Newbie ? What is CID unlock? Do I need to do it to my Cingular 3125 before I can install WM6? Thanks

I am a newbie as well, however with the advice on this forum I was able to upgrade my startrek to WM6.
You must do a cid unlock - thanks to this your phone will be taking on the ROMs which are not made by the official sources.
How to do it - look for it better in the forum, and use the older version of the unlock program!
Just for information: It is not necessary to do the CID Unlock for every WM6 ROM. Erofichs ROMs for example can be flashed without a CID Unlock. I also flashed my StrTrk withot CID Unlock but I know that GnattoSplat Roms always need this way of unlock.
Sooo.... What is it, and why would i unlock my Qtek 8500? I already have 6.1 on it...

CID = Carrier ID
When you CID unlock, you are making the phone so its not "locked" to a specific carrier's rom. By doing a CID unlock, you could flash a Cingular 3125 official rom on a QTEK 8500 for instance.
As stated, some (all?) of the cooked roms here are not carrier specific, so CID Unlocking appears to not have to be done. Personally, for what little time it takes to do this, just do it and you won't have to worry about flashing a rom and it not working becuase of carrier info.
NOTE: CID unlocking is different than SIM unlocking. SIM Unlocking is what allows you to use any SIM in the phone. CID unlocking is just for flashing different carrier roms. YOu can be CID unlocked and run a different carrier's rom, but if you aren't SIM unlocked, you can't use their SIM... (hope thats clear).

so is the qtek 8500 from expansys CID locked?It is sim unlocked...
I flashed my Qtek 8500 with Gnats ROM without CID Unlock, Just for Information!
I'm using dopod s300 which is not sim locked.
do i have to registry unlock and cid unlock before i flash to wm 6.1 rom ??

I have one quick question. I bought a softbank X01HT and the phone came sim unlocked & super cid. I am running the 1st cingular rom now, but want to try other roms. Some of the rom have a higher boot loader than 1.04. I know that if I change to say a 1.06 bootloader that I have to use a 1.04 bootloader that would have came on the phone, but no cid code to let me know the right rom to use. Just looking for some help, thanks

I have my 8125 G4 unlocked, to can use any sim chip, from any Mobile Operator on the world, so, for my idea i have unlocked my 8125, but when you talk about CID i cant understan if you talk about othe lock protection, or, if how i have unlocked my phone for a any sim chip, i have my 8125 CID unlocked.

I was hoping to find an easy way to upgrade to WM6 and install the new touch applications. Does any one have any suggestions on which WM6 rom to install. Everything on my wizard is original programming except I have added PHM registry editor.

There is no easy way... Are you sure your G4 is CID Unlocked? ALL G4 are locked in factory and the only way to unlock them is via imei-check website. You can use ShellTool to flash any WM6 here in the forum (I recommend NBD 7.4 for the touchflo apps).
As soon as you keep a copy of manufacturer RUU for your Wizard, you can flash any ROM you like using shelltool (Unlocking not required, but never using RUU to flash unless it is a manufacturer RUU)

Actually...All Wizard are locked in factory
i've got an 'old' mda vario 2, which i unlocked using pof's cid and simunlock tool. i want to upgrade to a new WM6 rom (either the tmobile or htc wm6 rom), and for that i may or may not need to be cid unlocked. the most important is, that i stay sim unlocked.
so if i upgrade to the stock shipped WM6 (dutch) tmobile rom, i off course do not need to be cid unlocked (only if i want to upgrade to the WM6 htc rom, which in the end i prefer!!!).
but i've been reading around, and there are radio roms around that when the device is upgrades with that particular rom, the device becomes simunlocked again to that provider (in my case maybe Tmobile) without any hope of simunlocking it again. The devices i'm talking about are the X01HT devices with radio 1.14.01.10.

so here my question, i know for a fact (or i think i do since it is a pre 2007 mda vario 2) that i do not have an X01HT device. but after i upgrade to the orginal WM6 rom (either the tmobile rom or the HTC rom) will the radio rom in the new original tmobile rom simlock the device again (and thus putting the unlockable 1.14.01.10 radio rom on it)?
Or is this only the case for X01HT devices with radio 1.14.01.10 (since the radio roms of these devices cannot be up or downgraded).

Use HardSPL - this will idiot-proof keep your device unlocked / safe for most failures if you follow the instructions in the forum and in the WIKI exactly.
The X01HT is a version of the HTC HERMES especially made and rebranded for SOFTBANK (just another company riding on HTC's back ). Your T-Mobile Vario II is not a SOFTBANK!
Read the HERMES section in the WIKI it covers nearly everything, even SIM lock / CID lock. If there are some things in the WIKI which you can't understand just come back here and post your questions ...

u need a hardspl first. cant flash to a cid locked device.
and the only people that know how to CID unlock the Touch Dual are Imei-Check. However they are unwilling to post the method with their Sim Unlock tool because I am the only person that wants them to!

actually imei-check only sim unlocks. cid unlock just means taking a spl and using 5 min of ur life to make a hardspl which will cid unlock the device and let us cooks cook.
