That really puzzles me why MS and or HTC already have made a GUI based on flash or similar? It's a good standard.
This could actually be really promising.

Looks COOL, thanks!

Woo hoo..that looks awesome..hope I get chosen to become a beta tester.

I submitted an application as well.

Co-Worker showed this today. I must be behind as many folks probably are aware this is out.

but fiddy bucks when it will be eventually made for free by someone else?
patience is a virtue

Spb has to step its game up! Don't get me wrong it (mobile shell) is a good app. But, you got touchflo (buttonflo in my case), all of the iPhone clones and this app. The winmob launcher market is getting crowded and that is good for us.

The only thing that's nice on the iPhone is the size of it's screen and it's multi-touch screen. IMO the interface is stupid. It's more for the average simple minded person where everything is in big and handicap accessible which in turn is contrasted by the annoying slide to unlock which is a pain in the ass to use.

This was a great article.
I liked your analogies used in the article. I think towards the end you focused less on grammar and more on finishing the article though. The beginning seemed much more paced and detailed.
Great article though.. thanks.

now this looks very very interestin!

Well color me interested. Yep, signed up for the beta like everyone else. This is exactly what the WM platform needs I think to get some broader adoption. As with any good development this looks to make use of what's already out there that works well along with things that people feel are bad or missing from current offerings. Can't wait to see it in action.

This is going to improve and completely change our beloved phoneys..
How about making themes for the cooked roms.. A crazy black and moving flash theme..or how about an Elfie Theme with little elfs running around.
Now - GUI guys, you are getting challenged by this new feature of our world.

This is nice, but I don't get it...
Why reduce the today screen to a single button list? I really enjoy being able to precisely customise what is on my today screen, and being able to have any infos I need/want at a glance.
Something more hybrid could in my opinion be better.

I agree, all this iphone style hype and all you end up with is a less usable phone. Apple have everyone fooled, people really need to slow down and have a look at what is really happening.

I would love to see apple similar interface WITH the tabs at the bottom, as "primary apps" each linked to a full screen (one of them could be the "today" tab that would display the today screen if tapped) where you could add or delete and even modify the icons for any programs you wanted on any screen grouping all the applications requiring internet on one screen for example.... seems like a simple idea but haven't seen anything like it... or am I wrong?

this looks quite promising.. if only there were some video shots of it working..

I can only imagine this will be slow.. if its flash its sure to be..
Also.. why have another app running all the time.. the only way for this to really really be useful is for someone to totally modify a ROM to have this as the default shell (which I imagine would be a lot of work) which would then be quite useful.
The other thing is that the Today screen is one of windows mobiles best features over symbian or the iphone as far as im concerned.. its a brilliant interface for presenting a lot of info neatly..
This does look nice.. but like all the other app launchers i bet i'd give up after a few days and go back to the tried and tested today screen.

It looks like it might be good.

Well, I will list several reason why I use it.
1. I made the skin and its different from everything that out there.
2. I like to party and go clubbing so it fits my style.
3. My sister and friend love showing off to their non business oriented customers to increase their sales.

Low resolution??? The animations are really really smooth but there are alot of them and there all full 240x320 images. I made it according to the 24 Bit BMP format requirement for brn files. If there are any problems I was hoping that the people who like it and would be able to help each other. I haven't had any problems with it other than running out of memory. But I do run alot of programs. I would like to know how stable it is on a touch since it has more memory than my titan.

The trend is all about the phone and what I have and what you don't. Since the marketing for the iphone has been very successful. Non nerds are invading the pda market. They all want to touch, stroke and feel all of my goodies.

Hey! You know, good job on the ROM. I can tell you put in a lot of effort and your intension's are in the right place. But I cannot say that would actually flash this ROM because I need to feel secure that I will actually be able to USE my phone after the fact. Also, I am not a fan of your UI graphics. I prefer a more sleek look 'n feel. Oh, and I like having lots of memory as opposed to running out of it...
I think this covers the list of requests for most people in your next version, if you decide to release one.
I call this skin "FASHION CUBE"

Inspired by the Wuvuzela app (and possibly by the announcement of Portal 2 at E3), I've developed a simple little application that allows you to blow into your phone's microphone to blow out candles on a cake.
The options screen, displayed before running the app, now allows you to Calibrate your device's microphone. Simply touch "Calibrate", press OK, and blow into your phones mic until told to stop. The minimum decibels needed blow out the candles are now set to your current environment.
You can also enable the tune, which will play the Happy birthday tune after blowing out the candles.
Finally, you can change the preset message to something more personal, such as "Happy Birthday, Michele!"
Features:
-Blow out candles with your phones mic
-Custom birthday message
-Calibrated to your environment
-New, prettier birthday cake
-Happy birthday tune played in the background
Tested and working on my HTC HD2, but should work on other devices as well.
Let me know what you think/if you have any problems.

work great on omnia even just half screen...thank..
thanks for this good idea ! But in my HTC Touch HD, doesn't work : the candle is still there even if I blow strongly...
Nice app. But bad for your HD2's mic (corrosion!).
Didn't work on Samsung Omnia 2 (i8000)

But will be better if we can edit the message.

Happy Birthday! Buy a real cake and share it with family and friends
If I may give my input
I think this application is useless, however many people like useless applications. To be quite honest, I think If you added the happy birthday song within the app that could be played on demand, that would create a much higher demand for it. I know there have been times when its someones birthday and I wish I could play the birthday song..... If this idea intrigues you let me know when you add it so I can be the first to test it out.... seems pretty simple....Good luck
great start....has great potential !!! why not try a new app of bits of paper.....that fly in pointed direction when blown in the mic ????

Amazing! Any news on when it will be out?
will it be open source? for ports to HP touchpad cuz I doubt they'd do it if they care about 'consumer experience'
the UI does look amazing...its exactly what I wanted from a tablet
Its running on ICS, wouldn't it be possible to do distribute this as a custom launcher with its own widgets.
Either way its nice to see other companies taking advantage of the Android source and adding their own enhancements to it. Some call it fragmentation, but its no different than Linux distros. In the end the user gets the power to customize even more.
Why is Bud Bundy on their website?
On a serious note, Teknision has some real pretty eye-candy on their site.
But aside from contributing to the PlayBook interface, it looks like all they have done so far is prototypes.
The demo looks good but they are pandering to the OEMs, not the consumers.
If anything, I think you might see this on a very expensive, yet to be produced device.
Maybe next year.
Can't a Dev come up with something like that for us in the free world (donations given obviously), because stock Android on tablets in general has yet to impress me.

The world revolves around money... i cannot express how lucky we are to have the community we do, and the software that has come from it. Sadly, i see that community shrinking over time, not growing

In order to develop something like that, a developer would need to have the resources that teknison has, the man power that teknison has, the money that teknison has, and the test devices that teknison has.
none that neither I nor any other developer ever WILL have. so no, we cant come up with something like that. you cant just throw something like that together. its taken probably the better part of a year with a group of people to develop something like that.
So, time goes, but what are the news from Teknision about Project Chameleon?
I think I would get tired of this pretty quick. Transition animation is pretty cool but there is a point where I want things to open quicker and this just looks like a lot of graphics without adding anything all that great.
A lot of it depends on how whether it can be tailored to each persons wants. So many times I see something that looks cool on youtube but then you try it your self and it doesn't do what you want it to do.
Can this run flawlessly on CN ICS or classicnerd ICS?

Sense 4 Keyboard + Trace

Back in the Sense 1.0 days on my original Incredible, I loved the stock Sense keyboard, as did a lot of other people. It was widely regarded as the best Android keyboard before the advent of things like Swype, SwiftKey, etc. Much better than Stock, for sure.
Since those days, I've moved to Swype. There are a lot of things I don't like about Swype, but I put up with all of it because it's the fastest and easiest way to type which is the most important thing.
Some of my problems (at least the ones that come to mind) with Swype are as follows:
They constantly change button arrangement with each new version
They refuse to remove the language button if only 1 language is enabled, despite the fact that everyone in their forums asks for it
Essentially zero configuration options
Doesn't use Google's own voice engine
Tedious installation (not a very big deal)
Now, I don't know how I missed this until now, but I just came across the Trace option that has apparently been around since Sense 3.0 and is included in Sense 4. It really seems to be the best of both worlds. I get the speed benefits of Swype but with better (OS-matching) design, better button layout, and uses Google's voice engine (which among other benefits means that I'll see the words as I say them, not when I'm done speaking). And of course, no tedious installation since it is stock.
One of the great things about Swype is it's accuracy and text prediction, which I'm sure the HTC keyboard will not match exactly, but I feel like as long as it's close, it will be good enough considering all the other aforementioned benefits.
In the brief amount of time since I learned of the existence of this feature, I've looked into a few reviews. The general consensus seems to be that it is pretty darn good, although there were some that didn't really think it was quite there yet. But, I have also seen some people who've said it's greatly improved in Sense 4, which is even better news. And some of the people who noted the vast improvements were people who didn't like it in Sense 3.0. So the majority of users, those who already liked it, will like it even more, and those who didn't like it before will probably like it now. It seems like an all-around win.
Until today, I probably would have installed Swype on Day 1 of having my Incredible 4G. But now I'm definitely planning to stick with the stock HTC keyboard until I'm given a reason to switch, which I don't expect to be any time soon.
What about you guys? Thoughts?
Because this phone is taking so long to come out, I'm considering getting a Sony Ion or a Sony SX imported. Their keyboard looks pretty good. Nice clean and minimal.

So long to come out? It wasn't announced a month ago yet. Although that keyboard is nice, I don't see how I could get it to work on Verizon. If you're able to make/find an app that mimics it, do let me know though!
I've been using AnySoftKeyboard to replace the Sense Keyboard since I downgraded from the orig Incredible to the R2D2 Droid 2 (my love for geekdom superceeded my need for a strong phone). However, over the years ASK has started to bloat and breakdown in usability since my use for the keyboard involves ignoring auto-correct semi-regularly and put in my own spaces after words. I have been longing for a keyboard since then that lets me type my own words, select that the spelling is correct, and press space afterwards without auto-correcting anyway to the closest spelling, while being black/dark gray, with lots of alternate/special character options.
Granted, I have been lazy and haven't been looking for a new keyboard yet, but I don't think Swype and I would get along.
As for the voice recognition, there's still a slight delay to it. I don't think we're quite at instantaneous voice-to-text translation yet, or at least not at a phone level. The video I saw of it in use was the GNex, admittedly, and it was probably 2-3 seconds behind. The speed impressed me, but it was not instantaneous after each word.
I shall look forward to this new Sense keyboard! Though to be honest I was looking forward to putting a custom ROM on the phone asap for a pure ICS experience. I'm tired of waiting for Verizon to release updates. Took me a year to get Gingerbread.

Should you get a HOX+? With Flowchart!

All the "help me decide" threads are getting really old and they're cluttering the board. You should be able to compare specs yourself and determine what fits you best. If you have some unfortunate disability which prevents you from comparing specs here is is a nifty tool for you.
If you have compared the specs and are having trouble making up your mind, I have constructed this handy-dandy flowchart.

If you still don't know what you want, I suggest choosing a phone at random because a bunch of random people on the internet aren't going to make a better decision than yourself.
If you are wondering about possible new features gained from 3rd party ROM development (CM, AOSP, AOKP, etc) just buy a Nexus 4. Never buy a phone expecting to get new features in the future. Buy a phone and never expect more than what's in your hand.
Hope this helps clean up the board.
AHAHAHAHAHA epic! i was going to do one of these!
Hahahahaha, i love the "Do you Like Sense?" --> "Yes" ---> "Wrong answer." Brilliant.
I think theres one important factor there that should fit in up there next to the Nexus 4, While the Nexus 4 is a very nice phone it wasnt an option for me because it only has 16gb of storage which unfortunately ruled it out because I dont live in the cloud (Not now, and not for a very long time)
As for Sense I'm going to get shot for actually kinda liking it arent i? and yes I've had stock Android, my last phone was a GSM Galaxy Nexus, I think stock android is awesome but I dont think Sense 4 is that shabby...I kind of like some of the interface over stock to be honest... and between the two skinned Android versions I've used I'll take Sense over TouchWiz
This chart is good and also funny I'm also one of those with the wrong answer.. I just got spoiled by some of the nifty features and aesthetics since having the HTC Desire, and it was my first ever Android phone. It's not perfect though, I wish Sense retained some of the slick animations from stock Android, got rid of the 3D cube Rosie animation, and that stock snappiness.. heh, that is why I'll also be flashing stock ports in the future, as I did with my Desire
Path to Nexus 4 is too straightforward. There are more obstacles on it.
At least it has double fragility due to glass on both sides. Probably even more since glass extends up to the rim (for example SGS III is pretty fragile due to that reason) while One X(+) has thicker border on top and bottom.
So path to Nexus 4 should be only recommended if one is willing to use some kind of additional protection.
