How-To build an OEM Package:
An OEM Package is just a simple folder containing files and registry settings for the ROM
First of all you'll need a GUID number for your Package.
Go to http://www.famkruithof.net/uuid/uuidgen to get one.
In my case:
283b9db7-cb03-4c1b-820e-ca49b2c3b5db
Necessary steps:
Create a new folder:
OEM/[Your package name]/
Create a empty text file:
OEM/[Your package name]/283b9db7-cb03-4c1b-820e-ca49b2c3b5db.dsm
(The Kitchen will finish this file for you)
If needed:
Create an UNICODE text file:
OEM/[Your package name]/283b9db7-cb03-4c1b-820e-ca49b2c3b5db.rgu
This file could be used to add registry entries to the ROM
First line is:
REGEDIT4
...
and there MUST be a empty line at the end!!
Create an UNICODE text file:
OEM/[Your package name]/initflashfiles.txt
This file could be used to create folders or copy files on the ROM.
Example: Open OEM/OEM_Lang_0409/initflashfiles.dat using a text editor
*Do Not Edit This*
Copy all files you need to OEM/[Your package name]/
If you want an OEM package made and cant do it yourself then donate to the Athena Project and PM me the cab

I agree that some of the other forums have been overrun with people making their own ROMs and posting them, but it might be a nice idea for there to be one thread where people can share their work with others if they have cooked their own ROM. When I had my Hermes, I liked looking at what other people had done and it gave people a bit more choice. I'm not saying that PK3.0 isn't incredible (it truly is!) but there might be people who would like to try something else and maybe don't trust themselves with the ROM kitchen.
Hats off to midget for this fine kitchen!

Hi Midget,
Congratulations with the kitchen
I don't own a Athena (Omni is my priority), but I sertainly have a look at this kitchen and see what I can use for the UNI.
Thanks,
Leo

Just sond my hermes, getting an athena soon, and i think its great that here in the athena forum, you have a rula stopping every man and his dog like you said, posting roms. In hermes, everyday, theres some new cook, who just strips down schaps roms, or adds some random program to a rom. There are very few true cooks, and i think you have the right idea here, not letting everyone add their own very indifferent roms to clutter the forum. Maybe it would be an idea to make a thread to either post oem packages, (ive never had much luck making them) or their roms. But i guess then people would discuss each and evey rom in the same thread, and it would be impossible to get the information you need.
Anyways, looking forward to donating to the athena project, and getting ym athena. Is the athena project still going?

ROM Cooking for beginners - manual attached

Hi all,
I made this manual in order to help people like myself to better understand ROM cooking basics.
It was ment to be used for Prophet ROMs, but since it uses HyperCore Kitchen, it can be practicaly used for any WM6 ROM.
Please be free to post your comments and/or suggestions.
NOTE: This manual reffers only to "old" way of ROM cooking (first downgrading to WM5, and then flashing to WM6)
If you find it useful, please vote.
Thanks to:
Gullum (for great ROMs)
Anichillus (for great Kitchen)
Cloudyfa (for Step1 ROM)

No, thank you!! I will look into it.
me too
i like this
Thanks for your effort, this is a really good guide.
I just wanted to ask is there a difference between ROMs built this way and ROMs that we flash using new Hard/SoftSPL method.
I saw nb2nbf tool, so is it possible to just convert OS.nb file and flash it using new method or is there some more work that needs to be done?
thank you
I really need it !
Ill check it out this weekend! Seems like fun to me
I have red this guide and it is very clear, very thourough and a big help to anyone starting to cook! THANKS!!
(@ allothers that are missing some extra's: it is NOT an advanced course! So, don't complain but take an example and publish your own knowledge and experience this way. Then everyone can benefit)
Initiatives like these are giving back the original gaoal of this website, it isn't called "xda-developers" for nothing.
Perhaps someone can make a tutorial for skinning standard OS-parts (commanager, dialer, calculator, etc...) Or how to translate your favorite ROM to your own language?
you can't use this way to create XIP from Shadow's ROM, Crystal V5. ROM or from Korand's ROM.
If someone can make this XIP.. Could anyone share the file...
with that file. I can make a new ROM based on new OS..

Never flashed any of these ROMs you specified - so if their XIPs can't be dumped using Dump XIP tool from the HyperCore Kitchen, than I won't bother with them. Let me add that ROM cooker can also remove RGU files from ROM before posting, making it very difficult for someone to modify it. Then I'll skip such ROM too.
But...
FACTS
- This manual was intended for beginners.
- When you are a beginner in ROM cooking you don't like to be confused, but want it all to be clear to you before you do anything to your expensive device.
- I see that you are using modified Touch ROM, which can be dumped with this method.
- I also use modified Touch ROM, but I will not post it - there is enough good ROMs out there already
Cheers!
Hi All - my first post
Thanks for this Phnikola, I'm brand new to all this (smartphone) stuff and need a place to start. Looks good so far.
My TC500 never was in the shops, has no support and no official upgrade path (hmmm...) but there are a few cunning points concerning SIP and home landline "awareness" in the original ROM I'd like to take with me up into WM6.1 (got Cloudyfa's Shadow 2.0 TE ready to go).
Any1 have any good advice for me?
Thanks again

Yes it does, but you don't have to cook your own ROM. Just wonder around a bit on this forum and pick a ROM that suits you.

Request Custom made ROMs here (it's what YOU want) Back up :)

I offered this same service for the Kaiser and the Hermes (just now for the Hermes) and a lot of people seemed to like it so i thought i'd bring it here. It'll bring a lot more load on me, but i'm on summer vacation until the 25th and then school starts (will continue to do this even when i have school hopefully).
Most chefs tend to cook what the majority of the people like including myself. When i cooked my first ROM and asked people for feedback/suggestions, i did get a few programs that everybody liked but there were many suggestions of programs that each different user liked. So i could have cooked Livcast in which Joe wanted, but Mary wouldn't use it at all; that kind of thing
I couldn't get anybody to cook what i wanted so i did it myself So i'm opening up this thread for ANYBODY who has a request to cook a ROM which can include ANY program (or rather anything they want). I will cook commercial programs, but will NOT include any license/registration key; that's up to you to get. The format should look something like this:
Programs: Thousands of these.
Games: Thousands of these to
Version: Here you can tell me whether you want a cube version, non-cube version, diamond build, etc.
Other: Whatever else you'd like.
Preferred Upload Host: Have problems with RS? No problem, just tell me the site and i'll upload it there. I can also upload to Jannaa's blogspot thanks to her generosity!
You can help aplace4u.biz to stay free.
Chances are that I probably have access to the programs you want, so i'll make them to an OEM if i don't already have them.
I really want a Raphael/Fuze to so if you can, help me in getting one, i'd appreciate any support. This is 100% FREE and i'd like to help as much as I can, but if you can/are able to, i have PAYPAL ksallstar2013 at yahoo.
Reserved, just in case.
Pssshh, you shoulda just put the programs on it for me, not sent me to your FTP. Haha jk, Although I need the pass to the .rar file.

Ah, ignore the email i just sent
Radio is a software thing that can be changed. You could use the same radio for two countries, however you have to find the best fit one.
My laptop has been a living nightmare, so yesterday i took it to Best Buy so that they can fix it for me. So as soon as it's back, i'll get going with all of this!! Thanks for the support

Actually, there are two different kitchens for each and i don't want to take a chance at messing up your device because they "look the same." If i have time, i'll go into the Diamond and see its whatabouts and get back to you (when i get my laptop back) Currently, i'm on my bro's computer (vista :\)

Hello everyone!
As and when HardSPL is finalised for the Raphael, we can begin cooking, and releasing ROMs.
Anything in the Official (Shipped) ROMs you want removed can be removed, and (virtually) anything you want added can be added.

ROM cooking is not identical, but is similar. I'll go and grab a copy of the latest WWE ROM and try and apply those changes. It'll be an unsigned ROM though.
Alternatively, if you want to cook it yourself, you'll need to delete the OEM packs that have the names corresponding to the app (windows live is a SYS program, as is Windows Update and User Feedback), and look for all the files with names like "config.txt" and delete lines such as "CAB: \Windows\Opera.CAB" as they are cabs for Opera. There is one for manila as well.

First things first, remove the "PACKAGE_DIAMOND_MANILA" OEM pack.
Also remove the 0409 OEM pack (first make sure it contains only
Code:

mxipupdate_oemoperators_WeatherCityBase.provxml
_2330fc3c_manila
*** Note: not all Diamond ROMs contain this! ***
Finally, you have to remove the manila_PT_Reg.cab file, and the line associated with it in a config.txt file.
Thanx man for ur good and quick reply

where do i found this config, txt file? in the OEM folder or SYS folder?

Besides the regular cooking it would be nice to see some adjustments on the home screen:
Make the clock, normal small digits so we get room back for other things, like seeing my agenda below it.
Also there is a good working CAB to get the Call history in the icons below so we can get rid of the line with big title under the clock.
Thanks, Bastiaan

Raphael ROM Kitchen... Or lack there of?

Hi I'm not that new to cooking ROMS, but I'm by no means an expert when it comes to making one myself.
I have been reading and reading and searching but I can't find a nice clean easy to use kitchen for the GSM Touch Pro anywhere.
My Touch Pro(actually, it's an AT&T Fuze) will be arriving this Thursday(Jan 15th) and I would really love to be able to build my own custom ROM and possibly release it to the community but the community seems to be somewhat lacking in the "Kitchen Department".
I took a good look at NotATreoFan's kitchen. Every OEM is lacking an option.xml file and there are no tools included to actually build the ROM.
I looked at jcespi2005 and JugglerLKR's kitchen and that kitchen seems very non-user friendly.
Coming back to GSM from a CDMA Community, may I ask why there are no complete, user-friendly kitchens here in the GSM world? CDMA has the PPCKitchen, they have tobeychris&Ghettofreeryder's Diamond Kitchen, and they have electronicrice's kitchen for the Touch Pro(CDMA).
I just don't understand why no kitchen like that exists for the GSM Touch Pro. I think it's a really good idea to have a user-friendly kitchen because then anyone can make their own custom ROMs and then you have more variety because everyone has their own style.
Just my 2 cents...
Dan.
i prefer using jcespi's kitchen it is very userfriendly.
On xda you can find the simple steps.
Or do you want a kitchen that does everything on command at it own
just kidding here's a link http://rapidshare.com/files/151114881/Raphael_ROM_Kitchen_v0.62.rar
hmm, the raph kitchens buildos looks almost exactly like ppckitchens buildos, but instead of holding your hand it gives you freedom..
if you prefer the easy to use gui with pre assembled packages, why not use ppckitchen?

Yeah I gotta agree with that. Ive tried ppckitchen and i couldnt handle the lack of control over my files.
If you comfortable with splitting out the payload give Da_Gs kitchen a look. It is fast and has the newest build OS which i think is more efficient. Its posted in the raphael kitchen thread on one of the last pages.
If it helps ive got a small tool which will make the option.xml files in batch form?
Simple process:
get your packages into a common folder
make sure they all have a dsm inside with a valid guid
drag the common folder onto the program
type in the group name you want
the tool creates the option.xml for each package with its name being the folder name and the group being that which you entered at the start.
it defaults the checked values to "true" aswell.
Am at work at the mo so cant post it but will do when i get home if thats any help to anyone?

Guys
I'm all about getting into this stuff forehead deep so I grabbed jcespi's kitchen tossed my nbh from the stock cingular rom for the fuze just to get started to see if I could figure this out. Am reading through his docu's but I'm a conceptual techie I can talk it but in the onset rely on advice and coaching that being said none of you are baby sitter. Where would you suggest someone in dilemma start; I'd like to contribute more can pick up stuff pretty quickly just need a good starting place to get the hang of this so I too can where maybe a chef's bandana lol. Any advice is as always much appreciated!
While I'm primarily a conceptual techie; I do get my hands dirty once they are dirty enough I won't ask the redundant and sometimes dumbe questions... I promise ... going to download that other kitchen referenced above as I am more of a visual learner and don't mind microwaving some ROMs before I actually pan fry or bake anything.

This is exactly why I posted this. I'm not looking for a GUI kitchen or anything like that but I am looking for a base kitchen that doesn't involve extensive modification before it can be used.
I will have my Touch Pro by tomorrow afternoon and I want to be able to contribute to the GSM community just like I did for the CDMA community.
i read this thread so here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3171470#post3171470
have fun
(oem rom sys in my thread will work with this, ill make an easier to use one later)
Obviously you didn't read my idiots guide for rom ccoking & use the easybake kitchen, which makes roms with five easy steps involving only deleting or adding packages & 4 mouse clicks.

Actually I did read that and I'm not a fan of that method. I prefer a clean base and not a decompiled carrier ROM. Decomped carrier ROMS can become very messy very fast...

Think Dev_Id and Chunk are correct, but don't know about OS_Id (shouldn't it be 0x400)?
Were can you find this info? Anybody?

This is 372 MB!
Greetings
edit:I tryed to upload a visual kitchen you can create a kitchenfor iolite with it, but it wouldn´t upload. Lay in hospital - use UMTS surfstick
Me utilities interest to disassemble build... How xip to get?
When I´m back from hospital, I´ll give some files for cooking, but not the entire kitchen. Will be 1,03 GB!
I can is wrong I am expressed! I translate from the translator. I have a native assembly, it is necessary to disassemble on SYS, OEM and XIP. What program can be made it?
Ervius visual kitchen works.
I shall go to search. Thanks!
P.S. What devices are assorted by this kitchen?

lolite rom cooking help

I've managed to cook and flash successfully my first rom with ervius visual kitchen. Nothing special, just update of official wwe rom with 21054 XIP & SYS.
I get always an error with latest version of visual kitchen, no matter if I changed something or not, and finally I succeed with a previous version from Sous-Chef's Guide.
I tried to cook a wm6.5 with latest 23403 XIP & SYS, found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544445
but now the device stucks in htc mobility screen.
I ported xip.bin with these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4401715&postcount=2
and I created the rom with and without "real wm6.5 aku" checked, but after flash both, the device stucks in htc mobility screen.
I suppose that the problem is with XIP, so needed some editing to make it work?
I found the solution!
Because lolite haven't a native wm6.5 kernel it's needed to convert some modules to files.
After I convert Browsing, Browsingcore and Browsingie folder modules the rom boots normally(needed to wait too long to access align screen though).
Hi!
Does anybody have information about the default value of pagepool in Iolite? And where I can find it in *.nbh file?
16 Mb, U can change in Ervius kitchen by "Xipporterex & Romtools"

Yes, I found it already, but when building rom kitchen anyway change it to 6Mb
In the Build_log.txt I found: "XIP PagePool from: 6 Mb, to: 6 Mb"
Where I can change it in the kitchen?
You can change it if you "press Other" and change the number on -PP box.
But as I read, Pagepool is better to be smaller cause you will have more memory. The larger size is for stability when you run a lot of apps the same time, but I think this is not usual to run a lot apps the same time for ppc users.
Anyway, a size of 6-8 MB it's good. Search in forum to find more info about it.

O, thanks, i missed this button
I know about dependency Pagepool vs RAM, but Iolite has too much RAM, so as for me, it's better to set default value and forget about it
After Ervius kitchen I have header of *.nbh file like in attachment. Is it correct header or smth missing?
I have no device yet, so i can't check if it is right or wrong header
wont it be great if some of the great cookers such as dancer_69 can come up with a tutorial on how to cook a rom.. it would definitely benefit the whole iolite community..
I'm not so good in writing and my english also, and I'm definitely not a great cooker. I just search in the forum to find some tutorials, and also ask if I had some problems and sometimes I get some usefull awnsers from the great cookers.
Thanks to ervius and his visual kitchen, cooking became easier and there are a lot of infos and great tutorials here, in the forum:

To be honest, it is far so better to find how to cook by yourself. You will get more knowledge and experience, which help you when solving problems. For example: I also have Vox smartphone and I am learning on it. I got stuck on some stuff, but I solved it by myself and now I know where I made mistakes.
Great tools like Ervius visual kitchen makes all this stuff really easy (sort of click, cook and eat ), but you still need to know, how it works. And don't forget that you still can brick your device.
