Going back to WM5? - P3400 ROM Development

Hi, I upgraded my 3400 to WM6 using the directions on this forum, and by-and-large everything seems to be fine; however, 2 of my most-used programs now have a problem: SPB Time 2.2 and Sprite backup.
Is there any reliable way to go back to the original stock ROM?
Any advice would be highly appreciated!!

Restoring Backup Data to new ROM Version

Greetings,
I'm currently in the process of having my I-Mate rom upgraded from version 1.66 to version 1.72 (I think) prior to upgrade I made a complete backup of everything that was on my device. The I-Mate representative told me however that it would not be advisable to restore my backup data after the upgrade. He did say that restoring appointments and contacts wouldnt be a problem.
Question for you all, CAN I RESTORE ALL BACK UP DATA AFTER ROM UPGRADE?? and if i do will it screw up my machine?
Cheers!
Best way it to use Activesync for that. After upgrade your device will see seen as 'new' by activesync.
You cold havre enable Permanent Save. But big chance that does not work when up / downgrading
Be carefull, i did it yesterday and i-mate hangs up. the messaje is "there is not enought memory" but there is no program running. I tried to install others rom but it not possible because the languaage. Im dessespetate.
Vodafone gave me the rom file. Is incredible. :!:

Newbie Question: Upgrading from ROM 1.60 to 1.72.187

Newbie here.
I scanned through the forums and after a couple of hours decided to upgrade my ROM to 1.72.187.
Before upgrading I did an xBackup for all data. Then I went ahead and upgraded from ROM 1.60 to 1.72.187, all ok except that all data was gone. So I did a restore from the backup I did previously; but now device information displays ROM as 1.72.00WWE but ExtROM reverted back to 1.60.44. Did I do anything wrong? How do I upgrade including the ExtRom to 1.72.187 and maintain all installed programs and data, without having to reinstall and reencode stuff.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
after any upgrade I found that restoring a backup made my Himalaya unstable.
Data isn't the problem, installed programs are.
You just have to install all apps again. At least that is my opinion.
extrom version is in the registry, if you restore the registry extrom version will also be restored.
I agree with M4io, I noticed that even with Sprite Backup, things dont run as smoothly as they did after a restore. I only backup to be able to restore the device to a fully functional state (even if it does not run as expected) if it ever does a hard reset on me at inconvenient times, after which I purposely do a hard reset and re-sync, reinstall all my software and reconfigure all my personal settings.
Yes, it is very tedious and time consuming, but from my experience at least, its the best way to keep the device in tip-top condition.
Thanks for your thoughts, M4io & ZeroXtreme. I also ended up deciding to just reinstall everything and reconfigure all my settings. Now everything is running great.
v1.72.187 for AU XDA2?
I know this is a silly question, but after reading most of the threads, I still cannot help it.
I purchased my O2 XDA2 in AU, will the v1.72.187 posted in sourceo2.com work as simple as described in the PDF?
If it will, why does sourceo2.com say that it's only for UK and Ireland users?
Thanks in advance,
Kurni

One of the backup software can be used for ROM upgrading. Check the forum on the backup guide by Menneisyys (I think).
I have found only one backup software which have posibility restore after ROM ugrade, it was Sprite backup 5.1. I tried it. It works but very bugy... I was need reinstal all programs manualy...

did you follow the upgrade mode faq? most ppl dont thats why the restores buggy. If you follow the faq from start to finish (including backing up the oldROM without pop accounts) then the restore should be perfect after a ROM upgrade

Current ROM backup how to?

Hi everyone. I've been reading for a while and think I've now got enough threads, tools and comments to go ahead and upgrade my Vodafone Hermes to WM6 and one of the cooked ROMs arround.
My only concern is that I still do not have a clear picture about if it's possible to have a full backup of my current ROM as is today in the event my upgrade process is not succesfull (been positive here . I thought I could just pack my current ROM into my PC so I could later restore it but not at all sure how.
Any threads, links or tools would be appreciated. Thanks to everyone for their unvaluable work in this forum... what would we do without it!!!

Absolutely ! SPB Backup and Sprite - two packages I know off. I've being using SPB for quite a while now. It does a complete snapshot of your device an in case your new ROM installation does not go smooth or you simply are not happy with it - just reflash with the orginal base ROM and execute the backup.exe file to return to the point where you started from. So the important thing to remember - before doing anything - make sure you have the original distro base of a ROM you are running right now and if you'll be flashing your device - ensure you have Hard SPL installed.
what is distro base of current rom and also hard spl? Sorry... I am so new to this world of flash upgrades and everything... I am also unsure about the official "official" release of the ROM that was postedlast month for the 8525. First question is... If this doesnt work or I dont like it... can i reinstall the upgrade that will be coming out that is official?

it is very simple. Just do a search for hermes unlocker. The current version is v3a. Or just follow this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665&page=2
You will have to download that unlocker application and follow the instructions. After that, hard SPL and unlocker will be installed automatically. Then you need to buy Sprite Backup software for PPC (there is no good hacked version out there) and backup the phone using that ROM backup feature. After backup is done, it is safe to proceed to ROM upgrade. I would strongly recommend to do the backup before the upgrade because it's much safer. It will save you a lot of troubles if something goes wrong.
SPB Backup does full rom?
I've read some bad comments about SPB backup. I though it only performed backup of data and config and not full ROM, but Moisha's comment sounds like I am not right and is valid to restore from a faulty ROM update.
In any case I understand those are the 2 options and there is no free software available. If that is the case the Sprite Backup looks better to me so I'll have to diff into it.
If I go ahead I'll try to post something about backups as I've not found much info for newbies like me and this is probably the first thing to be done.
Thanks.

ATOM ROM Upgrade concerns

Hi
I am thinking of upgrading my Atom to WM6 using the Roms listed on the Site. I would like to know if there is any way to take complete backup of Phone including ROM to Memory Card so that it can be restored. Not concerned about Apps or Contacts as I have them backed up. My concern is bricking the Phone and as it is out of Warranty and I could not find a local service center, I will be out of a Good Phone.
Also if the ROM upgrade fails, and not possible to take ROM backup to Memory Card, how can I restore the phone to previous WM 5 ROM.
Also if I upgrade successfully, then thereafter if I do Hard Reset, will it restore back to WM 5 or to the WM 6 ROM default state?
Sorry if this is repeat. I did try searching and was not sure of all the answers I found. Main reason for trying to go to WM 6 is to get AES Encryption for WIFI access.
Thanks in Advance.
