Pagepool Changing , How to do it? - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom Software Upgrading

I found out many info after reading other threads about pagepool editing.
Jiggs open my ideas to read and have an info about pagepool editing.
With this site, he discussed it in a simple way:

How To: Adjust PagePool for the XDA Atom

Tools:
1. Image file of the atom diskimage_Ver.nb0
2. Hex Editor
Instructions:
1. locate the first occurrence of the following hex values:
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF 9B 4F FF FF 64 B0 00 00
2. You will see something like this:
{

4MB = 00 00 40 00
6MB = 00 00 60 00
8MB = 00 00 80 00
Our Atom comes with 8MB pagepool, after experimenting though, 4MB is okay, 2MB still works though... It's your choice.
3. Of course, you need to flash back the new ROM to your device.
Very simple instructions and straight forward.
Because of this I thought pagepool editing can be done only by editing NBO FILE and we really need to flash back our atom. Like discussed also in other forum device.

Change pagepool size! The EASY way!

Fist of all! All credits go to paradis_pal because he came with this solution for the prophet. I've just edited the offset to make it work for the touch (should work for the wing too as they share the offset)!
Also thanks to Paul from Modaco for his guide to do it manually!
It's now possible to change the pagepool size of a rom (4, 6, 8 and 12 mb) with this tool and just a soft reset afterwards!
I strongly recommend flashing USPL before doing this. It isn't necessary, but if you're device fails to start you want to be able to flash a rom from bootloader!
Steps to take:
- Download and Unpack "Change pagepool size TOUCH.zip"
- Connect your device with activesync!
- Copy EnableRapi.cab to your device and run it
- Make a safety backup using "backup.bat" (takes only a few seconds) and check if there's a file called "backup.nb" afterwards!
- run the bat (takes only a few seconds) with the pagepool size of your choice! (ex: 4mb = 4mb pool.bat)
- Soft reset and enjoy your new pagepool size!
If anything goes wrong you can flash back the old value with restore.bat!
Use at your own risk!

if you want to test it then please backup first using backup.bat and restore by restore.bat if you have errors, then softreset
no need to hard reset or install new Rom, just soft rest
please use this at your own risk, don't do it unless you know what it is
first install EnableRapi.cab I'll attach it
in shortcut, this will change the memory for youlike this:
4mb pool.bat will make the total memory 52mb
6mb pool.bat will make the total memory 50mb
8mb pool.bat will make the total memory 48mb
12mb pool.bat will make the total memory 44mb the official.
it will take only few seconds, 1 or 2 seconds
only now softreset no need to hardrest or format
you may backup the old byte by backup.bat and restore by restore.bat
please don't blame me if you do anything wrong
and just wish me best of luck if this works for you as I

Im trying now to figure out if we can do this easy way to our ATOM. Im already trying to communicate to the thread and see their opinion.
Jiggs, can we do this in our atom? Just asking bro...thanks a lot

...if we manage to pull this off, COOL! It would save tons of time on testing and reflashing. I hope it can be done.
Also, if there was a way to simply flash a small part of the ROM without forcing a hard reset, I think we'd all love that too. The one thing I miss from the O2 Mini is that I could easily throw in a bootload screen without junking my entire install base.

Hi Generalriden,
Did you get my pm re Resco Explorer 2007?
I've read all these, that's why I was asking about the procedure of changing the page pool without re flashing the rom, hoping that we can use it in our atom..It would be taxing to reflash..

I have requested already the developer of the Smart Pagepool Changer. SharkinDark. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on our device yet. Although he said that the device info is already included in his program and should work.
When I use his program, it simply says its CID Locked. I'm not sure how to go about it. CID is new to me. All the while I thought we were CID unlocked because we can flash any ROM anytime.
You can follow the thread I requested from him since September 11, 2007.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326006
I always update using SD Card (256mb) method. So, updating for me only takes 10min max especially when I do a lot of testing. BUT THIS REQUIRES THE EXACT FORMAT FOR SD CARD FLASHING. Renaming diskimage_ver.nb0 to diskimg.nbo IS NOT ENOUGH!

Another Himalaya WM2003SE ROM Package: 2.20.904

Updated 1-2-2006 22:25
Although I planned this almost a year ago, I finally migrated succesfully to WM2003SE. I decided to go for the only 'official' version: 2.20.07 as the main OS. Offcourse I used the WWE translated version by mamaich and buzz_lightyear.
The Ext_ROM is quite generic but does contain T-Mobile NL specific GPRS settings. There is NO T-Mobile skinning! And I love my self-made HTC Himalaya splash-screens 8)

Info:
OS 2.20.07CHS (translated to WWE)
Radio 1.18
Ext 2.20.904 (also includes WWE help-files)
Extra info:
There are occasional places where you will notice names in 'strange'characters (mainly square boxes). These are places where de translation was not possible / done.:
- Some folder names: Seems possible to delete these
- Network settings: You can rename them (but not delete)
Some files in My Documents (ie IA Caller ID Pictures and templates) are stored with system/hidden/etc properties that prevent Activesync to sync these files. Use (the enclosed CE Total Commander) to unchek all properties changeable to prevent this behaviour
(included links as upload in thread did not work, use cut&paste to download!)
Extended ROM only:

the forum mess up your ftp url's or at least it does in firefox
but copy paste and remove a space fixed it
Another coool WM2003se release
Thnx I'll give it a bash
fixed the links.
Is there anyway to bypass the country ID error? When i try upgrading using your ROM, i always encounter this problem. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks edsub for the beautiful splash screen.
I updated the diamond version to this one. Problem was to keep al my installed programs intact, but using sprite backup and manually copying the storage everything was back as it used to be. The interesting point is, that the PDA gives the extended rom from diamond as being installed while the new ones are seen in the remove program utility
Neither can I find the help files other than in chinese (that means blocks on the screen) so it isn't quiet complete yet. As far as I can see the OS is more stable and a fractional faster. Any help to complete the make over
Next: after a cold reboot there seems to be no ext.rom installed at all (as far as the program tells), only after a restore it's back. Does it has anything to do with PersaveBackup?
This morning I migrated to WM2003se, I bypassed the Country ID following the procedure written by dcs.
All seems ok but I have noticed isn't anymore installed "Graffiti" that I usually use to write. Anyone knows where I can dowmload the program ?
Thanks
After some experiments I went back to the Diamond ROM because I had trouble with the phonesignal: no ringtones. And the pda hesitated a lot during routeplanner, problems with the mediaplayer, problems with the Ext. rom. I guess everything is to solve but it costs me a lot of time and most of all: I mist several phonecalls because i didn't hear the ring.
@henk-jan strange. there IS a ext rom in the package (ms_.nbf) should work as normal. one possibility: did you have the extrom unlocked when resetted the device? as the files are not readonly they are then deleted after 1st use.
ringtones & help are installed from extrom, so again same reason. as is performance while navigating.
I now have my wizard but 2.20 was way better than diamond
@Ed: I know there is a Ext.rom and it is shown in the explorer, but the device info doesn't show the Ext rom version
Going back to the diamond rom the same happens so it must be a problem in my Qtek2020.
Why do you consider V 2.20 (chinees) better then 2.06 (diamond)
Diamond was based of the 2.06 test ROM.
It was relatively stable, but also slow. And BT did not always work as expected (there was a patch for the hide&seek bt icon issue however)
2.20.07 is much faster, has all the BT support you need and has WMP10
But I must admit its also a matter of taste: I switched over when I had performance issues with 2.06. But those issues were there in 2.20 also (fixed by setting up cache for filesystem and the vulome priority hack)
About your ExtROM: The versio number is set by one of the cabs. In y rom that was the cab with the version number 2.20.904 in the name.
I cant imaging that did not run, but after all: all the issues you name can be caused by not installing from ExtROM in the first place.
I think the start program in the ext rom doesn't run. It is installed on the pda, but didn't run I guess.
Perhaps 2.06 is a bit slower but e registry hack and a speeding up utility solves that, but most of all: it works as it has to. I didn't get that with 2.20
So I take it for adventage. Thanks for your help.
Problem solved: playing with WM 5 and installing the DOC tool from Buzz_lighyear I changed the Ext rom and storage memory. Putting it back to the original state everything is OK now and the 2.20 is running smoothly on my PDA. Only frustrating to re-install all the programs one by one because sprite restores also the problems back.
This ROM is French ??
Hello to all,
I begin in the field of the ROMs and I would have some questions.
- Is this new ROM in Frenchwoman?
- Later upgrade of the ROM, I may restore an ancient(former) protection since Active Sync?
Thank you in advance...

You are not right on 100% Some of the specific applications and root sertificates really can't be installed.
I tried to remove the sertificate from custom keyboard that I can't install - and its installed with no problems. The problem is to install applications with some kind of sertificates i think...
But all soft I use has no problem to install: SpbPhoneSuite, SpbWeather, SpbPocketPlus, BatteryStatus, Cash Organizer, Vehicle Manager, Resco Explorer and many others (including customized Commanagers, keyboards and others).

Many thanks for the astunishing release part 2!!!
A lot of issues especially something "long been ignored" such as the "slow scroll" have been attended.
Wonder if it is a good idea for you to cook a "Far-East friendly version" with the wince.nls supporting Chinese regions like EVO8en, Mysterious and Gullum's multi-language version had done.
This is critical for Chinese readers because a post-flash-overwritten wince.nls can ALWAYS distablize an otherwise perfect rom.
Thanks for your effort again and look forward to the Far-East friendly version's release^^
Wow, this release is fantastic: very fast and without any big problem..
There are only 3 things I would change:
1- Old Arcsoft MMS (it's so old that the network wizard doesn't work with it and I have to manually change the settings when I change the SIM card
2- Old Midlet Manager (having few issues with some midlets)
3- The Font in the Comm Manager
If there is a way to fix these two things it would be the ROM for me
Thanks Korand!!

Quick information
1.Check your device..either it is G3 or G4..
2.Do the HardSPL.
3. copy/put your rom (nk.nbf) into Rom update utility..
follow the instruction & you're done..
further info

or maybe you might try to hard reset after flashing it but stuck on the boot screen..
or try flash it all over again..
all of this come from my own experience..
goodluck
Pretty good rom. I've had to install more than I'm used to having to get it all how I want it, but it's still fast after the stuff's installed and at least there's room for it!
Sad news is Contacts isn't working. I've had this before on other roms sometimes but I don't know ow to work round it.
Thanks!

Signing Diamond Radio ROM's as being Raphael's

Dear all,
Once again i start a thread referring to HEX code
If you have a security unlocked Raphael and yo wish to use a Diamond radio ROM [at least in Portugal it proved to be MUCH more effective] you can flash it by following two different procedures:
:: RAPHAEL SIGNED DIAMOND ROM'S REPOSITORY ::
1.00.25.05
1.00.25.16
:: QUITE EASY :: NOT SO FAST :: NOT SO SAFE ::
1. Flash your radio ROM via a Windows PC
2. Flash your radio ROM with the standard wrapper
:: MUCH SAFER :: QUITE FASTER :: NOT SO EASY ::
I. If you do not have a windows PC
II. If you want to be almost sure the flashing process will be smooth and with no trouble at all.
III. If you want to flash your radio ROM ensuring the process will be fast and clean
IV. If you are comfortable with HEX Editing
1. Open your nbh ROM file with a HEX Editor
2. Find the string value DIAM***** or the code 44 49 41 4D 2A 2A 2A 2A 2A [Byte 65 (Line 2)]
3. Change the string value to RAPH***** or to the code 52 41 50 48 2A 2A 2A 2A 2A [Byte 65 (Line 2)]
4. Save the file
5. Rename it after RAPHIMG.nbh
6. Place it on the root of your SD Card
7. Be sure to have at least 50% of battery charge
8. Boot the device into bootloader [Vol. down + Soft reset]
9. Follow on-screen instructions
NOTES
1. Even if your device is security unlocked, if you use a standard Diamond radio ROM, using the SD Card flash method you will get a device error.
2. If you sign the file as being Raphael's instead of Diamond's you will no longer get the above mentioned error and yet, you will get the correct radio version given the fact the code is exactly the same. Only the signing header changes
3. If you perform a binary compare you will see that the difference between the Raphael signed and the Diamond signed files is only 4 characters [DIAM / RAPH].
4. This process is quite fast and pretty straightforward
5. If you need any help or if you have any doubts please DO ask before you do anything. You can avoid quite some problems.
Good luck and cheers!
P.S. Tank you for your collaboration JCEspi2005
If you are not sure how use an HEX editor, this is another way to get a raphael flaseable file from a Diamond Radio NBH file...
First download the attached file, and extract in a folder. This package contains the NBHExtract tool to get the NB file from the Diamond NBH file, and the HTCRomTool.
1. When you have all files in the folder, first step is getting the radio NB file. Drag and Drop the NBH file into NBHExtract.exe to get the NB one.

}
2. Start the htcrt.exe file and in Build tab, select Raphael device and choose the radio NB file extracted in step before as show next image.
Press Build button and save the file as RUU_Signed.NBH and overwrite the old (diamond) one. Use this NBH file with Raphael CustomRUU to flash or use the SD card flash method described in first post.
Cheers

Cumprimentos.

Is the reverse also possible? Porting Raphael ROMS to Diamond?
By the way, why would one use a Diamond ROM... to me, it seems like asking for compatibility issues with your Raphael?
Ehm about that all TP are locked part. If you can flash a radio ROM your device isn't locked, correct?"If yes than I have to disagree with you on the locked part. I didn't unlock anything, except Hard_SPL that is. I thought it was the other way around. All original HTC TP are unlocked and all branded are locked.

mmm not sure about raphael radio ROMs, but perhaps the same with security unlock. about the "why", i come from Kaiser, and flashed many niki and neon radio ROMs on my Kaiser. So the answer for me is "and why not". You can test more radio ROMs and find a better one for you...

There are three locks on TP, SIM Lock, CID Lock and Security Lock (and really another one, regional Lock). You can flas a radio ROM only with hardSPL but you'll get in troubles...
Read this for more info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2566863&postcount=28 and the whole thread...
Cheers
I read that thread. I wasn't trying to be ignorant when I flashed my Raphael. I read a few comments of people who got an error when flashing a locked Raphael, so I just assumed it wouldn't work if your device wasn't unlocked. Since I didn't receive an error whatsoever I again assumed my device was unlocked.
I took another look at the Wiki. It implies (maybe just to me) that a Raphael can be flashed with a radio just using hard SPL, but that a Diamond does need to be security unlocked. If not, I'm really curious what the "problems" might be. I went from .19 to .32 and am now using .28 without any problems (on my ROMeOS 1.40).

You could ask someone nicely to upload one they've edited and flashed succesfully and see if that works for you, have you got it working again yet or does it still go into the bootloader? If so grab an original Raph radio and flash that, it will load normally then.
B**** uu never gonna get it work unless have security unlock ....
as a sumup, three things to watch out for if you want to make a diamond radio nbh to flash on a touchpro...
- be security unlocked (not needed if you just want to flash radio signed for touchpro, i.e. not taken from diamond rom)
- in nbh tool, RAPH***** as modelid
- in nbh tool, 0x301 for radio nbh type, not 0x300

I think this is the problem, wil try again. where must i put the 0x301 code?
Yep i flashed an original Raph so it works for now but i am not charmed off the Raph radio's.
Before i had a Diamonddevice that was much better.
I've got a bit of a problem with the SD Flash Method, and I prefer to ask here, that creating a new topic.
OK, I'm trying to flash a Raphael ROM, so need to change anything in HEX Editor, I name the .NBH file RAPHIMG.NBH and put it on the SD card (a standard microSD 2GB Kingston, formated with StorageTools as FAT32 512 bytes sector (/fs:FAT32/a:512))I put the RAPHIMG.NBH on the SD card useing a card reader and go in Bootloader, and than it sais "No Image Found!".

[HOWTO] GT-I9100 Free SIM Unlock via nv_data.bin by Odia

Free SIM Unlock for SGS2 by Odia. (ONLY for HW Version MP 1.200)
1. Root your phone.
2. Extract your nv_data.bin
3. Look at the file with an hex-editor and goto offset 0x181460 (Ultra Edit, HxD, Hex-Workshop etc)
4. Take the hashes from 0x18146e (20 bytes), 0x18148e, 0x1814ae, 0x1814ce, 0x1814ee
5. If the hash is 7D 3E 17 CF CD 81 6C AC D4 E0 25 FA A6 50 04 FD D1 7D 51 F8 ignore it since that is 00000000
6. Put the hash into the BF exe for example:-
ighashgpu.exe /h:EF63BF26E2382917D96850CCF9632458EE6E6C77 /t:sha1 /c:d /max:8 /min:8 /salt:0000000000000000
and wait for it to finish, do that for each hash which is not zeros, the Found password: [50681318] is the code.
7. Put unaccepted simcard in the phone and when it asks for the unlock code enter them in order
8. Job done, phone is now unlocked for free.
If you cannot find a block which looks like hashes @ 0x181460, then search for SSNV and add 5216, but from the files which I have seen the block appears to be fixed @ 0x181460.
If it will not accept the code which you believe to be correct, it means the attempts have been used up, so you need to use the MCK code to unfreeze your phone, note it will not request unfreeze code, just say network lock unsucessful even your code is valid. (MCK HASH is @ offset 0x180049)
Added an example for what you need to look for.
Mastercode
Dynamic located PERSO section, holds the mastercode (MCK / unfreeze), search for PERSO and look for a hash, can be multiple old sections, added screendump with an example.
MCK HASH is also in the SSNV section @ offset 0x180049

Grab that file from the device and pop me a PM. I presume you know how to get ADB up and running?
OK. Sorta bad news. I can't see a way to retrieve the code itself from the file...
On another note, I DO notice that at address 0x181468, we see the semi-familiar pattern of FF 01 00 00 00 00 ...
On an unlocked phone, that was FF 00 00 00 00 00 (I checked earlier)
This fits in with the information at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761045, namely "Change any 0x01 to 0x00 (or 0x00 to 0x01 to lock for warranty)"
That suggests there is a possibility a free unlock could be gained by editing this file. But there would likely be consequences. As such I'm not going to recommend that, nor give instructions for it... If anyone chooses to, they do it 100% at their own risk, and should bear in mind that they NEED a backup of that and the corresponding md5sum first.
But I can't see an unlock code in plaintext
Anyway, that should be food for thought for someone who has a desire to mess about with their device. I won't be trying it for now, and I recommend you don't unless you know what to do to fix this, and are aware you are messing with stuff I don't know much about...

Scared are we?
Pretty understandable tbh, I was kinda hoping it was as easy to unlock as the SGS but maybe there is still a way...let's hope so.
Just want to say, hex editing doesnt work. Doesn't detect sim and you get no signal, just put old file back and all works. Looks like we're gonna need another fix.
Quick question, can anyone who has an unlocked device please send me there nv_data.bin.
I want to see if there are any other differences that could be keeping it locked.

I diffed an unlocked and locked one, and there's a lot of differences at binary level
I would need to ask the guy whose unlocked nv_data I borrowed if he was OK with that, or see if someone else has one...
Also, I did think. Perhaps it "rejects" the file if the MD5 thing doesn't match. If it's a salted MD5, then it could check the md5 of the bin file salted against a "secret" string, and then compare to the contents of the md5sum file...
When I tried putting the old file back i used all the same commands, and it said there was no md5 sum. Which would be expected to be honest. But maybe it requires one. Ill try again this time leave the md5. Doubt it'll work, but its worth ago
EDIT: Faliure again!
Also as a note, cannot be anything to do with the md5 sum, just removed and it still works, so it cannot be checking values against it.

Should be. We are switching a bit from 0 to 1 - not adding anything
You can have my nv_data.bin if you want... my handset used to be locked to O2 but has been unlocked.
(and I've manually changed the ProductCode by editing nv_data.bin as well, not that that should make a difference)
Let me know, and I'll PM it to you

Yeah it's worth a shot. Do you have your original file as well? This suggests you managed to edit it fine, and it still worked...
We have tried switching the flag for locked to 0x00, from 0x01, but it didn't work. Would be interesting to see the file though after using a code, to see if the flag is now at 0x00
Really what we might need is a BEFORE and AFTER from an unlock.
ie. anyone getting a code, could you get a dump of this file BEFORE the unlock, then enter the code, and then RE-dump to another file. Call them before and after perhaps? Then we can see what actually happened after the unlock - perhaps a checksum gets re-calculated, or a second "backup" bit was flipped that we missed?
My email, for anyone wanting to send their file (it's only 2 MB so goes fine as an attachment) is (the lines stop OCR gathering it for spam =D)

Hey Math,
there are I9103-devices with tegra2-chipsets out there. Not sure how different the firmware would be for those but I guess samsung had to find a way to make the one mechanism work for both sgs2-devices...
