changing from Voda UK to the Docomo ROM - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hello!
I am very new to HTC and Windows Mobile and am thinking of replacing my slowly dying Tungsten T3 with the Vodafone 1605 !
I am also aware that I could buy the unbranded TyTn!
What I need the most is to be able to send and receive my emails in Japanese. I know both Docomo and SoftBank will release or have released the TyTn.
My question is - Can I re-flash or change the rom to this one ?
Docomo_HTCz_ExtROM_JP.zip
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Hermes/Extended_ROMs/
I know from reading other forums that I should be able to read and inout Japanese but the process to do that does seem complicated..
http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=217045
I found other pages too...
My thinking is that the DocomoHTCz_ExtROM_JP.zip file may give me the language settings that I need...
I am very new to this! The Tungsten T3 was easy!
Any advice is much appreciated. I have one month to go before I can upgrade, or I can proceed and buy an unbranded TyTn !

Do you know this?

If you can try please tell me how it works!
Sesaru

Hello sesaru,
sorry, I do not know that software and have nothing that I can try it on.
Looks interesting though...
Anyone else help?
By the way, have you been able to buy a HTC Hermes/SoftBank X01HT ?
I am interested in that or the Docomo version! But maybe it will not work in the UK...

Ext ROM means extended ROM - it contains all the bundled software so thats probably not what you want to be doing. The latest dopod WWE (world wide English) rom works on the voda 1605 I flashed mine with it, I only chose dopod because its the latest, I'll probably switch to i-mate once their upgrade comes out. Dopod has the game Another World on the ex rom which was a pretty cool flashback to my Amiga childhood.
I only see a Chinese dopod ROM on the wiki, no Japanese.

indiekiduk!
thanks very much! I understand clearly now.
I guess I need to do the procedures outlined here -
http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=217045
but a bit scary for a beginner.
Or wait for the Japanese ROM to appear,

I just got the SoftBank (ex. Vodafone) X01HT 3 days ago. Basically the unit is great, works quite well here in Japan although there are certain restrictions:
The wireless modem is disabled - that means I cannot use the X01HT as a Bluetooth modem for my laptop (very annoying)
I don't know if the unit is SIM locked or not (I just have Japanese Vodafone SIMs to test) I know though that my Japanese SIM in my mobile worked in the UK.
I plan to flash mine with a English language ROM, my command of Japanese is not really too good (native German speaker...)

That's interesting. I tried my UK Vodafone SIM in a few Vodafone Japanese phones last month and they did not work !

OK, My Sharp 902 Ferrari works well in Japan except for data. But data is extortionate anyway.....
There is a great plan in England for roaming! Calls within Japan and back to the UK cost only 75 pence a time, but for up to 59 minutes, using my free minutes!
I heard that sim free phones might become available in Japan. Have you heard os such a thing ?

Have not heard yet - but I'll look around...

what's the difference: XDA 2 and MDA 2 (t-mobile Germany)

hello guys,
simple question,
I can buy an MDA 2, which is cheaper than the XDA 2.
But i wanted to know if there are any differences, besides the design?
Is it locked to t-mobile? Could it be unlocked?
thanks for your help!
the hardware is the same of cause as they are both Himalaya which are oem'd from htc
about software difference then donno
about sim locks then http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/xda2unlock
thanks for your prompt reply.
So what do you suggest?
go for MDA, or XDA? and pay a 100 USD more...
donno non of them are for sale around here
since o2 and tmobile are not present on the mobile market
in this country
i got the qtek flavor myself which dont come with a phone subscription it's of cause not locked but since it's without a subscription it cost more
I would suggest that you buy the MDA ( if you can life with the design ) and upgrade it to what ever you like. ROMs are many around here...
I peronally like the customizition from O2, expecially the UserInterface and I don't what to miss it. The blue is also by far not so annoying than pink is ;-)
I have the MDA2
Just drive over the border (to Germany) buy the sim free mda2 from t-mobile which will set you back arround €750, and they have lots in stock.
Or even BETTER wait till after CIBIT and prices will come down quite a bit
i can have an MDA 2 for 560 €. i should get it?
well i suppose it depend on if it's simfree or if you want to use the mobil company because they often bill you a penelty if you just unlock the phone and use another sim and such

The new ROM QTEK9600 FRENCH is not free !!!

After having been able to get in touch with QTek France, they pointed me towards HTM.
HTM told me that to get this update (if it's the last one), THEY had to do it, that they will NOT provide the update on an internet site and that it will cost us poor froggies 59€ !!!!
Can someone confirm this ?
Hello,
Why don't you use the last Swiss Rom Orange? I upgrade 3 days ago and it's perfect for Orange France users, because it's french and Orange
And last but not least, That's totally free!!!!
Regards,
Well, i must change my signature by the way now....
Well I could, thou it's not an SPV M3100 that I have, but the plain french version of the HTC TyTN.
So if any warranty issues appear, I won't be eligible

German T-Mobile Vario IV not locked!

Hi to all,
Seems there is no need for SIM unlocking the Vario....
I operate it with an Alice Card, which means working in E+ - no Probs at all!
Best Regards!

owh. i didn't know that. sorry.
Varioprices in Germany
Just to say it:
Prices for electronic devices are much morre expensive in Europe - even without the temporary high $/€ exchangerates...
f.e.: the Vario IV without contract of T-Mobile costs almost 800€ - in the states you´ll get it for this price in US$.
So......
Best regards

Getting one in The Netherlands

I am a HD2 user, but also want to get a TG01.
Anyone know where I can get one in Netherlands?
Or a SIM-Unlocked/unbranded one from the web?

On ebay or no idea. But I think on ebay you can buy everithing.
hello
if you buy from ebay, you can flash thanks to a custuum sddownloader, the rom in any langague. however beware this hack do not work with tg01 from japan.
also, you can unlock this phone via some specialsed website. the cost is about 10 euros. i did it with my orange tg01 from france and it works, even if i flashed many roms after.
Never bought anything from ebay.
Is it Trust??
ya its perfectly fine , i got meself over $1000 worth of stuff total (incl tg01)

[Q] Android from Japan

Hi,
I'm planning to buy Xperia Tablet Z in Japan and bring it to Europe, but I'm worried about several things.
1) How is with warranty?
2) What about menu language, recovery menu language - will it be in Japanese only?
3) Custom roms - will be there problem with custom roms? Will I have to search for roms on japanese forums?
Is there anything else that I should be expecting when buying one of these from Japan?
thanks in advance

Nope . I guess it'll be the same everywhere
Just check the radio frequencies of the phone, I don't know if they are compatible with the European ones, since you'll buy it in japan...
