I have a T-Mobile MDA Vario II and it just seems that flashing is impossible. I am pulling my hair out!
I have searched the forum and cannot see anyone else having had the same problem
I have tried to flash WM6, as provided by T-Mobile and also I have tried to flash Hard-SPL, but get the same problems with both.
First of all, if I try to flash by flashing from the PC, via ActiveSync, it all seems to be fine until it comes to that actual flashing itself. As soon as the flashing process begins, the phone goes to the bootloader and disconnects from ActiveSync, producing an error message in the program on the PC.
I have tried doing it directly on the phone, as described in post 1160 of the Hard-SPL, Or How to Not Brick Your PDA Ever Again And Fix Bad Blocks! thread, but when I reach step 7, where it should go from the tri-color screen to another screen, asking you to press the power button to start, it doesn't happen! The tri-color screen appears, followed, for less than a second, by a screen which says "Loading..." and then it just goes back to the bootloader screen, where it stays until I do a reset.
Anyone got any ideas at all?
CID Unlock the device then try to flash it, make sure battery is fully charged too. Have you tried entering bootloader manually then trying to flash the tmobile rom?
It won't even let me do that!
I have just tried to do this, using pof's free HTC Hermes SIM & CID Unlocker but even that won't work.
Pof's zip file contains 3 methods of doing this. I'll list all 3, with a description of where it goes wrong each time. Perhaps that will make the problem clearer
Easy auto-install Instructions:

1. Unzip unlocker and run AUTO_Unlock_v3a.bat
2. Follow directions on screen
The .bat file starts a program on the PC. It goes OK, until it sends the phone to the boot loader screen. ActiveSync immediately disconnects and an error message comes up on the PC...
ERROR [260]: CONNECTION
The Update Utility cannot connect to your PDA Phone. Please check that your USB cradle/cable is connected properly between the PC and your PDA Phone
Check the following:
1. The PDA Phone is connected to the USB cradle/cable
The USB cradle/cable is connected to the PC
Click 'Exit' to quit
manual instructions:

1. Transfer SSPL/SSPL-HERM.exe to your phone and run it
2. Tri color screen will appear
3. Disable activesync (file -> connection settings -> uncheck "allow USB connections")
4. Connect your phone to your computer using the USB lead.
As long as the Tri-color screen is showing, the PC does not recognise the PDA Phone as being connected, even if the USB is connected
5. run RUU/RUU_HERM_Unlock_v3a.exe
6. follow the flashing process (Check the "I understand..." and "I completed..." boxes and update!)
Rather unsurprisingly, the same error as above appears
7. Allow your phone to reboot.
8. Transfer HERM_Unlock_v3.exe program to your phone and run it
9. Click the Unlock Button, select unlock option. Select if you want SIM/CID unlock.
10. Click "Unlock!" and wait until process finishes.
11. When done, turn off your phone for 10 seconds and reboot after that.
I actually still went through steps 7 to 11 and it all seemed to work, but although it said the PDA Phone was now SuperCID, it wasn't
update using the SD-Card Method:

1. Unrar RUU_HERM_Unlock_v3a.exe
2. Unrar RUU_Inside.exe This file doesn't exist in the zip file
3. Empty (erase the contents) of your microSD card from the Windows Mobile file explorer
or format it from your computer using a card reader (in some cases format doesn't work).
4. Rename HermesUnlocker_v3a.nbh to HERMIMG.nbh and copy it to the FAT32 formatted microSD card.
5. Insert microSD card on your phone
6. Transfer SSPL/SSPL-HERM.exe to your phone and run it
7. Confirm flashing on screen by pressing the power button. Nothing to confirm. The phone simply goes straight to the Tri-color screen and stays there until you do a soft reset
Again, I don't know how much help it is, but if I go to the boot loader screen, via the power, OK and soft resent buttons, I see the following information...

If I run the SSPL-HERM program on the phone, it takes me to the boot loader screen, but with the following info...

Go to bootloader and tell us what your SPL is... If its 2.10 olipro then you have Hard SPL installed. This process is VERY quick so it may have worked and you just didn't notice the change.
As for using the PC & Activesync, if you have Hard SPl, use the sd card method to load new OS's onto your Phone instead as its safer and easier (same as how you loaded Hard SPL except you don't need to run the SSPL program from your device, just put file on card, rename and reset to bootloader.

I have a UK v1615 that came unlocked. I just inserted my Cyprus sim and it worked. A few others on the forums got theirs unlocked too.
He was well blocked.

This guide will explain how to change your drivers to the xp. You will have problems running the unlocker otherwise. Log in as administrator if you run the ROM update tool and unlocker. That also applies to XP users.
Instructions
============
(The instructions below take preference since they are more current than the readme in the package)
1. Make sure you installed HardSPL as follows: power off and then press power on while keeping camera pressed, this will enter the so called bootloader mode and you see a tri-color screen (Red, Green, Blue). You should see "SPL-1.0 OliPof" on the second line in the top left corner. You can exit this mode by means of a "soft reset": press the reset button with the stylus. (use the hardspl software search where you extracted it)
2. Make a note of the radio version that is currently installed. You see the version strings in the splash screen which appears soon after power on (e.g. "R 1.27.14.09"). Since we will flash a special radio in step 5 you need to flash back your original radio in the last step. You can download radio roms from here.
3. Connect PC and Kaiser with a USB cable and keep it connected until the last step.
4. Power on the Kaiser and let it boot into Windows Mobile. On the PC make sure the activesync icon is green
5. After you unpacked the download (HTC_Kaiser_SIM_Unlock_v0.1.rar) you see directories "step1" and "step2". Go into "step1" and run KaiserCustomRUU.exe. This will flash the special patched radio rom. Follow the instructions until it is finished.
Note that you can also skip step 6. and proceed with step 7.
6. Power off your Kaiser and insert a 'strange' SIM, i.e. a SIM from another provider than the one your phone is locked to.
7. Once Windows Mobile has booted up it will (usually after you have entered the usual 4-digit PIN) show a window called "Simlock" and a textbox where you can enter a 8-digit unlockcode. Now perform a soft reset by pressing the reset button *but* at the same time keep the camera button pressed. If you did it well you will be back in bootloader mode and you see the tri-color screen. The best technique is to press and hold the camera button first and then shortly press the reset button with the stylus.
8a. right-click activeync icon and uncheck "Allow USB connections" from Connection Settings
8b. On your PC go into the "step2" directory and run "kaiser-simunlocker.exe". If all went well you will see the unlockcode on your monitor and your Kaiser is being restarted automatically.

Is there a program that you can run on your phone that allows you to get into bootloader mode without having to press the Power/Camera/ReSet buttons. Now that I can flash (a kitchen/Radio/Rom) with SD card I would like to enter bootloader status without the having to press all the buttons.
Does SPL 2.47 enter this mode when running the exe file on the phone?
i dont know how to do that, but just out of curiosity, why do you need to?
whats wrong with entering bootloader that way?

Coordination
I usually have to try several times because of coordination problems..
Here is what I am doing right know. If I Connect to USB and run "ROMUpdateUtility.exe" with my FAT32 SDcard inserted in my device, it goes into bootloader mode and it loads the SDcard "TITAIMG.nbh" file.
it ask me to hit the power button to start the flashing process and i disconnect the phone and hit the power button.
I was just wondering if there was a .exe file (Utility) that a person could run on the phone to get it into that mode to make it easier to flash SDcard method.
Windows Mobile 6.1
- then device try to configure itself, showing something like disclaimer screen
of Michyprima (I press Continue)
- It asked to choose font: Tahoma or Segoe UI (Vista)?
i just leave it that way (Tahoma) & press Done
- a window appear with text: the changes will be visible only at next startup.
i clicked ok (as this is the only way to continue)
- It says customization will be in 3 secs. It resets by itself.
- the boot process is start all over again from the beginning as continuous looping
after long search of what caused it, i found that i have flashed wrong version of Michyprima's ROM SPL, other words: i used the rom for SPL v3.5 instead of SPL v1.2 version.
Now I do not know how to correct the unit.

i had the same problem before, looping after flashing. but i forgot how i fixed it. tootallk2000 was helping me through the procedure then. maybe he can remember how we fixed it.
Try this step:
1) boot into bootloader mode (push camera and volume all the way down and press reset)
2) Flash any SPL 1.2 rom or stock rom using bootloader mode (untick allow USB connection if activesync unable to detect)
3) done , make sure you only flash SPL 1.2 rom after the unit has been revived
ps : you may also try using SDcard (not SDHC) flashing if unable to connect using activesync. Just rename RUU_signed.nbh to atheimg.nbh and copy into sd card (sdcard must be formatted as fat32). Put sdcard into device and boot into bootloader mode. It will automatically start the process.
pps : if you see there's no ATHE100 on the bootloader screen, then your modelid is corrupted, need to fix it first before you can do any reflash ... plz read post #33 here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387454&highlight=mtty&page=4

Hello.
I tried to update with the ROM from SD card, but it failed.
My phone doesn't boot after that - it hangs up showing just splashscreen and some info -
ONBL 1.07.0000
SPL 1.10.0lip
GSM 02.71.90
OS 1.8.0.0
Hard reset didn't help.
I tried to flash ROM through RUU (device still goes into bootloader by pressing camera+reset/power), but it said
ERROR [200]: Invlid Update Utility
Please get newer Update Utility

You need to first patch your HSPL and then flash a custom ROM.kindly read the ROM Upgrading Guide properly in the GENE forum.you can also find the link in my signature.

Step 5: Use the Orefkov Unlocker

1. Remove the battery, SIM card and SD Card of your phone and press the Power key for 20 seconds to draw out any residual power from the phone.
2. Replace the battery but not the SIM and SD card, and don't start the phone yet. Press and hold the Camera button and then press the Power button or Soft Reset button. Phone will come to boot loader mode (tricolor screen) and SPL 1.10.Olip will be displayed.
3. Connect the USB cable. The text USB will appear on the bottom of the screen.
4. On PC, go to the folder Orefkov in the folder extracted in step 1 and run the Mtty1_42.exe. Press the button "USB" in the window that opened.
5. In the window that opened, type the following command (don't use copy paste please) and press enter:

You'll see a response from phone.
6. Type the following command BUT DON'T PRESS ENTER YET:

ls boot.bin
Note : that is small L and small s in that command, dont mistake it with I.
Now, hold down the Camera button on phone, and press the enter key on computer. After a while, the screen will become White. Continue pressing the Camera button for 10 more seconds.
7. Now release the camera button, close the MTTY program and run ROMUpdateUtility.exe in the same folder, not the one outside it. That one is for RAM flashing that we will use later. Check the boxes in each step and click Next Next and then at last Update. Let it finish the process. Your phone will restart.
8. Now on the splash screen you'll see the info with updated SPL version. The version of SPL will be 1.07.Oref.

then it didn't work.
Mtty connects to the phone, it even says that bootlader patched, enters the "White screen" but RUU that is situated in the "Orefkov" folder says still the same: ERROR [200]: Invalid Update Tool
And btw, Orefkov method is for new gene only, am i right?
And I have an old one. And it's already have 1.10.0lip SPL, that allows custom ROM flashing.

ya..Your SPL is patched and u have old gene
Now u can Flash Any custom rom from here(just No stock roms)
Problem was solved by deliting Active Sync, cleaning registry with CCcleaner and installing Active Sync after that...
I think that there was some driver problem or smthng >_<

Go through the Rom upgrading guide.Read thoroughly and follow every step carefully.there is a difference between Old Gene and New Gene.You will learn as you follow the guide as to which one is yours.Also to avoid invalid update tool errors,make sure your device is properly synced to yur computer.In your cas as the device is fully dead.Perform a Hard Reset.Even if that doesnt work,you have to use JTAG method to get back your Gene.
So follow the Guide and you'll do good.Revert back when your problem is solved.And do not Create New Threads unnecessarily.Post your doubts in the respective threads.

Step 6: Flash the ROM

Now let the phone boot once and then shutdown it. Insert your SIM card, but not the SD card. Go to the PC and copy the ROM file (it must be names RUU_Signed.nbh. Rename it if it has some other name.) into the ROM Update Utility folder that is outside the Orefkov and SPL Patcher folder.
Now press and hold the camera button and start your phone to go into the Boot loader mode once again.
Now Run the RomUpdateUtility.exe and follow her instructions. Please make sure that you are not running RomUpdateUtility inside the Orefkov folder in SPL Updater folder. You must use the one outside, in the RomUpdateUtility folder. Your phone will automatically go into bootloader mode and a progress bar will be displayed on both phone and PC. Once it completes, your phone will restart again and you'll get the phone with the brand new ROM.
But Mine is Still Dead When i Press Power Button only redlight blink.
also it can go to bootloader when i press power + camera key.

I follow the guide and Upgrade my SPL Olipro to Orefkov's.

Step 5: Use the Orefkov Unlocker

1. Remove the battery, SIM card and SD Card of your phone and press the Power key for 20 seconds to draw out any residual power from the phone.
2. Replace the battery but not the SIM and SD card, and don't start the phone yet. Press and hold the Camera button and then press the Power button or Soft Reset button. Phone will come to boot loader mode (tricolor screen) and SPL 1.10.Olip will be displayed.
3. Connect the USB cable. The text USB will appear on the bottom of the screen.
4. On PC, go to the folder Orefkov in the folder extracted in step 1 and run the Mtty1_42.exe. Press the button "USB" in the window that opened.
5. In the window that opened, type the following command (don't use copy paste please) and press enter:

set 32 1
You'll see a response from phone.
6. Type the following command BUT DON'T PRESS ENTER YET:

ls boot.bin
Note : that is small L and small s in that command, dont mistake it with I.
Now, hold down the Camera button on phone, and press the enter key on computer. After a while, the screen will become White. Continue pressing the Camera button for 10 more seconds.
7. Now release the camera button, close the MTTY program and run ROMUpdateUtility.exe in the same folder, not the one outside it. That one is for RAM flashing that we will use later. Check the boxes in each step and click Next Next and then at last Update. Let it finish the process. Your phone will restart.
8. Now on the splash screen you'll see the info with updated SPL version. The version of SPL will be 1.07.Oref.
Congrats! you have successfully patched your SPL.

Step 6: Flash the ROM
---------------------------
Now let the phone boot once and then shutdown it. Insert your SIM card, but not the SD card. Go to the PC and copy the ROM file (it must be names RUU_Signed.nbh. Rename it if it has some other name.) into the ROM Update Utility folder that is outside the Orefkov and SPL Patcher folder.
Now press and hold the camera button and start your phone to go into the Boot loader mode once again.
Now Run the RomUpdateUtility.exe and follow her instructions. Please make sure that you are not running RomUpdateUtility inside the Orefkov folder in SPL Updater folder. You must use the one outside, in the RomUpdateUtility folder. Your phone will automatically go into bootloader mode and a progress bar will be displayed on both phone and PC. Once it completes, your phone will restart again and you'll get the phone with the brand new ROM.
But Mine is Still Dead When i Press Power Button only redlight blink.
also it can go to bootloader when i press power + camera key.
i have sucessfully update my rom but now phone still dead

Hi Friend i have the same problem
I successfully go to the (3. Connect the USB cable. The text USB will appear on the bottom of the screen.) after that when touch the usb text on my mobile it not responding & the Mtty1_42.exe programe the window will open but i cannot write any thing. please help me .
Make sure that you have removed SIM card and Storage card and try to connect it again.Then run mtty1_42.exe and select USB in the port then press OK.Hope this will help you.

I already remove my sim & storage card but now i can not switch on my phone / When i Press Power Button only redlight blink. also it can go to bootloader when i press power + camera key.

when i chose USB button of mobile it is not responding & I can not write any thing in mttyy1_42 programe.
to be able to do the command in the MTTY programe, for the first you should disable activesync -> connection settings -> uncheck "allow USB connections"

Thank you friend i already done it, when conect the phone to computer through USB ,In a corner position of the phone USB is written, but when i open the MTTY program it open & shows the Port option to chose , but it is not showing the USB option in that option.

If it does not exist, You can add it by typing USB on port column option

I add it but i got this " \\.\WCEUSBSH001 port can not open" Error Message.
(If Any thing i have to do after connecting USB Cable to phone to PC)
