Touch Duel and TomTom Text application - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus ROM Development

Hi
has anyone been able to configure there WM6 device to work with the TomTom Texting option that allows you to read text on your tomtom gps ?

Im also looking for the same thing for my Garmin Nuvi 360
Garmin has a list of compatible devices that support the SMS function. Looks like all Window Mobile Devices that I looked up are not compatible. Devices like the Motorolla RAZR's support it; so I wonder what standard or chipset allows this functionality. Phonebook retreival, call history and status work though. Hope this helps in towards creating a solution.
Here is the link to find compatible devices:

Garmin Mobile XT

I have Garmin Mobile XT installed that I have used with the Garmin GPS10 bluetooth receiver.
Is there a way to make Mobile XT use the internal GPS? When I start it, it scans bluetooth for gps device. I don't see any other options.
Garmin Beta
I think if you search Garmin's website there is a beta version which uses internal gps in the new test rom
Even if that is true the maps are still locked to your GPS10's serial number. You will need to use GPSGate to emulate the Garmin GPS protocol and cloak your GPS10's serial number. I am looking for a version of Mobile XT which will use the internal GPS as well. I'd love to ditch my GPS10 and go all internal. I like Mobile XT a lot and since I paid for Garmin maps I want to use them!
I am using Garmin with the internal GPS, I cant really point you in the right direction because this sort of "talk" is prohibited here but it can be done quite easily.
Post on getting Garmin XT to work with the Internal GPS is in my FAQ:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=363431
OK ummm... WOW!!!
All I can say is that Garmin Mobile XT is awesome! After a little hacking (not discussing here...Vancelot, PM me if you want info) I got the software unlocked to allow non-garmin GPS receivers. This software works with the intermediary driver so no launcher is necessary. It works like a charm! Now I don't feel so bad for buying the new maps nor the GPS10 receiver... even though I don't need it
I spotted a copy of Garmin 2009 recently and downloaded it. By chance can anyone here tell me their experiences with TomTom compared to Garmin?
I currently have TomTom6 on my vz6800 but was curious about this application now?
Thx

I started out with TomTom...very good app. A friend of mine had me give Garmin XT a try...another good app. I'm starting to prefer Garmin though. It "was" easier to use with the intermidiate driver when I had dcd 3.1.6 installed...since 3.56 and 3.2.0 all have gone to hell...works very sporadically.
The biggest difference to me is with Garmin I can select just a few states about 4 or 5 and load them on my storage card (115 megs) as opposed to TomTom with no way to select the states you want (that I know of) to my storage card (just about 1 gig worth).

Good info proxcee...yeah I am still on 3.16 I may pause here for a moment...
Between the two apps, how did the maps look or the map rendering as it navigated along? ...about the same. I like on the car version how it shows buildings but this might not be an option for the mobile version...???
One thing I was looking for that the TomTom does not do was to see if Garmin Mobile app announce street names for the next turn...???

How were you able to do this? I just have a giant 1GB .IMG file...
I have a 2GB SD and an 8GB on order, so it's not really a matter of space - I'm just thinking that a smaller map would yield better performance...

You won't find that on mobile GPS software (as far as I know). I haven't tested TomTom7 yet, but neither TomTom6 or Garmin Mobile XT supports text to speech street names.

Yeah...it would be cool...but I've never come across any that do either.
I have Garmin and it si possible to split the maps into smaller ones, but if u already have the .img file then i think ur out of luck u need the mapsource i think its called.

Iguidance announces street names. Here's a demo: http://www.buygpsnow.com/iguidance-v4-gps-navigation-software-version-4-for-north-america-dvd-runs-on-pocket-pc-pc-and-umpc-864.aspx

This is a nice feather but before I jump ship how does it compare to tt6? Or Garmin is someone has compared,
I don't own Iguidance but I've used it on a friend's device, so my comments here are someone limited. I find the interface of TT6 and Iguidance to be equally good (neither struck me as having any particular weaknesses of note). The displays are good and menu navigation is intuitive and easy.
TomTom offers "plus" services like weather and traffice....Iguidance does not appear to.
Iguidance may require some tweaking with GPSGate to get it to work properly on the Mogul. This guide at ppcgeeks gives some insight:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=248345&postcount=282
There are tons of comparisons on the Internet. A quick glance this morning showed that it's a mixed bag as to what people prefer. I hope this is helpful.

i had both of these on my phone at the same time to compare, i kept the tomtom and kiboshed the garmin. with the tomtom the maps just worked, while with garmin i had to select maps by small sections from my desktop to have them work. I also prefered the tomtom menu system and found the poi's to be superior.
Garmin Mobile XT for WM6.1 pro
Hi,
I am new to Garmin, just installed Garmin Mobile XT v5.00.10w(cracked) in my HTC Touch 3G, i found that it tooks too long time for "Awaiting better GPS Accuracy" while i am driving on the road where the weather is actually good(clear sky). Sometimes can be 20-30mins long for "start navigation".
Can anybody advise me what's problem with my Garmin? Is this a setting problem? Or it doesn't cracked properly? It was cracked by the HTC shop's promoter where i bought it.
Besides, i tried to copy additional vehicles into "vehicles" folder, and when i launch Garmin, it becomes trial version, but it disappear after i deleted the newly copied vehicle files from the vehicles' folder.
Could you please kindly advise me?
Thank you in advance for your advise..

Schap's ROM with TouchXperience UI - Call to beta testers

You may know that I am working since a long time on a touch user interface, and a Touch Pro version is planned, taking advantage of G-sensor, touch-sensitive control pad and accelerated graphics.
At the moment I can't work on Touch Pro version because firstly my PC is dead, and I planned to invest in an HTC Touch Pro but unfortunately I need to get a new PC first, so Touch Pro will have to wait... But it will come sooner or later and as for the other devices, I would ask now for motivated and experienced testers to participate to a private beta.
I need only about 20 people so I will choose first people who could really help me, better is if you have WM cooking or development knowledges. I don’t want to get thousands of messages asking “please please send me the ROM” like it was in the other threads, so please don’t ask me to participate if you don’t have solid arguments. If you are interested, let me a post here with your skills, and I will contact you later by PM if you are selected.
This thread is open to suggestions.
More info about TouchXperience User Interface and video demos:
http://www.touchxperience.com/
TouchXperience is the Next Generation User Interface for Windows Mobile, finger friendly and highly customizable, it offers many interesting features: program launcher, contacts manager, home screen, appointments, messaging, task manager, profile and event manager, call log, control panel, communication manager,...
TouchMenu is probably the most powerful and customizable menu, replacing original Start Menu for an innovative touch interface. TouchMenu supports finger scrolling and gestures, for example you can switch from a menu to another by sliding your finger left/right, or display context menu by a long press on the screen. You can also scroll menus using G-sensor. Each menu has four different views (large list, small list, large grid, small grid). As the rest of the future user interface, TouchMenu has a nice Vista/WM7 look.
TouchMenu has various built-in menus :
- All Programs (Start Menu replacement)
- Active Programs (Task Manager)
- Recent programs
- Favorite programs
- Settings (Control Panel)
- Documents
- Favorite websites
- Contacts
- Messaging
- Appointments
- Tasks
- Calls (Call Log)
- Communications (Comm. Manager)
- RSS feeds
- Power Actions
- End Actions
- One Touch Settings
But you can do much more by creating your own custom menus where you can add contacts, program shortcuts, website links, system actions (for example: reset device, rotate screen, sound profile, clock, brightness backlight, WMP status,...) or links to other menus. You can also replace icon for each program/folder/contacts/menu with a custom image.
TouchHome is a fully customizable screen where you can add various widgets and graphical elements (clocks, indicators, today items, texts, images,...). By default, TouchHome displays when you turn your phone on. You can make your own graphics and layout using XML. TouchHome can be also used as screen unlocker (unlock screen by sliding finger, by double tapping, by shaking device, using navigation scroll wheel,...).
Use GPS or cell-based geo-positioning to determine current location and create profiles for each location.
Custom Events is a powerful application which execute predefined actions when custom events occur. The principle is simple, each custom event is defined by:
- A basic event (application changed, location changed, new message, new incoming call, battery charging, device cradled, headset connected, Wi-Fi network detected, internet connection detected, ,...)
- Eventually some conditions (date/time, current application, current location, specific words in message, caller identity,...)
- An action (launch application, display notification, enable flight mode, turn on Wi-Fi, change profile, send message, ,...)
There will be hundreds of events and actions, so possibilities are very large! Here are some examples:
- Enable flight mode during nights
- Connect to Wi-Fi while battery is charging
- Deactivate alarm when I turn my device face down
- Put phone in silent mode at workplace
- Remind me to buy bread when I’m near to the bakery
Supports finger gestures on touch-sensitive control pad (experimental, for HTC Touch Diamond/Touch Pro only) to execute different system actions, in this way you can have up to 8 “virtual buttons” on your device.
Supports display auto-rotation navigation using G-sensor (experimental, for HTC Touch Diamond/Touch Pro only).
TouchXperience User Interface is designed for a future usage of hardware accelerated 3D graphics for an outstanding experience!

i dont think i really qualify as the best candidate for beta testing because i am not a developer but if you need a corporate every day power user I fit in I use my device constantly with blackberry functionality as well so maybe that is valuable to you.
Also wondering what the cost of the UI will be once you release it?

I've alot of experience testing various hardware and software platforms. Most of it comes from testing php/sql, as well as a bunch of various hardware platforms including most current gen video game hardware/OS software.
I'm fairly well versed in Windows Mobile, but don't have the experience with it that some other people here have. However, I think my experience in other areas will prove useful.
Schap man,
Been looking forward to this new Touch Experience interface for quite a while as you implemented it in alot and hopefully will change the winmo xperience.
Will your Touch Pro ROMs include TFL3D or is it removed/replaced with your TouchXperience?
How much bigger is the ROM size in comparison with other ROMs? (not that I'm really concerned with that with Touch Pro but also for Kaiser)
Any date estimate on TP's release date?
Thanks man and looking forward to it
Hi Schap,
I am not an experienced cooker, but I have been flashing my Device with many roms on this forum. I received my Touch Pro on Thursday and as you can see by my Signature I have already flashed it with DCS's ROM and installed your advanced config + registry editor
I will test as much as I can and feedback as much as I can if you want me to participate in your testing.
Cheers and keep up the good work.

TouchXperience does not replace TouchFLO 3D as it does not act like a today screen replacement, but if you use TF3D mostly for access to contacts, messaging, Internet, programs and settings, you may prefer to use TouchMenu and you would not need TF3D anymore. I don't plan to exclude TouchFLO 3D from my ROMs, excepted if most of you would prefer it, and maybe I will adapt TF3D graphics with TouchXperience style.
At the moment TouchXperience requires 2MB space in ROM, but as it replace some HTC applications and internal functions I will remove them, so it shouldn't be much bigger than other ROMs and maybe smaller after removing HTC stuffs.
As I said, I need to get first a new PC and a Touch Pro to be able to work on it. For the PC I hope I should get it soon, but for the Touch Pro you know that it is expensive, so I will have to wait longer until I could afford to buy one. Maybe I could buy one end october or november, excepted if I get enough donations to invert in the phone, in that case I would buy it as soon as I have the money then Touch Pro version could be available shortly.

well i'm a system supervisor and i would realy become a beta tester. I'm not much experienced into cooking roms, but i use my touch pro every day intensive (previously i had the tytnII, Tytn, and the qtek9100) i have a 1mbit internet connection through HSDPA and use the internet as well on the device as linked with my notebook. I'm also testing a lot apps on the touch pro like various TF3d config programs, Gsensor locks and more stuff. If you think i can be a beta tester than i would appreciate that.
kind regards

Very interesting project.
I could maybe make some tests, I'm in IT, ex-programmer (yes I don't like how it sounds too), experienced beta tester (and also write good documentation btw.), use WM much before it was WM.

Navigation software

I've heard you can't use the new TomTom 7 on this device because it has no touchscreen.
Has anyone experience with navigation software on the Rose?
The servicedesk of Tomtom couldn't answer my question because they weren't familiar with this device yet.
I'm using Copilot Live 7, works like a charm.
Well, technically you can use TomTom 7. You just have to use FakeCursor (or similar utility) to emulate screen taps. I have tried it and it works, but is not really usable.
So far I have also tried:
Garmin XT Mobile - does work, but I don't like the interface
Sygic McGuider - does work and I like it, use it and recommend it
TomTom 5.xx - does work, but has only older maps available
I tried TomTom 7 and it won't work because you need to be able to tap the screen. I didn't even know you can use a programme that emulates screen taps.
I'm off to bed!
Do not lose your time and use Sygic McGuider. It is best I can recommend for the smartphone.

Just checked it out but not done anything yet as waiting for my Rose to be delivered but it doesn't mention anything about cost. So then, is this a free GPS?
I believe it isn't. This site (in Slovak) http://www.presne.sk/sygic-mcguider-p405 lists it for 66€.
I use Garmin Mobile XT and it works great for me. They have a non-touchscreen version. Here are some screen shots. Alternatively, you could use google maps
could you tell us some more details for garmin mobile xt?
is it fast in menu?
is the root recalculation fast enough?
input text with qwerty and phonepad?
works in landscape when the qwerty is open?
Garmin is nice software and maps for my country are ok, but it's "too much" for my old and tired tornado. I think qualcom @520Mhz must be ok with this...

I have used Garmin Mobile XT firstly on a Win2003SE device, then WM5 , WM6 Pro and now WM6.1 standard and it has worked fine for all my devices. I don't really have any complain. It routes fine without any problems.
i tried tomtom 5 but it doesent work (crashes at start)
I've tried tomtom 5, doesent crach to me but... doesent see the internal gps
It is a known problem; not finding the internal gps. But if I remember correctly there's a fix for it.

I can confirm this, Mcguider is the best navigation software i have used thus far.
Its more accurate and faster than tomtom.
Its not free but tomtom is not as well.
if you buy it its €80,- otherwise you can always look for it in your favorite download channels (can not advertise those on these forums)

Most probably yes.

[Q] Atrix + Bluetooth MAP Profile

Hey guys... long time no see..
Before I start -- I know very little about Android, so be gentle. The last experience I've had hacking a phone was with my HTC TyTN and Kaiser back in 2008, before I switched to an iPhone... I've been an iPhone fanboy for a few years now, and am now looking at Android because the iPhone 4 and my new car's media system don't play well together.
My big question is if anyone in here has any idea if the Atrix can support the Bluetooth MAP Profile? That's the profile that lets another bluetooth device (like a car's media system) send and receive text messages via the phone. Moto's site says 'no' at http://developer.motorola.com/products/atrix-mb860/.
But here's what confuses me: every other Motorola phone running Android (even 2.1) does support it... and all of the phones that have been upgraded to 2.2.1 (including the Droid X) do support it.
How come a newer phone, with a newer version of the OS, doesn't support it?
Any idea if anyone is working to add such support to the Atrix? Is there any chance anyone will release a ROM that can be applied to the Atrix that will support it?
BUMP for this as i am curious just bought a new ford with the MY touch, looking for an android phone that has the MAP profile and will work in canada.
I have ford sync and it functions well, however, whether due to inadequacies in sync or the atrix itself text functions are hit or miss. It does however work well for media applications such as using the using the bluetooth for media such as music playing and all of the steering wheel functions work correctly to pause, forward etc. To be frank, I don't really see the need for text functions through the head unit as apps like vlingo are much more intuitive....
so you couldn't get the texting to work at all through the sync system?
Vlingo is a cool app, but you still need to have your phone in your hand to control it that way
id like to be able to do everything from the car
i wonder why some people are saying they got their Sync system to work with the atrix?

you need 2.3.4 from moto..
I have Android 2.3.4 and I have not been able to get text messaging between Ford Sync and my Motorola Atrix to work. (mb860 w/system version 4.5.91.MB860.ATT.en.US)
Anyone with this setup got it to work?
I think it depends alot on the car model. I have a 2010 Ford Fusion with the nav system (big lcd screen) and after a recent (not the one that may or may not have just come out) Atrix update I am able to receive text messages through the car. Pops up, though I still have to press the screen to read/hear the message. I cannot, or do not know how, to get the car to send anything but the built in reply options. It dulls the effect when you send "I love you. -Sent by Ford Sync". But yes, it works. Also make sure your car's sync OS is updated to the newest version.
As for audio it makes the sound go without a problem, but the controls only seem to work if the application is open and not in the background. Minor annoyance, and there is a few second delay but it works pretty well if you need to shut up a podcast (I love Stitcher).
On another note I just changed from stock moto rom to Cyanogenmod 7 and have lost the SMS abilities entirely it seems. Looking for a way to get that back.
Atrix 4G with bluetooth MAP
I have a Atrix 4G and 2012 Ford Truck with Sync. The 2012 version Sync will read your SMS to you, but wil not send any Text. The Atrix 4G is not listed as having Bluetooth MAP but the Atrix 2 is. And those of you with older Fords, if you have a SyncMyRide account you may be able to upgrade your version of Sync, or your Ford Dealer could do it too.
The Ford web site has a list of compatible phones (in PDF), but I don't remember where I found it. The list is old and many of the newer phones isn't listed, but the Atrix 4G is.
Oh! I had down loaded Go SMS pro on my phone and my truck stopped talking to me. So I had to remove that app.
