Features (Full version):
- Ping destination host and take back statistics about it
- ARP scans entire network of every connected network adapter on your device
- Mass Ping entire network or just part of it
- WhoIs domain name or IP address

No offense at all, but I didn't knew that someone will ask what is ping and when/why I should use it when I post this treat here in Development and Hacking.
The ping command is useful for determining the status of the network and various foreign hosts, tracking and isolating hardware and software problems, and testing, measuring, and managing networks.
Anyway, feel free to click on next links for more useful information about ping and what it looks like

v1.5
- added time statistics for minimum, maximum and average results
- separated errors [destination unknown] from [destination unreachable]
- improved speed
cheers

v1.6
- added statistics for sent, received and lost packets
- bug fix

I can confirm the behavior reported by Mortimer. It can't even ping itself by IP, nor the default gateway. Still good for testing internet connectivity, but this should probably be addressed to make it a more valuable network tool.

It's work as intended. This behavior, can only be USB advanced network functionality problem. To be sure about your IP/gateway address: unplug your USB cable, fire up ping with empty IP/name field. This will return your local IP address: 127.0.0.1, if you are not already connected via WiFi or 3G/CSD. Now, enable WiFi(connected to pc-pc or AP) or 3G/GPRS/CSD connection. Do the same "empty" ping and you will see your WAN/modem assigned IP address. Now type that IP or the one of your gateway in this subnet, and results will be there before you even blink. PingBox can ping itself for sure (much much more), but you have to know your network to start from somewhere...
To use proper USB internet connection, change this in the registry on your PC (not PPC) and reboot:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]
"AllowLSP"=dword:00000000
To manage AT&T hidden proxy, use these cabs:

Do you have connection with internet or local network via WiFi (not USB/active sync)? Try to ping with empty ip/name field - this have to return your current IP address (127.0.0.1[localhost] if not connected). Also check your firewall on machine you are trying to ping or tell me what kind of error code you receive.
There is no option for "nothing happens" After ping, you will see something like this:
- Reply from host (package returned with reply time in ms)
or
- Destination host unreachable (most like firewall or network problem)
or
- Destination host unknown (DNS lookup fail)

ICS Control v.21 - utility for controlling internet connection sharing

UPDATE
April 5, 2008 - v0.21 released.
ICS Control is a GUI front-end for Internet Connection Sharing, a component of Microsoft Windows Mobile. It can be configured to do a variety of things including sharing your cellular internet connection over an adhoc WiFi network.
Requirements: .NET Compact Framework 2.0 and Windows Mobile 5 or later with the IPNAT driver included (most WM6 builds have this built-in). The "Internet Sharing" application that some phones have is not required, but IPNAT is.
ICSControl is a single .exe file, included in the zip file below. You can place it directly in /Windows/Start Menu/Programs/ on your device and it will appear as an icon in Programs. Or you can place it elsewhere and create a shortcut.
Comments, bug reports, and requests are welcome.
If you like this program and would like to express your appreciation with money, you can donate via Paypal.
Changelog
v0.21
- Added host names from DHCP leases to DMZ and InternalHost dropdown lists.
v0.2
- DHCP Lease editing is completed.
- Virtual Server (aka incoming port mapping) configuration is completed.
- Application definitions (aka outgoing port triggers) configuration is completed.
- Added really simple icons.
- Attempts to accomodate weird ipnat driver configurations.
- Other minor changes/fixes.
v0.11
- Added auto-dialing to Connection Manager destinations
- Added private interface IP setting
- Fixed bugs involving the up/down controls.
- IMPORTANT: If you were using v.1, some of your saved settings may be messed up. To fix this, press the Set All Defaults button at the bottom of the settings panel.
More info on Internet Connection Sharing
ICS allows a private network (for example, an ad-hoc WiFi network) to access another network (for example, the internet) as long as the Windows Mobile device is connected to both networks. It should be able to share between any set of adapters. The common configurations of course would be:
Cellular to WiFi (probably the most common scenario, sharing internet access to a WiFi network)
Cellular to Bluetooth PAN
Cellular to USB
But it should also work with more "interesting" combinations like:
VPN to Wifi - get wireless clients onto a VPN
Wifi to Bluetooth - allow bluetooth network devices to access a WLAN.
Wifi to USB - basically the pda acts as a wireless network card for the PC (neat, eh?)
Will this allow you to select the wifi adapter as well?

Yes. I guess I should point that out as that is probably what people want to do with it. It should be able to share between any set of adapters. The common ones of course would be:
Cellular to Wifi,
Cellular to Bluetooth PAN,
Cellular to USB.
But it should also work with more "interesting" combinations like:

Will test this out when I get home tonight...will find out if Sprint noticed it later this month when the bill comes in
Wow! Sounds great. Downloading now.
This looks interesting. I am hoping this might help me get my phone connected to my laptop as a modem. I do not appear to have the ipnat.dll. Any suggestions?? TIA. AARMD

Transplanting ipnat.dll (and the necessary registry settings) from another device is possible but I'm pretty sure it's illegal to distribute it. I know, people do it all the time, and there is no reason for MS to care, but I'd still rather not be the one to do it.
I am using a Verizon 6800 with WM6 Pro and DCD 2.2.5 ROM installed by an acquaintance. I can find an ipnat file, but it is not listed as a .dll. It shows up with the Windows logo. Does this help at all? I am sorry, but I am somewhat new at all this. AARMD

Cool, this is working on my Alltel 6800. I have a laptop that had its internal wireless hosed, I am now posting using the HTC as a (very expensive) wireless card
Right now I am running through USB, I have to check it out and see if it works with bluetooth.

Hey, most wireless cards can't make phone calls Let me know if it works with bluetooth. Also when bridging like that using the DMZ option could be useful since there is only one USB client so all traffic should route to it. If you hit Refresh after your laptop is connected you should see a host entry in the DMZ dropdown, just choose the laptop's ip and then hit stop ics then start ics.
I couldn't get the WiFi to Bluetooth working, but this laptop has had ongoing bluetooth issues. I'll try it out on my MacBook Pro when I get back from vacation.
Yes, on vacation and still dorking around with the phone. The biggest challenge: finding where my girlfriend hid it after getting upset about where my attention has been focused.
Does using this program burn up you wireless minutes or do I need a special internet plan added to my account?

If you use it to share your internet access then you may be charged for your data usage depending on your service plan. If you don't have an unlimited data plan then you will be charged under most circumstances. On some older phone plans data usage is treated like phone minutes and nights and weekends are free.
I was talking to my sprint rep and they said if the phone is used as a modem then extra charges will be applied even though I have unlimited data. This program works around that?

I do not know how they determine whether you are tethering or not so I can't say for sure. But, seeing as how I've been using this myself quite a bit, I'll find out when I get my next bill from Sprint.
Changes in v0.11

Wow! i thought i was impressed by your first release! THIS IS GREAT! Thank you!
Great App, very fast and good looking:
2 Suggestions:
- easier way to transfer the files from PC to PPC - for example per shortcut in the right-click menu (instead of "copy and paste", "Send to Remote Touch")
- the fullscreen keyboard is ok, but my preference would be a keyboard where I can see what I am writing
For me these would be a great improvement

is this support control over bluetooth?
is there such app? (control my pc with bluetooth or at least something like universal remote using bluetooth)
Works great with my tilt. I troubleshooted for a sec figuring the configs out and here is my experience...
Originally, it connected/ran fine but only while connected thru usb-activesync or wifi pointing to 192.168.100. It would not establish thru gprs or hsdpa (obvious enough, right)
Then, I read a little closer. I enabled port-forwarding as instructed. I am still maintaining dynamic ip assigned internet so i utilized the no-ip software and setup a static host here. I adjusted url in setup to point to that static host and can now access the pc thru gprs (i must still activate the internet connect first i.e., by clicking and updating weather or any other internet stimulant app) but WOW!! Seems faster than RDM
However, I can only get connection properly thru gprs while first having McAfee set to open firewall protection. I tried setting permissions for 192.168.1 ranges but no luck. Only successful thru gprs when mcafee firewall set wide open. Once, RemoteTouch session started and established, I can then change the firewall settings back to say trusting, but cannot restart remotetouch with firewall less than wide open. (something obvious im missing? like before)
I love the app and would like to demonstrate but wish not to leave my firewall wide open any tips on how this is accomplished?
And thank you big time Mr. Sanjay Thomas.

Yes I want to allow both the standard SIP as well as my keyboard in future releases.
I will eventually add a menu item in windows explorer to copy and paste (this is low in my list of features at the moment though).

Glad you like it the software.
I don't use McAfee but should be able to allow traffic through port 3230.
Are you using Windows Firewall also ?
You can use any internet connection, WiFi or ... usb, although I've yet to figure the use of using Remote Touch through a USB wire.
this Apps rocks...
No problem with this Gamma version ! great improvment !
Works great and much faster than any remote desktop access solution i've seen so far
I have one question though: Is there a way to make it work for secondary display as well? In a dual-display environment RemoteTouch shows only the primary display.
so how would you connect to a non static ip address of a computer on a wireless router...the ip would change anytime you power cycled the (in my case) cable modem or refreshed/renewed in ipconfig
would you have to change the ip address in the ppc program as the ip changed on the pc or is there a way to monitor any changes made and adjust accordingly?
thank u very much for the great app
i run it in my ppc and it work great , but it works only by the usb.
i tried to run it by useing the wifi but it says(connection failed)
i did what u saied , i used opera and updated wather then run the remote touch but it always say error .
am i missing any thing??!, please help me , i really need this
just tried with both the suggested ip in the install.bat file and looking up my actual ip address not just the one my router tells me it is...
no dice...
any suggestions?
here
sounds like u are accessing ur computers ip since it works thru usb...try the suggestion to get no-ip to setup a static host..
this is the post that helped me access. i remember going thru the steps...first i was thinking it wouldn't work bc i got no response, then applied some of the installation steps trying to follow to a closer 't'...first worked thru usb....more configs then it worked thru wifi...used the no-ip and finally figured i needed to setup a static host thru the acct.....able to get thru over GPRS once mcafee trust settings opened up all the way
a few things tho, i had to connect to weather or email right before running the prgm...and also soft resets were sometimes necessary as the program sometimes hung with my phone...might be different tho with your configs...but overall i loved it and found it to be super-responsive and fast...
thanks again Mr. Sanjay for a great prgm!!
[edit] check the post....http://t2remotetouch.blogspot.com/2008/10/notice-connect-to-your-pc-from-anywhere.html
QUOTE FROM THIS POST WITH NOTES COMMENTS italicized FOR MY PERSONAL EXP and EMPHASES FROM POST bolded ORIGINAL POST in green

Notice: Connect to your PC from anywhere using Remote Touch.
Just clarifying that Remote Touch lets you connect to your server PC from anywhere as long as your mobile have either WiFi access, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, ED-VO or anything other internet connection. Obviously your PC also needs to be accessible anywhere on internet as well.
I can only give a basic guide (not very detailed) as the steps really depend on each person.
1. If you use a router, you need to enable "port forwarding" to allow traffic from outside your router through to your Remote Touch Server machine port (Port 3230 unless you changed it from the default). Searching on google and using your router name & model should get some useful results.
; I enabled port forwarding, but my google search to setup port forwarding recommending changing to static ip. This was tough with my network and carrier and I believe the reason for steps 3/4.
(So you need to setup your router so that all traffic coming in at port 3230 needs to go to your Remote Touch Server machine's local ip address. (i.e the IP address you see in the INSTALL.BAT file).
; which i believe is 192.168.1.1 thru most routers
2. You may need to configure your firewall(s) to allow this traffic from outside your PC.
; I had to open McAfee and set ALL the way to OPEN trust
3. I recommend using a free DNS agent like No-IP (there should be other free ones too). Just go to their website and register. It is really straight forward, they will detect your external IP address.
[BigSniperBoy mentioned to make sure your "Host Type" is set to DNS Host (A) for No-IP. Thanks BigSniperBoy !]
4. You will also need to download and install their DNS client on your Remote Touch Server machine, so no-ip always knows your machine's current external IP address.
; which establishes a site that produces ur static ip u will access over GPRS or w/e way u talk to web
5. Once you have your DNS name (e.g. xxxxx.no-ip.biz) you can use that and enter it into your Remote Touch phone when it is connected to the internet (using either WiFi access, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, ED-VO or anything other internet connection) as shown below.
; which required me to connect by first checking email or weather just before prgm launch
Once you set this up, you don't have to do any of this again !!
If you got this working, congratulations !
If you have questions, email me at [email protected].
that was incredibly helpful thank you so much...
if you have your windows xp set to automatically log off...can u use this program to remotely logon to your pc from your ppc?
man this is great i just checked out your videos on youtube that's amazing great work keep it up
just tried
just tried and it this is awesome! well done to the OP
so quick and works great, makes me want a vga instead of qvga phone
Great APP!! Your app made my month!
Couple problems for you to check out - I use S2U2 and this app want to be on top of S2U2 so when the phone is turned off or turns off, when I turn it back on, RT shows up instead of S2U2.
Also when I am transferring a file from PC to phone, if the turn off time event happens before the transfer finishes, the server disconnects and does not finish the transfer - you need to keep the phone on by maybe faking a mouse click or keyboard event every 10 secs or so..
THANKS!

so how would you connect to a non static ip address of a computer on a wireless router...the ip would change anytime you power cycled the (in my case) cable modem or refreshed/renewed in ipconfig
would you have to change the ip address in the ppc program as the ip changed on the pc or is there a way to monitor any changes made and adjust accordingly?

For dynamic ip i use DynDns (dyndns.com) which is free, this will allow you to get a dns name pointing to your last known IP. You can either setup your router (mine is a linksys and has an option to work with dyndns), or use DirectUpdate, a shareware software running as service that connects to dyndns and sends your ip everytime it changes.
Great app! Great speed! But I can't seem to get my Touch HD in landscape (800x480) with this. Is there a way to optionally force the client to display landscape by the menu for example?
Keep up the great work!

[Q] New question... Do any of the ROMs support Proxy wifi settings?

I didn't get much response on my previous question about proxy support for the stock rom, so I was wondering if any of the alternate roms include it. I would very much like to have access to the internet at work, but the school district requires loggon through a proxy server (content filter) before you can access the WiFi network. I realize that port restrictions that the district places on the network will likely prevent me from accessing the market, gmail, or voice search. But at school, I would most like to just access flash based educational website for kids.
Any thoughts on this? The district is moving toward ipads as the tablet platform of choice because of the lack of proxy support with Android. But the ipads lack of support for flash really hinders what I want a tablet to be able to do for me. (Yes, I want my cake and eat it too!) Is this too much to ask?
I connect my gtab to my schools wirelesss that is using 802.1x EAP for wireless security. I had to install a mod that changed the settings app and allowed advanced wireless settings. That allowed me to put in the authentication type, domain name, password, etc. Once connected, I ran a mod that set it back to the original settings apps. I asked in your previous post as to whether you are having problems actually getting on the wireless or once on, you can't bet by the web filter. We use websense here. Once I got on the wireless, there was an websense authentication dialog that popped up. Once I put my domain\username and password in, it works fine.
It won't even let me connect to the district network because I don't have anywhere to enter the proxy settings in the wifi set up box.
Assuming you have Pershoot's or Clemsyn's Kernel (or one of the better ROMs), you need something like ASProxy. I use it at work all the time and it does the job. There is a free program called TransParentProxy which is more limited but does allow you to quickly test settings without spending any money.
I do not see a proxy settings in the wpa_supplicant.conf file. My understanding of this file is it lists all possible settings settings available for Wi-Fi configurations.
# This file describes configuration file format and lists all available option.

Previously I've only needed to access a proxy after connecting to the network. Perhaps you have run into a problem getting connected to your network using the tablets Wi-Fi settings manager. So connecting to the network might be your first step and then connecting to the proxy your 2nd.
I found the free Wifi Advanced Config Editor (WifiACE on the Android Market) to have a GUI to easily configure advanced Wi-Fi settings not found in the tablet's settings. I realized when trying to set up an advanced configuration I needed to create a new connection in the tablets WiFi Settings with the security of NONE to avoid having some of the wrong settings configured by default. Then using the information from the my network admin I manually set the options via the WifACE GUI, un-checking NONE, and bingo I got connected.
I recommend WiFiACe with one caveat: make sure you have a way (like adb) working and know how to backup, delete, and restore files and that you make a back up of all wpa_supplicant.conf files on your tablet.
My caveat comes because my first reboot after I got connected to the Enterprise network at work the Wifi would not start or run. It would only display "error" and do nothing. Several reboots later it still wouldn't start and without Wi-Fi running there is no way to make configuration changes either through WifiACE or the tablets Wi-Fi Settings. I had to use the adb shell to delete the newly configured wap_supplicant.conf and create a new connection via the tablets Wi-Fi Settings and then make the necessary changes through WifiACE. Once that was done it ran and connected. Now after multiple reboots it still works and connects. Without the ability to delete the file I'm afraid I would have had to re-flash my tablet to get Wi-Fi to work again.
I don't think you've ever mentioned what ROM you're running. If you're running stock, you will have a very difficult time, in fact it may be impossible. If you're running a different mod, there's hope. Now, assuming that you got ClockWordMod (CWM) installed, you can probably be successful in at least connecting to the wireless. If you don't have CWM installed, here's a good place to start:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
Once you have CWM installed, go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857939
This will give you the zips for installing a differernt wireless config tool that will allow you to put in the 802.1x EAP config. Once you can successfully connect, you back out the the tool you installed.
