Ideas for Issues Thread / Bugzilla website? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

am i the only one tired of trying to keep up with the 50+ pages of the issues thread and the chatter thread??
i was thinking of setting up a bugzilla like website for the xda live ROM.... but that would defeat the purpose of everything being in one place.... moderators/administrators is there anyway of setting up a hermesbugzilla.xda-developers.com site on your servers???
or anyone have a better idea?

Tell me about it, its a bit frustrating reading the same issues over and over again - especially when they've already been answered a million times.
How can I change the keyboard to suit my 8525 again? .
I don't think it warrants a bugzilla site, perhaps another Wiki page?

or new users have to be forced to read the wiki page before they can browse the forums....

There should be a new forum that only "Senior Members" can access That way we can just ignore the n00bs

I've got no problem with noobs, its great that they're keen on learning about their device - but that word is very important, learning. People need to learn to do some research themselves before asking questions, most of them have already been answered!

its not learning.... its reading first... they try and learn before reading and they brick their devices....

Before I attempted to do a single thing to my hermes, I spent a few *weeks* reading, learning, understanding and playing so that when the time finally came to do the deed, it went flawlessly.
It is a process. You need to UNDERSTAND what you're doing, know the reason WHY you're doing it, and LEARN about the process!
If you don't want to invest the time to understand, then just don't bother--it'll save you a bricked device.

ive been playing with PDA's for 3 years... ive read more documents and more how to's... bricked and unbricked my devices i cannot begin to count... but we need a process for the new users to follow... before they can even browse the forum they need to read the wiki or something....

Could we have a private area only for people who can pass a test based on the Wiki?
Q1) You just bought a new TyTn. You want to put WM6 on it. What is the FIRST thing you should do?
a) Download Des' SSPL RUU
b) Carefully read the Wiki and all related threads
c) Use Pof's version 3 unlocker to SuperCID your device
d) Download XDA-Live and run the upgrade program
I'm guessing that a lot of n00bs can't figure out the right answer to the above... It's multiple choice. What's YOUR answer?

Yeah, but, I've had PDA's for as long as PDA's existed.. My first one was a Palm Pilot 5000 (3Com's version of it). I got it about 2 weeks after it was released.
I've owned PPC's for about 3+years, and am an MCSE (so, I understand the technology inside the version of Windows it uses pretty well).
I read for a while before joining; but, quite frankly, I didn't have a reason to join here before I did--the 8525 didn't exist until about a week before I bought it!

If we didn't brick devices, the senior's wouldn't be developing unbricking techniques which allow us to do much more.
If we sensor, test or discriminate then we lose the purpose of this forum (maybe even become like Microsh*t). How would Pof, Olipro, Kyphur etc have become members if they hadn't been able to ask the questions which helped teach them their skills.
The main reason there are so many repeat or dumb questions out now is because there have been so many new tools and Roms released in such a short time. This will settle down as development slows.
Maybe the best way round this is to put a front screen to all the forums giving a very brief guide how to use the Wiki and search facility. I'd also include a statement that any question which have been asked and answered before will be deleted and that the poster needs to research the question. This message could also be linked to show on a posters screen for each of his first 5 posts so he couldn't bypass the warning/advice.
Just my opinions, but I hate sensoring and eliteism (don't let the dummies ask ME questions), particularly when the sensors have benefitted from the source they are sensoring.

i wasnt talking about sensoring... just preaching the knowledge before you make a choice to flash or cook or play with roms....

Its not the fact that questions are asked - questions are good!
Its the fact that people make no effort to research and find out the answers for themselves before asking it. How many times has "How do I fix the keyboard on my 8525", "How do I enable GPS", "How do I flash this ROM", etc - when the answers are all there, easy to find.

Maybe an alternative would be to have 3 levels of each forum, Jumior, member and senior...
Juniors could only post in junior forum but could read all 3,
Members could post in member and junior forums and read all 3
Seniors could post and read all 3.
Any member or senior who posts too many 'dumb' threads could be warned and possibly bumped down a level by the mods.
This way anyone can help people less experienced, and the less experienced can learn from everyone by reading. Any posts you make will be to your peers but may be answered by your seniors.
Also, the likes of Kyphur and Olipro who are actively developing can ask questions and get answers from the people with the most experience.
I still don't like this too much because there is no reason for more senior members to read junior forums, but it does leave the whole forum accessible to all and puts the emphasis on juniors to ask and answer questions to gain knowledge and thus get 'promoted'.

Why does every forum end up with this debate? Cos its human nature...
People get excited about flashing new roms to their devices and go ahead and do it and then panic when their beloved gadget doesn't work properly...
Yes - people should read the wiki before a) doing stuff and b) asking question but if everyone behaved exactly the way they "should", the world would be a really boring place.
I personally made sure that I read up before flashing WMXL1 and 2 - they were my first xda flashes - but I understand why loads of people dont. Yes repeat questions are annoying, but in some cases they are asked again because the answer given is too high-brow for the noobs to understand...
Oh and its "censor" !

For bugs and enhancements tracking my personal favorite is Jira. Very widespread among open source and commercial projects. They have a Community & Open Source License model where you can get it for free ...
http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/

don't agree - don't like it - should'nt do it !
How do you judge who is a noob and who is not? and who does that?
What criteria will be used?
We are opening up a big and unnecessary debate here.
Actually with all stupid questions on this site, we do actually learn from each other at ALL levels.
This is what make this site an unbelievable success.

Unlocking 8525

Hello all, I am needing to unlock an AT&T 8525 to use on T-Mobile's network.
Can anyone give me some cliff notes? Mainly just differences. I have unlocked and reflashed quite a few MDAs so I am just looking to see whats different on doing this to a newer phone. I would imagine lokiwiz.bat wouldn't be used for this? What is the OEM radio? Is there an official WM6 ROM available?
Thanks in advance!

When you search, or read anything, you may find people being more co-operative. Posting a new thread is very likely to get you flamed!
Since the 8525 is a Hermes in a coat, unlocking is going to be the same as any other Hermes based device. It doesn't take a rocket scientest to work that out!
Stickies are there for a reason! - If you'd looked through the first 5 threads in the forum you posted this in, you'd have found what you needed, and then, if you had an issue with that because you couldn't be asked to read the post, then you could have posted in that thread!!!
Or, as someone else did, you could have PMed someone - including me!, asking for clarification on the wiki page.
To be honest with you, I don't think posting in a thread 100 pages long yields great results based on my past experiences with XDA. Maybe that's just the Wizard section though...
I get what you are saying but I don't think you are getting what I am saying. I read plenty. I am seeing a lot of terms and processes that don't seem the same that I am used to so I was just looking for opinions. If you want to cripple your "section" of this forum by not letting someone asK for some opinions then so be it. I am not just some n00b logging in asking "hey how i unlock dis fone i got today?"

[INFO] Request & WARNING to all New Members

Hi,
First of All Welcome to the greatest HTC Development portal panel. Enjoy your stay but please follow the rules while you are here:
1. Search before you post. There is no point in asking the same question if it has already been answered. This is not a support portal, rather it is a portal for developers where developers share their knowledge and experience to the benefit of themselves as well as the ever growing HTC community. So if same question is asked again and again, be prepared to get flamed.
2. Respect other members:- this is essential for a thriving community portal. Do NOT use bad or abusive langauage.
3. Do NOT post any warez / crack / pirated softwares. This is not a portal to share illegal software, it you post any or give link to any such site / file your post will be reported to the Mods and you will face immediate ban. If any of you find any such post, please click on the '!' icon on top left to report such post.
4. Give the developers/chefs/skinners a break, they are not here selling you a product or service, they are just sharing your creations with you and YES there may be bugs in it, you can request them for certain stuff, but please don't demand.
5. If you are posting something, that is not your own creation, please mention the original author or post a link to the original post.
6. Before flashing your Gene please go through the Tutorial Stickey by krazy_about_technology.
7. Do not create duplicate post, ask a question only once. There is no point asking the same question over and over again.
8. Mind Your Language. This is a public forum and not a private forum, so mind the language you are using.
9. Please do not reply to useless and unnecessary threads like - I bricked my Vox after running hspl.exe, if you are really ichy to reply, just post a link to the tutorial stickey.
10. Share the knowledge: Share your knowledge, new findings, new tweaks etc with the community. Please understand that if other members did not replied to your queries, you will not be in the position that you are today - knowledge wise atleast. A lot of users have been seen that after starting a thread has finally signed off by saying ok, I got it working. But let the users of the forum know how did you get it working.
11. Do not clutter the forum / threads. Post your replies in subsequent threads. Do not post replies in non relevant threads. Like discussing issues of krazy's or ankit's or lomlom's ROM in the Upgdate tutorial thread (unless you have bricked your device in the process of updating one of the ROMs). Or post query / information about one ROM in another ROM's thread. Keep the threads clean and RELEVANT.
12. COMPLETE YOUR PROFILE . Its a very basic courtesey to let people know basic details about yourself, nobody is going to track you down to your home. You are interacting with fellow members every so often, so atleast they should know from you are from, it may actually help you in solving your issues faster.
This is not a preaching or something, just a guideline so that we can keep our forum neat and clean; all the suggestions has been assimilated after viewing General forums. If you have an issue, please see my favourite post in my siggy (BTW not posted by me, but one of the mods)
Thanks for keeping the forum clean (Or get ready to be flamed),
Just saw another post about "Bricking", looks like pple love to get flamed! and if you do get flamed, it won't be worth reporting to mods, since it is not a support site .
A request to all experience users, if you see a noob or other user asking for a certain information already there in the forum, please DO NOT give him /her the information in that thread, simply give him / her a link, they need to read the forum properly. And this way we will have less and less useless threads.
Lets keep our forum neat and clean.
I go even a step further and don't respond to such guys That way, they either try to find their own way by reading or go away and relieve us from further headaches lol

Yeah, I know some Senior users are rude, or rather they become rude by replying same questions over and over again. But we need to keep our forum clean don't me.
BTW I know whom you are talking about. That person is amazing, nobody shares knowledge like he does (well except one other guy). Basically what I am trying to point out is if we keep on replying to these lazy pple on the thread they have created, they will take it for granted. Instead let them search and get a solution.
When I joined this forum (Gene, not Vox), the forum was nearly barren, I hope a lot of you will remember, there was not even a thread for tutorial, yet I found solutions about upgrading my gene by using the hspl from one post and the ROM from another post!
So my point is read Read READ!
@everyone:
if you think I am going over the top, read my favourite post in my siggy.
Completly agree with you Addicted2XDA Although i came to this forum to be a leecher like i did for many symbian forums when i was using that Nokia [email protected] (in my personal openion only), i found out that its actually not a Pirate Shop like many symbian forums where ppl just post software cracked by cracking groups, which i wont mention here but most of us must be knowing them already
XDA was different, people were mostly developers so there was an oppertunity to learn so much about the platform that i was waiting to get my hands on for last so many years. Moreover, No ROM which was only one at that time) on the forum was satisfying my need as i need Windows Live in my day to day use. So i decided to dive deeper and build a ROM for meself. AndHere came the Angel, Ramerson, with his fantabulous kitchen and a good heart too, to help people like me with their naive adventures in this wonderful world. And rest is history now
Also apart from my personal needs, i was feeling that the GENE community is somewhat not taken care of by anyone, reason for that maybe because in some countries its a very old phone. But for me, this phone is special, no matter in future i get a Touch Diamond 2 or whatever GENE got me into this WinMo bandwagon and i really have a place for it in my heart. Thats why i decided that no longer will people starve for good WM 6.1 Gene ROMs in this forum. May be i was destined to do it Anyways, now i am quiet happy that people have good choices.
And people like Ankit360 are even taking the efforts futher with WM 6.5. I will too work on it when it releases, but the things that Ankit is doing right now, are really worthy. He is a very nice guy too, and he was the person who was online for hours while i was patching my SPL. i was so scared to do it, has not he been online, i wouldn't have touched it. The method was also published by him originally. I just took it and made it a cosmetically better looking tut thread. I thought that Ankit was there when i needed it, but how many people can have that privilege? So, the Sticky to Unlocking and Flashing was born.
Its been about 4-5 months since i first came here, and the journey has been delightful. I am now diving into some application programming also with .NET and will try to design utilities for day to day problems. I am not having a permanent income source as of now, thats why i haven't donated to this forum, but whenever i'll get one, you'll see "stars" growing besides my name, if you know what i mean
That's what i like to say to everyone coming here. Take whatever you want and can from this forum, it has a big heart for everyone. But do take care to not mess it up and help in keeping it a great place for everyone to enjoy. Its not necessary that you should make ROMs or Software, but the kind of help that Addicted, Hari and many others do is also extremely valuable for the forum.
I hope somebody is listening to all this
i have put a thread yesterday

Actually I was talking about the full hardware keyboard of the TP2 (Yeah, i know i go insane when i see a physical qwerty keyboard ). Its really convenient for mailing, you should agree . In my personal opinion, the difference between a physical keyboard and an on screen keyboard is sort of like the difference between a TVSE Champ and a TVSE Gold .
And like you, Vox will always have a special place in my heart, since it was the first wm device for me.
Yeah, i do value the hardware keyboard, specially after i have experienced one of my friend's SE Xperia, works marvelously well, specially when i write programs in pocket c#, as well as messaging and email.

[Q] rules of thumb?

While there are many reasons one might want a smartphone, my chief reason for wanting an android smartphone was ideological: software should be free/ capable devices shouldn't be hobbled/ users' right to understand and control their devices, etc. I'm a total n00b in the scheme of things, but I've been trying to gradually gain an understanding of how everything works, and (for me) screwing things up is often the best to learn. The vibrant was an excellent choice for me, I've had it since the end of summer and have been having a lot of fun seeing what I can do with it while following the dev community here. So after flashing lord knows how many roms/kernels/modems etc in the past few months with mixed results (some went smoothly as anticipated, others not so much lol), this is the big question on my mind: What rules of thumb can help me avoid being a n00b forever?
In the threads about almost all roms/kernels, there are countless "KTHX DUDE IS THIS SAFE TO FLASH OVER XXXXXXX THAT I'M RUNNING???? AND EVEN THO THIS POST IS 39 SECONDS OLD, HOW IS BATTERY???"
Not that i'm even allowed to post in the vibrant android dev forum atm, but when I am, I don't wanna be that guy. So, other than trial by fire or waiting to see how more intrepid members have fared, how do you figure out the answer to that question? I'm assuming system build (i.e. KA2/KB1/etc...not sure if that's what to call it) has something to do with it, as well as filesystem configuration...but that's not specific enough for me to establish anything other than that I should really make a nandroid backup JIC...
Any helpful rules of thumb? I know getting a better understanding of the system in general is the REAL answer, but i figure this is a start right here ;x
Thanks in advance!
Nico
Read everything you can before posting questions!
Try and solve the problem yourself. For me the fun of modding your phone is in the process, not the end result. (I think of the result as a reward for my work)
Find joy in using your knowledge before crying for help.
Post mature, concise, intelligent and grammatically correct responses.
Don't demand or expect help, this forum is a privilege.
HAVE FUN. If something is a chore to you, it begs the question "Why am I even doing this?".
Lastly, respect fellow forum members! We're all here for the same reason.
There isn't a book you can read that will transform you from a noob to a 1337hax0r overnight. It takes years of learning and practice to become a developer, but if you're patient and not annoying, you will still be respected here.
Also I see alot of people asking the same questions over and over. To kinda check to see if the question you want to ask has been asked just take a little time and use the search function for the thread. You will be surprised.
Like joey and tc said. Before I joined the forums I lurked and lurked for months just reading all the stickies, checking all the questions being asked and scanning the rom threads for useful info. You never want to be the battery question guy or the disable voodoo person.
I'm still building my "street cred" here before I start a question thread. If you see a new guy asking a question, try and help out. point them to the answer with a smile. Most of all have fun.

[Q] Request to mods...

Sadly enough there is much chat in threads.
Even a comparison about the Arc and X10 in a thread about a mod.
Would it be possible to just remove posts that are really off-topic?
15 pages for a thread with <10 really on-topic posts
that's an awful lot of time spent sifting through threads and threads full of crap...
I completely agree. Please somebody do something about this. Start giving out bans. The ratio of crap to actual development talk is at least 10-1. It seriously hinders the ability of the forum to facilitate collaboration on the projects being done.

i've been on xda for quite some time, and i will admit that the x10 forums are the biggest cluster of useless banter, repetitive topics/questions and un-uniformed threads.
however, this is not the mods faults. there are posts for rules, and outlines for thread title structures and thread behavior. however, it seems that a lot of the x10 owners have a hard time following these rules and guidelines.
i can't imagine how anyone new to the game could come here and follow anything as far as learning how to mod their x10.
Just a hint: This might be more effective if it was in the correct forum.

True. I am just trying to make the point that there is a lot of both going on. (It seems you got my point...it's borderline hypocrisy)

I must count myself as someone who may not be following all the rules. After following the forums for 6 months and having rooted, xrecovery, tweaked build.prop as well as flashing and bricking two phones, I am finding it hard to move onto a newer rom.
The search function on XDA seems to rely mostly on tags. I get better results trying Google. Only 1 of 5 XDA searches even returns any results at all and often not confined to the subforums I wanted. When posting I do check the suggestions that the system shows as related but again it is inaccurate.
Finally the devs have moved to a short form install which has more steps than in the past. At first we had all inclusive roms which updated baseband and 'firmware'. Now we have many that are parts; baseband and firmware can be independent installs. Dual touch can be separated or not. On top of this we have the roms which have the SE apps or not, other OEM apps or interfaces or themes pre-installed. It's confusion for everyone.
The threads started several versions of some of the roms earlier and many posts do not have a relationship anymore to the current version. It's time to trash the thread and start anew with a locked sticky that has only the instructions and current links.
While the devs have made great strides with the instructions, I believe most of the readers here want as few steps as possible without branches and a return to the all-inclusive roms would simplify life for most people instead of trying to figure out what the baseband or preinstalling dual touch or a newer generic SE rom as a prerequisite is needed to get to the rom that we are trying to install.
JMHO.

By far the best way to search is going to Google and using "site:http://forum.xda-developers.com X10 Blah blah blah". I don't even bother with the xda search anymore.

I'm not trying to be a ****, but this is xda-developers, not xda-"cool **** for your phone". This is a place for development, and while the community is here to help everyone learn, people get the priorities wrong. There is a time and place for questions (In the Q&A section), and it's NOT the dev threads.
Threads in "Android Development" should be just that; It really hurts everyone when the ROM threads get filled with "How do I flash this?" and "Where's the download for X?". It's not the dev's duty to hold the hand of everyone who doesn't know what xRecovery is. I've installed nearly every ROM for the X10, and I'm sorry, but if you can't figure out how to do it, you shouldn't be in the Android Development forum in the first place.
There are a million threads on how to root, JIT, and flash custom ROMs, yet we still see new "HOW TO SPEED UP UR EXPERIA!!!" and "I want this rom, HOW?" threads every day. It's crazy that people can't read the stickies and ask in the correct forum. The post count restriction for dev forums was a start, but I think we see far too few bans for outright disregard for devs and the forum rules.
This is all JMHO, of course, but I'm sure I'm not alone in these sentiments.

I am glad notice is being taken of the sad trend in some of the xda-developers.com forums. I would humbly like to suggest that a 'report this' tag is included on threads for members to indicate to 'mods' that a particular comment is starting a 'flame war.' Habitual 'flammers' and obnoxious behaviour can then be quickly identified and appropriate action taken against them.

I apologise there is indeed a report 'triangle' but it is rather inconspicous and easily missed. It will be great it is elevated to the same format as the 'Thanks" or 'Qoute' buttons
What's even worse than spam in threads? Threads made *****ing about it.

This contradicts what you've said the in the first segment, we're here to learn, and you can only do that with all the language differences here when clear instructions are listed. Forums/websites all around the world, such as Android Central, Gizmodo/Engadget etc., all point readers to here for many handsets. XDA is NEWS as much as anything else.

I do understand your frustration with users both personally and professionally- they're a PITA. Unfortunately users are what programmers have to cater to- as cool as something might be as a developer- if it's unusable in a practical way, it's only instructional. If XDA's only for learning there's no need here for device specific forums or even posting roms, just post the code snippets that needed modification to get version x.y.z to work; then we can all make our own variant, after all the android SDK is free and was one of the original ways to sideload a app onto any phone. All of us devs have an Eclipse IDE, etc. only post code to compile and that will keep out the riffraff.
XDA doesn't have a Quality-Assurance group to validate posts or the qualifications of the devs or the roms they present or the instruction sheet. I'm sort of personally suspicious of just putting anything on my phone, as where better to hide something than in a rom, and Android already (as well as GSM itself) have enough security issues. Some of the install instructions have been very vague, and if you, as a dev, know the files you want everyone to try, are not xRecovery compatible or require a particular version of the FlashTool or root or whatever, say so upfront. While "I" know 435 is LATER than 453, 497 and 504, not everyone is familiar with all the x10 roms or knows to go to PTCRB to check which ones end in those numbers; therefore, post the entire firmware and baseband number and avoid that question. RTFM is a very old catchphrase that doesn't apply here since there is no manual since you're writing the manual NOW.
I personally support the locking of the dev threads with links to roms to anyone but the OP. Maybe there should be a "Enduser Firmware to Try" subforum which is readable by all, but only postable by mods/devs with firmware of a high enough quality and the ability to support end-users. I've bricked two phones before there was a way to debrick them that worked.
If devs want money or beer or free space in the cloud that's in my name, be upfront, be clear, be helpful and some percentage of the folks here will reward you just as they would pay DaVinci Wotan, Unlockitnow, et al.

No it isn't, and no it doesn't. There can be room for both (development / learning), but people don't seem to understand the boundaries of either.
I'm not here to argue, just stating my opinion.

ICS, root and the usb jig

So, I'm going to wait until the official ICS update appears for my SII. (supposedly 19th of March)
However, I still want root without flashing a custom kernel. (not wanting to increment the custom flash counter)
My understanding is that if I update to the official ICS update then the usb jig becomes useless in resetting the counter. Is that correct?
The current method I used to root was via superoneclick, however.. that no longer works with ICS right?
If for example I wanted to reset the counter (if I did use a custom kernel for root) could I downgrade from the official ICS back to GB (using odin) and then use the usb jig to reset it?
NB. I use root for titaniumbackup, adaway and lbe privacy guard.
About half of what you've written is incorrect, and you can find the correct information from a little bit of searching and reading.

Huh, that's the second post I've seen of yours that is entirely unhelpful.
You can only do so much searching and this sub-forum is called "Q&A"...
AFAIK you don't need to flash a GB Rom to make usb jig work you can just flash an old bootloader and usb jig should work like a charm after that
You got that response because this question is answered several times a day on here. And the answer can be easily found with a few minutes legwork. XReal is correct. You can flash the old bootloader & a jig will work. So it looks like you've got a bit of research/searching (to find said bootloader) to do.

Still, there was no need for it. A better response would have been to either choose not to respond or post with a link to a post answering the questions. XDA has been getting a very bad reputation because of posts like the above. (hell I've been a lurker on here for quite a while opting instead to read information and posts rather than posting because of the above)

There's even a sticky in general saying don't create ice threads...people still do it
This is a development forum, not a spoonfeed n00bs & lazy people whatever they demand forum. And it certainly isn't a democracy. If people want to gain anything from their time here, they need to read & learn.
People who don't like that can go to Sammobile for all I (and a lot of people here) care.

Sure, people are posting ICS threads in general. Sure, there are people who are a bit ignorant but nothing is achieved by being rude. If it's been said a million times then don't post, let the thread die rather or until a mod locks it.
As to the bad rep, yep.. it's definitely because of people saying "use search" or "noobs". If you like I'd be perfectly happy to provide some examples? (oops, can't post urls at the moment until I've hit 8 posts)
There is a level of people keeping up with information and using search. And people who don't keep a constant watch on threads. (hence my post, I can't say I'm too enthusiastic about trawling through endless posts.. I did a bit of reading and searching, wasn't 100% sure so I thought I'd post in a question and answer sub-forum)
Anyway, I've derailed my own thread enough. xReal gave me the confirmation I was after.

its got nothing to do with that at all
Like i said, its because people refuse to search, refuse to read and refuse to educate themselves. Everyone just wants spoonfeeding.
Why do people insist on opening a new ICS thread when they could just ask their question in an existing thread? Theres plenty of them....it because people WONT search - they want the answer there and then like its something they deserve

To be fair, search is pretty bad unless you know the exact terms to search for. And reading through threads can often span a significant number pages. People see those gigantic threads and can only read so much before they become either frustrated or disillusioned.
Pretty often I've just resorted to using google site search because it gives better results than the inbuilt site search. This is a problem endemic of all large forums.
Of course there are poorly worded, poorly thought out posts where the person has not read or searched. But nothing is ever achieved by jumping up and down whilst screaming about noobs and demanding they use search. In less time than it took to post about noobs and using search a reply could have been formed linking to a thread with the answer or simply it could have been left to die with all the chaff posts.

OR, if they read up themselves, they wouldnt have to wait for an answer or get flamed from other users...it works both ways.
The only reason you are seeing so many 'use the search function' posts is because these inane threads with questions that have already been asked ans answered pop up more now than any other kind of thread...put it this way....i no longer come to this forum to garner knowledge/info/mods/techniques or anything like that anymore, i just come here to see what other useless threads have been created and what the responses were to said thread...its becoming entertaining as well as frustrating (theres also a reason why a lot of oinkylicious' recent posts contain the copied pasted section from the forum rules:
1. Search before posting
If people aren't doing this, then they are breaking forum rules and should be given a 'vacation'

Again, if people weren't so eager to be so rude this site would be much less frustrating for everyone involved. Case in point look at the tag added to this thread or oinkylicious' post. Not helpful to anyone in the least.
If someone can't contribute to a thread in a useful manner then don't post. The post rate is of a relatively high ratio that it'll quickly disappear into the ether.
And again, people can only do so much searching and reading. As you yourself said the site search is pretty bad and posts can often span a significant number of pages making reading up nigh on impossible unless you spend an inordinate amount of time obsessing over everything. You can't expect people to know everything.
I promised an example url earlier. Since I'm still not at 8 posts, I'll post it without the "http://" and hope the filter doesn't pick it out: pay.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/pse0m/rant_about_xda_short_and_angry_but_bear_with_me/

Bunch of whiny users in that link you posted. And the important word here is 'users'.
You, like a lot of people are clearly under the misapprehension that XDA is a users forum. It is not. It is a development forum where users are tolerated provided certain 'rules' are adhered to by said users.
On XDA, developers come first, second, third, fourth, fifth and seventh. People who are prepared to read, learn and put in a bit of effort beyond searching for 20 seconds & throwing their hands in the air because they can't find something come sixth. And people who demand everything to be given to them on a silver platter don't figure into the equation whatsoever.
And your criticisms are completely invalid in the case of the question you asked, the answer is easily found in a minute in spite of XDA's crappy search facility (anyone who has been here more than 5 minutes knows to use Google with XDA appended to search terms). Why ? Because it's asked on here several times a day.
You can keep on digging a hole for yourself if you want tho.

Maybe but this is a developers forum not a fix my phone forum .
Search may well be hard but as 90% of troublesome posters dont even bother to read the stickies faqs or guides dont mind reading the posts on the page they post on why should they be helped .
You asked

Its been asked multiple times their is even a post covering the topic .

Yet another question that has been answered multiple times .
Noobs come on here and get help all the time but their is a massive uprising by those that actually take the time to help against the ones that totally ignore the rules and demand everything dumped in their lap . If you where one of a few you would have got an answer but you are one of many sadly for this forum and its getting worse day by day .

If you can't address the points and complain about "whiny users" and so forth then why are you replying?
If this site was dedicated to purely developers then there would be a number of things for said developers. Namely things like an instance of bugzilla or other software for bug tracking and git (or something else like cvs *spit*) repositories for development to ensure versions and code submitting are kept on top of.
The fact that there are Q&A, Accessories etc sub-forums rather than just forums for development only counters your assertion.
Honestly, who is digging the hole? The ones who use Ad hominems and fail to address a single point or the ones raising the criticism?
You keep replying, so surely something I'm saying is quite valid.
A quick example of what a former mod classes this forum as;
link
Yes searching is in the rules and needs to be complied with, the problem most with non searchers is that they make the search harder as people search same thing and get another useless post asking the question and not the informative answers that they want.........!
