(bad?) news for those who have changed X01HT ROM to English - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

softbank has released a new ROM for X01HT. there seem to be some modifications such as bootloader version up.
the biggest modifications for those who currently use open softbank connection with flat fee discount are;
1) the current connection will be invalid from 4/1/2007.
2) the new rom will install a new connection for this discount.
3) the password for the new connection is not found yet.

I could have sworn that one of the current Softbank EXT ROMS added the open softbank connection for me from the Imate ROM. Maybe the new EXT ROMS will do the same.

no, you can't do that anymore. i read that the extrom of the new one doesn't have the cab file and the executable did the ap setup for the old rom and it appears the ap setup is hard coded in the new rom itself. they've changed the id/pw and the id seems to be opensoftbank but it will be difficult to crack the pw.

btw, someone has already uploaded this new rom to the hermes uploads ftp. not on ftp://xda:[email protected]/Hermes yet.

I for one am not really that worried, yet...
I've got faith in this forum and it's pool of talented hackers to find away around this misguided attempt at SoftBank to make everyone learn Japanese.
Besides, we've got until April 1st before this changeover is mandatory, right?

Their problem is not that they hate English speakers, it's that they offer a flat-rate service for a phone which has its modem capability disabled.
If they allowed hacked phones to access their network people would start using them as modems with their bluetooth laptops. That kind of bandwidth is much bigger than the phone would use on its own, and usually very expensive.
The lack of English firmware is just lazyness on their part.

personally, i am not optimistic about this change although it does not affect me since i am japanese and read japanese.
for non-japanese people, i suppose installing the new japanese rom and english muis would be the only solution to enjoy the flat rate discount for the time being.

you might be right but will see... we still have 4 more months to work on this.

I've been slogging through the murky waters of 2ch reading about this update.
Here's what is known so far:
1) It's basically a change to a new username and password on the Open Softbank connection. The other things in the new ROM are unlikely to affect people with totally different ROMs on their phones -- stuff like the Softbank in-software SIM-Lock have been fortified.
2) The connection details are no longer in the Extended ROM, so it's no longer just the matter of installing the Softbank EXTROM on top of an English ROM.
3) The new connection details are stored in the file mxipupdate_zzPIED_102.provxml. however the "password" in that file is blank. Since the actual password for the "opensoftbank" user is not in fact blank, some other program must set the password later.
This is all third-party info for me, I haven't had a chance to install or play with the new ROM yet...

I gave you the benefit of the doubt. I understand that society really drills into your head the "specialness" and "uniqueness" of this country, and that a lot of Japanese people sometimes forget that there are quite a lot of foreigners who become adept at Japanese. And so I gave you a chance to apologize for a statement that I took as *unintentionally* prejudiced.
And you repeat exactly the same statement.
Racist asswipe. People like you are exactly what's wrong with this country.

WoW...whats happening here? I am certain qtotter didnt mean to insult anyone. I dont think the Japanese society drills anyone to think "special" about themselves. Thats a priviledge exclusively for Americans. lol
So why are you so touchy about this...man,...some people just waste time and energy for nothing. And there is NOTHING wrong with Japan. At least not in this context.
Back to the topic. I realize we the upgrade might be necessary. But will i definately loose the modem capability?

Also, if you think that qtotter is not the type of person who means to insult anyone, you should check out some of his other posts.

If you put Softbank's ROM on, yeah. The other choice is to wait and see whether anyone figures out the password between now and April 1st. If someone gets the password, we will be able to use some other company's ROM that has modem capability. The folks over on the 2ch mobile board are already making good progress.

having a jewish american who speaks, reads and writes japanese as my partner, i don't think i deserve such a name as racist.
i do imagine you must have had a hard time in japan and have strong pride about your language capability, but i don't think i owe you either an apology or a consolation.
upon your comment, i actually and carefully changed my comment although you thought they were exactly the same. please read them again to find where i changed, and you will see why i changed the part if you still care.
since i don't want to keep this thread off the discussion, please send me private messages if you have any further words for me, personally.

There is nothing wrong with Japan or its people thinking that they are "special" as you put it. Its called national pride.
He was saying that since he is Japanese he has no problem using the new ROM. He also said that "for non-japanese people, i suppose installing the new japanese rom and english muis would be the only solution to enjoy the flat rate discount for the time being." While there are quite a few "non-japanese" people who speak and read japanese, the majority of "non-japanese" do not.
Personally alot of the forieners in this country are in or associated with the US government / military. I didn't find it offensive and no one except you seem to have taken offense to it. I know you spent alot of time learning the language and such but don't criticize and call the guy names for making a simple mistake. No one considers all the people and their difference in the world when making forum posts.
My wife is Japanese and we get things confused alot due to the "lost in translation" factor. To me this just looks like a simple case of that.
Lets just keep this forum clean and fun please.

guys,
i think we had enough off the topic posts going on.

I have to agree with XDA developer Peter Poelman
come on xcahnge - $14 is not a lot for software... that is damned useful...
and entertaining, and intuitive. Instead of moaning why not just develop your own version of the software and distribute it as freeware?
I mean if it cost several hundred pounds and you used it three times you'd have cause to grumble.
Dont forget that programmers have mouths to feed - and being a software developer is as worthy a job as a train driver or electrician.
(Apart from Solicitors & Estate Agents)
I am none of these by the way, but I know plenty of programmers!
Dont forget that we need people like this to develop apps for our phones to make them "far more functional" than our friends nokias, or motorolas are.
Hold on a minute you dont like paying 14 dollars, but you have several hundred dollars worth of mobile phone!!!!
Just try it out. add three pics for your best friends and if you like it then just BUY NOW!

hi all
this is a great site and i normally log in daily i used to have a nokia communicator but the xda is a lot more usefull and the only real website for the xda is my-symbian.com and that started a bit like this site but turned very quickly into a forum for selling software and not really intrested in the people or the product it would be s ahame for this to happen here there is loads of free software out there try downloading bear share and you will get loads of games. anyway keep up the good work on the website.

So... what about sharing the serial!!!!
caller2picture is pants..
I only wanted to be able to select different ringtones... caller2picture adds its bloatware crap and removes another useful feature <sending an sms from the contacts> (or has nobody noticed?)
nobody has made a program with a little box that lets you do the same thing?

It is useless, because it is generated depending on number on your Register screen. And that one is probably calculated from your name/or other unique parameters of you xda.
Hi!
Anyone got similar problem. The pictures aren't showing themselves regularly and consistently. They pop up many times less than they don't. Suggest anything, guys? :?
What is frustrating is I bought the full version, but it will not work with WM2003PE.

The program does work with my ppc2003. Anyway, you have to remove your sd card before the installation since the system will automatically install the software to sd card even you choose to install on the default location. The Picture2Caller does have some bugs when installed to ppc 2003. That is the software fails to work with all contacts. Anyway, if you feel ok with this, go ahead. Cheers
I want to agree with Arzeb,
This is an AWESOME site, complete with smart helpful people. Please keep up the excellent stuff that gets done here.
xchange: please chill.
THANX to the rest of you.
Hal.
Tried installing it again withot the SD card, still does not work. What happens is, it does not retrieve the contact's name, and phone numbers.

Newbie questions about TyTN

Hi people, had my TyTN for over 2 weeks now (HTC Branded tytn....HT628 serial number)
Just have a few questions:
1. Are upgrades easily done on the TyTN
2. What are these 'ROMs' i keep hearing about??
3. What KILLER apps do people use on it??
(excuse my newbie-ness)
Thanks.
You cant be serious...or you simply just have more money than brains.
1. Yes, but be prepared to re-install all of your apps.
2. Roms are basically the core operating system for the TyTn's, Roms and upgrade go hand in hand(ie, to upgrade your tytn you put a new rom on it)
3. Check out SBSH software and SPB software, both companies make alot of software alot of people use, there is also an abundant amount of freeware out there.
For reviews of applications, pop over here
For a list of apps that are considered 'must haves' check here

I'm sorry has my asking questions on a forum offended you in some way?? why bother replying if uve got nothing constructive to say.
Umm, I just got my first cell phone, a LG C2000 about 3 months ago, and have yet to get a TyTN, all I know is before I spend $750 on a device, I read reviews and such, and the first review I read something about ROM's, and well I didnt know about ROM's, but a very easy search on google led me to the answer, and what do you know...during my research, I came across many forums with "must have" software for the TyTN, I'm not out to flame people..but when someone apparently has not even helped themselves at all, I just cant always keep my mouth shut.
It's like this dude bought a TyTN cause it looked cool, showed it off to his friends for a few weeks, and now wants to know how to use it.

Dont tar people with the newbie brush when all they ask is a simple set of questions! Yer ive only made one video call so far as not many people i know have a 3G handset, unfortunatly it wasnt cross network so im yet to see if the networks here in the UK (T-Mobile, Vodefone, 3, Orange and O2) are cooperating with eachother...(MMS wasnt FULLY cross network until about a year into it!!!!)
The person in question has a clamshell-type Samsung handset and the video quality between was brilliant! My UMTS reception is patchy here in York but it was fine. Ended up getting cut off as the other person lost thier UMTS. As said above this was a video call O2 to O2 so couldnt comment on other networks just yet.
Speedwise my UMTS connection has been as high as 944kbps when tested on bandwidthplace.com which i thought was astonishing!!!
When im out of range for 3G it just reverts back to standard GSM and GPRS.
P.S: Thanks for the encouraging words.

Reception of TyTN vs Wizard
Hi folks,
Any other input on the reception of the TyTN and it's variants (8525)? I've got myself a KJAM and an 8125 and I have horrible reception at home. Even did the antenna hack - it adds a little, but still spotty.
I'd like to upgrade to the 8525 for 3G and increased processing power, but the cost isn't worth it for me if the reception is still as bad as the Wizard/KJAM/8125.
Thanks.

Hermxxxx and 3G

Hello all,
I have a 8525 from a Cingular store. How can I tell if it is a HERM100, 200 or 300? What is the difference between them? How do you turn on 3G on your phone? All mine is doing now is Edge since upgrading to WM6. The only connection mine has is Media Net. How can I plug my phone into my laptop and not have my phone switch from Edge to nothing? I'd rather have the phone stay on Cingular network even if plugged into a laptop.
Any ideas?

I think you should check out HowardForums.com and/or the Cingular Forums. The questions you're asking show a lack of understanding of even the most basic aspects of the GSM network the phone uses to operate.
Seriously, just learn some more before you hurt yourself and/or your phone.
But, the_passenger is totally right.. the WIKI is YOUR FRIEND!
what about this simple infobox?
it is in Settings and Device information, or you can move device to bootloader and you may see the model in very first line of tri-color screen.
and what is the differences? in button layout and plastic cover, HW seems to be the same on all models, on some hermes´s is not video call button (like on HERM300 from T-mobile instead HERM200 in Cingular). check this - http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Versions
I just switched from Motorola phones to a Pocket PC phone 2 months ago. I've been modding/flashing/hacking Motorola phones since 1998. HoFo has 1 in 100 that will actually help someone out while the other 99 just flame the person. Cingular forums just suck and they always have.
Flashing a phone cannot hurt your in any shape or form. Just as I have been putting on my site "By downloading these files you agree that this process might ruin your phone and we cannot be held liable."
On another note, instead of padding your post count and spamming the forums with "$2.50/minute LIVE help" posts, just skip them if you actually do not have anything that answers their post. My questions were only after a few weeks of being in the shadows reading posts and doing 5 other flashes on my 8125 and 8525. My issue seems to be more WM6 related which is why I might switch to another WM6.

Ok I think we set off on the wrong foot, so I will try to answer your queries, but I highly recommend you read the wiki as it will give you much better understanding of the general stuff we do here
So you have Cingular 8525? : To find out which model it is goto start>settings>system(tab)>Device information. Tap the identity tab and it will display your details.
For 3G (aka UMTS) to work firstly you need a 3G sim card (aka a USIM) and 3G coverage. The device will AUTOMATICALLY switch between 3G(UMTS) and 2G(GSM), to get the best signal. When you sync with the PC via USB it will connect to the net via your broadband connection or dial-up (whatever your pc uses). But with the latest Activesync(4.5) you can choose to allow wireless comms when connected.
Finally sir, it is VERY possible to permenantly brick your device if you do not follow the correct procedure, even bad luck (a dodgy USB connection or power outage when flashing) will ruin the device temporarily or even beyond repair. This is why we insist users read the wiki and read through the threads before flashing anything.
Hope this helps.
I am not sure why a lot people get angry when asked to read the Wiki. I must have read the Wiki at least a hundred time by now and almost every time I read it, I find something new that I over looked previously. Anyway the Wiki has been my friend from the days of the Wallaby.

Thats great you know alot about moto phones, but thats irrelevant here. *Most* of your questions could have been answered by yourself had you taken the time to even play with the phone. Or even taken the battery out and looked at the label, you would see the 8525 is clearly marked HERM100.

He did offer real help, there is also a point to having what he had on his signature, only a complete idiot will pay him that money to help fix their phone, its only there to encourage noobs to read and search... judging by your original post gave us the indication that you are a noob and would be better suited at hofo or forums.cingular.com ... All of the questions you asked here has been covered on the cingular forums, i know, i was once quite active there till i told the mods how lazy they were and how bad of a job they did in controlling the content, needless to say i was banned for being right.
Also you may want to utilize the search function, its located in the upper right hand corner, it has the word "Search" on it. also dont forget to RTFW... it can be found here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes <---- i provided an easy clickable link for you since you dont like to read or search.

Yes, it can. On these phones you can damage it beyond repair. HTC needs to replace your MAINBOARD to fix it! Warranty does not cover bad flashings of the roms on here.

I was being helpful. I was trying to prevent you from having a $400 paper-weight. If you don't want to read and you just want questions that have been discussed here ad-nauseum, I suggest you kiss your phone goodbye if you start flashing roms without any understanding of what you're doing.
As for my charging money.. It started as a joke on IRC; although I have provided paid support to someone. I charged my normal (not $2.50/min) rates based on the time I felt it should have taken to solve the issue. He was quite happy with the service. I don't push my paid support - it's just an option. Much like it's an OPTION for you to be a ****wit or to actually read the posts and the wiki and become a contributing member of this forum. I make my living supporting Windows and Linux networks, etc.. Everything I do can be found out for free, or from books. But, sometimes people don't want to spend the time learning everything about their computer networks and would rather make money doing what THEY do best (whether that is being a doctor, salesperson or lawyer). In this case, there are people who probably want WM6, but, don't want to do it themselves. It's just an OPTION. That's what makes this site great.. Lots of OPTIONS.

My questions were only after a few weeks of being in the shadows reading posts and doing 5 other flashes on my 8125 and 8525. My issue seems to be more WM6 related which is why I might switch to another WM6.

8125 (the Wizard) is NOT as touchy as the 8525. You will REALLY destroy your phone if you flash a bad radio or a bad rom. You can REALLY **** things up in a bad way. So, don't listen to the stupid elf because I have the audacity to offer a paid service in addition to the free help in the forums. But, don't come whining back to us complaining when your new phone dies.

Flashing a phone cannot hurt your in any shape or form. Just as I have been putting on my site "By downloading these files you agree that this process might ruin your phone and we cannot be held liable."

no, it can hurt; if you write a corrupt IPL or SPL to the PDA, you're utterly ****ed.
other ways to **** the device involve restictions placed within the regular bootloader, mostly involving corruption of the CID or invalidating the OS.

How to Change the IMEI for X01HT?

i don't how to using the iwizard_979.zip to change it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=274860&highlight=IMEI

...thirdly its probably illegal to change your IMEI
It's never illegal to change it... Only to use it once changed...

PS. I cannot imagine any legal reason to change imei...

he a CIA agent and dont want n e one to tap in to his convo over the phone....lol
stop flaming the IMEI posts
I don't understand why you gentleman get your panties all in a bunch whenever anyone even mentions IMEI changing. I've read the ridiculously long post by vijay regarding the (assumed) illegality of changing one's IMEI number. But this is a DEVELOPERS forum. Not some sort of cell co customer support forum. The whole point here is for DEVELOPERS to be able to talk about all the nitty gritty details of how we can void our warranties in interesting, novel ways. The forum even has an indisputable history of encouraging IMEI experimentation just as much as ROM cooking (which seems to be the only focus of xda-developers any more.) So let's not restrict our discussions based on this bogus "legality" argument. Ultimately, the users are responsible for what they do with their devices. Let's not play Big Brother and try and impose arbitrary restrictions on what people can learn.
As a side issue, I'd like to suggest that a separate forum be added for ROM cooking. The signal-to-noise ratio has continuously gone south with more and more users posting their own "custom" ROMs (which are little more than the exact same OS with different software taken out or left in). The registry tweaks are all documented (or can be). These releases are just the same old thing with the creator's theme, splash screens, and name added to it. Which isn't to say that people shouldn't create, just that it'd be a vast improvement if we could keep these discussions in there own forum.

^ apologies, it is blocked at work and did not show a name on my phone, the right column was blank.
That guy doesn't speak english natively and I had a hard time talking with him last time... not a knock on him, he was super nice... is there anyone else listed?
Also, I have not seen that guy on here in months.
Yeap, looked it up and he has not even posted since March 3rd... sounds like we need a new one.
Sorry, really wish that document would load at work.

There is no one else listed on the sheet. But I have seen "rolfd" actively moderating the threads.

I heard this about a month or two ago, because i complained at the XDA COMPLAINTS section about us not getting any moderation from mmelo, they told me that there was bad weather there, and he could not connect to internet from where he lived... That was a month ago, maybe he's having IRL issues? i don't know, but even though we don't have a OFFICIAL mod, others come around quite a lot, specially Binary.
Disregard the name for our section because more than 1 come in regularly.
Alright, I'll pm them even though their document says not to. No other choice.
Thanks.
Isn't m_t_ m one also?

There are currently 3 of us assigned to this forum.
Myself, M_T_M, and mmelo76.
mmelo76 is the actual mod for here but is currently out due to problems at home with some seriously bad weather. We are here helping out untill he gets back.
In the meantime, if you have any problems, feel free to PM myself or M_T_M.

MMelo76 is Brazilian and I have conversed with him both in Portuguese and English. Yes his English is not advanced but, his comprehension is excellent and is able to get his point across. He is very conscientious and through. The area he is in has been getting mudslides and alike so there has been alot of line disruption. hope this subsides for him........... and things get back to normal.
We are Lucky to also have MTM and ROLFD as mods as well both are seasoned and definitely do not put up with the useless diatribe that occasionally gets posted. BTW...... isn't Rolf a form of massage ? so Rolfd means you were massaged ????...........
I'm learning things, cool.

That's news to me, but if we have any sexy phone nerds (female of course) willing to massage me, I'm game. Lol.
My username is actually part of my real name, it's German. I can't speak a word of it though!

Thanks all.
Hi, Hi, sorry to disappear around this time.
It was not just a connection problem, my house has suffered from the rains about 3 months. I'm still renovating it and trying to have a good condition of housing.
'm prioritizing my family (wife and two children), employment and rebuild my house. I appeal to it, but unfortunately it takes a while.
Well I am accessing the forum just a few things with the change of employment, the forum is blocked by the server, so I'm short on time of access.
Things are almost resolved, after making my house, we get some infection, but we're better now.
I appreciate the emails and support of all, I intend to return as soon as possible to support my habit to the forum.
Because of the blockade, I'm not accessing a lot to them, report post, but I'm always trying to look at the forums that I am assigned. Over the weekend, I dedicate more time to my house if I actually change or buy another property, I will have more time for now, still a little troubled.
I still have many emails to check, both here and personal ....
Excuse me English, I used the google translation without revision
No problem mmelo!
Family and life come ahead of internet geeks anyday!
Glad things are turning alright for you mmelo, best of luck mate.
You guys are troopers. I can't imagine having to mod the Vibrant forums, it sounds like a nightmare. Mmelo76 doesn't need any more on his plate!
Thank all of you guys for modding, I know you guys do it for free.
<3
God the mods have to handle Birger's posts! Thats a headache for sure! what a troll.
