WM6 comm manager - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo ROM Development

Im looking for any information about where the .bmp or .jpg or whatever format the comm manager picture files are. I am looking to just greyscale the green ones and swap them if possible. I like the look of the current comm manager but not the color. Also i don't want to use the other comm manager replacement programs out there because they look ugly.
I found the Bkgnd_Land.bmp and Bkgnd_Port.bmp in the windows directory and i haven't been able to replace or rename them with greyscale versions. It seems the attribs of the files are set to read only, system and ROM but the ROM setting is checked and greyed out so i cant change it. Ive tried to change the read only and system attribs but with no luck. Any info would be appreciated. If it is located in the rom will it take a cooked rom to do what i want?

You should be able to overwrite them with Resco File Explorer if they are in the Windows directory.

I change the both files, but the Comm Manager is still green

Did you power off for 30 seconds then do a soft reset?

Only the soft reset. I try again.

Saying that I cant change them either!
I found a whole host of images from CommManager, all in the correct colours. It just doesnt use them. I wonder if it was meant to change with the today theme, and something has got stuck.
Any ideas?

Delete gx.dll from Windows

Is there anyway to delete the gx.dll from \windows on the Athena or would I have to get the rom image and remove from there before flashing.
I am looking to try a couple of alternative gx.dll's to see if they can cure the couple of issues with performance on GAPI software and try GAPI for HPC's http://www.wincesoft.de/html/gapi_for_hpc_s.html to see if that can rescale the touchscreen to 96dpi (which it reckons it can do) but even if you believe you have overwritten the dll once you soft reset to try the new one out the original is still there.
you will need to use resco explorer. You might also be able to do it through Activsync. The normal file explorer won't work.
Shall try again later on I have used Reco to overwrite the .dll and it appears that you have done it until you soft reset then the original ones back again. I shall try a delete & reset and see what the phone thinks of that.
update:
Resco brings up a dialog box saying 'File in ROM cannot delete' so looks like I would have to strip it out the image and flash the firmware without it there
try total commander..its free. Some apps do not allow delete, but will allow overwrite
Will give it a try, Resco allowed you to overwrite and when you look afterwards it appears to have done so, File Manager and Activesync explorer also both give the same impression but when you soft reset so that the nex gx.dll gets loaded you find that windows has rolled it back to the original.
On my Universal I can do this no problem and swap stuff around as I like so I assume the Athena's handle things a bit differently, I get the impression that the \Windows directory you write to is actually in two parts but you see the two as one, there's the set in stone part on the rom itself and then there's another on the storage that you can write to so new files like .ini's or custom dll's can be added but nothing already there from the rom flash can be deleted/overwritten.

HTCRT Settings

anyone know what the settings would be for creating an nbh file using HTCRT? Specifically i need the values for the splashes and main os nb files. thanks!
Alright so for those that are wondering, i edited the ini file with the same settings as the kaiser (why i choose kaiser is a simply case of random copy and paste.) i was able to create a simple nbh from a splash nb file and i flashed it to my phone. and for the record, it worked. and also for the record, it erased everything else on the phone, even though there was no OS rom being flashed. im going to continue to work with the settings and see if i can figure it out but theres a heads up for anyone that wants to know now...

This one works. Tear it apart for the settings you need.

CHomeConfigurati - Problem show icon on custom panel in portrait mode

Problem show icon on custom panel in portrait mode
First excuse me for may little english.
I have create a panel to dial contact with chomeconfigurator, in portrait mode icon for panel is not show, if I turn in landscape mode the icon are show correctly.
Anyone have solved this problem?
Thanks to all.
I had the same problem with HTC home panel, if you change you screen to Windows sliding panel, everything should be OK. Probably a thing CHome configuration developers should look at.
Partial solution
x Rudat: Thank you, I've found the same solution yesterday, with the standard sliding panel all work fine and it show all icon.
What's the .cpr file associated with HTC Home Panel, I've try to modify the file found in phone (file ends with HTC***240x320.cpr and HTC****320x240.cpr) but nothing changed on my phone, I'va also edit .xml file to create custom panel but nothing it's happened...
An other question, where is the file .cpr used to show panel, I'm not be able to find it in my phone...
Thank to all
Custom Partial Fix for Sliding Panel Icons in Porrtrait Mode
I have a partial fix that you can try. It is based on the HTCSlidePanel_US.xml. After extracting the 3 files, copy HTCSlidingPanel_Rev12.home.xml to your device \Application Data\Home. Then make a backup copy your device's SlidingPanel_240x320.cpr and SlidingPanel_320x240.cpr. Then copy the two extracted files: SlidingPanel_240x320.cpr and SlidingPanel_320x240.cpr to your windows directory on your device. This will OVERWRITE your orginal files so make a backup BEFORE you do this incase you want to go back.
It is not exactly the way I like it but it is better than the HTC Green. Enjoy.
Problem
In my phone (rom origina in italian no brand) I'm not able to find SlidingPanel_240x320.cpr and the SlidingPanel_320x240.cpr, where I'll find it?
Those files are hidden - use a file explorer and change the file display settings to show all hidden and system files. You should find it in the device windows directory.
Thanks
I've found the files and now I'm trying to customize the home panel, thanks to all...
I seem to be unable to replace SlidingPanel_240x320.cpr and the SlidingPanel_320x240.cpr files with their new versions - i am being told it is either locked or I do not have rights to change or edit the folder... can anyone hint me how to do that? Thanks

Never mind, Total Commander http://www.smartphone-freeware.com/download-total-commander-v2-5.html helped...
Customize HTC Home Sliding Panel
Fix - Show Icon and Formatation in Portait mode
Somehow the Problem was the GUID of the Panels.
To Change that permanently follow my instructions:
1.) Use CHomeConfigurator
Create the Panel (e.g. called "GamePanel1") just the way you want to have it
Close CHomeConfigurator.
Check if it works in Landscape Mode the way it should.
2.) Use Total Commander
Goto \\\registry\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CHome\
Copy and rename CWelcomeCenter folder (e.g. "GamePanel2")
Delete all the pages in \\\registry\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CHome\GamePanel2
Copy the new Pages you made in GamePanel1 to GamePanel2 (Use [Strg]+[c] and [Strg]+[v])
3.) Customize properties of GamePanel2 just like the once in GamePanel1 with Total Comander
\\\registry\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CHome\GamePanel2
CONDENSEDTITLE
ICONPATHS
LocName
Pages
4.)Open CHomeConfigurator again
As you can see GamePanel2 allows no changes!!!!! Just like CWelcomeCenter.
Hide GamePanel1 (or delete)
Show GamePanel2 (You might have to enable GamePanel too if it is written in red)
Exit CHomeConfigurator and Confirm: Save Changes!!!!
Done!!!
You can do that multiple times for more Panels using a copy of CWelcomeCenter (resp. its GUID)
Great fix, it works!

hack, hack, hack, all day long...

hey there...i was wondering if anyone could take a sec to help a n00b out...
i've been working on a rom (6.5 build 23544) using Ervius visual Kitchen for gene by BesFen for a few days...i've finally found all the packages i want and made a few ones myself...i made a test rom and its running well...
but there's still one huge hole left in my finished build...so i just needed some help i.e. needed to know a few things
1. where do i change the the default splash screen (the orange windows image) that pops up after the boot screen
2. where to replace the startup gif image and wav sound
3. how to set an external theme as my default and removing the inbuilt themes that come bundled with the 6.5 builds
4. how to change the default icons (i have an icon pack as well a cab file of the same)
5. if there is a way to set up a shutdown animation and splash screen in the kitchen before creating the rom
6. edit any other settings and tweaks while still in the kitchen phase
7. change the start menu icons for the softkey buttons and start menu
8. edit the taskbar and softkey bar to make it transparent on the today screen as well as inside the menu
9. remove default ringtones and replace them with our own
i tried searching the net and going through the posts here but i'm drawing blanks...
i'd appreciate any solutions that come my way!!
solutions!!
found a few solutions myself...a lil' help from the boards...
if anyone else is interested in them, here they are-
1. the splash screen can be changed by replacing the welcomehead.96.png in the "SYS\28230\dpi_96_resh_240_resv_320\COMMON\Redist_dpi_96_resh_240_resv_320\" folder file with your own
while you're at it, you could replace the complete.96.gif file too
*but make sure that you have edited your images to the correct format and resolution before making the changes
2. the animated.gif and bootuphtc.wav files in the "kitchen\OEM\OLDGENE\COMMON\OEMOPERATORS" folder can be replaced with your own
4. add your icons in the "kitchen\SYS\28230\dpi_96\COMMON\Base_DPI_96" folder thereby replacing the default icons
*make sure that the names of the icons you add to this folder is the same as the default icons
6. to change the rom's date and give it your own name, make changes in the "mxipupdate_OEMVERSION_100.provxml" file in the "kitchen\OEM\OLDGENE\COMMON\OEMVERSION" folder,
this can be done by opening the file in notepad and making your changes in the 'value' section
do correct me or suggest an easier method if known to you
as for problems 3,5,7,8 and 9...research and testing is underway...hope to get past that hurdle soon...
use the attached folder and put it inside OEM
solve your ringtone by editing the *.rgu file and initflashfiles.txt file available in this folder
solve your theme problem by editing the *.rgu file and initflashfiles.txt file available in this folder
Note: I have used two different mp3 file for ringtone n message notification

you could just add the theme you want ( in .tsk format) in the kitchen\SYS\Themes_Lang_0409_DPI_96_RESH_240_RESV_320 folder...
tried it out and worked well...
all you have to do is go into settings\today\ when the phone starts and select which one you want...
as for setting your own theme as default...clueless...
guessing you have to extract all files from the theme and place them in the kitchen\dpi_96\COMMON\Base_DPI_96 folder and edit dsm and rgu's from somewhere to set it as default
personally...i've found a loophole to the whole theme problem (pardon the pun) so i don't bother with it anymore
more solutions...
3. to remove the inbuilt themes like dvf green, vera wang red, etc. etc. just delete the theme_dpi_96 folder in the kitchen\SYS\23544\dpi_96\COMMON folder...
to add your own themes copy the .tsk files into the kitchen\SYS\23544\dpi_96_resh_240_resv_320\0409\Themes_Lang_0409_DPI_96_RESH_240_RESV_320 folder and delete the inbuilt .tsk files you'll find there
*NOTE*
for those who want to have a modified theme, i suggest editing the .png images in the folder mentioned below...the ones with "classicblue" "default" and "black" at the start of their name to your preference and leaving the classicblue.tsk file untouched so that this theme becomes your own in case you install another theme and want to go back to your edited theme
7. edit the .png images in the kitchen\SYS\23544\dpi_96\COMMON\Base_DPI_96 folder...
the softkey icons are the ones with names like default_toolbarIconBubbleButton.png...they're all around the same area, so easy to find...
for editing, i suggest using photoshop of you have it, else an easier alternative is the paint.net editor available at http://paint.net
8. now i couldn't get a transparent taskbar and softkey bar on the today screen without using titanium but i did manage to get it to be fractionally more translucent but editing the .png files found in the folder mentioned above
i'll attach the files if needed...
my ROM's coming along so i'll keep you posted with more solutions as they come along...have fun cooking!!
Suggestion
Remove all landscape theme files, bcs no-one uses the GENE in landscape mode and it will make the ROM lighter in weight

Change Toggle switches & Notification icons

Hi People
How We Change Toggle switches & Notification icons From Manila shortcut . I Have The New Icons But I Don't Know The Path In Registry Editor To Add The New Icon . I Just Need The Path To Edit Icons
Toggle switches / notifications are slightly different to program shortcuts....
If you have the new icons they are probably .png files or manila files right???
If so you need to copy them to /windows (on the device memory) and overwrite the ones that are already there......
you should take copys of the originals first though and keep them safe on your sd card in case theres a problem... you might need to "show hidden/system files" in your file explorer settings to be able to copy them........
hope that helps........
thanks its work
can i ask other small Q please . how can i change loading image when we run sofrware or do anything . the circle image i mean .
and thanks again ;*
not so sure about that one, I think its the same process though, you just need to find a suitable loading symbol, ive never changed mine though....
