V1605 Flash to WM6 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Please excuse my ignorance on this issue but I am new to WM.
I have a vodafone V1605 with WM5 on it, I have obtained the official HTC TyTN WM6 ROM.
1. Can I flash the ROM to WM6 on this device?
2. I have backed up the device and saved the VF settings (MMS, web etc) is there anything else I should do before I attempt to do this?
3. What is the potential the brick the device if something goes wrong? / What issues may I need to be aware of to stop me bricking the device?
Many thanks for any advice.

v1605 cant upgrade
I have a similar situation but dont know how to back up the Vodafone settings. How do you do that? I tried installing the update but as I have read since this will not work on a Vodafone handset. Not too sure exactly what to do or if its a risky move to try...
Any help would be great.
Thanks

samo problem
can i just flash it or no ?

READING and learn BEFORE..........
Perhaps you can beter read this forum. Even better try the WIKI.
Don't do anything if you are not sure.
It took me about 14 days before I even dared to upgrade my radio. Then after a few days I upgrade my OS.
Now I'm almost flashing after 2 or 3 days a new or enhanced version of OS trying out and testing.
It's a fun hobby but read carefully!
Try also - The HTC Guide: Hermes (aka MrVanx's Hermes Upgrade Guide)

That doesn't sound good. Tell us when you've found one that works properly.

V1605 Upgraded
I have upgraded my V1605 using the HTC official ROM.
Use the WIKI - it has loads of useful hints and tips!
I did unlock my device using the Hermes unlocker first (if you follow the instructions this is pretty straight forward).
I then applied the ROM update and it worked without any issues.
To complete I used the HTC operator setup tool to put my Vodafone settings back on the device (MMS, WAP, Web etc).
I now have a WM6 V1605.
So do review the WIKI as I am sure many people state, but after a few days reading and a decision whether to unlock or use HardSPL it is pretty straight forward.

I've update the 1605 few weeks ago without problems.
Follow the wiki and read some thread before, justo to understan what are you doing.
No particular problem in all the procedure.
Now I have superCID, SHAPS ROM 3.54b, and 1.50 radio.
The brik goes faster and much better.
Enjoy

Upgrade v1605 to HTC TyTN WM6 and upgrade radio too
For Users of Vodafone v1605: There is no official upgrade from Vodafone.
This is my current configuration: HTC WM6 official
ROM Version: 3.54.255.3
ROM Date: 07/05/2007
Radio Version: 1.48.00.10
Protocol version: 32.81.7020.20H
ExtRom version: 3.54.255.104
For Vodafone v1605: running official Vodafone WM5
Official HTC Caution:
1.Upgrading the ROM Code erases all of personal data and custom-installed applications from the device. Make sure all of your personal information and data are backed up to your PC via ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center. After updating the ROM, copy the data back to your mobile device and reinstall your applications.
2.Third-party applications may have compatibility issues with Windows Mobile® 6. Please consult with the software developer(s) before upgrading to Windows Mobile® 6.
3.Make sure the remaining battery power is above 50% before performing a ROM upgrade.
4.Before upgrading the ROM, remove the microSD memory card from your device.
5.Do not disconnect the USB cable or start other applications on your PC while the ROM upgrade program is running. Doing so may cause the upgrade program to fail. In the worst situation, your mobile device may fail to boot.
6.The entire ROM upgrade installation process takes about 15-20 minutes. Please wait patiently.
7.When the upgrade has completed, the mobile device will reboot and start installation of certain components automatically. This takes about 3-5 minutes.
8.If you are not familiar with these operations or if you don’t know how to work with your PC, please visit your distributor or contact us for assistance.
9.Note that once the operating system is upgraded to Windows Mobile® 6, it cannot be downgraded to Windows Mobile 5. Consider your options carefully before you upgrade.
10.Users who have a membership with HTC should upgrade via the HTC official website. Upgrades done otherwise, i.e. through non-HTC-authorized channels, are considered illegal. HTC shall not be liable for any damage to the data or the user’s breach of the related laws and regulations.
This is what I suggest as it worked for me.

• Your Windows XP should have Microsoft .Net ver 2.0+
• Write down all the MMS, GPRS, servers and portals details, Backup all the contacts and stuff you want.
• Remove the MicroSD card. (Don’t know why)
• Run the HTC TyTn ___108.exe file

Free HTC Hermes SIM & CID Unlocker Available (v2a)

This is a patched radio ROM that can be used to remove the Operator SIM lock and CID lock from HTC Hermes based telephones.
It can be used in all HTC Hermes devices, the only restriction is that the device must have bootloader version 1.04
Warning:
If you run this upgrade on any other device than HTC Hermes, you will most probably render it DEAD!
Disclaimer:
This is free to use but at your own risk, I take no responsiblity for any conflict, fault, or damage caused to your phone by this unlocking procedure. It may invalidate your warranty.
Full caution is advised.
Website:
http://pof.eslack.org/hermes-unlocker/
Install Instructions:
Enter bootloader mode on your Phone. To do this, simultaneously hold side OK and POWER buttons together and reset with stylus.
[You should see SPL-1.04 on the top of the tri-color screen, if you see SPL-1.06 you'll need to downgrade the bootloader]
Connect your phone to your computer using the USB lead.
Run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe program – this will reflash your phone with a patched radio ROM required to unlock.
Wait patiently.
Once the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe upgrade completes, it will end up saying "Upgrade Error 114", but the patched radio ROM will be flashed anyway, dont worry about that error!
Soft reset with stylus (Device will not be hard reset and no data will be lost)
Allow your phone to reboot. Once it has, connect to your PC using Activesync, and copy the HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe program onto your phone. Alternatively, copy it to an SD card and insert into your phone.
Run HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe on your phone. Wait about 1 minute.
You should see a "SUCCESS!" message from HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe, after that soft reset your phone.
Process is (hopefully) complete!
If the phone requests unlock code when you put a locked SIM, the code is: 22051978.
Frequently Asked Questions:

v2a [14-11-2006] - bugfix release, thanks to all who reported the problems!
(hopefully) fixed bug where unlock code has to be entered manually
(hopefully) fixed bug where SuperCID was not kept after rom upgrades in some cases
v2 [12-11-2006] - updated to patched radio 1.16
unlocking software provided (HERM_Unlock_v2.exe): thanks buzz for the source of UNI_Unlock_v1 ;-)
SuperCID is now kept after rom upgrades

Notes:
- v2a makes SuperCID sticky after ROM upgrades, those who used v1 or v2 and are still running the patched radio only need to run HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe on the device to keep SuperCID forever.

You did an amazing work there! As my device is already unlocked I cannot test, but I am pretty sure that it works flawlessly ;-)
Will this work on T-mobile Vario II

God job! and how to downgrade bootloader
Hello pof,
I can downgrade bootloader from 1.06 to 1.04 without Radio patch.
Using files:
1) HERMIMG_IPL1.01_SPL1.04_ONLY.nbh ( Special thanks to pof.)
Get this file from xda-forum ftp-site.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Hermes/Technical/unlocker-reversed.zip
2) EnterBL.exe, GetDeviceData.exe, ROMUpgradeUt.exe, RUU.dll, RUUUI.dll
Get these files from any Shipped_Complete_Updates.
( Run Updates and getting files from temporary folder.)
3) All files in the same folder.
How to:
1) Conect Hermes to your PC
2) Run M3100v3cUnlock.exe without key-file ( no need payment.)
3) When key-file required, close the M3100v3cUnlock window.
4) Run ROMUpgradeUt.exe
Caution:
It's only bootloader downgrade. When anybody get error with
Free SIM unlocker and bootloader 1.06, you can try this method
before unlocking.

Vodafone Spain
Hi All
Thanks POF for your hard work here. Question: I have an original Vodafone Spain 1605, I haven't made any Rom/Radio Update, how should I proceed?
My HTC info:
Rom Version: 1.20.164.3
Radio Version: 1.03.06.00
Protocol Version: 32.34.7010.01W
I don't understand if I need to update my Radio version first or just follow your process.
Thanks very mcuh
Excellent - congratulations!
Nice work pof! Hermes=OWN3D!
I am flashing right now and will post results. I am on Dutch T-Mobile Vario II with original shipped ROM (Dutch)
I am getting exited
Does this mean that if we keep this patched radio then we always are going to have an Super CID device ?? That basically means replacing the included Radio.nbf with this patched one on any ROM package Or am I missing something ?
Also is this a stable ROM. My VARIO II has/had 1.05.02 ?

I cannot upgrade my Radio ROM

Hy at all,
I have one MSPV M3100 and i upgrate this to WM6 Xda-Live 0.20.1 ROM. This rom woek perfectly but my telephone run very bad.
Y have this version:
ROM: WM6 Xda-Live 0.20.1
Radio ROM: 1.16.0.0
Bootloader: SPL 1.06
I want upgrade my Radio Rom to 1.27 version, but not it with himself. I have tried 4 times, and always the same error. ERROR 114= Upgrade error.
I have followed these instructions:
Upgrade instructions
1. Extract the contents of the compressed file you've just downloaded
2.Run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
Description for Radio 1.11 shows ver 0.70, but don't worry about it, it is really 1.11
3. The Hermes screen will turn white and show "Upgrade Radio Stack Please wait........."
4. If you get a "ERROR 120: COUNTRY ID ERROR", do not disconnect the device, run MaUpgradeUt_noID again.
5. The upgrading process will start and MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe will end up saying "ERROR 114: Upgrade Error", but the radio ROM will be flashed anyway, don't worry about that error!
6. Soft reset with stylus (Device will not be hard reset and no data will be lost)
that I have done badly?
as I have it to do?
Sorry for my english, is very bad.
Thanks a lot of for your answers.

You need to prep the bootloader. I will go find the link.
Here is the wiki link. This should get you started. I am in the process of downgrading from 1.35 to 1.27 right now. lol
I have the Oliman 1.10 and ipl is 1.01. Search for hard spl and you will have it all.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms
Before you flash the radio it is a good idea to use Hard-SPL so if the flash goes wrong the phone can be recovered.
pardon, but what is Hard SPL??
Is a program??
how I prepare the bootloader??
thanks
You Need to use SSPL. Look for Radio Files with SSPL in the WIKI.
Hello,
I must make downgrade to a ROM with the version SPL 1.04 to be able to
change to my radius ROM?
That is what me say?
Thanks.
@merodio How is it that you live in the USA, but have a CANADIAN cell provider (Fido), and also can't speak/write English (again, since you live in the USA)???
EDIT: Apparently the fido icon comes up when you select "Albania - Albanian Mobile Comms" as your provider.. Which is ALSO a non-sensical choice if you're in the USA....
You need to be superCID to run the RUU you're trying to use. Use one that uses SSPL.

Downgrade to a ROM with SPL 1.04 or Change to SuperCID.
Thanks for reply.

Hey Meodio_99, sorry but you are a classical case of someone who is going to end up with a bricked (dead) phone. You have a disadvantage as your English does not appear to be very good but you need to both read AND understand otherwise sooner or later you will end up with a bricked phone.
I suggest you read all the WIKI sections talking about upgrading and also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286755

Need a little rom help..

Hey there. I think this is in the right area, if not I apologize. This is my first attempt at using a phone from another service provider on my service.
a little background information..
Im currently on the tmobile network and have purchased a cingular 8525. I bought the 8525 used and it currently has wm6 as well as the following:
M 05
s 04
b 06
r 1.16
g 32.53.7018.01H
D 2.15
I have already run the HTC sim/cid unlocker. I have the phone recognizing the sim card and can make calls and receive calls. Im trying to install a tmobile rom onto the phone to get away from cingulars. I installed the latest version of activesync and am currently able to sync with my computer as well as browse my phone via my computer to add/modify files.
The problem i'm having is when I run the official tmobile 2.26 release rom (for the MDA) once I go past the first two steps of the process its attempting to connect to my phone and comes up with error 224 saying my pda is not responding. I have it plugged in via usb and it is showing as connected. I've checked the phone's usb settings and nothing appears wrong.
Does anyone have any insight to what I need to do to be able to install a tmobile rom to this phone? Would it already having WM6 cause any issues with trying to install a 2.26 rom for the MDA?
Thanks!
Before you brick your new toy go read the WIKI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you have a new bootloader (HardSPL 1.40 if you used hermes unlocker v3a), and the rom you're trying to install uses a RomUpgradeUtility which is intended for old bootloaders (<= 1.09). Extract the NBH and use CustomRUU to flash it.
BTW, if you have a radio rom > 1.27 (with htc_boot 0108) the T-Mobile WWE rom available will brick your device because it has an old radio (1.05.02.00 with htc_boot 0106).
So if you want the T-Mobile rom the path should be:
1) Extract NBH from T-mobile upgrade exe file
2) use nbhextract to get all the rom parts
3) use nbhgen to create a new NBH file, containing only OS & ExtROM
4) Flash the new NBH with customRUU.
Read the wiki and the sticky threads on this forum before attempting to do anything, or you'll end up with a brick
I hope that you mean T-mobile MDA Vario II as opposed to the MDA which is a different phone that the Cingular 8525 (Herm100). You cannot install a ROM from a different phone type (through most install methods).
However, you can install ROMS designed for T-mobile MDA Vario II, Cingular 8525, Softbank X01HT, HTC TyTN (and it's other names; you are looking for TyTN form factor). See the wiki @ http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes as previously mentioned or do a forum search via google @ http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all
Be sure to read carefully about the process of upgrading ROMS before you upgrade it otherwise, your phone will be useless.

How to add a new network operator?

I bought a new HTC Softbank X01HT phone from China and bought it back to New Zealand. I have successfully changed all the settings to NZ network, except quite often it won't ring when someone calls me... I have got sms/txt working, internet access working, i can make calls, and sometimes i can receive calls...
If i take the battery out and restart it, I get a message which says "Your current operator 53001 is not supported. You should obtain an update from your device vendor..."
The countries pre supported are Ausi, hong kong, INdo, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand..... but not New Zealand.
My ROM version s 1.23.707.4
Rom Date 07/21/06
Radio Version 1.16.00.00
Protocol Version 32.53.7018.01H
Model Herm200
Pocket PX
Vodafone have been no help as they say they don't support parallel imported items, nor were Imate, same reason, kind of expected that.
Any ideas? this phone is really cool, but if i can't receive calls or roam with it, its basically useless for me...
ROM upgrade?
upgrading your device's ROM (and radio ROM) will probably fix your problem.
you should COMPLETELY read the wiki here at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes and also Mr Vanx *excellent* upgrade guides at http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/
read BOTH before you try to upgrade or risk bricking your device. however, a ROM upgrade will probably fix your device.
does not seem like your device is SIM-locked (or else it wouldn't work at all with your SIM), but you might want to read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=301952 nonetheless
Sounds like you've got one of the Dopod roms installed. There are a few things you can try before upgrading the rom and radio.
1. Ignore the message. Just install the operator settings for your carrier manually or with a pre-made cab file. Some of them are listed here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_provider_cabs , others you'll probably have to search for.
2. If installing your own settings still causes a conflict try deleting the other settings or use Bandswitch to disable them.
3. Try a hard reset and then, just before the customisations start, do a soft reset. The stuff Dopod put in their extended rom won't be installed but you'll also lose the 'operator not supported' message. You'll also have to manually input your carrier settings.
4. Upgrade to one of the wm6 roms but, as SkyyBoy says, be careful. Definately run Olipro's hardspl 2.10 (hardspl v7) and read Mrvanx's guide before beginning.
Oh yes, could you extract the 'you got message' sms notifies and post it here. I think it's kind of cool, but I'm too lazy to downgrade my rom just to get it.
I've just downgraded to the same ROM as you and I'm fine sending and receiving calls using my O2 and Vodafone sim cards (both from UK). I'm currently in UK but have also used this rom in China without problems.
The only difference between your and my setup is that I currently have radio 1.38.00.10. Yours is 1.16.00.00 which is (I think) the radio which comes with pof's CID/SIM unlocker - because the original shipped radio with this rom is 1.06.00.10. This suggests that the phone is super CID (a good start).
The radio is a bit old (which could be the problem) so I'd suggest upgrading it to at least 1.27.00.00 - but you'll have to read the threads and do some experimenting to find the best one for you. You can get the radios here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms.
Before you upgrade the radio use olipro's hardspl 2.10 (V7) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722. An error during radio upgrades is the quickest way to brick your phone and hardspl 2.10 will allow you an easy way to recover from this.
I am facing the same problem in order to add TIM Brasil, however I am not finding any cab file with the configurations
Someone could help me, please please?

[HOW TO] Upgrading to WM6 - A checklist of how it works

Hello everybody.
I had installed "TouchFLO Charmer WM6_GER ver. 2.8 BETA by mschmitz" over an WM5 T-Mobile MDA compact II (Charmer) and everything worked great.
see link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=331142
Now i cooked my own ROM (Charmer WM6) with some improvements and correct working German Input methods.
see Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2075053#post2075053
As there are several "how-to" here but all are spread around this forum, i will try to give a checklist how you probably not kill your device.
Print this checklist and search the forum for the how-to's.
Prerequisitions:
If something goes wrong, be sure to have a ROM of your Phoneprovider (e.g. T-Mobile WM 5 AKU 2.2 for a T-Mobile device).
If you sdo not have an original ROM, you can use this one to flash back to WM5 (i used this, do not worry that it is english): http://www.tm-phonedownloads.com/files/RUU_Compact ll_2060227_20602110_021921_T-MobileUK_Ship.exe
Backup your data! All will be lost after upgrading, or if anything goes wrong. You can use Sprite Backup (the only tool that allows upgrading from different WM versions - eg. from WM5 to WM6 - but you wil loose SMS. Use PPCPIMBackup Freeware to backup SMS).
Always use the corrrect ROM (do not use e.g. a MDA III ROM on an MDA II)
I also recommend to delete your Active Sync Partnership after upgrade (Active Sync/File/Delete Mobile Device) and let Active Sync setup a new one (otherwise you may have problems with File sync, sometimes an error pops up).
If you have problems to sync with outlook, it might be a problem with the restored data of SPRITE BACKUP as WM5 has a different database than WM6.
In case you geet an error "Error 8007000e" or similar do the following:
1) Hard Reset
2) Do NOT connect to Active Sync !!!
3) Restore your personal data (If you use Sprite backup select Merge, Level 1 but do NOT select "Migration Data" whern you get the filetree)
4) On your PocketPC start the program "Active Sync" (still NOT connected to PC)!
5) Go to Menu/Options and DELETE the partnership (e.g. "Windows PC").
All Syncroniced data will be deleted on the PocketPC (Contacts, Appointments, etc..), but they are still available in OUTLOOK on your PC.
6) Thereafter delete your Partnership also on the PC (Active Sync - File/elete Mobile Device).
7) Now connect your PocketPC to the Desktop PC and the Outlook data will be syncronized again without error.
You can try to start at point 4) maybe you do not need a hardreset/backup again, try....
After upgrading you should always delete the partnerships....
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now the upgrading steps. Make sure to check them all!
1) Unlock your device (CID and SIM). You have to CID unlock your device, or otherwise you cannot install a ROM that is e.g. not T-Mobile on an T-Mobile MDA.
How?
First of all you have to check what device (G3 or G4) and what Bootloaderversion (IPL/SPL) 1.x or > 2.x you have.
SOFT reset your device and note the red numbers that come.
If you have something like
IPL: 1.12 (or 1.12.000)
SPL 1.12.0000
you have an G3 device.
If IPL or SPL ends with 1 (e.g. 1.12.0001), you have an G4 device.
(0 is G3, 1 is G4)
Now check the first number.
1.12.xx is an Bootloader version 1 and 2.12.xx is 2, and so on.
I had an G3/Bootloader V1.x device, so I CANNOT say if it works for other devices.
For a G3 device you have to use Lockiwiz2b to SIM/CID unlock your device (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=249474).
For a G4 device you have to use Lockiwiz3 to SIM/CID unlock (dont know if it works)
Its easier to unlock an 1.xx. device, so unlock before upgrading (even with an official ROM)
You will NOT loose your data as no HARD reset is necessary. Lockiwiz will not harm your system (if you do the right thing).
2) Now that you have CID unlocked your device, check your Bootloader Version. WM6 can only be installed with an V2 Bootloader (IPL/SPL 2.x.xxx) or higher!!.
So if you have e.g. IPL/SPL 1.12.xx, you first have to upgrade your device with a more recent WM5. I installed T-Mobile WM5 AKU 2.2 and thereafter i had 2.20.xx
3) WM6 cannot be installed over WM6 !!!
If you allready have a WM6 on your Charmer, DOWNGRADE to WM5, thereafter install the new or updated WM6!
4) Install ROM and enjoy.
If soething went wrong, you can save your device by going to Bootloader mode (push and hold camera button and reset with stylus. When you see the 3 colored Screen, release Camera Button. Then you are in bootloader mode and you can flash the original ROM vie your PC and ActiveSync (thats why you should have a WM5 ROM by the hand)
Summary:
1) Check what device you have (G3/G4)
2) Check what Bootloader Version you have (1.xx.xx or > 2.xx.xx)
3) Unlock CID (and SIM) with Lockiwiz02 (G3) or Lockiwiz03 (G4)
If this did not work, STOP here and forget it, nothing is lost until here! If your device is not CID unlocked you will kill your device with a "non vendor" ROM
4) If your bootloader (IPL/SIP) is 1.xx.xx, first upgrade to 2.xx.xx via an official WM5 ROM upgrade (or check XDA-Developers ROMs), otherwise device is dead
5) If you allready have an WM6 on your device, downgrade to WM5 first!
6) Install WM6 and enjoy.

Ridingshark
You dont need to CID unlock the device to upgrade to WM6. In fact, CID unlocking works only on 1.xx bootloader, and once you've bought a device with 2.xx, you can't go back.
That's why, instead of cid unlocking, you can just use NO_ID RUU, which bypasses checking the VendorID in the flashing process. You can find it here: http://www.windowsceportal.hu/tartalom/programok/htc_charmer_upgradeut_noid.zip
Other than that, its a great thread. Making it sticky.

Add: WM6 can be installed with an V3 Bootloader (IPL/SPL 3.x.xxx also

Hello amoor.
I also had Bootloader version 1 and simply used the official AKU 2.0 upgrade from T-Mobile from their homepage.
Thereafter it was Bootloader Version 2.
If you do not have an original ROM, you can use this WM5 (Do not worry that it is in english): http://www.tm-phonedownloads.com/files/RUU_Compact ll_2060227_20602110_021921_T-MobileUK_Ship.exe.
Thereafter you can upgrade to WM6.

Who is CTRLPDA? Is it a forum member? We can't help you supporting ROMs not made in the forum cause we don't know the base then.
And what did you unhide? The extROM or what?
