HTC Monet - Lobster - internal gps? - HTC Monet

Anyone know if the HTC monet Lobster has an internal GPS chip that is not activated?
The reason why I am asking is I know someone who bought a lobster and can pick up satellites (using gpstest 1.04) and use tomtom, without a gps external receiver.

Lobster Tv with inbuilt gps!!!
Sorry to get you excited, but just installed gps test and nothing on mine. When scanning for gps it switches on bluetooth.so maybe it picked up someone elses? Nice thought though!

Yeah my mate phone does the same, he is positive no need for extra gps receiver.
I will do some more digging and ask him more questions tomorrow.

I actually tested my lobster with his, and mine didnt work.
We check the radio version and the rom version but they were identical.
I am curious to get to the bottom of what is going on.

wow this sounds quite interesting. I will try a GPS pogram tonite on my lobster and give the results 2morrow.
However i seriously doubt the lobster has a GPS chipset built in since the lobster phone is meant to be a budget HTC phone. Virgin sells it for like 40 pounds on pay as you talk tariff.

nope, tried it yesterday and doesnt work. i used GPSTEST 1.04, the same program your mate used and so far no signal from a gps.
Perhaps your friends lobster is probably those early prototype models

Phone upgrade suggestions?

I currently have a TMobile Pocket pc phone edition that i recently installed the WM2003 upgrade on, i love it.
Now i hear that there are XDA2 devices out, which sound like better, faster devices. I asked TMobile, and they say that as long as the phone supports GSM 1900 and can be unlocked to use any SIM card, switching phones is a piece of cake.
So i guess my question is, has anyone tried this? I would like to get a O2 XDA2 over the M1000. Has anyone gotten them to work on the TMobile network here in the USA? I'd hate to spend the money on the device and not have it work. Or would it be better if i wait for some (needed?) ROM upgrades?
Thanks a lot =)
Edit: Okay so i didnt type in the right keywords into google the first time. User review here basically answers all my questions:

BT stops Movio service

BT has discontinued the Movio service due to poor takeup and handset choice, as well as the unwillingness from networks other than Virgin UK to use DAB as their mobile TV standard.
So the quick question is- does this mean the the Virgin Lobster DAB service will stop?
Well, Virgin have confirmed that their DAB-IP service stops next year, so I've answered my own question!

TBH I haven't ever listened to the radio on my lobby.
However, just to test I tried this morning and Radio 2 was fine.

Telenav on an unlocked phone?

I recently got a Cingular 8525 to use on my T-Mobile network. It looks like Telenav is pretty much completely over the internet, which seems like what I want since most GPS software needs a lot of space for maps. The only problem is that I asked Telenav and they said their software doesn't work on unlocked phones. Has anyone done this anyway? If so, how did you register?
It works on an unlocked phone I use a TyTN ll and have no problem. Just pick out a similar phone in tmob and register. I had a 8525 and used the Mogul sprint software and now I use the 8925 ATT.

Well, I downloaded it and got it to work. Unfortunately, it's not nearly as nice as I had hoped. The only way to input information is with the standard keyboard, which doesn't work in the car. There is a call-in feature, but that would just use up minutes. The integration with contacts doesn't seem to work at all.
The biggest issue, though, is that it tells you to "Turn Now" as much as a quarter mile in advance. There's also no way to change this. It'll tell me to turn almost two or three streets in advance. Now, I'm all for early warnings. But it will say, "Turn Now" on 10th ave when I have to turn on 8th. That makes it pretty darned useless for city driving. Oh well, it looks like I'll be sticking with tomtom.

question about Ty Tn

Does Htc TyTn ( not II ) support GPS and can I add Navigator Maps ?!!
Gps antenna

Gps antenna
You will need to purchase an antenna to receive satelite info.
Once you link it with your bluetooth enabled phone, your software will work.
I believe ther a some hermes that have a built in gps but if yours did you wouldn't be asking.
look here they start around 60 dollars

ALL Hermes have the chip, unfortunately they don't have the receiver... As stated, you need a bluetooth receiver and the software to run. Don't bother asking for maps as that is commercial software and must be paid for. There are sites out there that you can find these things for free but not here....

Well it works sometimes......the gps is the only thing that disappointments me with this phone....
If you are using the newest Alltel radio (1.12.20F) the GPS is terrible. Try a different radio. I'm running the Verizon 1.03.09V radio and GPS is working great.
yeah thats the radio ive been using you have no probs with the verizon radio? never messed with the radios before.
I've been using the Verizon radio for a few weeks with no issues. I've been getting decent battery life with it too. I used the Sprint 1.03.15F Radio for a while too with no issues.
I've seen two Alltel Touch Pros personally that the 1.12.20F radio killed the GPS. Change the radio and everything was back to normal.
That verizon radio worked google maps found 9 sats, no more iffy alltel nav problems.. thanks.
