My girl gave me a cingular 8525 today, it had come into her work and I am trying to fix it. I am a hardcore wizard user so i am very familiar with HTC, cooking and whatnot, but my 1st problem is I cant turn this thing on. The battery may be very dead, or the phone may be broken. All I have is my mini USB plug which doesnt seem to be compatible with the new phone. The hermes is squared off a little. I can get a little red light if I move the USB plug around a little. 1st thing, I have to turn this on, I have had my wizards battery be completely out of juice and I had to jumpstart sort of speak, so I was about to get on that with the hermes battery, but Im still unsure if my existing mini USB stuff will plug in with the hermes' slightly different sized plug. Anyone know? or if its just as simple as buying a new plug.

Hi xvemokidx!
By the sounds of it you have a hermes witha loose conection plug and a dead batery!
Try seeing if there is something obstructing the teeth of the conection plug...
once that is sorted... try folloeing steps:
1. Remove Battery for 10 secs
2. Put mini-usb into jack (you should get a Red light)
3. Carefully insert battery (light should change to Amber)
4. Leave to charge (but keep an eye on it!!)
5. after a while the light should of turned Green!
6. Then try starting it up
All of which I would of said you would of done this anyway...

My brother brought me his O2 Prophet a couple of weeks ago because he said it randomly turned off. I assumed, obviusly, a faulty battery, and replaced it with a new one, fully charging it with an independant desktop charger before putting it in. Still the problem persisted.
I hence came here, and trawled through the xda bible, concluding that since the thing would turn off even by leaving it on a table and looking at it, it could very well be a software problem, as so many before me have had. No biggie, methinks - it's flashing time!
And here's where the phone decided it wanted to be a cute white paperweight: before it could finish flashing pdaviet, it turned off, voiding the process. Since, it's stuck in bootloader, and every time I try to flash (and I'm positive I'm doing it right), it will turn off, normally even before it reaches 50%. What could be the problem?
I've checked the connectors to see it they were dirty, and connectors 3 and 4 seemed slightly recessed, but I don't know if this is normal (they're very neatly recessed).
So, finally (I'm a long typer, sorry!) if anybody has any ideas, even maybe apparrently stupid ones, please post - my computer wiz reputation is at stake.
Try a different computer if you can, or even just a different USB port.
If that fails, re install active sync, get a different WM5 NVID ROM, Manually put the device into bootloader, disable connect through USB in active sync and then connect the device. Then run the RUU from the ROM you downloaded.

I tried all of your suggestions, but it still turns off all the time - I'm starting to think it really is a harware problem, but I can't figure out where.

Does it start up (and run WM5) properly? If yes, and it persists to reset, I would assume there is a faulty connection between the battery and the device. Check the battery connectors on the device to see if any are further depressed than others.
WM5 doesn't start at all - it's stuck in bootloader. The two middle connectors are slightly depressed compared to the other two - should I pull them out a bit?
I would suggest pulling the pins out slightly, but do not overdo it. Try a different WM5 ROM (an official one is probably best).
I know it may be silly but check if the soft reset button didn't stuck, maybe someone was pressing it too hard and that is causing problems

I just want to share the solution I used to solve a big shared problem I had with my X10 Mini. During a call my battery went so down I couldn't even turn it on without any sign of hope. As we know in this cases the phone CAN'T charge itself cause it need a software "help" and without a minimal charge the phone is dead. In my case scenario even with Seus holding back the button couldn't solve it.
I decided to solve it without taking it to the 60km away SE support center and:
- taken apart a usb data phone cable
- divided the red wire and the black one
- considered that the USB port gives 5v at 0.5ma
- taken apart the phone case and the rubber cap on the top of the phone
- take out the battery wires connector from the logic board
- inserted red + wire into red hole of the battery connectore and same with the black ones
- connect it to the usb port of a spare computer (you could sacrifice it if something goes wrong)
- wait for a hour to have a good charge starting point
- disconnect everything, reconnect connector, close case and connect to the normal micro usb cable
- evrything will charge as usual.
NOTE: If someone try at his personal risk, BE CAREFUL cause if something cause wrong you could ruin battery, or logic board or pc motherboard!!!

Good job, but did u try to charge for a few hours without SIM card? Because I already drained completly and solved problem just removing SIM, putting to charge and waiting. After 2 or 3 hours the system start to charge normally.
WTF? This phone has this problem? Did 2.1 fix it? My wife has the habbit of letting her mobiles die.
I hope that she will not need to take out the SIM card every week to charge her phone.

Yeah this phone got this problem and it's quiet usual I see in different forums. But not always it drains so much like me. I did the BIG error to try a couple of times to turn it on. I tried any combinations of tricks with or withous sims differents ones, different buttons, different charger, etc.... No way! I think that SE support centers has got some kind of charger that has got the female connector of the battery to solve this problem.
Ah I now realised you have a mini and not a mini pro, as mini pro's can have their batteries removed.
I hope I will not have to solve this problem , any time soon.

I'm repasting what I wrote in my previous thread hoping you can have a clearer view of my issue.
My phone has the standard ROM, WP 6.5, nothing changed
I never flushed the phone, never formatted it, etc, everything is legit!
My TG01 has died many months ago and now I'm looking into ways of having it re-activated. I will explain to you my possible theories why it died, so maybe some of you will have an idea how to fix it
- For the first 4-5 months I only used PC USB (synchronization) charging, as I had a UK mains which obviously does not work in Europe. I noticed that the battery indicator was never really accurate, showing me the battery levels very vaguely.
- I often synchronized my Outlook e-mails with my mobile phone, one day my phone died when I chose to synchronize all e-mails. It died to an extent that the battery was completely empty. My PC wouldn't recognize it and it would only start for 5 seconds (the red led lamp would shine) and then die...
I somehow managed to revive it with my normal charger but afterwards it used to overheat quite a lot...
- One day I left it to synchronize again and the battery died on me again (at least that's what I think had happened)... the difference that USB PC charging did not work anymore as well mains charging. I was desperate enough to buy a replacement battery from eBay and I still have the same story. When I connect the phone to the charger I don't even see the diode lighting up anymore.. NOTHING. Any tips?
Could it be that the replacement battery is also so empty that even a mains can't charge it anymore? I heard someone mention something with cutting a wire etc, ... would that help me? IF so.. how do you exactly do that?

So far no luck in getting updates from you, but I've got an update for myself:
I somehow managed to get the LED diode turn red when I connected it to the computer, which should be indicating the fact that the phone is charging, right? When I try to power it up the device manager recognizes a device called TOSHIBA DL... does this mean my phone is in some sort of emergency state?
The screen lights up a bit as well, but remains black.
yess this means your tg01 is NOT bricked. try take your battery out and put it back in so its totaly switched off then press n hold CAMERA, VOL UP, POWER keys to perform a master reset. if that doesnt work try this,
use the short pin method, put a .tsw in a PRG folder at the root off your sd card and short pins 1 and 3
if not,
download a tg01 rom in a .bin and flashh the .bin via tgdownloader
if you dont know these methods please tell me and i will link and help you.

hi there, it sounds like your battery has gone flat try leaving it on charge via USB for a few hours see if that will kickstart it and for the pin method

A friend of mine destroyed his X10a, says he dropped it, but looks like it was run over by a truck... At first sight it had the digitizer destroyed with flex cable completely cutoff, broken LCD and the battery sustained some damage.
Then he told me that if I could repair it, I could have it... Naturally I though, 'replace the broken parts, let's say ~$50 and new phone for me! but before running to eBay, I wanted to be sure that it only needed a new 'screen'
The first thing I did, press the power bottom (though that if it gave any signs of life I could just put my SIM card in and call from another phone, if it rang I would smile) and... a red led blinked 3 times, when lucky. As I have never 'played' with a X10, I had no clue what that meant so my quest for knowledge began... and after reading I found it meant low battery, so plugged it to a wall charger and the only thing I got was a blinking red light, same with plugging it to PC with USB cable, which I think it's suppose to mean bad battery. So left it overnight charging... and never got anything but a red light. (no orange light, no green light, not even a steady red one) and if I pressed and hold the power bottom, it would vibrate.
Well, time to open it and see if there's anything else I haven't seen... and after opening it, found that the keypad flex cable is almost cut off and it seems to have some damage in the lower right corner of the 'motherboard' (looking to
where the battery goes) near the antenna connector? (I'm assuming it's an antenna connector, the round thing with a hole, it's a little down from where the LCD connector is, will upload a photo, but at 5:42am I'm surprised I'm still writing...)
1. How can I test the 'motherboard' ensure that it's functional?
2. Does the X10 need the battery to turn on, or can it be turned on with just the wall charger (and no battery). Will it turn any light on?
3. Does any of the damaged parts (no digitizer, LCD or keypad) prevents it from turning it on? (guessing the keypad might). Hopefully someone really brave, thirsty for knowledge and dieing to help will open their X10 and try to turn it on after various combination of disconnected components, let's say without LCD, digitizer or keypad... just to analyze it's behavior and help me...
4. Any idea? or just not my lucky day?
P.S. When I plugged it in to the computer it was as if it wasn't there... PC Companion and SEUS did not recognize it (not even windows 'sees' it)

almost all of phones I had ever serviced needed plugged batterry.
You may even need the thermistor (middle pin), because phone controls resistance and temperature of original baterry. I am not sure about X10i,but power supply is nessesary I`will take my multimeter and check it out once in home
But before plugging any power source, be careful about static electricity and check if any of flex cables are not short-circuited!
A also may provide complete PCB schematics if it could help you (but they are very very difficult )

It depends of sense with you are using your phone - my old 3410 and K310i still looks like new. Unless batterry exploded...

No, he spoke about keypad. But doesn`t depend on model - baterry is dead I thought.
But better is if he use stabilised power station instead.

i have a european htc flyer with LeeDroids actual custom rom (GB).
Today I drove my car, while charging it with a special 12V - Micro USB-Car Cable.
I tried google navigation and some other features and after that I chose HIBERNATE from the power-menu.
After half an hour I wanted to reactivate the device but everything I try - it simply wont start. display stays black, i tried every button (including the combination to bring it in the recovery mode). nothing works. the red light next to the power button is on (as if it is still loading).
has anyone an idea, what i can try to start the device, is it a brick? what about garantuee in this state? what should i do??

You need to give it time on the proper wall charger. Red indicates a completley depleted battery. I don't think you'll get what you need from a usb charging mode at this point. It could take some time to revive if you've push the battery far enough to deep discharge becasue the initial period will be used to recondition the battery at very low current.

Can you plug it into the PC and see if it detects anything at all and if it does what is that. The other possibility is that you've somehow ended up in download mode.
I ended up in download mode on my original incredible. Not fun. See if it boots if you plug it into the pc. If so, I know how to fix it.
