So in general we can install any rom including G3 only.
In general the probabilty of bricking is with the wrong IPL SPL and nothing else, RIGHT?
as i understand it the shell tool only installs the os not the ipl spl or radio rom
so will not be bricked by using it
i have used the shell tool countless times with g3 roms and g4 with no trouble

i have up graded my 4g from 2.16 to 2.26 and than use flash rom but device stuck now i want to come back to ipl spl 2.16 but could not work i have done almost every possible method to retreave my device but nom success can any body help
G4 shouldn't need it's bootloader flashing, I do not know of any ROMs that contain G4 bootloaders so chances are if you flashed a new bootloader you flashed a G3 bootloader (IPL/SPL) and have now bricked (in the true sense) your phone permanently. Perhaps you could elaborate on what OS, IPL and SPL versions were before and what ROM you tried to flash and what versions you now have.
i use boot loader 2.26 previous was orignal imate 2.16 phone was crashed when flashing by shell tool rom wizad love 2.26
I was just thinking about the whole IMEI-CHECK website... Is there any way to build a program that based on IMEI, can generate the unlock file for the program used by IMEI-CHECK?
Here is the G4 WIZARD unlock program provided on their website for people to take apart and disect to see if you can figure out how to make a program to generate the unlock file based on IMEI.
I know warez are frowned on here and this is why I only posted the program which can be downloaded here but technically the program is freeware, it's the unlocking service that isn't free and thats what we're trying to fix.

right now i'm flashing with Softspl , and no problems - i'm happy with it ! .
Yes I was using SoftSPL for a few days but since then I got a handset exchange and was gifted with a G3 which got CID unlocked as soon as I put my battery in it.
I am just thinking about it because I used to have a G4 and SoftSPL is simple and almost the exact same thing as stand alone RUU, it even calls the RUU when it is time so it is even the same number of clicks but it just isn't the same thing... I don't have to worry about any of it at all. I can flash happy from one custom rom to the next and never even think twice(is this gonna mess up my phone?) I just don't even have to think about it since even my IPL/SPL can be changed. All available roms are now safe for me to just run the Ruu and be good to go.
I think that is why it would be nice to see a way to permanantly CID unlock so that you COULD change the IPL/SPL and not have to worry about permanently bricking your phone if you accidently flash a rom with the wrong IPL/SPL.

What CID-unlocking in G4 gives is completely the same with SSPL.

Alright, I have a cid/sim locked tmobile MDA G4. I originally used the soft spl to install the latest TNT. I installed it and everything was working great and then I noticed the Hard SPL. I went and installed that... Problem is that now that I put that on there anytime I try to flash back to one of the base roms like the tmobile or wizard love it gives me a crazy error. It tells me error 300, not supported or something to that effect. Any ideas? I want to get a clean rom before I try to go to anything else when a newer version comes out...

You shouldn't try to update ROM's with IPL/SPL after HARD SPL.
Reverting to a "clean ROM" is not necessary because old one will be erased during upgrade.
If you want to update IPL/SPL for G4 after hard SPL, do as following:
-disassemble ROM with IPL/SPL of your liking
Usage: typho5.exe -x nk.nbf
-reassemble the ROM or IPL/SPL with NKnbftool.
Make shure you only use G4 IPL/SPL for your G4, those are the IPL_2 and SPL_2 files created by typho5.exe.
-copy the nk.nbf you just created to SOFT SPL
-start Soft SPL and flash the IPL/SPL.
You will lose the hardSPL though!

use WST for the same purpose as you don't need command line instructions.
If you're still interested in typho5.exe then install WST and look for it in the program's folder...

Why? Do you have trouble reading? It's all explained in each release thread on the first 3/4 posts...

for those of you who dosen't really know what this does.
follow the procedure (soft SPL then hard SPL) and you would never ever need any extra steps before upgrading to wm6.
EDIT: Okay I made it easier. I made a batch file to do the work. (Soft SPL then Hard SPL)
just run the Upgrade_SPL.bat from your PC. It will do the Soft and Hard SPL

Rom update launched from WindowsMobile synchronised with ActiveSync with patched RUU for Wizard.
My Prophet seems to be reconized by the RUU like a Wizard but upgrade work.
Finally :
Perfect job Prislav it work like a charm, our Prophet are now like other recents HTC devices. It rock : only 10minutes to flash a ROM with special SplashScreen

Flash just finished, all is ok Prislav, you are the BOSS

I just tried this, and it's amazing! I tried flashing my Original ROM and it worked. Even the SPL was updated. The only thing that it didn't change was IPL. If you broke your phone and have warranty, this is THE easiest way to get the Vendor ROM back. I would even venture to say this is the best tool yet for Flash-a-holics. Thank you so much!

Can a G4 be bricked? I was under the impression that the G4 was unbrickable. All the bricks I've ever heard of were G3 devices. I mean one can get stuck at bootloader and the like, but I've always got my phone back. Even had a Wizard ROM on there, and even that didn't brick it (although that time I thought it was toast!)! Like zeroed said, it will help you get your SPL back if you have that problem, and I think it's just an amazing tool for flashing in general.

I just need to be totally shure about this.. If i run this hard spl thingy patch on my G4 prophet i do not need to downgrade to wm5 everytime i want to try a new wm6 rom, if i currently are using a wm6 rom ?
And how do you guys flash a wm6 rom with the RUU utility ? I haven't seen any WM6 rom yet using RUU..

You wont need upgrading to wm5 - i recommend that you never flash full roms to avoid spl reflashing after hard-spl. the best practice will be to use nb2nbf to generate nbfs for your os, splash and gsm separately
Wait a second. Why should we avoid SPL reflashing after HardSPL??? I already flashed back to my original SPL and re-flashed HardSPL without any problem. What is the danger of doing this?

You've propably flashed a rom that includes IPL/SPL on a G4 Device.

this fix is quite easy.
Just download a original rom for your device. Search the forum.
you can also try KhanX Extended ROM
small 10mb so it does not take long to flash.

As xecutionkrk said, try to flash with your original stock ROM, it may be possible to restore the IPL and SPL version.
If that doesn't to the job, then it is another type of brick.

It's impossible to flash a rom on a device which has mixed (G3/G4) IPL/SPL.
Due to block-size differences between G4 DoC and G3 DoC (Disk on Chip) the device is unable to write.
OK, learnt from that.
However why is it possible to write G3 SPL to G4...

Thats for if you are stuck on bootloaders with the same G4 IPL/SPL to recover back to normal,but not to not to recover from a 'Bricked' phone due to a mixed G3/G4 ipl/spl.

Because the already loaded SPL is the correct one, and it will write the incorrect G3 SPL with the right blocksize to the DoC.
After reboot the new bootloaders are being utilized for the first time, and then the troubles begin, the "new" G3 SPL will be read correctly, but is unable to read or write to the DoC.
JTAG* would be the only solution to solve this problem.
*JTAG for HTC wizard is NOT available (-no known test points, no real datasheets for omap 850 in order to find these test points, no real omap850 datasheets available for timings and commands in order to succesfully communicate).
