Upgrade to fix weak radio... - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

I'm running ROM Version 1.18.255.3
Radio Version 1.03.03.10
with boot loader 1.06
I want to know if I can upgrade the Radio version to one of the newer ones. I have an HTC TyTN, unlocked, using Cingular Service. I'm just worried that if I upgrade the radio I won't get any access...any tips, or suggestions?
Yes I have read the Hermes upgrading guide, but it doesn't answer my questions.

I'd try re-reading it, and a few threads on here that have to deal with RADIO roms....

Hi sir, it would be better for you to thoroughly read the wiki and various threads on this. Having seen your ROM version etc... I would definatly recommend flashing a newer TyTN rom, the latest one available that is still in WM5 is the AKU3.3 ROM which has the newer radio rom in it aswell, you will possibly get better call reception etc.... also the ROM is a HELL of alot more stable than the one you are running now. Video playback in TCPMP/Coreplayer works with ATi Imageon turned on, and works flawlessly in rawframbuffer mode (so you can watch divx and things on your TyTN....worth it for the train)
Dont be too quick to flash it though....definatly read up on what you are doing before you go ahead. Any more questions (once you have read up ) come back here.

Alright, I was up pretty late last night reading the wiki. I'll continue to read today, and then I'll have some more questions. I've almost got it sorted, so...
Thanks alot guys for the help, as I was considering returning my TyTN, and going back to my older mobile.

:O NO WAY!!!!! you havent even touched the realms of stuff you can do with it!

Ok so heres some questions to start off with.
After reading the wiki, I kind of took myself in a loop. At first I just wanted to upgrade the Radio. It told me to downgrade to 1.04, and then I would be able to load any radio version I wanted. So I went to the downgrade page, and it said I needed the CID Unlocker. I tried to download that, however the zip is a corrupt file. If anyone has it, and could send it to me, that would be appreciated.
Now my next question is...do I need to use the CID Unlocker to be able to upgrade the ROM? Or can I just download AKU 3.3, install it, and it will flash the ROM without any problems.
Thanks!
EDIT: So I went here...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282073, to check the CID / SIM Unlocker, but it says I need to downgrade to 1.04, because I can upgrade.

Try reading: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665

I read that, and I went ahead and ran the program.
I'm still using SPL 1.06
ROM Version still 1.18.255.3
Radio has been updated to 1.16.00.00.
Reception still hasn't changed much. I'll have 4Bars to start with, and then it will drop to 2...
I also used the CID/SIM Unlocker, so I'm good to go.
That means I should be able to load AKU3.3 right? Or should I downgrade to SPL 1.04 first?

So youve unlocked the device and changed it to SuperCID. Good work.
Just run the latest AKU3.3 HTC rom (its at the top). You will get an updated radio version and the new AKU, remember to backup all your stuff and be prepared to reinstall all the settings/applications. As i said again, dont flash the rom unless you are sure you know what you are doing.

I should be good. I'm about to run it, once it finishes the download.
I just have 2 conerns...will the radio reception be any better, and 2 is it really that much better? I was looking for the "updates faq's", or what was included, but I didn't see anything.
Also the other thing, is not really a concern but more of it being tiedious, is re-entering all of the WAP, and MMS, settings...ballocks...oh well. Here goes...

If you are going to play with the TyTN like us people on here are (such as testing WM XDA-Live) you will get used to adding the MMS/GPRS settings.
There is a NOTICEABLE improvement in reception from radio version 1.27.00.00 onwards, the version in the HTC-AKU3.3 rom package is 1.34.10.00 so you SHOULD see a slight improvment. Stability is by far the best thing on that ROM.
I highly recommend downloading TCPMP and trying out some .avi files on it as it is the version with the ATi Imageon chip working as desired.
Since upgrading to radio 1.27 (and later to 1.35.00.11) the 3G reception of my TyTN has improved alot, such that i can get 3G reception downstairs where before i only got strong GSM.

Alright, the upgrade went smooth, now I just have to go and add in the MMS, and GPRS settings, so...I'll get around to that a little later.
So I have the latest ROM version, with the latest boot loader. I am a little dissapointed though. Even with the newest Radio version, it still does not pickup a signal as well as my Sony W810i did. Prehaps interference, from the bluetooth, or the Wi-Fi radios. However I don't even have those turned on. Hurm...
The OS runs alot smoother than the previous build. Now I just have to go in and tweak the settings. Everything else though seems to be nice.
About the radio. With my W810i, the signal was very strong, even when in the buildings on my college campus. However the reception from the TyTN, isn't as strong. This might end up being the breaking point...I'll keep testing it out, so we'll see.
As of right now though, I've full integrated my life into this device. I have my comlete daily schedule planned in with classes, meetings, ect. Today in class, rather than taking notes I was able to logon to the website, and download the powerpoint presentation that was being used, and used that for my notes. Gotta love having a campus that is 100% Wi-Fi.
Thanks for the help with the upgrade. I'm glad you stepped in otherwise I would have turned around and sold it, even though I've very happy with my TyTN, everything but the Radio problem though...

uh, "Latest" Boot Loader? You mean you put 1.09 on the phone? or are you talking about the RADIO bootloader? That you now have 0108?
If you put 1.09 on the phone you'll want to, IMHO, read about how to DOWNGRADE to Oli's 1.10.oli or 1.01MFG or 1.04 if you really want...
You should be able to do it with SSPL, but, I'd suggest you READ CAREFULLY this time.

Yeah its 1.09.
I'll take a look into what you just mentioned, and read up on it, now that I'm more familiar, and a little more secure with this. I was kind of worried, about flashing the rom, after reading alot of the "be careful...", or "at your own risk". So...
Obviously I will procceed with caution...
Any other pointed, tips would be appreciated. Thanks as always!

New radio ROM 1.38.00.10 (from hermes)

I've extracted the radio ROM from latest Dopod chinese ROM and packaged here as a standalone NBH radio upgrade:
HERM_RADIO_1.38.00.10_Only_SSPL.rarThis radio has HTC_BOOT 0108 and no GPS enabled.
Keep in mind that the safest procedure to upgrade your radio right now is:
Flash Hard-SPL v1.10.Oli on your phone
Flash the desired radio upgrade using the RUU package
Both steps have to be done with phone connected to computer through USB cable and activesync enabled, Des SSPL will be pushed into your phone when the RUU starts.
Remember that when flashing a radio only you don't need to hard-reset your phone, so no data will be lost.
Note: Same radio GPS enabled (from trinity) is available here
Enjoy!
Thanks pof!
Flashing now...
EDIT- Flashed 100% ok, now using with full network reception.
Will post again if there's any probs.
is it have problems when i flash this radio to my x10HT?
no, there is nothing at all special about the x10HT folks...
personally, I recommend everyone uses this one instead of the trinity radio simply because we can't have GPS anyway and for the power you're wasting on non-working chip, it's pointless.
just wanted to say thanks. i had the newest trinity rom installed earlier and this has better battery life.
thanks a lot pof
I think I'll give this one a try... Thanks!
Given my device is SuperCID, does it make sense to apply the Hard-SPL still?
I have HERM_RADIO_1.38.00.11 but I install this new radio because the previous one spent the battery to me very fast.
moving over to this, no point having the gps enabled deal!
Completely agree, until we can get the GPS on the hermes working (which is unlikely due to bricking risk) there really is no need for us to have the GPS rom from the trin.
pof! thanks man I also had the gps 11 version and i figured why not go with the 10 version as well since we wont get GPS anytime soon, i will test for a few days and report back...
Removed the Trinity 1.38 radio very quickly but initial impressions of this native Hermes ROM are far more favourable.
Not had it installed long enough to get an impression of battery life yet but reception and stability seem good so far.

Just about to take the COOK plunge but...

Hi everyone,
Just got my new 8525. No luck with it shipping with WM6 already. (I guess most of you figured that)
I have some more questions before I start messing with this. First, my current config:
HERM100 (ATT 8525)
IPL= 1.03
SPL= 1.11
When is booting from SR is says:
M 05
S 06
B 04
Radio 1.40.30.00
ROM 2.15.502.3
ROM Date 04/09/07
Protocol vs 32.73.7020.16H
I plan on using this on my ATT network and am not interested in using it anywhere other than on ATT for now so, no need to unlock SuperCID or anything like that now.
Desire: Install a BBC compliant WM6 with no BLOAT.
What I know from the Wiki and the forums:
I can install Hard-SPL and the new VPG3 Ver3 BBC Rom from VPG3. This seems to be a very stable, fast, clean ROM. Should I need to go back to bare bones stock, I read this thread and went to this site. The details are there and the step-by-step is clear and concise. I understand it and know that I can do this.
My question:
1) It says that I can revert back from HardSPL to either SPL 1.06 or 1.04 but, I have 1.11. How do I then revert back to what I have?
2) From what I understand, by reverting back to the 1.04 or 1.06, I have removed HardSPL so, in theory, I can just re-flash the OEM ROM, right? Or, is it not that simple?
3) If it is, will the OEM ROM then re-flash everything (Radio, OS, SPL, IPL, etc.)back to the OEM state prior to me mucking around with it?
4) Will my carrier be able to tell if I screwed with it?
I have done about 1 weeks worth of seaching and reading and learning before I decided to do anything. I am new to this somewhat but, I have flashed OEM ROMS before so I am comfortable. I also own an IMATE JAM that I have messed with too. The point is that I am trying to learn as much as I can on my own using existing info before bugging the community. Can never be too cautious.
I appreciate your help in advance.
Personally I would advise against it, as an 8525 owner. I've already kind of screwed mine up.
Here is what happened to mine. I installed an "official" build of wm6 on my phone after installing hardspl. The install worked fine but I found the software to be very buggy. I had to restart a lot. Then I installed a newer build. The install went ok but the software was even worse. Yesterday i tried reverting back to wm5, which i was able to do (after problems all day) but now I have all kinds of radio issues. Everything is factory on my phone except the radio version. I am going to try to send it in for warranty who knows how that will go though. If you look at the cingular forums it looks like wm6 will officially be available this month. I wouldn't risk voiding your warranty over getting a new os on your phone 2 weeks before you can officially do it. Also I might add there is not a huge difference between the 2 operating systems. comparing the 2 would be similar to comparing win95 to win 98, nothing groundbreaking
As to your questions:
I did have hardspl on my phone and was able to take it off. It took me down to 1.04. I have no clue what I had on it before, I'm assuming that may be correct though.
I haven't been able to downgrade my radio.
In theory you can reinstall the offical wm5 rom, but mine freezes at 12% when it tries to install the old radio.
While some people have had no problems, I have had a lot. From reading this board it seems hit and miss. Beware.
Thank you very much! I really just need something to run BlackBerry Connect. This, along with the elimination of the BLOAT is the only real reason I am considering this. I do appreciate your insight.

iMate JasJam -> WM6

Hi,
Hopefully someone can tell me the correct guide to upgrade my iMate JasJam from WM5 to WM6? I've read the guides, but there's so much choice I'm confused! I really don't want to brick my phone as I use it for business. I live in New Zealand so do I need to do anything else to get it working on the Vodafone NZ network?
Can someone tell me the guide I should use which will work?
iMate are useless and never released an official WM6 update.
I'm thinking of following this guide but using the Black Satin ROM. Any objections?
following that should be fine BUT first you need to sim/cid unlock your Phone and install hard SPL on it. this will make it easier to fix if something goes wrong. Both programs you need can be found at the top of the list on this part of the forum. PLEASE also read MR Vanx's guide to flashing your phone as it Will definately be beneficial. After Flashing the first 2 things onto your Hermes you can pick whatever rom you want. Black satin is an older rom but fairly stable. Good uck and happy flashing...
Ok, unlock then hard SPL first, got it.
What's newer and more stable than Black Satin then?
Pays, Schapps, these guys really know what they're doing, I personally like TNT se. Thats my preference. What you need to do is search the forum and find a rom you like. Each person likes different things and me telling you what I like may be completely different to what you want or need. Alot of roms come with 3rd party apps cooked in but if you want speed then go for a lite rom. I'm also trying out the 6.1 roms but there have been stability issues. My preference there is Faria-R32 Dr Puttingham WM6.1 HERMES ROM-CUSTOM+CLEAN. It seems to be stable for my purposes. Research and find what you like... Cheers
Sweet I'll check it out. Thanks mate.
Hmm bit confused now. Which do I run first? The unlocker or the Hard SPL?
Because in the 'HTC Hermes SIM & CID Unlock - v3a' instructions iit says "New RUU will make sure HardSPL-1.40 is installed before flashing the radio". As far as I know I don't have any HardSPL on my device at the moment. So that must mean I need to run the HardSPL first? Then the unlocker?
Also as far as HardSPL goes, there is a v9 Hard-SPL-2.60 out. Should I use that or the 2.10 - Hard-SPL-V7??
hardspl first, the sim unlocker. for version, just go with v9.
Yeah did the HardSPL first, then the SIM unlocker. The SIM unlocker actually downgraded the HardSPL to 1.4.olipro so I had to run the HardSPL to bring it back up to the other level 2.60. Weird...
Anyway I'm up and running!
Radio version is now: 1.43.00.00
ROM: Schap's 4.30
The thing I was hoping to eliminate with WM6 was the slow time it takes to dial numbers on the phone. Whenever you dial a key there's like a 1/2sec delay before it appears on the screen. I'd like it to be instant. The delay makes me think the phone is slow and it's really annoying. Anyone know if it can be fixed?

Telus P4000

Hello,
Just wondering which rom and radio to enable GPS would be the most reliable and compatible with the Telus service.
As well, does anyone know when Telus will release the official rom update? They recently released the one for the Touch , but I haven't come across any info on the P4000 version.
Hi. I am running 3.42 with DCD 3.2.5 and have had great results. DCD's Roms/kitchen are the best so far. I wouldn't hold your breath for Telus to release a ROM update for the P4000.
Choose the ROM/Kitchen that is best for you. There is nothing special about the Telus CDMA network that will cause it to perform differently than others with the available radios and ROMs. To choose, the forum already has most of the info that you are in search for.
...Only Telus knows when and if they choose to release their second update -- the first and only being for original WM 5 Titans to upgrade to one of the earliest WM 6 builds for a Titan in July 2007.

Alright, I was reading that when you flash, sometimes you have to write down the ESN and some numbers incase it gets reprogrammed. If i use these current DCD roms, will I have to mess with that or should it be work once i'm done flashing?
Also is 3.42 the bootloader or the radio? Which radiodo you use?
careful! there are two 3.42 roms. (3.42.02 and 3.42.30). the second one is far better for GPS than the first. Remember, you need to first install the olipro 2.40 unlocker, then run the Sprint 3.56/3.42.02 rom/radio combo (comes in one installer package). Then run the hard spl 1.20 unlocker to install 3.42.30. Once that is done, install the 2.40 olipro again. and you're all set

And it is simple, unspecific instructions like this that cause people to install Sprint Customizations and then moan and ***** about their phone converting to Sprint Service..
Just to clarify for anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about...
If you are installing a Sprint ROM on your non-Sprint Titan, RESET the phone before customizations run (it will be like "Running customizations in 3..2...1..." then it will do it, and it will convert your phone's settings to Sprint, which can be a nightmare)
I'm not trying to be a hardass or anything, but I just don't want another person making the same mistake that so many have made for stupid reasons in the past.
Besides, you can install the radio w/o flashing Sprint's firmware, as long as you've never flashed the radio before.

Official VZW to DCD ROM, warnings, worries?

O.K. flashing my XV6800 with the official rom recently released was the first time I flashed anything. I am now serously considering reflashing to the new DCD rom to get the GPS functional. I realize I need to flash the radio as well, but other than that I'm flying blind. I have read through the wiki and think I can do this following a decent guide.
My question is, can I follow any of the guides out there, or do I need to take special steps now that I've flashed the new VZW rom? I've found a each flashing guides that I think I can follow, but would appreciate links for noob-oriented flashing guides.
You will have to take the PRI back 1.37_002 using the RadioRefresh.cab. The "official" update changed it to not allow 3rd party GPS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421275
Is there any confirmation that this actually works for someone who has gone from the original Verizon xv6800 firmware to the MR1 firmware, without having done any other flashing that might have written values into the radio EEPROM/flash that we don't have visibility into? [I suspect this latter point is probably the source of the confusion of various tricks working for some people and not others.]
There seems to be quite a bit of confusion as to what restores the PRI and what doesn't, and whether the PRI is actually the thing that definitively controls the enablement or disablement of the standard GPS API, or whether simply something else that happens along with the PRI update might be responsible.

if you want to be a guinea pig, you can try spl 2.47 and a custom ROM. see if GPS works. im looking for the threads on this.
you can always revert to the MR1 firmware if you wish.
I've considered it, but I don't think that I want to be taking the first big step there as I don't have any extra phone aside from the xv6800, and hosing that would be a PITA.
Presently focusing on seeing if I can convince LBSDriver to return useful data with the MR1 firmware, though I'd be interested if anyone can corrobate a known working procedure for a phone that has had no custom firmwares/radios aside from the original Verizon release -> Verizon MR1 release.
To flash or not
Am I correct in assuming that if I do decide to flash, but don't like the results that I can just run the MR1 update again to get back to stock? I have read where others have said that they flash the MR1 without re-locking.

DCD I am running 2.47 SPL on my verizon 6800. What do you want me to be the guinea pig on? I am not great at this stuff, but willing to help if I can.
God knows you have helped me a lot with your rom's.

You will have to take the PRI back 1.37_002 using the RadioRefresh.cab. The "official" update changed it to not allow 3rd party GPS.

As DCD said, going back to PRI 1.35 was not necessary for me. I still have the NEW PRI 2.03_002 on my XV6800 and I can use GPS just as I did before.... Now here's what I did....
I went from DCD 3.12 --> NEW VZW upgrade. GPS didn't work so I flashed back to "stock-non-GPS rom) Then flashed the 2.47 No2chem SPL, then flashed radio 3.42.30 using SD card, and then finally DCD 3.15. No I didn't actually check then, but I did 3 days ago, and I have PRI 2.03_002 on my phone but GPS has been working just fine..... So take that for whats it's worth, but there have been a few others who have also had success using GPS even with the new GPS on the phone....

but your aGPS is still locked to VZNav i assume. any real benefit that you see of being on the new PRI?
WOW - GPS on the VZW 6800 that works!!!
This took about 2 hours to get done but right now it seems to be worth every minute.
I've tried all of the fixes, some kinda silly - felt like I was being told to sling a cat over my head in the front yard.
BUT THIS ONE GETS LOCKS AS FAST AS MY SPRINT TOUCH!!!!!
I am using 3.2.6 and the 3.42.4 radio after following the above (I have kept the new PRI).
I thought I was getting something wrong. Then I tried the GPS 5 miles apart, rebooted, tried again - same results 5 or 6 sat lock in less than 30 seconds.
I'll continue to monitor in the next couple of days and report any change. But darn - WOW!!
Finally flashed
Well I finally flashed to the DCD rom and radio today. I flashed radio 3.42.50 and DCD 3.2.6. I finally decided to flash for the GPS, but I guess that isn't gonna happen since I had previously flash the VZW MR1 update to a stock phone. I went through the titan gps fix and everything went as the wiki said it should. But I have no working gps. I assume this is because of the 2.03_002 PRI without ever having flashed before.
I've read quite a few gps threads and I think all my settings are ok, but I can't seem to get it working. Any ideas?
BENLANE, just to I understand... you upgraded to the new official VZW ROM, and then changed to DCD 3.2.6 and radio 3.40? What bootloader are you using?
Are you sure this was not a placebo?
As sure as I can be

I don't know how else to test but I've tried to make it fail - soft resets, moved around 5 miles etc. I tried it again a few minutes ago - almost instant using Live Search.
I follow all of the directions included in the post #8. Then I used DCDs 3.2.6 and the 3.42.4 radio.
Regedit
Before I follow the instruction in post #8 and re-flash, are there any registy entries that I should check that could be disabling my gps right now?
Don't think registry edits do it

Like I said above, I've done virtually everything short of slinging a cat above my head in the front yard. I've tried 'em all. The registry edits, the 3 additional files, use of the GPS toggle, etc etc. It always lead me to believe that whatever was needed was on Verizon's end. With the PRIs, I believe we have it.
Based on past experiences, this may not work tomorrow but for today - COOL RUNNINGS.
So simple answer, I don't think a registry edit will get it. I believe it is a combination of the PRIs, the unlocker, the radio and most of all the terrific ROM from DCD. He's the real deal.

I loaded the spl 2.47 and flashed the 3.42.40 radio, can I just reflash the dcd 3.2.6 (which I'm currenly using) or should I flash a differnet OS version?
Sorry for all the noob questions, I just really want the GPS working, and I'm lazy to boot.
I'm really starting to wonder if I'm gonna be able to get it working. I think my situation is different than most on this forum. I went from stock to the MR1 update, to the DCD rom and radio. I don't think I've read any posts where anyone took that path and got GPS working.

I havent read all the posts in this thread but it sounds like you locked out GPS functionality when going from the MR1 update to a custom rom. When you upgraded with the MR1 update, you installed a new version of the PRI. It appears that this version locks out GPS functionality, even with a custom rom.
You might want to check out gc's thread from hell for more info on this and how to go about getting back the old PRI. Its time consuming but works. There are supposedly other methods but not many have had success with them.
You've misunderstood

I did all of the above intentional to have the new pri on my phone.
Update on locks - still getting them fast, but they have slowed to an occasional lock in about 2.5 minutes.
GPS is working
Well my GPS works great now, all thanks to this thread.
