV in Croatia and successfully did the HARDSPL to Olipro 1.90 and Radio Upgrade to 1.12.25.19
I am not satisfied with speed (T-Mobile MDA Vario II which I had before was significantly quicker with CRC 13.4 naked ROM plus some more apps via CRC's Device Update and also very stable), so I'd like to make the ROM Upgrade from factory WM 6.1 RUU_Hermann_TMO_HR_1.69.119.1, but I am not sure about all possible pros & cons possible
one of potential problems I'm affraid could happen is to lose app Mireo viaGPS 3.0 Black Edition; I'd like to have it after ROM upgrade because of precise maps and correct names for Croatia - how and what can I do to have it after upgrade
please advice me about correct steps to prevent mistakes or solve other possible problems
thanks in advance

Try checking your windows folder, it's possible that it was installed as a cab during customization. If so, just keep the cab. If there's no cab, perhaps you can use sk tools to move the program to your storage card (have to buy sk tools); this is assuming that it appears in \program files. Back up all of the registry settings as well. Heck it's not a bad idea to back up your entire registry and also copy everything in the rom (windows and every other folder on \my device) to your sd card that isn't nailed down. I'd recommend using RegEdit for the former and Total Commander for the latter.
