Transferring ROM memory to Device ??? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Hello,
I am trying to install TomTom Navigator to my Himalaya. I can do it but i have just found (i'll not go into too much detail!) that in order for it to use 7 digit UK postcodes, the file full of postcodes needs to be put in the main program files memory on the device and there is no room left there !!!!. There is 45mb of ROM left, so i want to transfer about 5mb from the ROM to the device so that i can dump a 9mb file into the "program files" on the device.
Is this possible ? and if so, how ?
Best Regards,
Andrew

ExtendedROM after unlock

Hi!
I´m new in this forum and would like to know if it is possible to use the unlocked ExtRom as normal memory-space in a way, that this space (about 16 MB) will be added as normal main-memory for installed programs.
Thank´s for your help in advance.
The Extended ROM is in flash memory (just like \Storage). Storage can't be used as RAM for running programs, simply because flash memory is a lot slower than RAM and can't be (re)written as often.
You can store files in your unhidden and unlocked Extended ROM as you would in \Storage or on a storage card. These won't be lost when the device hard resets. You might consider moving large documents/spreadsheets that don't change often from \My Documents to \Storage or \Extended ROM. This will also free up RAM. Also, some applications won't mind being stored there (but they will need free RAM to execute).
Hi wfberg!
Thanks a lot for your quick answer. When there is no posibilty to use it as normal memory so at least for data, BUT how do i instruct my programs to use this part of memory as their normal/standard place to store?
As far as i know, almost all programs don´t give an option about
"where to store data"
*during installation* or
*after installation in a setup/configuration-menu*

Open activesync then goto Tools>add/remove programs remove the mark on "Install program into the default installation folder" while you're installing a program a windows popup will ask you "Select Destination Media" just select in this case the "Storage" or the "Storage Card"

Extract Permanent storage application from ROM

I have had very much benefits from the 'Permanent Storage' application.
It just syncs like active sync for appointments, contacts, tasks and connection settings. It stores these data on-the-fly in the 'Storage card' (part of ROM that is free for use and dont get erased on hard-reset.
My friends iPaq also has some permanent storage free, but his WM2003 does not contain a Pernament Storage application.
Since 'Permanent Storage' is not in the Extended Rom, I would think that is is part of the standard (Microsoft) OS rom and (thus) it should work on alle WM2003 devices.
Does anyone know if this application can be extracted (in a CAB or something) to deploy on other devices?
most ROM applications cannot be extracted to a working state due to the address binding & other stuff. So they would never work after extract.
Use dumprom tool to dump files from ROM. I've downloaded somewhere from this site

iPAQ Audio from HP rw6828 into the Atom -> Experts help?

Hi fellas.
I was wondering if anyone here can see if there's a way to extract the iPAQ audio from hp rw6828 (from the extended ROM, etc) and right into the Atom?
I just tested HP yesterday, and I think it really improves the bass well without cracking up the sound!
Thanks!
audio.cpl file from rw6828
here is the .cpl from rw6828,
i havent got atom to try it on. copy the file to your windows folder then restart. it should be in your setting, system.
i am not able to copy the cpl file. says permission denied.
Thanks klikman!
The file is in "hidden" status, and which is why you can't copy it through activeSync. I copied it onto my miniSD card through an external writer, then used Recso explorer (with "show hidden files" setting) and copied it onto Windows folder.
The icon appears under settings, but your settings are not saved when you open it up next. Importantly, the audio controls don't work at all. It's merely a control panel, which seems to be controlling something which is still missing Perhaps something more to be extracted from the iPaq? Any idea how to view the extended ROM? it might be there.
probably a few .dll files
can you U/L the HP rom, i wanna try to install it my Atom.
audio file from ipaq rom
using card export in atom, you ll be able to see the extended rom, but in ipaq, we cant. my guess is there's no extended rom
the main memory size in ipaq 6828 is 58.5MB compared to atom, only 43 mb or so.
the extended rom in ipaq is merged with the main memory, 58.5MB!!!!!! that's the biggest compared of all pda phones.
whats atom's total program memory size? in ipaq, got 52.4mb.
here i upload all audio files from ipaq 6828. try it on
Copied the 2 dll files into windows directory.
Does not work

They have absolutly same ROM & RAM size, unlock hiden partition on Atom and you'll get missed 16.5mb,43+16=59mb.After all its exactly same devices inside.
I guess the whole audio player has to be exported. Thats the application that does the sound effects.
Why stop there? I'd love to see if it's possible to use the HP ROM on an Atom, and if there's anything to gain by it!
Well id personally like to put the Atom ROM on my RW6828.
The HP ROM has a few issues that need address, mainly just performance with games and unlocking the speaker to go louder would be nice.
I want to try this but if I was to attempt to put the Atom ROM on the HP wouldnt I just get an 'incorrect device' error?
Probably. But you could try entering bootloader mode before you try. That may help.
Well I cant try anything until HP release a ROM Update anyway, because I dont believe there is any download links to the default ROM.
All a matter of patience I guess, no doubt theres someone else out there with a 6828 thinking the same thing...

[App]Dopod Info feed RSS reader

Finally got my hands on this.
Enjoy.
Taken from latest Ext rom.
Also does any one know what ChgScutAttri.exe does.
In file info it says it's a cold boot app?
Do you think this one is better then SPB Insight?

Is SPB Insight free?
And is it from official HTC Rom?

I only posted the files for use. I'm not supporting this thread.

Update ROM to required version Setup Error
I am using PDAViet Transformer 1.0.
When I install the cab, it gives a Setup Error: Unable to install application. Please update your device ROM to the required version before trying again.
Does this mean that Info Feed is tied to the Dopod Roms?
Thanks,
Alex
I did see that it checks for which device it installs to. But that can be circumvented if someone Extracts the cab and makes a new installer for it.
Sorry but it's not on my to do list.
I hope you can forgive me for that.
But you can read my "Extracting a Cab Tutorial the manual way"
Or look for that magic cab maker i'm also after that makes Cab files out of OEM packages. It's mostly text in the end that needs editing.
problem placing cache on storage card
When I set Info Feed to store its data on my storage card, then attempt to manually Update any channel, I get an error message, "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation." As long as it's set to use memory, there's no problem.
Current size of Info Feed's data = 3MB
Free program memory = 66MB
Free storage memory = 97MB
Free storage card space = 2.5GB
Obviously it's not a space limitation, per se. Cache/reg value?
Anyone know what's causing this?
@mtn_lion
I encountered the same storage problem after switching to a new 4 GB SDHC card. Info Feed worked fine on all of my other memory cards but I couldn't get it working on the new card.
I found out that there is a strange bug that causes Info Feed to display the "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation" message when there is a lot of free space available on the memory card. After copying some large files to the card Info Feed was working fine again. (At the moment I have a little more than 2GB of free space available.)
It is a stupid workaround but give it a try! It worked for me...
@HipNosis
Thanks for working that out! I'm very pleased to have an answer to the mystery. I'm not gonna waste space on my 8GB card by copying "placeholder" files, but your discovery will make me hurry up and copy more of my music to the card. Do we think that the 2GB threshold is significant?
BTW, I have a line open to support at InfoFeed's maker, Jeyo, about this issue and will share your info with them.
G'day!

Flashing from SD: A Success Tale

I've just finished successfully flashing an unofficial WM6.1 ROM to my StarTrek (Cingular 3125) using only a microSD card (no data cable, no ActiveSync, no Windows) and the brilliant work found on this forum. I thought I would share the details of my success in the hopes that it will help the next person who stops by, since I myself found it difficult to find a definitive yes/no on the matter here.
Requirements:
HTC StarTrek
I had the Cingular ROM; Any should work.
microSD card
IMPORTANT: Your card MUST be using FAT32 for this to work. If it is not already so, back up its data and do this now. (Windows will show a FAT16 volume simply as "FAT".)
AppUnlock tool
The one linked at this post is good. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1146363
The ROM you wish to flash
I used the WM6.1 Standard ROM posted here by Erofich, since it is most appropriate for a Smartphone such as the StarTrek. You can also use the Professional version, though it is intended for use with a touch screen, so you will have to control a cursor with physical keys.
A computer you can use to extract and place these files onto the microSD card.
After you've obtained the listed files and have them extracted somewhere on your computer, copy the following files to your microSD:
SurrealNetworksAppUnlock.cab (Anywhere)
The entire SSPL directory from your extracted ROM download. (Anywhere)
RUU_signed.nbh, found within the RUU directory of your ROM download. (Rename this to STARIMG.NBH and place it in the top-most level of your microSD card, not inside a folder.)
Insert the microSD into the device (the door is located beneath the SIM card). Using the File Explorer (or Total Commander, if you have it), move or copy the three contents of the SSPL directory from your Storage Card to the top level (/) of your phone.
Find the SurrealNetworksAppUnlock.cab file on the Storage Card and run it. It should install like any other application, and you will notice a change to your Home Screen wallpaper.
Using File Explorer again, navigate to the top level (/) of your phone and run SPL.lnk (36 bytes, if this helps you distinguish which file to select). If all goes as expected, you will see a white screen, followed by a message telling you to press the top Volume button to proceed. Do this, and it will flash your new OS to the phone.
I hope I've offered a clear and helpful explanation of this process. Enjoy your now-renascent StarTrek!
Special thanks to Corian for helping me troubleshoot, to #xda-devs, and to all content authors involved here.
Funny, I was planning on re-flashing my 3125 via SD card, but I could not find where I left the instructions. I did it many times a few months ago while trying many ROMs, but I could not recall the exact procedure. Then I come to XDA-Devs to search for the info again and find your post sitting there right on top. Thanks, you saved me lots of time.
I'm currently using Erofich's (pArtizAn's) 6.1 standard ROM as well, but wanted to try out Erofich's PRO version for kicks, and maybe retry GnatGoSplat's clean ROM (I found I'm not using Mobile Office , which the Clean ROM leaves out.)
Ideally, I wish there was a way to install certain WM-Pro only applications on WM-Standard, so that I don't need to change to a touch screen centric OS just for a few applications.
BTW, anyone find and use the HTC Network Setup tool to configure the phone for use with U.S. AT&T service. I want to avoid having to manually set up the data settings.
Freakin awesome, works like a charm, now I can flash my phone with the broken charging/sync port. Many thanks...
Hello. I done all steps of this instruction, but can't flash because the message which invite you to press volume button does not appear...
You should repeat the instructions very carefully. Are you sure your SD card is FAT32-formatted, rather than just FAT (FAT16)?

I actually have no idea; What I've posted here is all the experience I have in this department.
Hope you get it figured out!
P.S.: Erofich has a new ROM posted in this subforum; You should check it out if you plan on flashing.
