CID Lock - G4

Hi .. i want know when you talk about CID Locked, what it is that ?
I have my 8125 G4 UnLocked to can use any sim chip, from any Mobile Operator, on the world, so, for my idea i have unlocked my 8125, but when you talk about CID i cant understan if you talk about othe lock protection or if how i have unlocked my phone for a any sim chip, i have my 8125 CID unlocked.
some one can explain to me better?
Thank's a lot, i want to try the WM6 Rom, and i need know if i have unlocked my 8125, i think that my 8125 is G4 not G3 about the FAQS that i see on the forum, you can see my IPL/SPL data, on my signature.
I have yet the Cingular WM5 that came from factor.
And i want know if i can made a my own custome ROOM, and how do that.

Do some reading at the wiki. Top of this page, marked "XDA-Wiki". Lots of information there. As for CID-Lock and SIM-Lock issue, go to the Freq Asked Question section (in the Wiki) under ROM.
Flashing without unlocking for G4 also included in the wiki.
HOWEVER, for your case, which you can't even tell the difference between a SIM and CID lock, I wont recommend you to do it before spending a week or two really reading the stuff here.. and chances are you will brick your phone. ANYWAY, you are probably rich enough to brick a few phones.

Thnak's harnmin, i was read on other posts the diference between CID and SIM lock, just i usually use a SmarPhones (like MPx220) and commonly these device not came with a CID lock, but i have unlock know my 8125 G4, and i looking for fix some problems that i have with the WM6 that not have before with WM5.
Thank's lot for your "Support".

SIM-Unlock is the ability to use SIM card from any carrier, CID-Unlock is the ability to flash ROMs for any carrier (as well as custom ROMs). They are completely different. Don't get confused or you will most likely have a brick.
p.s. G4 Wizard cannot be CID-unlocked, just HardSPL/SoftSPL.
Don't be silly, all things you want is already in the forum, kindly use the search function and/or see the stickies.

CID lock: Carrier ID lock
-this lock will prohibit you from flashing ROMs other than those from the carrier your device was provided for.
Super CID: developers CID (Often: 1111111) Will give your device gc_securitylevel=0 (so do soft and hard SPL)
To be honest: G4 can be CID unlocked, however, opening the door to writing the CID block will provide an open door to illegal IMEI-changing..
Therefore CID unlock has never been released (and never will be released, so don't even ask), soft and hard SPL will provide your device a fake super-CID and will also allow you to change everything except your imei

Explaination required for CID-Unlocked?

What does actually mean when saying "CID-Unlocked a phone"? After spending 2 days reading forums, i came to know CID-Unlocking means to change your IMEI number. Please clearify my thoughts...
Thanks
No, it's not changing your imei. A CID-lock prevents rom's from other carriers to be flashed.
RE:
How I can check whether my phone needs CID-Unlocking or not?
Just clearify me, if the phone is CID-Locked and you run the ROM Update Utility (RUU) within Windows [providing your phone is properly ActiveSync(ed)], it will not update (when it boots up after the process) or if you try to flash with Emergency Flash Utlity on tri-colored screen?
I don't know whether I am correct or wrong, please make me understand the process.
Thanks
In short, you need to CID-unlock your phone if and only if you need to flash your phone with a ROM other than the provider of your phone (T-Mobile, iMate, O2, home-made, etc). E.g., if you want to flash a MDA phone (e.g. from T-Mobile) with a home-made ROM (e.g. from XDA-Dev), you will need to CID-unlock your phone.
NOTE: In exceptional case, if you were to flash your phone using the `ShellTool` software, you do not need to CID-unlock your phone. Currently there are no money-free way of CID-unlocking your G4 Wizard.

You have a G4 device you CANNOT downgrade to a 1.x rom.
You CANNOT flash your IPL/SPL if you try you will definately make your device an unrecoverable brick.
IPL/SPL has nothing to do with CID or SIM locking or unlocking. They are the bootloaders for your radio and OS.
You should never have to change your IMEI number. This is actually illegal in some places. The only reason your IMEI number would not work is if your phone was stolen and in turn reported stolen by the original purchaser. In which case the IMEI would be blacklisted so the criminal could not make use of the stolen phone and hopefully would get the idea that stealing phones is not a profitable venture.
If you paid for and used the IMEI Unlocker software correctly then your device is probably unlocked and you can try flashing G4 safe roms to the device.
If your phone is locked you have the means to unlock it if you paid for it from the website, if you didn't pay for it and got it from someone else it will not work as the algorithm is based on the IMEI # I believe.
Lastly CID unlock is not the same as SIM unlock. What are you trying to do and WHY do you need to do these things to your phone? You haven't made this clear and I don't think you understand what you need to do to get your phone working the way you want it to, if you keep progressing this way you will ruin your device. I suggest you stop and read the G4 forums.
Hi mate,
i've got exactly the same device, look at my signature how flashed WM6, there is no need to get rid of IPL/SPL 2.21.0001 or G4, even CID-unlocking is not necessary. The only limitation is that you can't change the splashscreen - i don't mind it anyways.
regards
IRM
Of course you can change the Splash Screens. I have a G4 Wizard and now have XDA Mobile 6 and added the Splash screens that are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310954
but you need to use the Update Utility from Wizard Love, just swap the nk.nbf file.
You can also use the Update Utility from Wizard Love to change the Radio ROM.
Kind Regards
Darren
i used the imei unlocker ..i think it could make bricks
i unlocked my phone 8125 (g4) w/ 2.21.0001 2.21.0001 after that
it would never come out of boot mode
from just that i think it somehow screwed me
ipl 2.21.0001
spl 2.21 i was told this is a valid (G3) spl where it came from i don't know
can't find anything to fix it
i get a error invalid vendor id when i try to flash the stock at&t rom
nothing seems to work
looks like its simi unlocked but it finished to 100% and then rebooted
anyone know any threads tha discuss a mixed ipl / spl
thanks , i hope the wizard is bio degradable
No known recovery method for a mixed IPL/SPL in G4, it's a currently a brick.

Help with a MDA Vario II

Hi everyone,my name's Larry and I just registered to the forums. Please forgive my newness but I am in a bit of a pickle here.
I have a MDA Vario II, aka Hermes 300, that I bought s/h off ebay. Works fine,no worries, but I upgraded to WM6 because i felt browsing was a little slow and the screen graphics werent as good as I expected. The upgrade was from the T-mobile site itself and all went fine. Only thing is I dont believe this phone can handle it(needs more RAM really) and after being online a while it gets really slow, like steerig a cow through treacle at times so I came to the conclusiong it was a bad move! Now I've noticed a link on here about downgrading to WM5 but is it that easy for one with no specialised tools or knowledge(tho i did build my own PC, or should I say ahem WE did)
Also a problem the phone has developed since the upgrade is it keep deleting my email settings, even tho on the 'desktop' screen it tells me i have so many unread emails in each account! So now i cant check emails from it either!
I do hope I can sort this out cos it is really frustrating having a PDA and not being able to browse properly!
Many thanks
Larry
Welcome to XDA-Developers larry. Well Firstly i would start with CID unlocking your device so that you can flash any rom you can do that by downloading hard spl from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
then once you have flashed that you can basically download and install any rom for the hermes. I have an mda vario ii and hate the t-mobile rom as it installs quite a bit of useless crap. I never use and it is also so damn ugly. if after installing a new rom you find you have internet connection problems and/or mms settings then download and run this http://rapidshare.com/files/92547562/UK_Setup.exe that will install the settings for internet and mms for all uk networks, the majority of the cooked roms on here though ,already have a network wizard to set it up for you, but better to be safe than sorry
P.S. I forgot to add if you are looking for speed and extra ram i would look for a vanilla(clean) rom, install that and then add the apps you want via cab files, you will find them scattered about all over this site

all your question answered here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
I have looked thru the wiki and cannot find the advice I need.
My device has the following on it and what I would like to know is if I can actually drowngrade the device back to WM5.
The rom version is 3.60.110.4 (T-mobile UK)
The radio version is 1.50.00.00 so I assume that it is boot 0108.
The IPL is 1.04 and the SPL 2.03.
The protocol reads as follows 32.83.7020.20H
I have come across a guide that states if the radio is above 1.27.00.00 then downgrading may not be possible.
"(NOTE: If your radio version is currently HIGHER than 1.27.00.00 then it is very likely the radio bootloader is version 0108, this WILL NOT allow the radio to be downgraded to a radio containing BL 0106 and will result in a "NO GSM" error.)" -http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=27
The other question I would like to ask is this - it is possible to put another verion of WM6 on with this radio version?
Thanks for any advice!
Can anyone help me here!
Do I need to SIM unlock my PDA to update the ROM to a custom ROM, for example Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.30 which I recently downloaded from here.
At the moment it is locked to T-mobile. I have also updated the SPL to 2.10 olipro and the radio is at 1.50.00.00 and the HTC boot is 0108.
Thanks guys

I think you might not have gotten help 'cause it doesn't look like you've read what people pointed for you to read. Hopefully this'll help you get over the jargon hump and make progress. Having upgraded from the Offical T-Moble rom and swapped ROMs, it's definitely worth taking the time to learn how to do.
SIM unlock & CID unlock aren't the same.
If you've had you phone with T-Mobile for at least 3 month they will let Unlock you SIM (at least they do in the US). Contact them directly, you'll need an active account & phone number with them. This is free.
CID unlocking allows flashing ROMs onto your PDA. For some reason the folks at T-mobile, etc want you to have to look at their stuff every time you use a machine you bought through them. Using a cooked rom is like reinstalling XP without having AOL on your computer, makes life much better.
(flashing = installing to a PDA's Read Only Memory)
(ROM = OS + Radio + other stuff = basically everything thats on the PDA after a hard reset)
Flashing can be a dangerous thing, you don't want to 'brick' your PDA so you install an escape hatch. Hard SPL is that escape hatch.
(Brick = peice of baked clay = your PDA if a ROM install fails and you didn't install Hard SPL first)
The Hard SPL protects you if the ROM you installs fails 'cause power went out, ROM was bad, you bumped the cable, etc

Read & Follow the directions.
Select a ROM from here

I have the same model & just installed Custel V2.5, seems to work well so far (day 2).

Good Luck
Thanks gt, and we have read advice on here but a lot of seems to be conflicting plus we seem to be just going round and round. Yep, ben there, yep read that etc.
I know the diff. between SIM and CID unlock but all I want to know is is it necessary to SIM unlock the phone to update a ROM?
I wont be using another network but will be staying with T-mobile W n W.
I did it!
Well I did it. flashed the phone with Schaps WM6 4.30 WWE.
Have noticed it runs faster than the previous T-Mobile WM6 and has some really neat features-you can adjust a lot more settings on the phone than before, quite impresed! Thanks for everyones help!

Thick Newby wanting a simple CID unlock answer

I must be thick as I have read more posts on this than I have had hot dinners and tried various utilities all to no avail although thankfully my Wizard still seems to work.
My O2 XDA-Mini s is about 2 years old and of course locked to O2 although the device come up as SIM Unlocked but CID Locked.
IPL - 2.21.0001
SPL - 2.21.0001
I am now on the Three network and would just like to get back to using the phone I love rather than the freebie I have now, so I am assuming I need to get CID Unlocked?
Having bothered to get to that stage I would want to scrap the O2 software and upgrade to a better ROM.
Sorry for being so stupid on this, I am hoping someone in the know can take the time to reply.
Thanks in advance
If it's sim unlocked you don't need to CID unlock to enable other sims.
If your new sim is rejected, then the device is still sim locked.
CID is only used for flashing, so if you want to upgrade to the better WM6 roms now available, you'd have to unlock it permanently (hard SPL) or use the Soft SPL.
Good luck,

Thanks for taking time to reply EquinoXe, you have confirmed what I had already thought.
The device reports "Invalid or missing SIM card" with the Three SIM card and WST v4.2.2 reports "Your phone is already SIM unlocked" ??
I do wan't to upgrade the ROM but more importantly I want to get the thing working with the Three SIM card, then I can worry about the ROM.
Any other suggestions will be gladly received.
Thanks in Advance
Download and use the LOLKWIZ03b program from these forums, follow the insturctions EXACTLY, and it will generate you a SIM unlock code.....enjoy!

I have done this twice just recently but my G4 is not asking me to enter any unlock code. I read other threads where people had similar problems so tried a few times, device still comes up "Invalid or missing SIM card"
I ran EnableRapi from the device before running the batch file so I'm not sure what is going on or if it is something quirky about the G4 device??

Strange, according to lokiwiz (and WST) you are sim- unlocked.
But clearly your three sim card won't be accepted.
I do remember that HTC had been messing with the bootloaders, had to downgrade one in order to unlock it too..
Could you Flash a 2.19.0001 (or earlier G4) IPL/SPL ROM and try again?
You can use dharvey4651's thread as a guide to flash the IPL/SPL.
Just ignore the carrier ROMs, and only update (downgrade) the IPL/SPL with one attached to djharvey's thread (preferably the orange, because that one worked for me).
Flashing bootloaders can damage your device beyond repair, please use this method only if you are shure about the process, and know what you are doing. I am not responseble or liable for any damages.
Flash the IPL/SPL (takes a minute), then try again to unlock the phone.
Note: WM6.x needs IPL/SPL 2.19.xxxxx at least (works great with a 2.19), so if you have downgraded to a lower number, you'd have to upgrade again in order to run WM6.x .
Good luck,
EquinoXe
Same Problem
I have the same problem as the previous post. I downgraded from WM6.1 to a WM5.1 ROM and then ran lokiwiz - success!
I have now gone back to the original WM6.1 ROM and again I am locked out from my o2 SIM.
I am using: WM6.1 ROM Prophet My Green Edition http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2116170

Thanks EquinoXe, I am going to try a T-Mobile, Vodaphone and Orange SIM later to see what results then maybe tomorrow try your last suggestion.
Thanks and I will post any results, hopefully not a flashy paperweight (~:
------------------------------
I have now tried T-Mobile, Vodaphone and Orange SIM cards in the Wizard and all work OK so unlocking was never the problem, obviously O2 is OK also as this was it's original branding.
So the problem is only with the Three SIM, I have an old T610 and T630 which I just put the Three SIM into with the same results.
Need to do a bit more reading on this but I thought this sort of restrictive trading practice went out with the monopolies issues, as it seems at the end of my contract it's not just a matter of me buying a phone of my choice, if I want a new handset I have to go with Three, who interestingly don't do XDA style phones, or change contracts.
More if it happens.
I'm guessing that the reason the 3 sim card won't work is because the Mini S isn't a 3G capable device - 3 is the only network in the UK that's 3G exclusive, hense why other (T-mobile, Vodafone, O2 and Orange) sims will work and the 3 sim card won't.
Hope this helps.

unbrand + new rom

Hi all,
I have been reading through the variety of posts and videos. There is quite some info about soft and hard SPL, RUU, etc... A full 4h of reading and I still feel like I'm nowhere.
I find it hard to filter out the steps I need to undertake for a noob like me to flash my device.
The situation is as follows: Recently I won a P5500 16-keys French device which is branded (Belgian operator). I Want it unbranded with a regular dutch ROM 16-key flashed on it (I don't need any special "cooked" ROMS), I'll be glad enough when I get rid of this French. I'm not sure what steps I need to undertake to reach this and I certainly don't want to risk bricking it. So the fastest, safest way without unnecessary steps is what I look for
I found this ROM: Nike_Original_NLD_ROM_v1.31.404.09.exe
Am I correct if I say I need to first CID unlock my device and then just install this ROM by just running it when activesync is active? What CID unlock tool do I need, I tried some Kaiser program but that failed (by device froze).
Other info I can provide is this info that shows up when booting the device:
R 1.58.16.27
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.
First of all you need to HardSPL your device, this will almost prevent you from bricking it, follow the instructions here
Second you need to CID unlock the device, this will allow you to flash ROMs from other than the network operators own use THIS and follow the instructions. This will also SIM unlock the device, so you can use any SIM card in it.
After that connect your phone to the PC via active Sync can run the Nike_Original_NLD_ROM_v1.31.404.09.exe follow the instructions onscreen.
THIS WILL DELETE ANY DATA STORED ON THE PHONE MEMORY. Storage cards and SIM cards are not effected.
lastly, the 'R 1.58.16.27' at boot is the Radio version on the phone, this is the low level driver/s that control the cellular radio, camera etc.because you are installing and original 'stock' ROM there should not be any need to update or change this. (1.58.16.27 is the latest official radio release from HTC for the NIKI100 other are either cooked for taken from other, similar devices)
