Sync software? (SD<>MicroDrive) - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo Upgrading

Can anyone recommend a good sync program that will allow me to schedule synching of data between my SD Card and MicroDrive?
I want to schedule a copying of files from my SD Card over to my MicroDrive every night. Then I also want to schedule other tasks that move files around automatically for me. Not a backup but like a sync type of feature with schedules, etc. Thanks in advance if anyone knows of something that will do this.

I sync with my PC using superflexible http://www.superflexible.com/ while either the SD or the MD is connected using WM5torage. I know that doesnlt help your scheduled copying but it is a very good way of keeping a backup of the data.

MobSync
I have used MobSync in the past.
See http://doosoft.seesaa.net/category/1089151-1.html

The latest commercial version of Mobsync crashes here, so I use the free version

[Q] Move mail to storage card ?

OK, so I have an HD2 now and it's the same old problem Microsoft hasn't fixed. Yes, I can move both my attachments and mail to the storage card but if you move the email bodies to the storage card, the perpetual recurring "storage card2" problem still haunts us. If you just want to move the attachments to the card and you use the start the “Messaging” program, go to Menu, Options, Storage (tab) and check the box that says “When available use the storage card to store attachments” option, you will not have a problem. If you do reg edit yourself to accomplish this instead of letting the mail program create an attachment folder on your sd card, you may see the recurring 'storage card2' problem popping up after you receive your first attachment and soft boot. If you move the mail bodies to the card, you will no doubt experience this problem. After years of this problem, Microsoft has not had the courtesy or sense to fix it, which one of their programmers could probably do in an hour.
There are some that say this problem is caused by the mail program or a mail service calling up the mail attachment and mail directories on the SD card before the SD card driver is loaded. I'm not a phone or software hacker guru, but it doesn't make logical sense to me that any services or software can be loaded before the OS finishes loading the startup drivers. If this actually can and is being done on WM 6.5, someone please let me know ! A solution would be to change the loading order of the storage card driver to load sooner, which can be done through a reg entry, but if it's moved up in priority too much, before other possible dependent drivers are loaded, then the storage card will not load at all, and I'm not familiar enough to guess what priority I can move the card driver up to without causing issues. I'm also not convinced of this cause because if you just move the attachments folder to the card using the option in the mail program, you'll never have this recurring "storage card2" problem.
I can tell you that removing the mail notification from my today screen on my T-Mobile Wing definitely solved the problem. It may work as well if I remove the mail screen from the menu bar on my hd2 but I like that feature and I'm really more interested in solving the root of the problem once and for all.
PLEASE HELP ! Can anyone of you xda-dev's fix this problem once and for all !? Thousands of people have spent thousands of hours pulling their hair out over this issue and Microsoft doesn't care !
Here are my observations and comments from messing with this phone for an absurd amount of hours. These are an excerpt from a posting I made elsewhere so far without reply:
1. You don’t need to modify your registry to put attachments on the storage card. You simply need to start the “Messaging” program, go to Menu, Options, Storage (tab) and check the box that says “When available use the storage card to store attachments”. Soft reset. You’re attachments will now absolutely be stored on the storage card in a folder the program will create called Inbox.mstXXXXXXXXX.xxxxx with some numerical appendage. No "storage card2" issues.
2. You can make the above registry change to move the email body to the storage card, soft reset, then use the mail program and all of your email bodies will indeed go in to the folder you created. Until you actually download an email, you can reboot as many times as you like and no storage card2 will be created, but as soon as you download an email, a storage card2 folder will be created on your next soft boot.
You can usually just delete the newly created storage card folder without removing the sd card, and reboot at least twice and the 'storage card2' folder will automatically be renamed back to storage card and it will stay this way until you download another email and restart/soft boot. Then the storage card2 problem starts all over again.
I ultimately wound up putting the email bodies back into main memory and using the storage card for attachments. With the much larger amount of memory in the HD2 than older phones, I can store a more reasonable amount of email, however it does tend to slow the phone down when you store 1000 emails and it annoys the heck out of me that I can’t actually move all of this to the SD card.
If anyone actually comes up with a solution to the actual root of the problem, please let me know !
Thanks !
I Think I know cause
I had the problem (several times) before.
The trick to avoid: everything needed for winmo to run needs to be on internal storage.
I do not know how, but i feel if one could "delay" the startup of programs, or make programs dependent of each other, the problem can be solved.
Mail is crucial in Winmo, and always runs.
If mail is started before the sdcard is mounted the Storagecard2 problem pops up.
If it would be possible to delay startup of certain programs, I am convinced the problem disappeares.
Now WM has this possibility in HKLM/init with launchXX and DependsXX
Only..... What inits the sdcard?
Anyone?
Hi all,
I also possesses a HTC HD2 and I move the mails and attachments on the storage card. The problem is that the boot device storage card and rename it to "Storage Card 2".
The problem comes from Sense, it checks the mail at startup before the card is up, anyone know how one could detect the μSD before starting Sense?
I have HTC Sense disabled all the time. Same problem with Storage Card2.

[Q] Default storage location for "application data"

Hi all,
Should it be possible to change the default storage location for data that programs save ?
For example: i use subsonic to get to my music from my server, but it saves the cached music files to the internal memory.
But i would like to change the location where it is saved, so i my internal memory stays free to save some movies on it.
Also Whatsapp, Torque and all other apps save their data (or backups) to the internal memory. My memory card has been in my phone for about a week and android hasn't done anything with it ...
I haven't found any options in the android preferences nor in the app's.
I also did a quick search on google, but i didn't find anything related, so i now ask the experts, i hope you can help me!
Thanks in advance!
BTW:I have my SGSII for more than a week and it is awsome, i use Lightnin rom and i like it...
Anybody ???

Whats the exact location that those apps save data and is in unique?
Really a dev should should have options in the app, but I assume your talking about the app saving onto /sdcard instead of /sdcard/external_sd ?
Kind of a pain but if that is the case, then the problem is you have a guaranteed sdcard that holds a non-guaranteed sdcard. So most devs will opt for the former.
Having said that it maybe possible if the location is unique, to create a symlink to the external_sd if you really really wanted.

Backup to Server

I don't like using the public clouds, simply due to privacy issues.
I am however on the road most of the time.
I have a number of hosted domains.. and the server(s) they are hosted on... (relics from a past venture).
Is it possible to Backup my SG SIII online?
I want to back up regularly, Until last week I stored all photos and extra content onto my 32gb sdcard, I've meant to set up titanium backup to use the card, but filled my card up and it never happened... anyway.. the sdcard died never to return! was only luck that had me backup my camera photos earlier..
So I would like to backup online, securly to my own domain.
Is there anything that would do that?
Thank you
edit: found FTPSyncX lite/pro which seems ok, anything else? anyone had experiance with this (gunna do a search next)
ok, I've looked, but no simple solution found just yet.
Looks like, to backup my phone (text, phonebook, calendar) I'll have to use titanium backup and then upload the file...
this doesn't necessarily have to be a manual, I think it is possible to add auto schedules to both tasks, but still looking for an all in one solution.
any idea?
Titanium provides a back up (titanium media sync).

[Q] SD Card Backup Regime

So now that I have a phone with an internal SD card, I am particularly worried about data, or what would happen if I can no longer take it off of a device. Previously an SD card could just be removed from a dead device, but not so now.
I'm using foldersync to mirror data, but I was wondering what were the essential folders to sync. I can figure out most of them, but I'm struggling with the Android folder in root. Is there any valuable information in here or is it all temporary and so not required to be backed up?

if you don't care about storage space and automation and you happen to use TotalCommander for PC, it has perfect "Synchronize Dirs" feature, with in my personal experience (after many tests of different solutions) wins every time due to high customisation, ease of use and option of binary comparison
You don't need to backup the Android folder. It's mostly just full of data files for certain apps. Like Google Maps saved map data, cached music from Google Music, game data, small preferences files for some apps etc. Nothing important. Even if you delete the contents of the whole Android folder, they'll be re-created on boot or when you run those apps next. Map data, Google music etc should be downloaded again manually. It's a waste of space to back it up as it can be 2GB or more sometimes. Generally, only backup your personal data like pictures, videos, music, downloads etc. Things which you've put there yourself. Also backup any folders of backup related apps like SMSBackup&Restore, Titanium Backup and recovery folder with nandroid backups. Personal files + backup app data is all you need to backup from the SD card. Everything else is insignificant and will be recreated anyway by the respective apps.
Thanks sashank, that's what I thought. It's a pain to backup because of the size and usage.
Looking at the docs however it seems apps can put whatever data they want there, including settings. So I guess this depends on the app itself and how well it behaves itself. I guess I will have to be discerning and backup individual files in the folder depending on how important the app is to me. Which sucks.

Well I'm using Foldersync to do this automatically already. I just didn't want to spend time and energy maintaining a backup of redundant cache data!

Considering upgrading from a rooted Galaxy S5 to LG G5. But first, some questions...

Hi gang!
So, after a couple of years of happily(ish) using my S5, it's started to lag badly (even after wiping) and have started looking for a replacement.
It seems that this really is the only viable option for me, given that I really prefer having spare batteries especially when I'm traveling, and I really can't be bothered with having have to plug my phone in, even if it's to a portable back-up battery. It's also been nice to be able to just buy my own battery whenever the battery starts getting old and doesn't hold a charge as well as it did when new. :highfive:
Anyway, given that this phone doesn't have root yet, there are a few things I wanted to find out before I bite the bullet:
Folder locations: I've been using FolderMount to change the default save locations for some apps to SD card instead of internal storage. These apps do not allow you to change directories within the app, which is why I've been doing this. This has saved my ass whenever the phone itself became non-functional. Is there a way to do this without root on the G5? Or, at the very least, is there a way to manually copy these files from the device (i.e., browse ALL files on the device) to the SD card?
Folder locations (bonus round!): in particular, the data I care about is WhatsApp and Line backups. If any of you guys have specific experience being able to save these files to SD, I'd greatly appreciate any input!
Transfering messages, call log: I've been backing up and restoring SMS and Call Log using TiBu for years. While I also use SMS BackUp+ to also have an automatic fail safe, these apps don't handle group texts very well at all, ergo my reliance on TiBu. I noticed AT&T has an app called AT&T Mobile Transfer -- will this be able to transfer all of my texts/call log? Even if it's in the thousands of texts?
S Health data: Samsung has an S Health application that automatically backs up steps/heart rate data. Is there any way to transfer this data to an LG equivalent?
Those are all that I can think of right now, but any advice would be really appreciated, thanks! :good:
