How to Unlock a Device-Password Locked Hermes? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hello all,
I got a friend of mine who came to me with a device-password locked Hermes, which password he cannot recall (actually his girlfriend...). I said I would be willing to give him a hand to unbrick the device. The problem is that I cannot install any ROM on the device, coz I got an error connection right after the screen goes white and the percentage count should normally start.
So I put the Herm in Bootloader (spl-1.06) and try to flash the OliPro Bootloader. The procedure goes correctly until the step where the upgrade itself should begin, counting from 0%... here, I got:
ERROR [262]: Update error: communication error.
I also tried to flash a ROM directly, but since my Bootloader is 1.06, I didn't find a CID match ROM, so it also failed. The Herm is now not bricked, but it stays at the password input screen, so cannot enter windows properly.
Any help on this?
Thanks,
Ionutz

Interesting since you are trying to go around something HTC probably did not want for people to go around due to security....

yes, i grih you,and normally i wouldnt even try to do such thing, if it hadnt been for a friend of mine which i know.
besides i would like to learn more stuff about my Herm and this is one thing I havent seen discussed here, although i keep reading xda forums for such info.

just found the solution: i flashed another ROM with same CID since my BL was 1.06, but with BL 1.04. After that, I managed to flash any other ROM and automatically upgrade the SPL to 1.10 or 2.10 Oli accordingly.
If any of you interested and dont get the short explanation, PM me.
cheers,
Io, owner of 2 kicking TyTn's

BL 1.06 didnt allow devices with a different CID to be flashed,
eg: my TyTN had the CID: QTEK001 so i couldnt flash a ROM destined for a device with CID: VODAP001
But BL 1.04 had a bug where you COULD flash any ROM to the device regardless of the CID, the first attempt shows a vendor ID error, then try again and it will flash no problem.
The simplest way I would have got past the device security problem would have been a hard reset.

I know the details about BL 1.04 vs 1.06, thats why I flashed a BL 1.04 ROM, but with the same CID QTEK_001, or smth.
I have to admit though that I never ever thought about doing a simple hard-reset. I guess it would have been to easy, I jumped to more complicate scenarios. Thanks for the help anyway, i gotta learn that.

Thanks mrvanx, glad I read down the whole thread to the part about a simple hard reset working. I lent my 8525 to a friend, thinking he might be interested in buying it, then he didn't have the money, and after I listed it on ebay today, I charged it up to flash to ATT stock, found it password locked, called my friend a few times just getting his voicemail, so tried flashing, and it said the Hermes wasn't connected to the PC...
I figured there would be a solution here at XDA..and POOF, like magic here it is!
So yes, all I had to do was a hard reset, tested and it works, and it was simple, so thanks again mrvanx, although this thread is very old, glad I found it LOL!

Please help.. a little girl waits :(

Heh apologoies for title but im really stuck and desperate for any help!!
I have been trying to unlock my Cingular 8525 for many hours now without any luck.
I bought it off ebay knowing it was locked because I had seen these forums and knew it wasnt too harder job. I live in NZ we have a compatible 3G network here (they sell these phones branded as JasJams).
Anyway I dont have a cingular sim card, only a Vodafone NZ simcard. I dont know if that is a problem for me or not...
My problem is that I get part way through the update process and the connection between pc and phone gets cut everytime at the same place.
On my bootload screen during the setup it says
HERM100 IPL-SSPL by Des
HERM100 SPL-1.09.ds
and then
HERM100 IPL-1.01
HERM100 SPL-1.40.Olipro
Then I tick the appropriate checkboxes, I HAVE to soft reset my phone here to get it to sync up with my PC again, I dont think this should be a problem though,
It then gives me the button to select the Update button (Update the radio and bootloader)
So I click that, it gives the next screen, click next, tells you its going to take 10 minutes etc, so click next,
It then instantly disconnects the active sync connection and about a minute later I get an error screen saying the unlocker encountered communications errors.
I have been through this whole proccess 6 times now with no joy
Someone pleeeeeeeeease help me
Thanks
im willing to pay for a code all i want is a unlocked sim phone none of this radio stuff etc
try Wiki
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/
or alternatively
http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=30&Itemid=27
Thanks but not really helpful, I have read the wiki through and through. I have tried that flashing HardSPL v7 and i get exactly the same problem.
PLEASE somebody help me
The only piece that is confusing is what to do once your done. The instructions say that you will be replacing your radio with a tweaked one to allow the unlock. After the entire process is done I assume you will need to have your favorite radio (1.40.3 in my case) handy to flash back onto your Hermes?
I also assume that flashing your favorite radio back to the Hermes won't lock it back again.
To be honest, I'd suggest going back to basics. You could try quite a few workarounds and end up doing this anyway..:
Reflash the original ROM your phone came with. Should be found easily via wiki.
Then you can start upgrading again.
If that's difficult, try flashing from your MicroSD card, which I've found never fails, having bricked my Hermes quite a few times now with my own cockamayme (sp) versions of ROMs that I've cobbled together from bits of code and chewing-gum.
as far as I know you dont need to CID unlock before flashing.... With olipro spl and custom RUU updater you can flash anything on your phone....
laurasaur, after you have installed 1.4 olipro, use custom RUU updater
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298737
use the RUU updater with your choice of Rom.
or if yo want to unlock the device before

She want's to SIM-Unlock, not to CID-Unlock.
Do you use Vista? I encountered a similar problem with Windows Vista. Try a PC with Windows XP for the unlocking process.
ok my bad....
I've seen this issue with v1.4 Olipro. Upgrade bootloader to the latest Olipro 2.1 version then re-attempt.
ok thanks everyone for your advice but i am still screwed.
im not running vista.
i can not upgrade to olipro 2.1 because the upgrade utility always gets error 260 (update error) the update utility cannot connect to your PDA Phone.
I have now tried on 3 computers, my own, my parents and my work all resulting in the same thing.
I think now I will try and flash a WM6 rom onto my phone just using the olipro 1.4 and the custom RUU updater and see how I go but I dont have much hope
ok im currently updating the rom to wm6 as posted on the forums and oh my gosh i have a progress bar for the first time ever!! woot~~
um ok. now i have WM6 dopod version and fkn still sim locked someone help me before i throw my phone at the wall lol im going on holiday tomorrow and will have no phone for a week if i dont fix this in the next 3 hrs

Do *NOT* soft reset your phone here, it is normal that activesync disconnects while the pda is in bootloader mode (activesync only works while OS is running). Just click "next, next, next" in the RUU and it will go fine.
woooa i think i love you Pof, I seriously do. Im not sure how I became such a noob at reading instructions but im sorry and thank you so much I now have progress bar
if you're short on time avoid any radio updates, they seem a bit hit and miss - its not worth upgrading then going away to find you've got a tossy signal!!!!
hope it worked out!

CID unlock from bootloader ?

Hi,
First many thanks to all people here at the forum who makes the day better and more interesting for mobile nerds like me. I have been lurking around here for a long time and enjoyed every minute of it.
My problem :
Since my x7500 is SIM unlocked and with a standard setup as far as I can see I tried the HTC VM6 Rom flash without CID unlock.
That was stupid. Very stupid, since I don't have the providers orginal ROM available.
My x7500 will not accept the HTC VM6 ROM and is stuck in Bootloader with "USB" at the bottom of the screen when connected to my PC. Hard reset does not start the normal "installation"
When I start the VM6 flash program I get the famous "provider error message"
Is there any possibility to unlock the CID in Bootloader or "flashing" the bootloader to use the original ROM image at my device for a re-install ? In that way I could use the X7500 unlocker in VM5 and then flash to VM6 after.
If not re-installing the original ROM or unlocking the CID is possible I guess my x7500 is seriously bricked.
I am sorry if the answer to my problem can be found in other treads here. I have searched and read a lot without any success. I know now that I should have unlocked the device before trying to flash -> can only blame my one stupidity.
I will be very happy for every advice.
Greetings, Eric

There were four ROMs posted here some time ago. At least one of them didn't require the unit to be SPL / CID unlocked. Try to get hold of one of those - look in the Athena WM6 forum (where this should have been posted)

Thanks for reply.
I suppose you mean this four Rom's :
http://uploaded.de/?id=j2pv51 - ROM ver 2.20
for use with the athena_upgrade program
http://uploaded.de/?id=0v9mm1 - flasher for SuperCID devices only
works only for supercid devices
http://uploaded.de/?id=430xr4 - HTC__001 - version with spl,ipl and etc
works with CID HTC__001 and SuperCid
http://uploaded.de/?id=wbbw2u - T-MOB005 - version with spl,ipl and etc
works with CID T-MOB005 and SuperCid
As I understand my x7500 is not unlocked/superCid'ed and I need a ROM with exactly the same CID as on my device. Or am I far out ?
Or should I be able to use one of them even if the CID don't match ?
Thanks, Erik

Hi Mackaby, thanks for the answer.
That was the first ROM I tried to flash. Gave me error message "wrong vendor, check your update software"
Now I only get bootloader when I start my device. I have(had) a Norwegian ROM so I guess the CID does not match. I wish I unlocked my device before trying the WM6 ROM but......
Now I am stuck : Cannot boot / install my original ROM or install any.
My hope is that I can either unlock my CID in Bootloader or installing the original ROM again with a hard reset. To bad a hard reset only sends me to bootloader.
try this commands in mtty:
set 14 0
task 8
If it doesn't boot OS after this, you need a rom matching your CID. It's not possible to CID unlock it from bootloader.

Did it. Same result : Bootloader shows up after "task 8"
bootloader says :
athe100
ipl-v1.00

SPL-v1.07.0000
red (raster)
green (raster)
blue (raster)
"Serial" when not USB connected, "USB" when connected in white field.

Bonus pack ? do you mean the CD that followed my x7500 ? I can check but don't think there are any ROM Flash application on that.
Sorry if I didn't understand your message correct

If u buy bonus pack with athena which includes car kit etc etc, u also get CDs, in which the ROM is also there..so I was asking if u can get hold of the dealer from whom u hv got and enquire about it..also in mtty issue info 2 command check what is yr CID

Ok, understand. We don't have anything called Bonuspack here with hardware stuff and ROM software.
This was the output from the mtty command :

HTCSATHE100001.07.0000 ßؽôHTCE
Anything special with this ?

That would corrupt the signatures, and it won't flash with an unmodified bootloader.

Thanks EricBr or anyone who can help me,
I have a similar problem, but in my case I didn't do anything to deserve it... I just turned off my new and provider unlocked x7500 after playing with it all day (just installed skype for mobile and customized some settings, tried the programs, etc.), and when I tried to turn it on again, it just froze in the bootloader screen... Nothing works, I tried soft and hard resets, don't know what else to do?
I've been reading al your posts everywhere and tried a few things without succes, when I conect my x7500 to my pc, it doesn't connect to activesync or anything. I guess I would do better if there would be someone who can create a reply that would clearly guide me on what to do and what files (with links) to download. I simply don't know what happened! since I didn't do anything especial to deserve this from my x7500 which I was falling in love with, after only a few hours of just getting to know it.
I'm new to xda's so please lay it down easy on me... Already had removed the sim and the miniSD I had installed on it... still nothing happens.

Sorry dude, not a good thing to hear but your device has a corrupt CID, not alot we can do about that
Might wanna try looking for a cheap replacment hermes on ebay or something?
mrvanx
I want to know what exactly does a corrupt CID mean?
as you know i have the same problem. Is CID a chip or something?
and about the motherboard replacement issue
I wrote several emails to imate support and told them my problem (SPL 2.03 IPL 1.04 NO GSM stuck at subsplash screen KITL disabled) and told them that everyone tells me that i have to replace my motherboard. they replied me that you DON'T need to replace your motherboard. your device just need to install wm5 in our service center in dubai. unfortunately it is too dificult for me to send my device to dubai.
well, after all failed, i've handed to tMob to fix...
lets see how much they ask for a charge to fix it....
since it was their "official rom" that f**kd it up anyway, i feel like they should give me a new fone.. wishful thinking...
OK, so T-mobile must be reading this thread or something because they just gave me a new Vario II. I believe that they could not re-instate my phone because it had been corrupted so badly.
I am happy with the new phone, seeing as mine was quite scratched up, however, i cannot fathom the fact that tMo put out a corrupt ROM for all their customers.
let this be a lesson to everyone....
dnt f**k with the original ROM!
CASE CLOSED!
congrats on the new phone. score one for the little guy.

Sorry but it was a messed up flash which corrupted the CID on the device, nothing to do with a corrupted ROM image. Suggest a more creful approach to flashing, no running processes....not USB hubs nothing which could mess with the flash at all.

on the contrary, i upgraded to wm6 fine, all was good for about 2 days, then one evening went to put in my code to unlock device and it just wouldn't do it, so i decided to reflash after many attempts.
so i did have wm6 running for about 2 days. then it got corrupt. update was succeful.. however the o/s was not stable.

Brick or No Brick that is the question

I have a 8125 G4 sim unlocked w lokiwiz and a flashed WMSE5_rev4 with soft spl, well the problem that i have now is that i recentley tried to flash a new wm6 rom without hard spl ( yeah i know stupid) And now i am stuck on tri color boatloader screen no matter if i turn it off or not still goes back to the same thing. and yes the rom that i was flashing was g safe, i think were i messed up is not CID unlocking it with hard spl?when i tried to flash the new rom it went all the way to 100% and then gave error after that. NO activesync connection right now
questions
1- DID I BRICK IT
2- is there a way to recover this device
unlock it again. (CID) i had the same thing on my wiz g4. and no. is not bricked.
ok thank you and i will let u know what happens so i should use hardspl right?
ok thank you and i will let u know what happens so i should use hardspl right?
still lost
Ok this is where im at i have tried to flash other roms, NOTHING. the phone is cycling between charging(when on charger) and bootloader every few seconds then i pull it off and nothing. i cant get hard spl to recognize the phone nor will activesync. i understand that i need to CID unlock the phone but i cant even get that far?
any suggestions? please walk me through it im not stupid but HTC's are a whole new ball game for me. im used to motorolas(by the way they suck!)
thanks in advance
Get the original stock ROM for your Wizard version and flash it to get your OS back, then you can HardSPL or SoftSPL.
p.s. G4 Wizard does not have free solutions to actually "CID unlock". Either HardSPL and SoftSPL are hacks that tricks the RUU to allow flashing, you will still see your device as Locked in WST(Wizard Service Tool).
go to activesycn settings turn OFF allow usb connections and retry
I read it here in another thread after I returned My P4300 to cincinati bell in exactly the same condition you described.
Good Luck

wizard g4 problem burning roms

hey, im new but have read many of the pages here. i have burnt roms to my first wiz (G3) unlocked it and everything went well. i came about a wiz (G4) last week wm5 bland rom locked and want to get wm6 on it so after my research i went to the IMEI unlock site and purchased the unlock for the g4
the unlock seemed to go well the first time but, it won't come out of boot loader mode
i ran hornet o.10 for g4 it runs and completed to 100 % and then on reboot it comes up with the boot screen again
IPL 2.21.0001
SPL 2.21
i ran the tnt 1933 rom this morning and it completed 100% but still i have a boot screen
i know im missing something the battery power is fine .
i downloaded the stock rom for cingular but it won't load it has error "(294) INVALID VENDOR"
any suggestions ...
thanks in advance for your input

Are you sure SPL is 2.21 and not 2.21.0001 as IPL 2.21.0001 ?
Well,if its 2.21 only,the phone's got mixed Bootloaders (IPL/SPL),IPL 2.21.0001 are G4 and SPL 2.21 is G3,I don't know how you got it,but your phone is 'Bricked'
mmm it figures
so it appears there could be a problem with the imei program,
as i said it never came out of boot mode after the unlock
and no errors were shown ...
i could get another and replaced the main board, this one is in new condition
except for the custom bricked rom . in the future i will not play with a g4
thanks for the diagnosis, no way to flash a new spl / ipl ... i did read that if
it booted you could get it back in some chance cases .. i am curious as to how this happened (others not doing this for a hobby could brick there only phone)
step 1 - ran imei unlock
never came out of boot mode after
2- flashing the to above roms said to be G4 safe
i never look to see what the ipl / spl were before
i looked with the wizard tool but didn't save it
well you live and learn, it's good for parts now off to ebay for another crack at it ...
thanks everyone ... the best thing about this phone is everything you can do to it
with help from those who know ...
I recommend trying to flash back to original service provider ROM, then unlock again and try another. As long as you can get to bootloader (tri-color screen), there's still hope for your phone. When it's in this mode, and you plug in the USB, does it say USB at the bottom of the phone screen? If so, you are not dead yet.
Custom build wm6 roms like TNT etc... never Brick a G4 phone as no IPL/SPL is included in them, they are completely safe for G4 devices. What I can gather,it must be the wrong imei unlock code perhaps.
Well, like Myrddin Wyllt said, there's no harm in trying,so if it gets into Bootloaders, try to flash the official rom and if there's an error "wrong update utility" ,replace the RUU in the rom with this RUU and run this RUU,hope it might work.

ok, i swapped out every RUU i could find i get errors from
read file
invalid vendor id
wrong update utility
im too new to figure this out ..can you extract a ipl / spl from an
official rom and then flash that to get the boot loader's back in sync
i found the att 8125 ipl /spl nbf when i flash, it runs to 100% reboots but no changes
anyone have a link to flashing just the ipl / spl on the g4
i am most thankful for any advise ..
try running the hardspl on phone, it might just work to revert it back to a G4 spl.
Link to HardSPL : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332320
and G4 ipl and spl here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=342744
Also I paid to the IMEI Check and I had to change the plate because the PDA died as yours. E had not returned to the money of the IMEI Check only reply to me was that it had to change of plate ..... It had the unblocked CID?
bastards
yes they won't return my money ... somehow they bricked my phone
i would use the hard /spl and not the imei those guys are assholes
