best rom - advice please - HTC Startrek

Hi All,
Been using WM for ages on a variety of devices. I've rom flashed a lot of PPC edition Wm devices, but the missus has got a Str Trk on order and I'd like to put WM6.1 on there for her.
What's the best ROM? I need GPRS working, got to be stable, and it'd be nice if it looked pretty too - partizan's looks nice with the today screen enhancements, also needs to run at reasonable speed, and have enough space to run TomTom off microSD. Oh, and a radio that doesn't kill battery life.
What's the best? Neo? Partizan?
Any advice from someone who's done it appreciated!
Ric

I have been using the Neo Lite rom for a couple of weeks now. Very stable, nice and quick. Also leaves enough room for essential apps to be loaded!
Highly recommended.

cheers

what's the RAM like on these phones? do you have to be carefull picking your ROM?
does the Neo Lite ROM include the carousel interface?
Cheers!

WM6.1 is the best! I've been trying all the new WM6 ROM. The WM6.1 has a fantastic new today screen, it's very fast and has a new interface for SMS...I've been using it for 2 days and loving it...It alson has Office mobile. You have to install the cumultive fix and you might need to install Windows live if you use hotmail since is not in the ROM...also you need to install a language pack if you need languages other than english for your xT9

defintely would like WM6.1 as the missus is replacing her Treo with this and she likes the threaded SMS.
Are bluetooth and MMS working on the 6.1 (are you running the partizan rom?)? there were some questions raised around MMS settings being available on this...

I'm running the partizan ROM. My bluetooth works fine; I don’t have problems in sending or receiving files although I haven’t tried to bluetooth with earphones. I have MMS settings for pay as you go orange UK and works without problems. My only problem is that windows live seems to stop working (unable to connect) when the battery is less than 50% but I’m trying to figure out what the problem is. Overall a very good ROM

great, thanks

HTC Touch / TouchFlo

Hi, some people have had success getting the touchflo interface to work on the Wizard:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314031&highlight=touchflo
but it doesn't seem to work on Charmer. Anyone else tried / succeeded?
If anyone has any ideas, please post here, thanks.

this is a realy goods news for us, but the fact is too few people use charmer. i only can do is wait for somebody make the sutiable rom for charmer.
today i used to make a test, write the Fantastic_b4_step2 ROM to charmer, but that is not function, stop at the second screen and system was down.
I have been using the htc Touch homescreen today plugin, wireless manager and dial pad on my charmer for the past week, however had to overclock the device to compensate for the lagging.

I've been using the above and a few of the other HTC apps on my Charmer for a good few weeks now and found that if I install the "v. 000.2 WM6 Essentials" rom and then the HTC apps I dont have to overclock the thing at all. Although the first time some of the apps are run they are slow.
I'd like to see someone add these to a new extended rom excluding all the naff T Mobile stuff that I have to bypass after flashing at the moment. I've also never flashed my PDA so often as I have recently.
I just have one problem and thats syncing with Vista Windows Mobile Device Center, its not working and giving me sync errors but doesnt tell you why typical Microsoft error trapping hey?
Adding the bits to the extended rom make n difference, however having them added to the actual rom does, anyway the charmer rom cookers have stated their stance on adding these tidbits to the rom and I appreciate that.
Regarding your active sync issues, are you using AS 4.5?

Advice on the best rom

Ok I'm new here, just switched from my old (now dead) Charmer to a Prophet and came here looking for a WM6 rom.
So far, I have tried the following and wanted to weigh up the pros and cons of each:
1. gullum's Touch IX
Fast, lots of memory but a bit overloaded, album didn't work and BT activesync didn't work as normal
2. TNT
This was okay but seemed to "stutter" a bit so performance not so good.
3. Crystal 4
This is fast, looks nice but misses some of the things I'm used to (so I have to go looking for cabs). It also doesn't lock the buttons even when you set it to - so if I use it as a music player any of the buttons can get pressed when the screen is off. I wish I could find a workaround for that one.
4. About to try gullm's Touch VIII
I guess I am looking for a fairly light WM6 which is fast. I don't like the new HTC keyboard at all but the phonepad was good. I like the cube but its not important. It is important that everything works as it should - e.g. bluetooth.
Any advice based on experience?
you forgot to try Cloudyfa's ROMs. mysterious and transformer.
After you've tried those, you can make your decision cause there's nothing else except cooking your own rom! =)
i would try the Transformer or Crystal roms as mr_yellow states.. They are pretty stable and phonepad with many langauges.. And they have network wizard so you don't need to remember your GPRS and MMS settings if you have to hard reset on your way
And with transformer, you can choose the look you want
if you want cube, touch, speed, camera album go for gullum IX(his X would be too good),infact go for it if you want everything install after you flash it ,else go for others and then find the cabs to install later.

I did try that one. The album didn't work properly (didn't recognize gestures) and bluetooth activesync doesn't work. Hopefully the bugs will be ironed out with a X release. In the meantime, I'm testing Touch VIII to see how it compares.
Thanks for your advice, it's difficult to choose when there are so many pros and cons with each rom!

Hello,
On each prophet's Roms I've tested, Bluetooth's parameters are loosed after soft reset (headset must be paired again and again ...).
Is it a WM6's problem or only with these roms ?

Yes, I see that. I think the bluetooth cab then stops usb working or something. Sounds a bit flaky. I've had a go with Touch VIII and it is suiting me pretty well so far.
Not tried the Mysterious one yet, tropheuz, but I'm sure I will.
What I have found so far from the roms I have used is they all have pros and cons - I don't mean different cabs installed but some just have BT working well, or everything's fine except wifi, or whatever. It would be good if the people cooking roms could come up with a standard agreed base where everything works and then add their favourite apps and themes on top of it. Just an idea.
Thanks again.
I suggest you clearly Cloudyfa's Misterious rom.
The best one i've tried Transformer 1.1 , still using it and clear of bugs...

Which is best ROM upgrade for Dopod 818 Pro?

Hi Everyone,
I am seeing lot of updates including iPhone version. I am wondering which one is the best compatible for my Dopod 818 pro.
I am looking to the lot of experts on this wonderful forum to provide me some expert opinion. I just don't want launch some ROM and have the dopod become a brick.
Thanks in advance for your advice.
Brenda
All the ROM here have been tested, at least by his cooker.
So, just pick the ROM that suitable for your need, try to read the guidelines and start flashing.
I've been flashing my dopod 818pro almost 20 times, and still OK until now.
How is the iPhone 1.1 or 1.2 upgrades or which one did you like the most?
Hi Legedug,
Thanks for the fast response. Did you try the iPhone ROMs? Did it work? I ran in to some problem when I tried it (went to three color screen and stayed there). Of all the 20 odd upgrades which did you like the most for performance as well as functionalities? Please share info and thanks.
Brenda
go for dioxda 1d rom speedy king version its speed is awsome
and if you wanna feel that your running a 400mhz pocket pc overclock
and it never hangs and running smooth

Yup, I tried both, it used old method for flashing, it worked (means I can see and running the program/not stuck in boot looder), but for some reason I did not use for long time.
In my opinion the first stable ROM is Varanusvincent ROM (Black edition 2), I use this ROM for several weeks.
The next is dioxda 1d, and then I tried to cooked my self, and now I use my ROM base on Glass Prophet ROM CE OS 5.2.20270( Build 20270.1.3.2 NAM).
The third one is Varanusvincent ROM (Bubble 2), I catagorized this ROM as clean (without HTC Home).
So if you want to add some feture later, try clean one, but if you interested in ready to use, pick some ROM that the features included within.
But if you want to add some feature for your need, the best is trying to cook your self (Inteks has made the best cooking software that I used it a lot, called it, Neokit)
I've tried about 10 roms. The best for me is Dioxda2's 1d. It's the fastest, stable, and low batt consuming. Combine it with 2.19.21 radio rom. It'll be great
Perfect ...
you'll find it hard to believe but in my opinion,... the best ROM so far is,... Crystal V4 from hma4. It is rather "old" brew but no WM6.1 ROM has been better in my opinion.
Jarel
Is there one file that I can download that as opposed to many links???
Hi Legedug / drTaruna:
I am trying to install the Dioxda2's 1d for the dopod 818 pro. I am looking to download the ROM and associated apps... I am seeeing so many links... is there one nicely packaged big file that I can download that has all the utilities and the ROM. Please advice. Thanks in advance....
Brenda
A quick question:
What apps do you need?
Because there are lots apps on here such as icontact, s2u2, s2V, s2P, HTC home, mortscript, throttle, quickMenu.
Or if you like (prefer) complete ROm, use full ROM such as Cloudyfa or Varanusvincent ROM.
I think Dioxda's 1d is a full rom. Many useful programs included. I only have to add some readers for my eBooks collection.
Here are some. ...
... some more cabs.
There are some useful application. Ready to use, in Maxniper's thread. Just download and copy to storage card.
Have a nice hunt
Enjoy ... .
Options I like and want.....
Hi Legedug,
I am looking for nice Dial Keypad like in the Glass or IPhone and ability to change theme, Low battery Consumption, good signal reception, voice dial, ability to close programs from Home page, good Blue Tooth connection, Good key board for Instant messaging and finally easy navigation.
Not really interested in Radio or PDF reader or etc stuff that I would use a laptop for.
Are there separate cab files that I can load in to my SD Card and execute for each function? Thanks for all your help.
Have a great weekend.

Thanks drTaruna....

Sorry, I am out of my office now
I only could point out the soft for what you need.
1. Dialpad; use dfx dialpad or iphone dialpad but for changing the theme you should manually create and replace it the file from /windows folder
2. Battery consumption; use batfix.cab
3. Signal reception; use networkwizard
4. Voice dial use cyberion or microsoft voice dial
5. Bluetooth connection depend on ROM but also there are some BT connection in cab file
6. Keyboard; PocketCM keyboard, also some cooker made his color keyboard.
7. Close program from homepage; use QuickMenu plus WKtask
8. For easy navigation; it depends on taste.
Hope this help you little
lite.cab is sktools, loaded from varanusvincent's threads. Useful to clean up ram and optimized reg beside for benchmarking.

Is it mean that i could upgrade my Serra (WM6.1) to WM6.5??
this could be a great 6.5 rom... has potential! thanks for sharing and we'll post feedback
Hi everyone!
Glad people are liking it so far. Have noticed a lot of downloads so fingers crossed some responses soon.
TF3D is basic of basic. I didn't include the HTC Home, I don't use it now the WM6.5 interface is improved. I also found that it killed battery life. I did include the HTC dialler, volume controls, task manager and gestures. The camera is also included.
Yes it does mean your 6.1 Serra can be on to 6.5 now. I have run it on my Serra for one week now. Battery is fantastic, up to 3 days with normal use. No issues found so far!
Looking forward to hearing back from you all. I'll make any mods people request.

Try going to Settings - Input and changing to full Qwerty. That's the HTC Touch Pro keyboard. Much better finger wise. SMS issue also gone which means the auto input using the HTC one works.
I'll get some screen shots tomorrow including using TaskFacade. Post tomorrow evening.
Keep the ideas coming!

ALee's 6.5.X - Light ROM for the Titan / XV6800

Alee's HTC Titan/XV6800/Mogul ROM - Build 23569
Notes: Your phone must be unlocked. I use Olipro 2.40. You also have to have a GPS radio installed. I use version 3.42.50. Please read up on flashing roms for the Titan if this is your first time. I'm not responsible for you breaking/bricking/making your phone unusable. Use at your own risk!
I will include a Verizon ROM and a Carrierless ROM. Should work with DCD's carrier cabs, but I have no way to test. Please let me know if it works!

This is a WM6.5 ROM for the Titan. I've started cooking a rom for this device because it seems like other ROMs don't update with new builds too often anymore. This 6.5 ROM is designed to be light and useable everyday.
It has 23MB of free RAM in low memory mode, and about 29MB of free RAM in high memory mode(no camera) while using ActiveSync. It runs stable and has 119MB free memory for programs/files.
In order to save memory and resources, some packages have been removed. This means that not all features are available or will not work with this ROM. If it's not included in the ROM, and somebody asks for the feature, I'll do my best to provide a method to install the features in the future.
This is a work in progress, and it's not for everybody. Some things just don't work, but the things that work run well.
I'm going to try to support this ROM as best as I can, but I'm not a pro at this. Alot of my work has been trial and error and reading through the forums to fix my mistakes. I will probably try to keep up with updates until January of 2011, where I'll be able to get a Touch Pro 2 with Verizon's new every two.
The ROM generated thanks to the PPCKitchen.org project. I think it's a great utility that helps a normal person like me cook a custom ROM. Feel free to give their utility a try if you want to cook your own ROM.
Additionally, thanks to all the developers who have publicly provided fixes/patches/updates/programs to the Titan world. Most are long gone and have moved on to better phones, but I wouldn't still be using my XV6800 without their work.

gonna test it out. Sounds good though. Thanks
New Version
Updated the ROM today. I cleaned up the Titanium registry entries and it seems to have made the Titanium screen snappier and smoother. I also put in some reg entries that are supposed to help the 6.5 memory leak issues. Seems to work well enough for now.
Calculator Replacement
Since you're already doing a Calculator Replacement, I'd submit that you consider using the program 'Eval' ( www .dl-c.com/PPC/ )
I've been using it for many years going back to pre-phone pdas and I think it works better then the built-in, and possibly better then the HTC version (though I can't guarantee that)
check it out and let me know what you think

hello everybody!
Im really new here so i was wondering....
Is there a reason I should be using this ROM instead of Ryan Mogul's WM6.5 light ROM? "forum.xda-developersdotcom /showthread.php?t=496982" (without the space, hyphens and switch the 'dot' with a period .)
Is this one better? Is this one more "up to date" and does it work better than Ryan Moguls WM6.5 light ROM?
THANKX!!!
I've never used Ryan's roms so I don't know what is better or not. It seems that rom is based on an older build of windows 6.5 where mine is built on the newest 6.5.5 build. The newer build has some graphical enhancements that are designed to be more finger friendly (larger buttons, start menu on bottom.)
Based on his include list, it seems like he includes more things in his ROM. I cooked my rom based on having the bare essentials and every user can install his own extras based on their preferences.
The best way to check is to try them both out and see which one is more appropriate for you.
hey i just flashed your verizon rom to my phone, and it didn't work.
Never mind! I got it working! GREAT ROM! THANX BUNCHES!!! Oh and btw, yours is much better than Mr. Ryan Moguls!
thanks for the reply

thank you very much!
Thank you! One thing...
Thanks so much for doing this. I really appreciate getting some new life into an old device, it feels like cheating! Anyway, I have one minor nitpick. I'm a GNU/Linux user, and had trouble opening the archive because .rar is a proprietary format. Would you consider using a zip archive next time? Thanks again!
I will upload the ROM as a zip next time.
