Hypercore Kitchen Help (Video Tutorial)? - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 ROM Development

Hello everyone. I am new to the forums, and I am struggling to create my own rom. I have read many tutorials and looked at Wiki too, but still am unable to create my own rom.
I was wondering if anyone on here is willing to create a video demonstration of how to actually use Hypercore Hitchen.
IE. Take an OS.nb dump it, make some changes, Cook and then Flash.
(I am particularly struggling to understand ExtROM part.)
You guys could use the following free software program to create the video demonstration as it allows Desktop recording: http://camstudio.org/
I'm sure there are many other people on these forums that would appreciate this gesture.
Thank you in advance.

sure ill make one.
i have camstudio anyway

Ah amazing!!!! I think this will be beneficial to many beginners like myself.
(Please take into consideration that im a noob at this when making the demonstration haha. )

alright some is going to be really obvious so if you dont understand tell me.
there will lots of parts where you need to copy ad do this but i didnt do them in the video because im working on a ROM right now and i dont want to mess things up

I know how to dump an OS.nb to get the SYS and OEM files.
What I dont understand is what to do next, and what to do with a rom that has an ExtROM folder.
Perhaps just make a demo of your procedure and I'll see if I can understand / learn from that.

i havent used a rom with an extended rom folder so i wouldnt be able to help you on that.

Could you still produce a video for one without an extrom folder? It will still be a good start. Thanks.

ok i was able to get the ruu extracted with nbhtool.
what came out of that was
Extendedrom.nb
windows.nb
primarysplash.nb
radio.nb
secondarysplash.nb
spl.nb
then i tried tadzios app to try and dump the rom i used the hermes setting and prophet setting both didnt give me a dump folder just some files. one was imgfs others i forgot.
anyone have any ideas.

[05_OS.nb] is not a valid OS file...
Not having much luck converting the nb to imgfs either. I've tried aWaiter, aChef, and then various imgfs tools that errored out. I don't know enough about the file format to conclude anything (for all I know, I missed a step somewhere. )
Anyone with more experience have anything to add?
upload the os.nb and ill try some things
Here it is! Extracted with nbhextract.

I just uploaded the windows.nb from the 6800 rom to an ftp (no wait):
ftp://ppcgeeks:[email protected]/Titan/Users/ImCoKeMaN/
I also uploaded the SPL incase anyone wants to take a look at that it's in the same directory.

err its not that simple
firstly atm the tool only goes one way, secondly even if you did get one to re-compile it you cannot flash unsigned code to the titan until someone bypasses that.
Oh that just bites. I was hoping to have some touchflo goodness sooner rather than later.
Also how fast does something like that usually take? days? Months? years? is it something simple. Or is it a very daunting task like looking for an exploit in the xbox 360

well you need someone to work on it. they need the knowledge of how and a device to try/experiment on. if no-one does it it will never be done

Very nice man i have tested these and the work perfect. thanks man again. lol like the third time.
well at least we have you and you have done more than the rest. I'm sure as soon as some of the rest of the smart people get a hold the work you have already done we will see more action in the coming months. So thanks for your contribution to the community. Best I can do is make everyone I can aware of the new titan subforums here so they can come and play. Thanks!!
Also anyone wanting me to test anything just let me know as I am a sprint repair center and I have full insurance and advance exchange at my disposal.

The dump tools in midgets post will dump the files from the RUU_Singed.nbh. you will need to extract the .nbh from the newest rom update HTC released. i think the nbh may be in this thread look on page one im not sure.
once you extract the .nbh whats the nexts step??

yes, version 4.91. do a search on threads about blackberry and athena words.
Yes, there was a guy that got it working. I think he even got it working on the latest Athena Project ROM by PK. Just an FYI...not sure if the ROM had anything to do with it or not.

Here you have:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1420252&postcount=302
you have to extract from the rom the os.nb, with nbextract. Later do the edit of the file looking for the HTC-Athena and change into HTC-Hermes. Next step is introduce this file in your Athena, do a hard reset and job done.

Thanks for that. Only problem (and I may be really thick here) is that I can't find NBExtract or any of the other tools I need to do the job. I think I will wait for the time being before going to WM6. Being a noob at Rom hacking (but fairly technical generally) i think I need a little more info before i take a working wm5 Athena and hope I can get it working on WN6 with Blackberry connect

I guess this means unlocking the device in order to flash it, unless you use your own CID's image. Has anyone flashed an HTC branded device? If so, could you be kind enough to upload the resulting ROM that includes BBC?

It's very risky to share this class of files. And modificate a rom is very easy, you should try it. It is not difficult.
Where to find the tools?

Kitchens, teach or release!!!

There have been a lot of new roms lately, However nobody is releasing a kitchen. I was trying to convert an old kitchen to work with the new GPS rom and windows mobile 6.1 but have had no luck. I know that it is possible though because no2chem made a rom like that. PLEASE if you are making roms release your kitchens too or write a tutorial teaching everyone else how to make a kitchen.
Thanks in advance
Most if not all kitchens are not ready for the light of day yet. There are bugs still being worked out. You need to be a little more patient.

just be happy and greatful that you got the roms so quickly. Wait patiently like the rest of us.

Yeah...I like having the cooks try their recipes out first a bunch of times before they release them to the general public........
....I wonder....which one of our star rom cooks looks the most like Julia Childs.......
he-he-heh....
Disregard this.
I figured they'd be waiting for an official rom release before they release a kitchen.
I'm hungry
IVe seen alot of people say you can break a rom out to into a kitchen using a tool of dogs is this possible? does anyone else know if there will be akitchen soon?

You can.
given our recent experiences, I suspect that as soon as DCD has a chance, he'll probably have his kitchen updated with WM6.1 and the new GPS stuff... and then I think I will finally learn to cook a bit =]
I haven't noticed any of our local chefs dawdling on anything, so I'm willing to let them get it done when they can.
That said, of course, I am also waiting with anticipation =]

all i can say is patience young padawan. Honestly man, im workin a lot on my roms, and fixing up my kitchen, i was almost ready to release it yesterday, but then 6.1 came. i havent given the wife the time of day all week because of the work ive been doing for this kitchen lol. Im sure when one of us with a working /semi stable kitchen feel like releasing it, it will be release.
As for the teach or release, i could release you my kitchen, and that would teach you a lot just because of all the bugs and hacking i have to do each time i fix something, or try to add something new in, i know that this isnt a kitchen thats ready for n00bs. but if you wanna brick your phone, by all means, pm me.
its not that hard to start building guys...I posted gthe steps that I use before ..and I've only started doing this stuff when the gps rom came out..this is what I did.
downloaded dogguys kitchen from ppcgeeks.
download the big rar full of oems (packages/apps for your rom) from ppckitchen.org
take someones clean rom such as no2chem or dcd here..take a clean rom and put the ruu_signed.nbh in root folder of dogguys kitchen and run prepit.bat
that breaks up the clean rom and makes appropriate folders.
next unrar your big rar full of oem's into the oem folder that's was just created by running prepit.bat(i also found and even bigger package of oems here at xda so you are not limited to what's in ppckitchen.org's archive.
then ..optionally run oemizer to customize certain things
then..the big part..run buildos.exe..this is the part that gets tough. buildos can die for a lot of reasons but that's why there is a logt file
when you are doine choosing stuff in buildos ..make sure there are no duplicate packages and hit play..after you fix a dozen errors and hit play a dozen more times then you can ruin buildit.ba and flash your rom (in the ruu folder inside kitchen)
have fun

Can you please provide a link to the "even bigger package of oems here at xda"?
sorry no i cant as i just happened upon it.. have a look at the xda wiki and you'll see it there ..also the xda wiki has some good stuff on making your own oem's and junk like that, which is where i saw the link.. i wouldnt reccommend that big package anyway as it has a l9ot of duplicates in it and junk and really just made the rom build harder.
if you dont see what you want in the ppckitchen rar, then you probably can't get it/wont work anyway..so then youy would have to m qake your own oem..
so look at xda wiki, look up how to make your own oems and you will find the link there..but as i say..the ppckitchen rar should have everything you could want
ps. search..search..search..
be careful ..think about it before you start playing with this stuff. its very addictive.

How to cook a ROM with DCD's Kitchen

I am a new and aspiring chef here and would like to cook a custom ROM for myself using DCD's latest Kitchen. I have been looking around at all the postings but don't see any specifically relating to using DCD's kitchen. If someone could put together a little step by step tutorial on how to do this I think it would be very helpful for a lot of us. DCD, your roms rock but I just want to cook in some of my own personal favorite things. Thanks for everyones help in advance!

I want to cook my own rom with his latest kitchen plus a few other OEM's like slingplayer, wmwifirouter, etc. someone please give me some help here. I am sure that I am not the only person who will make good use of this information.

I read it but it is possible I missed something. I just want to be sure I get it right and don't brick my phone.
In order to add your own OEMS, simply copy them into the OEM directory and they will then show up when you run BuildOS.
Slingplayer works fine in my unit cooked off DCD's kitchen.
I am most recently looking into the UC compatibility to automatically customize a rom without having to cook it.
How do I prepare cab files for insertion into the OEM directory?
you have to get oemizer. google it/search button at top

Could you hook me up with your slingplayer oem files? I can't find them anywhere and tried oemizer to no end!
I want to use DCD's new 3.0 kitchen, but I would rather use the new 3.5 OEM ROM as a base, because I would rather use WM 6.0 than 6.1
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to do this? Do I need to extract something from the OEM ROM and place it in a certain folder in his kitchen, or can I just place the OEM .nbh file somewhere?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just to another thread with more detailed information about cooking ROM's.

[TUTORIAL] How to Cook for GENE [UPDATED FEB-14]

Hi,
In this tutorial I'll try to explain how to cook for ours Genes. I'll try to be clear and i hope all of you can understand the necessary steps to acomplish this work.
For any doubts feel free to ask.
Index of steps:
1st step: How to Extract files from ROM to make a BASE ROM.
2nd step: How to build your first ROM
I thank all of the XDA for this work
and sorry for my bad english
How to Extract files from ROM to make a BASE ROM.
In this guide I not use any kitchen, only tools. This way is more easy to understand the whole process.
In this guide i'll use Chayn Diamond style ROM as an example but you can use any ROM that you like (The ROM must be unprotected).
Let's begin:
1 - Create a folder on your hd root (usualy C: ) called MOD_ROM and unpack the TOOLs folder inside it. Unpack Chayn and copy ruu_signed.nbh to MOD_ROM folder.
2 - Let's go extract the rom contents:
Type: (This will facilitate the work)
Code:
set path=C:\MOD_ROM\TOOLS
2.1 - Open a DOS prompt and navigate to MOD_FOLDER and type:
Code:
nbhextract ruu_signed.nbh
and wait it finish. This tool will extract all files inside a *.nbh file.
Now we have 2 files: 00_Extrom.nb and 01_OS.nb(We'll manipulate this file)
2.2 - Type:
Code:
imgfsfromnb 01_OS.nb imgfs.bin
This will extract imgfs.bin from os.nb. With imgfs.bin we can now dump the files inside rom.
2.3 - Type:
Code:
imgfstodump imgfs.bin
This will create a dump folder and store all files from rom inside it. This may take a while.
2.4 - Delete dump_MemoryMap.txt
2.5 - We have to run pkgtool now to create packages from these files
Code:
start "" /w pkgtool dump
2.6 - Now we have 2 folders inside dump: OEM and SYS. Sometimes pkgtool don't put packages in your right place so run this tool
Code:
pkg_cp
It'll put the packages in yours right places (if pkgtool left some). After this rename the dump folder to BASE_ROM and inside it create a folder called ROM. Should be this way: ROM(empty), OEM and SYS
3 - Dump and extract xip files
3.1 - Dumping xip
type:
Code:
msflshtool 01_OS.nb -d -p 1
It'll generate a 01_OS.nb.part1 file. Rename it to xip.bin
3.2 - Now create a folder called XIP inside MOD_ROM folder and type this
Code:
dumprom -5 -d xip xip.bin
This will extract xip files.
3.3 - Delete the dump folder and move XIP folder to ROM folder inside BASE_ROM.
Your BASE_ROM is now complete, ready for cooking.
Download Link TOOLS: http://www.4shared.com/file/84674501/ec87e7f4/TOOLS.html
Mirror: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=27fc933b7e3147c3d1014a7a667fa2b4e04e75f6e8ebb871
In next step we'll build our first rom. When ready I post here.

Hi Addicted2xda,
If you remove the office you have around 3MB free to use as storage space.
About pkg_cp my antivirus not detect it as a virus. It should be a false positive.

Well Ramerson, if you allow, i would like to post a tut to cook using your kitchen the way i do it. Let me know what do you think about this idea.

@ankit360 : May be for you dear, its very easy but not for most of our friends here. I too want to learn it the detailed way and thats why i am eagerly waiting for ramerson to post the full tut. I was saying to write a tut about the easy way. And by the way, your XIPs also miss cacheflt.dll and some other DLL files so using XIPPorter may be easy for you, but it definately does not produce complete XIP's. Cacheflt.dll can be used to gain good filesystem speeds and VanillaManila Ultimate uses it. I use the manual method of XIP porting for that. Anyways, If not many people call for it, i wont write it anyways. Its a hard task writing such long tuts

Hi Sumit,
Feel free to post your tutorial here. It will help many people and we'll have more ways to cook.

Sorry to all for the delay in posting the tutorial. My job is taking much of my time.
