Is it possible to create folders in an Extended ROM image? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hello,
For my new ROM I was working on creating apps which could be directly run from Extended ROM, but the thing is that my programs need subfolders (where should be located resource files) and I didn't find how to create subfolders in an extended ROM image.
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to create folders in an Extended ROM image, if yes then how to do it?
Thanks a lot.

Yes it is possible, you may do so by exploring via activesync or by file explorer on yr PDA.
Of course, your extended ROM has to be unlocked before you do either.

But what I would like is not to modify my Extended ROM but to create an Extended ROM image that I could package with my ROM.
At least you confirm that it's practically possible to create folders in extended ROM!

I have a SuperCID phone with the ExtROM unlocked and unhidden using HTweakC. I can create sub-directories/folders at will. No problem.

Yes but as I said, I would like to do it in an extended ROM image, not on my phone.
Or... is it possible to create folders in extended ROM on my phone without SuperCID and to dump the extended ROM on my PC?

That is what I was thinking... build it on the phone and then dump it.

By Unlocking & Unhidding it, erasing the contents (or part of them if u want) and using it as an "extra" storage space.

No if you don't know the consequences this will have after a hard reset. Yes if you know what you are doing.
I wouldn't recommend doing that if you have a microSD card available.
what would you advise regards installing .net framework 2 into the extended ROM ?
Also I used fit5cat Hermes tweaker, so I can see the extended rom, not sure which of those other steps I still need to install to the extended ROM.

I haven't tried it.... but I think you should better install it on the main memory or the SD card when possible.

Does it unlocks the ExtROM or just unhides it ? Try if you can copy a normal file there using the explorer.
What about moving some .dll files to Extended ROM? Bad Idea? MemMaid gives you this option, and one big one is HTC3GVT.dll which takes up 1.6MB of memory, but I can imagine that you would not advise trying to move this to Extended ROM?

yes, version 4.91. do a search on threads about blackberry and athena words.
Yes, there was a guy that got it working. I think he even got it working on the latest Athena Project ROM by PK. Just an FYI...not sure if the ROM had anything to do with it or not.

Here you have:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1420252&postcount=302
you have to extract from the rom the os.nb, with nbextract. Later do the edit of the file looking for the HTC-Athena and change into HTC-Hermes. Next step is introduce this file in your Athena, do a hard reset and job done.

Thanks for that. Only problem (and I may be really thick here) is that I can't find NBExtract or any of the other tools I need to do the job. I think I will wait for the time being before going to WM6. Being a noob at Rom hacking (but fairly technical generally) i think I need a little more info before i take a working wm5 Athena and hope I can get it working on WN6 with Blackberry connect

I guess this means unlocking the device in order to flash it, unless you use your own CID's image. Has anyone flashed an HTC branded device? If so, could you be kind enough to upload the resulting ROM that includes BBC?
Thanks.

It's very risky to share this class of files. And modificate a rom is very easy, you should try it. It is not difficult.
Where to find the tools?

well not exactly, but i don't think this is the problem but you can try to add it and see if it works
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\ENCFilt]
"EncryptByDefault"=dword:0
this is also from xip.bin

Thanks for the file, but I don't have the tools to make a dll-file out of it. Encfilt.dll is referenced both in registry and in deviceencryptionpolicy.dll so I suppose it must be in the windows directory to make things work.

Different persons and different uses, I suppose
For me it is definitely a _must have_
PS. Your rom are GREAT anyway and this missing encryption feature does not spoil it.

Thanks. Encryption depends on several different services in Windows to create a key and storing it, filter any storage operations to the FAT and so on. There seems to be more missing than just encfilt.dll.
Microsoft recommends setting the variable SYSGEN_ENCFILT during build:

You can't just put the zip file in original_update. Kitchen has to be configured for your device, or it will not work. I'd like to know how to do that as well.

OK then, if it isn't necessary to configure the kitchen for your device, then how can you make it work with your device? I am just a NOOB, let's make that perfectly clear. However, I followed the directions to the letter, and read up on the kitchen before trying it. I had no success using the kitchen to create a rom that I could successfully flash.
I thought that I would have to do something with the edify defs files first, adding my device before it would work. I just never got that far yet (I only play with this part time, when I have a chance to do so.) If I don't have to add my device, and you have some idea what I may have done wrong, please enlighten me. I obviously need the help. Thanks!

You put any custom ROM for your device in there, configure it for that file (meaning that show it the file you're working on), replace it's system folder with the stock deodexed system folder.
Now, you're ready. Do your modifications. Add features. Build. Zip
Now, the important part.
Kitchen updater-script doesn't work on our device in some case. Use any custom ROM updater-script (with permission and credit), and voila!
There is a complete guide on it in Development section too.

I have tried the kitchen with my phone before, (LG Spectrum/VS920), and the ROMS generated by it will not work. It has something to do with the "edify defs" file I believe. I read it somewhere before in these forums. If your device isn't supported, it has to be added, or at least that's what I've come to understand. If someone can point me in the right directrion (adding my phone so it is supported by the kitchen), I'd appreciate it greatly.
