phone as modem - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

is there anyway to hook up the mogul as a phone as modem with usb without having the phone as modem package thru sprint??

yeah. the info is all on here somewhere, but most people say it just works with nothing added... if not, worst case scenario is you may have to start you connection manually first by opening up a webpage, checking email, etc... on your device, THEN connecting it.

search for 'tethering' on this forum for some valuable threads on the topic. there is a registry key that you will need to remove in order to circumvent the error messages that can appear.
i'm pretty sure offhand that it is located here:
HKLM/Comm/InternetSharing/
Delete the 'Extensions' key in this folder.
if you dont have a registry editing program, id suggest trying total commander. it's a great freeware app for many things other than just the registry. good luck!

big problem
I use dial up on my laptop, but when I got my mogul I used my phone as a modem and now when I try to use dial up it's giving me an error message saying modem not found......what im trying to say is it won't let me use dial up any more without searching for my phone's modem.....what can I do to resolve this problem??? help please and thank you.

well i tried the extension thing and all that regitry editing and it didnt work. so i found WMWifiRouter. created a ad hoc network on the laptop connected to the phone and this little program does the rest. its awesome. decent speed too.

Stuck in roaming mode

I upgraded to 6.1 and since then have been stuck in roaming mode. The only problem that this is causing is that some of the auto connect features will not work as they pop up with a warning that since I am roaming additional charges may apply. How can I get the system to realize that I am not roaming. It is recognizing the correct system.
here's a recent thread / posts info which may help u:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360452
thanks but more help needed
Thanks for the thread, it is nice to know that I am not alone, but the problem is not solved there. There is a zip file for a file registry but I can not install it. It does not uninstall as a cab. I can run it on my PC, but it does nothing on my PPC. On my PPC it says that it is not associated with any program. the end of the old thread asked what to do with the file and got no response.
u need to look at all the pages / posts of that thread and the last post #27 ends "Worked for me too! Thanks".
more help needed
Sorry, I went to the bottom of the page and didn't look for additional pages. I went back and installed regedit and used it to put in the file that was supposed to stop the roaming signal. Reset and felt wonderful until the roaming symbol still showed up. Anything else that I can try?
the problem should be in the difference of the provider name and the connected network, is this in your case alos.
I mean; my provider is Telfort, but the connected network is KPN. Therefore the phone thinks he is roaming, but it is his primary network.

which rom to use

Ok so now since I no longer have my ipaq 4700.... im loving my mogul.
I do however have the latest srpint rom and dont mind it....
the only question I have is this...
I do not have a dataplan and when I use the internal gps and or messenger....the unit constantly dials out to #777. I called sprint and they disabled HAI or HIA or something like that so they said my internet is disabled...
I just get tired of the constand dial out, failed to connect messages..
which rom would be the best for just getting this to go away....in a tweak somewhere I read that there was a reg key to set to not dial out and I did that... also it said go into manage connections and add a user name. However everytime I do that the name gets removed.
any suggestions?
THanks
Jeff
I don't think any rom would fix that problem, cause the vast majority of users use data plans.
I believe the gps dialout is a reslt of the assisted gps capabilities. I recently disabled this in my wife's sprint touch by altering this key:
HKLM\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS
I changed both the 'enableAGPS' and 'enableGPSSmartMode' from 1 to 0. I remember which of the two fixed the problem. Probably just the first is necessary. You'll probably need a soft reset.
To get rid of the dialing out completely, you can go to settings\connections\connections\manage existing connections and then delete the sprint. Of course sprint makes it come back, so you'll need to delete the htc_cm_guardian.exe file from your startup items. I am pretty sure that will work. What ends up happening is you get an error when you try and connect to the internet. I'm not sure that's any better than trying to dial out, but at least you know sprint won't screw up your bill (they do a pretty good job of reimbursing for these when they screw up).
guess im batting a 1000....
I already had both keys set to 0
also I do not have that exe in my startup so cant removeit...
oh well...
Try going into your Connections setting and deleting the #777 profile - it shouldnt dial out after that.

Cricket doesn't program my phone after unlocking

I just got a Mogul today. It's really nice, but I've run into about fifteen brick walls while trying to unlock, flash, and program it so I can use it with Cricket. I used Olipro on it, then I flashed the latest radio to it, and then I flashed Ryan Mogul's ROM to it. I loaded the included Cricket PRL, and then after a lot of frustration I was able to get it to work with QPST. I changed my SPC to 000000, and I changed the carrier name thing to CRKT (should I have done that? It was SPCS before). Then I went and enabled all the GPS settings, and wrote to the phone.
So I thought, now that I have my SPC as 000000, I can get my phone programmed. But of course not; when I dial *228, I always get the "We're sorry" response. I think I missed a step or something. Maybe it was the MDN: When I dialed ##000000, both the MDN and MSID were exactly the same, but I heard that the MDN was supposed to be the phone number. You know, I'm trying to "transfer" my phone number to the new phone. I can't think of anything to do beyond this point. If I dial any other number, by the way, I get some kind of "Welcome to x roaming service" message.
Anyway, I really want to get this thing working before I head off to bed, so fast help would be appreciated. Thanks.
my MDN (phone number) is different from my MSID number. i think Cricket links your phone number to another MSID when you get a new phone, as mine has changed twice!
in QPST, when you set the SPC code to zeros, there is a button to hit to write the code to memory, or save it to flash, or something. i missed that a few times. you enter the one from the log file, then send 000000, then write it. it's not very intuitive. but if you can edit EPST with 000000 then you are fine. i haven't touched anything else in QPST on five phones i have flashed to Cricket
also, you need to point the phone to the right towers with the 1050, or 1013 PRL file, if you haven't. but if it is Cricket on the line with *228 you are good
you don't need to activate the phone, if you don't want to. if the settings in EPST are right you will be OK, as that is all the programming does
I agree with catfishk.
If you can get to ur EPST using all zero's then ur fine. When you call *228 and you do hear the cricket guy then thats good as well.
Try heading over to www.howardforums.com to download a cricket prl. I would recommend 1040 or 1050 and then try to *228 for it to program.
*228 will also program your phone with a new PRL for your market.
I don't know if I could have programmed it manually, but I called Cricket customer support yesterday at 7:15AM and they quickly changed everything for me for $15. Everything went smoothly after that, *228 worked just fine and all that. I don't know if the call and everything wasn't required, but it sure made things easier. My mogul is working now, but I have some now:
I heard that some things, such as MMS, don't work after flashing this phone to Cricket. Are there fixes for whatever is broken?
Also, when I use google maps and I try to look up my GPS location, it shows me as being somewhere only relatively close to where I am and then it says that I should be within 80 meters of that point. I was in a building today trying it out, and it said I was out on the street. Should I just use iGuidance or something?
And finally, is there something special that I need to know for tethering the device? I heard that I can make it act as a WiFI AP, but when I used WMWiFiRouter, it just said it connected to the AP in my house and it didn't show up on my computer's AP list. Is there something else I need to do?
Edit: Oh yeah, also, how much memory should I have free at a time? Currently, I only have 18mb free. I want to have at least Palringo open in the background, and it seems that TouchFlo uses 2mb. I used a program to free up 2mb, so that's really useful, but I didn't imagine so much of the RAM would be used up. I guess that's the way it is.
Also, Opera seems to have some problems. It throws an error when I try to go to a website sometimes, and last time I tried it on EVDO it wouldn't go to any websites when IE would. Anything I should do?
Thanks.
What ROM did you use? The mogul to me really does not have the memory to push T2D or M2D properly with other programs. I would find a clean cricket ROM without the m2d.
Also, to get MMS working you need a program called Arcsoft and manually program the settings for it to work.
As for everything else you just need to research a bit.
I used Ryan Mogul's ROM. Can't I just disable T2D and M2D? I know I disabled T2D, but I dunno where to find M2D to disable it.
Thanks for the MMS info, but the thing is, I don't know what the other things that don't work are. I found out I was stupidly using the Java version of Opera, so I now have the latest WM version and it's amazing. Any answers with the stuff I asked about, such as GPS and tethering?

that means they never allowed your phone's ESN (Electronic Serial Number) on their network. doh!

malarkey. ALL features work on the Titan with Cricket. i have the same phone you just need to configure it correctly, which is weird with Cricket, but possible...

it doesn't use true GPS, from what i have heard. it uses AGPS which triangulates from cell towers or something. i dunno but it is never spot on, just approximating

you need to install the right drivers in Windows (i presume that's your computer) and tether it via USB, i think. it pulls data, and acts as a WIFI card from your PC/Laptop, but doesn't act as an AP, i think. i use Linux so i do it differently :/

i don't know. use DCD's stuff from his site here. they are light, stable and have a lot of free memory. install the radio ROM, O/S ROM, and Cricket carrier CAB:

then thank him every chance you get

Opera 9.5 is BETA, and has issues. mine is stable but i use the mobile version, not the Java mini version. also, Cricket is an authentication mess when it comes to EVDO- it works great until you put it down, then it takes a few minutes to get it's s**t together. IE and Opera bail with errors timing out and you just have to keep clicking! it helps to disconnect then reconnect but meh...

Problems with upgrade to Rom 3.3.4 and radio 3.42.50

Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to say thanks for the help on the forum on upgrading the htc 6800 to 6.1 and unlocking the GPS. I have come into a couple problems with the phone and can't seem to find the solution. If anyone knows a solution please let me know. First, I have the time settings set to Eastern US which is the time zone that I am in. However whenever messages come in, they are displayed as being 4 hours ahead. I don't know why this happens. I also have a problem with the built in GPS. It takes very long to lock a signal and it keeps catching and dropping the satellite signals; is the GPS module just weak? I live in Ottawa Canada. Thanks for the help in advance.
Cheers,
Andrew
Standalone gps is typically slow but it should work well. I would just recheck all your gps settings. Don't know about the time zone issue.
Thanks for a reply.
Ic. I am only catching about 5-7 satellites but its weak. I have the settings set to com4 and rate to 4800. It still works but takes forever. Maybe there is extra software i need to install; i haven't found anything yet. As for the time zone, it is getting very annoying. Message times are all off 4 hours
5-7 satellites are typical numbers. You could try quickgps which might help looks some. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1862269&postcount=2
Try to reflash the rom to fix the time zone problem.
K thanks i will look into it. One a seperate note, I am trying to change my phone number to another area code but I can't get to the screen. I reflashed the rom but no luck. I tried ##778 and ##564848 and it seems to load another screen with ESPT and then it closes and stays on the dial page. Any ideas? I need to change the number fast and the phone doesn't work right now. Bell has the new number in the system, i just need to change it now on the phone itself. Thanks again all.

Did you try ##778#?
Yes i tried that. I tried ##564848# as well. It just starts dialing to bell and bell tells me to contact them. I need to remove the # at the end for the phone to try to at least open the settings page. I changed the number at a third party vendor called wireless wave, but they couldn't get into the settings page on the phone. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. This is my primary phone.
Cheers,
Andrew
Try downloading the Phone Codes program from this thread and see if that works.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=57693
Thanks a lot. Ill try it out. What do i do with the cab files? Sorry im still trying out this stuff. Thanks in advance. I am not registered with PPCGeaks, can you please post the file here?
Cheers,
Andrew
Here you go! Copy the file to your phone and run it. Cabs are install files for your PPC. This should (if I read everything on PPC Geeks correctly) create shortcuts to the various ## codes in your start menu.
K I registered with the forum. How do i use the cab file? Thanks again btonetbone.
Cheers,
Andrew
K nevermind. I registered and got the file. Do i just install the cab file? And then what codes do i use? thanks again btonetbone.
Cheers,
Andrew
Correct. Install the cab file. It should create shortcuts for the phone codes in your start menu.
Thanks for the reply and the file. I installed the file and it still does not get to the screen i need. I am running 3.42.50 and 3.2.6 for bell. Thanks again. Could it have anything to do with a boot loader?
Cheers
I also tried ##33284 and ##3424 to get to the diagnostic page and it worked. But to get to the page to change the number i can't. ah... lol
Does anyone have any ideas why the phone tries to load the page but then closes and enters the phone again? If you have any ideas please let me know.
i think it is a dialer issue. You can also run the diagnostic directly from file explorer. I forget the name of the file. Did you try ##3424#
I tried ##3424#, but that didn't work. Whenever i put the pound at the end it starts calling, it i leave it out, it tries to load a settings page. ##3424 does work. What am I suppose to do with that? Also what does the diagnostic directory tell me. Thanks.
Well ##3424 is for qpst.
I get into a page with ##3424. What is qpst, do I need something set there? I changed different roms but no help. i am using bootloader 2.47 no2chem and so i cant use much older roms. If anyone knows anything to try please advise. I am without a phone now.

[Q] Corrupted username

So, I'm getting the error 67 "data call failure" after some digging I've discovered my username under "about\phone identity" has a bunch of jibberish characters in there. I'm thinking it may be the cause of not connecting to the network. I know what my username is supposed to be, anyone know where to change it? Or another idea to fix! Thanks, this community is the best!
Edit: Okay, so here is how it went. Tried to update profile, then activate this device with no success. Ran the RUU back to stock. Activate this device now worked, then update profile. Done! All is now right with the world! (okay maybe not, but at least my phone works now!)
Thanks for everyone attempt to help

Try updating your profile. It sounds like it got corrupted, somehow. Might be a call to Sprint, worst case.
I've tried that, but I just get the error 67 every time. I've even run the RUU to go back to stock, no effect. I would assume it's somewhere in the system files and could be modified, I just don't know where.

To my knowledge, you won't be able to find/modify the username via a system file. Personally, I'd call and see if Sprint can verify everything is good in their systems or fix, since they are the ones who create/maintain that. Updating the profile on your device should fix a corrupt profile on the device, but if that does not work the issue may well be out of your hands.
Call sprint happened to me your accnt was disconnected
