Greetings! I wanted to see if anyone out there is experiencing the same problems and if so then maybe they have already come up with a solution.
A handful of software is locking up my WM6 (TrueNytrals 1.4MS), the most importand of which Marsware Newspanel is locking up the device after resuming wakeup. I also noticed that it does the same thing on some 3.3AKUs that I tried however the 2.2AKUs (Offical QTEK) seems OK.
I love WM6 and find that the amount of energy poured into getting this OS on our Prophets is outstanding!
Could anyone assist me with keeping this GREAT software on my G3 device since the developer has been MIA for a couple of years now and there is little chance that this software will ever move from BETA stage.

EDIT: Upon decompiling further, I have found that the NewsPanel.dll code imports from the following in the system files:
commctrl.dll
coredll.dll
aygshell.dll
wininet.dll
Of which there are differences from 2.2AKU to 3.3 and up (one would assume), therefore leading me to a dead-end. Would the system remain stable if one were to replace the above system files with the ones from a 2.2AKU? Furthermore how could one attemp changing these os-locked files?
Should this thread now be moved to "Development and Hacking"?
Anyone could PLEASE help?
Edit AGAIN: I have tried disabling EVERYTHING but the known system processes and also moving to the internal storage... STILL locking up the device.

If someone has Marsware Newspanel working on their WM6 (ANY Flavour) and it is NOT locking up their device, could you please post here your NewsPanel.dll from your "\Program Files\Marsware\" folder OR PM me? So that I may compare it to my own...

I am not sure if NewsPanel is compatible with WM6 and there is no way of contacting the developer due to the fact that he has been missing in action for more than a few years now, NewsPanel and TimePanel being his last releases (even before WM5 came out).
I suppose then to answer your question, I am looking at MODing it to work for WM6, it worked with NO Problems on WM5 up until 3.3AKU. I've been away from months so i'm catching up, but I now remember these guys, they also made the weatherpanel, too bad they are MIA, anyway obviously something broke between AKU 2.2 and AKU 3 and higher, as you have already debuged in your posts, it is probably due to change in the files you list, what you could do is create an WM6 rom with older files in it and see if it works....

i'm hardly an XDA idol, like way !, no way ! I just like my prophet

I have never quite ventured into the 'building' stages of the OS, just mainly flashing others' published works. However I am downloading the S-Core kitchen and I will see if I am not able to do just that - replacing the neccessary files to get this soft to work. However if I were to be able to extract the files that I saw from decompiling the dll from an official 2.2 AKU then I could make a CAB file to replace some if not all of the dll's, no? I say this because I have for once an incredibly stable TrueNytral 1.4 ROM with everything working (charging, wifi, bt, IR, etc.) and I would hate to see it gone - "if it ain't broke don't fix it'.
So I suppose now that I have to figure out how to extract these files from my 2.2 Nk.nbf and THEN put them in a CAB and install on my WM6... the learning process begins now...
Any assistance or guidance would be GREATLY appreciated.

I have tried about everything now, I have tried to extract all the above-noted DLLs from the official QTEK ROM, but the problem with the PE Headers of the dumped files is stopping me from trying to use them in my WM6. (Yet another problem)
I have looked in the NewsPanel.DLL, but my programming skills are not adequate enough to amend or modify it due to the fact that I don't know what I am doing should I need to change something.
++++ Can someone out there (Guru status sans doute) disassimble the DLL to know how it works and then modify what is making it "lockup" on WM6 (normally within 45 seconds after waking up the device). ++++

Franky newspanel is by far the best, I just cannot seem to get it to work!
Maybe I'm bull-headed, but I don't want to let this go if there is a way to use still use it with WM6- and as I said b4 the developer is MIA.

found your post in a search, and I just want to let you know that you are not alone, I have the same problem on an unknown Vanilla ROM and also the current XDA Mobile 6 r2a that I'm running. The exact same symptoms. This is REALLY a shame as I totally agree that it is THE BEST today plugin when it comes to RSS. I'm settling with Egress right now but if anything were to evolve on NewsPanels problems...
If there's ANYTHING I can do with my very limited knowledge in programming, let me know, at least I can beta test, right? I have no problems flashing and re-flashing if needed to get this awesome program back up and running in our WM6s.

That's strange. Back when I had the PPC-6700, NewsPanel (after a few months) started locking up my phone all the time. Not just on wake-up, but when I tried to do ANYTHING. In fact, it caused me to hard-reset a few imes...
However, now that I've got the HTC Mogul, I haven't had this problem once. Of course last time it just took a while for the problem to show up, but it might also be because I'm using the today plug-in in Spb Diary.

Ok, it seems that the Call to the Connection is the problem here or at least I think so. When we check for it to "Establish a Connection" and you have a GPRS connection it works without any problems. However, if you were to go to Flight mode then it will lock up your device again...
I read somewhere that the developer fell off of a mountain while trying to climb it and consequently expired, so I guess there is no help down that road...
Could or can anyone with some experience with IDA (or the like) dis- and re-assemble the DLL and take out the Establish a Connection problem so that the rest of the world can have Photo feeds on their today screen without waiting for Insight to update for over 8 months now? I confirm that this is working in WM5 of the official flavour, i.e. Qtek 2.20 for S200 WITHOUT the establish connection thing-y.
Otherwise I am trying to learn as I go, but as many of you with graduate degrees in IT will acknowledge - It ain't easy!

On my HTC Tytn-II with WM6, Newspanel locks up the device even if "Establish a Connection" is disabled/unchecked.

well, just flashed WM6 five minutes ago. something you have to know:
1) this ROM IS wm6 finally !!!
2) YES, this ROM is realy WORKING WM6, including radio rom, camera, bluetooth (maybe it's behaviour is a little bit strange, maybe it is problem of my poor old MA700 bluetooth, which i'm running on Vista - it has never run well even on xp )
3) does not looks to be as fast as some debranded roms with wm5, but seems to be extremly fast as it is in beta stage. fast as roms filled with tmobile junk, if i could compare
4) ActiveSync 4.5 and Viasta's WMDC seems to be working much faster
5) windows update included inside wm6 is looking to do something
6) standart feautures of WM seems to be working correctly...does not look to be somehow special in this way
7) system startup is REALLY FAST - nearly like old iPAQs are...well, not as fast, but it is twice faster than WM5
Finally - this ROM seems to be...hmmm...somehow...little bit...chinese :-(
Willl provide more info if my employer will not kill me - this is not a testing machine, but the only phone i have :-D home I'll survive few days with chinese OS....

Well, I have flashed the ROM as well (2007-03-14_Charmer_WM6_OS_MSYH_Clean_Consam_xBeta) and I think it is very fast (seems to me being faster than all WM5 ROMs I have tried). Chinese is the only "problem", will test it more.

EDIT: The only thing not working is Contacts application. Does anyone has the same problem? The applications does not even start.

have look at smartdialing - it is excellent, finaly no problems using czech characters, no more tweaknig dll's necessary
for the first look, a havedecided that this rom does not contain word, excell etc - my info was wrong. they are just grouped into "office mobile" icon...
some strange behavior still remains - i have lost icons for notes and two other (unknown) apps. their link from program targets some help file, of course chinese running notes executable directly works well - it's strage. i have none application installed as i want to test stability of basic OS, not third party applications...
P.S.: still charmed by fast system bootup, reseting again and again just to se if next bootup will be as fast as previous :-D
Well, I know that it's not mapped to the button. But the application is not running, seems that it's starting but stops immediately. Well, Contacts app is the most important one for me So I revert to WM5 again and wait for other ROM. By the way, which ROM are you using, because there were 4 ROMs to download?

Is this ROM originally really Chinese?
Guys when I look into \Windows folder there are many DLL files with .0804 extension. Doesn't that mean that the ROM is originally not Chinese? If I'm not wrong, those extensions are used for translated files (MUI). Other interesting thing is that there are many english file names, eg. in \windows\AppButtons.

melvincz: you could be right. I'm not 100% sure though. Don't even try to delete those files, you're system will freeze at 1st or 2nd splashscreen.
I flashed the 2007-03-24 rom_plus_consam and the contact application works fine for me.

I get a "failed to create empty document" using quickgps under the new WM6.1 DCD rom 2.1. I tried the registry hack and verified that the region says US. Is this just incompatible with this version of WM at this point? Still uncertain if it really helps with initial lock but would like to try. Thanks.

i am not familiar with quickgps and im just guessing here, but does it require sqlcemobile maybe?

You will need registry edditing software such are resco to import the reg file. I used to use the free PHM regedit, but it is not capable of importing .reg files. So I installed Resco file explorer/registry editor and it is well worth the $25.

thank you, but please thank TalynOne for this one, all I did is drag and drop a couple files he was nice enough to provide.
Well let's see, the program dumps ephemeris data to a file called: xtra.bin
If you grep the gps drivers (and or the entire roms we use) you will find ZERO references to this file. So, congragulations, you're running a program which is entirely worthless on our device with our current drivers.
Just in case someone didn't understand that, this is not supported by our gps driver, it does nothing for us.
Yeah, if QuickGPS data is actually used on a cold GPS boot is unknown. That's why I wrote the warning in the FAQ that it hasn't been verified that QuickGPS actually does anything. A couple of people indicated that it does, but it may be due to a soft reset. I'm wondering shadowmite, do you know if there are any references to the xtra.bin file in the Kaiser GPS drivers?
I'm trying to determine that now, unless this quickgps app loads it directly into the gps's memory (which is possible, there is a reference to the port in the exe file) it doesn't do anything. I'm taking it apart trying to decide.
after playing a little more, it seems i am not getting a fix any faster, but i am picking up more sats- 10 now, ive always seen 4-6 before. but, maybe its just the conditions outside? im awaiting shadowmite's results.
It seems to be making a big difference for me. After a soft reset I'm getting an initial lock in tomtom in under 10 seconds indoors. Prior to running download in the exe it was taking a few minutes if it would get an indoor lock at all.
i'm too lazy right now to go outside and test this. just wondering if this is a standalone app that activates gps, or if it just updates sat data. i've gotta go grab some food soon so i might just find my answer.
Supposed to just download satellite position data I believe to help lock faster but as Shadowmite said, it is still unclear if it helps on the Titan.
Hey Shadowmite, firstly I just want to thank you also for everything you have done for all of the smartphone groups. I have been a big fan since your days on the treocentral forums helping us all with the Treos. The quickgps may be just a placebo effect but I never used to be able to start up a native gps satellite sync indoors in my home office. I used to have to go outside to start up then come inside and it would sometimes keep a satellite or two locked. Now I can get initial sync inside even after a cold start. I do notice that occasionally I have to soft reset to get the GPS kick started as it occasionally isn't recognized by TomTom even using the astrogpslauncher app. Obviously this isn't scientific and I will wait to see what your dissection shows. Thanks for working on this. One other question for you programmers, would it be feasible to create some kind of external LED sequence or task bar icon that would indicate that the GPS is active and/or locked on satellites? Right now it requires an app. I know you guys aren't just sitting around waiting for people to suggest new functionality but it's just an idea to throw out there. Thanks again.
I don't think it will help, while both Titan and devices like Kaiser use Qualcomm MSMs, they do so in completely different ways. The CDMA gpsOne spec doesn't need to know what satellites are in the sky... it can pull that data from the network.
I think the major GPS delays on Titan are bugs in the radio stack... HTC has never tried to enable gpsOne on CDMA2000 before, and there are likely to be many bugs. If there weren't, well, we would have had GPS on the Harrier.

Thanks a ton. This worked perfectly. It took me 15 minutes to get a fix this morning with no quickgps but only 1 minute after installing this cab.
I had installed the quickgps.cab I downloaded 6 months ago but got the "connection failed" message. Thanks dcd1182 and TalynOne for making this available.

I have just upgarded my device X7500 to HTC WM6. But I see, WM5 is more staible than HTC WM6. Thus I decided to downgrdae to WM5. Please who has original HTC Manfacturer Ship WM5 (English Edition) please upload it to this forum.

My own experience is that WM6 is a lot more stable. I used to have lots of freezing back in those days when I was using WM5. Now it very seldom happen.

i have used a advantage with wm6 (original rom and pk rom) and now i use a advantage with wm5.
my opinion about the stability of these rom are:
wm6 original rom < wm6 pk 3.0 dual < wm5
wm5 is, for me, the more stable OS for the advantage (at this moment).

Even with all radios off, caches cleared, lots of memory and apparently nothing running, I still experience times when I click on something and wait for sometimes 10-15 seconds before my command executes. It's almost like I am downloading something in the background. Sometimes it lasts a few minutes and sometimes it lasts for a half hour or more and then it's back to "normal". Click and the command executes immediately.
It was suggested in another thread that my problem might be related to SPB GPRS Monitor. So I bit the bullet and did a hard reset, re-synched my calendar and contacts but did not install any programs. It seems that the slow-downs are a little less frequent (or it could just be my imagination) but they are still happening. Argggh!

Those random slowdown and freezes were exactly how I would describe my WM5 experience. These very very rarely happen after upgrading to WM6, whereas in WM5 it was happening every day.
And Wm6.1 is even better. Wait until PK4 and you will see how good it is! My gps and overall performance is so much better. I do not like the threaded SMS though as you cannot use the Joy stick to go to the next conversation or delete the conversion while reading. If you good move to the next conversion and delete it would be great.

I have a QTEK 2020 (FCC ID NM8HIMALAYAS, sticker says PH10B) with NO camera. It was originally running some localized WM2003, and I've tried several WM5/WM6 ROMs. They all look very nice and come with some neat stuff, however they are all painfully SLOW. Clicking on Start takes over a minute to respond. Most program-related operations take 30-60secs to happen, but once something is launched it is not too bad.
Is this normal? Have I missed something? I've followed the readme's, however I've been using the noID.exe and haven't done the ExtROM unlock/DOC format thing I just found... kind of afraid to try it, is it necessary and would it help?

when you dont use DOC then your extented rom still include all the cabs and will auto install them when you flash to a rom which support extented roms like 2003
Thanks for the quick reply, good to know it is possible to make it work better. I did clear reg hive/storage and disable KITL after flashing, but I will try the ExtROM/DOC stuff... got 2003 working with Google Maps (had to install .net mobile framework 3.5) which is perfect for my camping trip

It would appear that it is indeed a common problem for the PH10B without camera. I dare say there is some base-level software that is expecting a camera bot not finding it, perhaps it needs the camera key disabled in the registry.
Anyway, Ather should be back as of tomorrow (after his exams) and he may be able to provide further information.

This is amazing for a beta. Email works. texts work. Its all in english and looks really nice. Love the new icons. And unlike the previous taxist ROMs I can access phone settings and set the bands correctly. all around loving it so far.
Its a perfect beginnig. I'm flashing tonight and hope for more news and releases soon.

Just flashed up from the TX 59 build, Very Nice work, One observation so far (has anyone else had a probelm with apps failing to install?) Resco Exp, Google Maps so far..

Just a question, are you using same bluetooth as your previous roms?
Taxist rom for 6.5 is efficient in my case due I have BT8010 headset and watch mbw150 in terms of quality sound and battery life.

My observations so far, everything looks great, about 80% on my commonly used apps get the "application install unsucessful" error, I have been having alot of system hangs (could be something I did install) I am on a x7500 (tried an extra HR just to be sure it was not a remnant from the flash) also updated radio from 1.57 to 1.58. Well that is the joy of beta testing I have always liked the Michy roms, This is only a 1st release and a very good one considering the work involved. (been running various wm6.5 builds on my Raph so I expect some bumps)

I too have the problems with installing any apps in cab form. I keep getting the "installation was unsuccessful" message....... hmm

NON OF RESCO EXPLORER VERSION GET INSATLL ON THIS ROM.
ANY APPICATION GETS INSATLL WE HAVE ALWAYS REBOOT THE PHONE TO HAVE EFFECT.
EG. FROM HOME SCREEN UNTICK TITANIUM LOGO .
I THINK THERE SHOULD BE LOT WORK TO DO WITH THIS ROM..

hey michy, thanks for coming through for us. i've been away from my computer for a couple days and was relieved tosee that you posted a beta.
a few things because i xan't type fast on the phone.
**out of all the apps i tried to install, only abiut 16% was successful. even my beloved touchpal didn't install, i got no other keyboard to install, mot even shape writer. the PHM keyboard included doesn't work (when enabled i had to change keyboard in settings then softreset). Um, anyone got a good skin for VGAKEY?
**the menu system is much slower now...
**I love that the honeycomb is much faster scrolling!
**IEmobile is much more stable, i actually haven't tried to install opera yet. the only thing it is missing right now is tabs and a larger buffer.
**titanium is more beautiful but seems a bit slower than the 59.
**the camera seems a little slower than 59 too, but somehow it is showing me that i have space for about 2000 more pictures (at 1m) than it did on 59. so its either this build handles images much better than previous or it's lying to me.
**on the today screen please change the left softkey to phone (minor issue)
*when i put the visor on time, only the hour is shown, the minutes shows like "...". eg. for 12:30am it shows like this "12:..."
**the dialer is much slower than 59.
*the call status screen is beautiful. (i wish the dialer looked like it)
**why does it always go back to the home screen after i select an app? can this be changed by reg?

the problem with the time on today screen ks resolved: i fiddled with the time in region settings and it somehow made it work like it should.
Strange encounters from my device.
After flashed, couldn't get it to sync with pc.
even after untick advance in usb to pc.
Noted it never auto reset immediately at end of flashing,
others do.
After a few soft resets, device couldn't start up again.
Not possible from soft or hard reset. Only way is
to remove battery for several minutes, put it back and
then it will start up from power on.
Aware it is beta, just love to try it out.

13/3 update
After re-flashed by using SD card, device power up normally again.
The strange encounter I had was probably due to bad flashing.
Only thing now is unable to install program using cab or from pc.
well, now I can say only about 3% (I think its less) of all the apps I've tried so far to install actually installed....I've tried damn near a hundred app so far......
i tried 6.5 before...the test version...its VERY slow..i dont know about you version though, i will flash it soon to find out...i've been using ur 6.1 version and its THE MOST STABLE OS EVER!!! only one snag in that is that when u place the keyboard on the athena it doesnt show the small menu like the AP roms do...could u perhaps blend that in this rom?

There is a Sub menu app in michys roms that turns that on on 6.1 roms, I ont know about this one though.
