First Impressions Official HTC Touch Dual - Windows Mobile® 6.1 Professional Upgrade - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus ROM Development

Last saturday i have upgraded my Touch Dual with the latest official Dutch ROM from HTC. These are my first impressions:
My nike was running with HardSPL v.1.15 and an custom build ROM with the dopod s600 dll inside. After the upgrade my SPL was still showing the same 1.15 version.
At first i thought the performance of the new rom was much slower than the WM6.0 ROM, so i did the following. I reverted back to the original spl that came with this phone (v1.16) using NetrunnersAT instructions and did the flash again. After that the my SPL was showing version 1.22.0000 and the performance of the phone was way better. I'm now very happy with the performance. The only thing i'm now waiting for, is the Hardware 3d drivers to run smoothly on this ROM.
I'm very curious about everyone else's experiences.
For the people how want to flash their branded (vodafone, orange etc etc) touch dual's, follow these steps:
1. download the spl files (flash-uspl-niki.zip & sspl-1.16-nike) from this thread.
2. REMOVE SIM and SD CARDS !!
3. connect usb cable
4. copy sspl-1.16-nike.exe to your device and run it (usb cable must be connected!)
5. after a few seconds "USB" appears on the display
6. unplug and replug the usb cable
8. you can now flash the USPL by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-uspl-niki
9. after installing the uspl the phone will reboot
10. after that you can flash the new HTC rom update.
Congratulations, you are now running the new Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM, with the new 1.22 SPL and the new 1.65.28.25 Radio rom.
Note: To solve the bug with not getting the sim pincode screen after the upgrade, you have to switch the phone function off and on using the comm manager, or touch the signal icon at the top the screen to make it come back again.

Good ROM, faster than the "old" wm6 ROM.

Yes for me its really faster than the original rom
and it have the Cube

never mind, i looked with my eyes closed, got it from dutch htc webbie

Performance is alot better.
Sux that they removed Microsofts new home screen so that the only "advanced" home screen you got is the same "HTC Home" as in the old version. It would be nice to be able to choose the new home screen that Microsoft have made in WM6.1

Anyone else to confirm this?
And how can you flash the update again after reverting back to original spl? Is it because you have an unbranded niki? Mine is from orange, will i be able to flash with spl 1.16?

i was able to flash it again i had a vodafone branded niki

Is it really necessary to flash the new rom again after reverting back to spl 1.16?
Why flashing spl 1.16 not enough?
Thx

For those of you who tried it, the video response is slower, equal or better than the dopod s600 dll?
Thank you.

In my case, the only way to get the new 1.22 SPl installed. was to revert back to the original 1.16 SPl and then reflash the new rom again. I guess the new update only installs the new spl, if the original 1.16 is installed.

Hey twolf,
I have the feeling it's even better than the dopod s600 response.
Grtz

I have tried a few things
If you have HardSpl on your device , no new SPL will be flashed.
If you have USpl on your device you will get new SPL (1.22) on your device. No need for Original SPL, USpl is enough.
USpl is always overwritten if you flash a "full" Rom.
I have the feeling if new SPL 1.22 is on the device it's a bit faster than (Hard)SPL 1.15/1.16 could also only be a feeling

New HTC 6.1 on my Niki
the new rom run nice - first the battery consumption is higher compare to other kitchen roms and the general performance is a bit slow.
anyone share same impression?

Until now, my impression is that this rom runs very nice. Performance is just a little bit slower than cooked roms. But my oppinion is, the rom is more stable than cooked ones.
Free Space could be better :-(
~ 105MB Storage
~ 55MB Ram
Battery drain i cant say much to, because i have my nike nearly the whole day connected to my pc.
Signal strength is better tahn old roms.
No problems found so far, al my programs i use are ok.
UPDATE:
I have tested SPL 1.15MFG and 1.22, my feeling 1.22 speeds up the device a bit.

For performance feelings, it would be nice if people could post wich spl they use:
1.15MFG, or 1.22?
There's people telling that the new spl 1.22 make the official wm6.1 upgrade faster and i think it would be interesting to know if this is really the case.

I have hard spl 1.15mfg on my device and running wm6.1 for one day now. Can't really notice any performance gain since. What is the most easy way to get my spl to 1.22 now?

I have upgrade the phone from my wife and I found that after the start the screen where you need to enter your pin code is not there, it only visable for 1 second and then it disapears.
Anyone has the same issue, and what can I do to resolve it.

I've got the same issue. It looks like something is starting over it and put the pin-code screen tot the background. When you touch the signal icon at the top the screen comes back again. If that won't work you can put your phone into flight mode and than into normal mode and your pincode request is there.

G4 - Different IPL/SPL

I tried to serach this on the forums but could not find a similar case.
I have a Qtek that originally came with 2.22.17.1 rom, both IPL/SPL being 2.22.0001.
I CID unlocked my G4 Wizard with imei-check. Before installing Qtek's 2.17 ROM in order to get BB Connect running (which I did), I backed up the original ROM via aWizard and r2sd all.
Two days later, frustrated by the not so cool reconciliation of my email messages via BB Connect and the poor performance of 2.17 ROM, I decided to move back to the original one.
Now my IPL is 2.22.0001 and the SPL is 2.17.0001.
Do I have to Should I be concerned about this or should I forget it?
Thanks
Rafael K
If you're device still boots ok then I think it's not much of a problem. It's very strange though, haven't seen it before.
Solved Partially
The device was and is working ok (so it seems).
Well, I have installed T-mobile 2.21 rom this morning in order to try BB Connect again. I must say that this ROM is much faster than QTek's 2.17 (and very similar in performance when compared to QTek's 2.22 - the one my PPC came with).
Now I have IPL/SPL both at 2.21. I imagine that if I try to get back to QTek 2.22, I will end up with IPL 2.22 and SPL 2.21.
I'm afraid that when I dumped the whole original ROM before starting to play with other roms, the SPL wasn't copied correctly. I didn't see any errors while restating the original rom, but who knows what may really be the cause...
Thanks for your reply.
You got 2 of the same version numbers now. I wouldn't flash another ROM that contains IPL/SPL if I were you because it could have side-effects.
If you like the speed of the T-Mobile rom than you will be really impressed by the great custom roms around on this site. If you're device is still CID-locked (can only be unlocked through paying at imei-check) I suggest Molski's 2nd 2.26 edition rom. Allways take the G4 version, never flash a G3 rom!
Thanks, Vippie.
I now understand I have to get rid of the IPL/SPL portion of the roms available. When I have more time, I will read about it and make it a "personnal best practice"...

Well, I would certainly like to give other ROMs a shoot but I am really interested in maintaining the blackberry connect service working here and, up to now, as I understanding, the best combinations for that involve Qtek version 2.17 or Tmo 2.21 ROMs.

New radio ROM 1.38.00.10 (from hermes)

I've extracted the radio ROM from latest Dopod chinese ROM and packaged here as a standalone NBH radio upgrade:
HERM_RADIO_1.38.00.10_Only_SSPL.rarThis radio has HTC_BOOT 0108 and no GPS enabled.
Keep in mind that the safest procedure to upgrade your radio right now is:
Flash Hard-SPL v1.10.Oli on your phone
Flash the desired radio upgrade using the RUU package
Both steps have to be done with phone connected to computer through USB cable and activesync enabled, Des SSPL will be pushed into your phone when the RUU starts.
Remember that when flashing a radio only you don't need to hard-reset your phone, so no data will be lost.
Note: Same radio GPS enabled (from trinity) is available here
Enjoy!
Thanks pof!
Flashing now...
EDIT- Flashed 100% ok, now using with full network reception.
Will post again if there's any probs.
is it have problems when i flash this radio to my x10HT?
no, there is nothing at all special about the x10HT folks...
personally, I recommend everyone uses this one instead of the trinity radio simply because we can't have GPS anyway and for the power you're wasting on non-working chip, it's pointless.
just wanted to say thanks. i had the newest trinity rom installed earlier and this has better battery life.
thanks a lot pof
I think I'll give this one a try... Thanks!
Given my device is SuperCID, does it make sense to apply the Hard-SPL still?
I have HERM_RADIO_1.38.00.11 but I install this new radio because the previous one spent the battery to me very fast.
moving over to this, no point having the gps enabled deal!
Completely agree, until we can get the GPS on the hermes working (which is unlikely due to bricking risk) there really is no need for us to have the GPS rom from the trin.
pof! thanks man I also had the gps 11 version and i figured why not go with the 10 version as well since we wont get GPS anytime soon, i will test for a few days and report back...
Removed the Trinity 1.38 radio very quickly but initial impressions of this native Hermes ROM are far more favourable.
Not had it installed long enough to get an impression of battery life yet but reception and stability seem good so far.

SPL 3.5 Question

Before I get flamed I did search first.
I have SPL 1.2 and have safely loaded new ROMs several times on my x7500.
I note some ROMs are for SPL 3.5 only.
My confusion is that there does not seem to be a generic SPL 3.5 as there is a 1.2 Instead, the SPL 3.5 seems coupled with a particular ROM, like AP 4.0. Or am I dead wrong (which as my wife will tell you happens all the time). If so, can someone just post the link to the generic SPL 3.5. Thanks.
Hi Ghengis
SPL 3.5 came about because the athena project team wanted to port the OS off the new X7510 and it is too big to fit in the current partition on SPL 1.etc.
SPL 3.5 changes the configuration of the OS partition and trying to install the original ROMs does not work, hence the modified SPL 3.5 ROMs.
The Wrapper to instal SPL 3.5 is in the original AP4 updater and so far I don't think it is available elsewhere
hth
Lakeman, thank you. I guess the only way to get SPL 3.5 is to install AP 4.0 first. I guess I'll sit tight and see how the new ROMs shake out. I have the Irus vanilla ROM and it's doing OK. Thanks again.
On a slightly tangential direction. What are the pros and cons of SPL 3.5 over SPL 1.2 other than the fact that there is no going back for SPL 3.5.

So what is SPL then. Is it like a "bios" for the athena or is it just extremely low level drivers. Pardon my ignorance as I cant understand why the above mentioned things cannot work on SPL 1.2 with the appropriate software.
Please this is a genuine question as I would like to understand the software stack of the Athena.
thanks

well htc album and htc home you can use with spl 1.2 but has far as the auto rotate i tried to make it work with the guidance of cmonex with no luck
edit: sorry i forgot this. if you try ap4 spl 1.2 you can have auto rotate but for some reason in that rom u are unable to connect to data.
spl is the secondary program loader [im guessing that, because ipl is intial program loader] it is what loads the os partition of the rom.
What if i want to downgrade to another Radio-ROM if i already upgraded to SPL3.5? The 1.57 Radio doesn't reconnect to network if no signal for more than 1 hour (like at some places at work).

The question was, what the advantage was of SPL3.5 over SPL 1.2, not advantage of one ROM over the other. There is no. Only SPL3.5 reformats all the memory in such a way that bigger ROM taken from X7510 (with more apps) can be put in speciall part of memory.
The point is that once you decide that you prefer to use AP4, you will get SPL3.5 with it no matter whether you like it or not. And next thing is that getting it on your machine is one way ticket, up to now, because AP team did not prepare any solution to return back to SPL1.2 nor 1.1.
So if you decide that AP4 or new AP5 beta gives you something you can not resist, then go for it and then wait antill AP team resolves problems with getting back to "standard" SPL1.2. They will do it eventually, just give them some time.
But if you do not want to risk, then go for SPL1.2 and then try some flavour of Irus ROMs which are, some say (including me), also very good if not the best. Luckily AP team and Irus are already working more or less together so we all can gain out of it.
Resently Irus has prepared a thin version of AP4 (meaning removed some apps) to be able to put the ROM in "standard" for X7500 SPL1.2. This means those apps can be installed later from cab installers, but I don't exactly now wich apps he romoved and if there are cabs for them somewere.
I personaly use his first WM6.1 version named "Full"and am very happy with it. I have installed a lot of apps starting from UL, with HTC Home, M$ Live, Google maps (or maybe it was alredy on board),Polish AutoMapa, 2 versions of Opera (both working great), all Resco possible, SPG Plus (now only to have some additions because UL is better), VoIP AgeePhone (I run VoIP network) and many, many more. All works well, no problems and if, then only to find the icon someware.

Just install Radio 1.50. Can use both with AP4.
thanks a lot guys for your informative answer.
I have just bought a 7500 (prefer buttons over ssd) and am in the process of trying out stuff. I just couldnt figure out what SPL was.
I am already checking out irus' wm6.1 vanilla and already i prefer it over ap 3.0.
I appreciate all the responses to this thread I started. I've learned a lot.
I think I will stay with SPL 1.2 for now. But I have a question. If I was inclined to use SPL 3.5, is the only way to get it to first load the AP 4 ROM. So if I wanted to try AP 5, I'd first have to load AP 4? Or does AP 5 also have a wrapper for SPL 3.5, as does AP 4? Thanks.

Thanks. I wasn't sure because the first post for the AP 5 beta states:
"now here is the rom(remember this is for spl 3.5 only): DOWNLOAD SPL 3.5 ONLY"
But the "DOWNLOAD SPL 3.5 ONLY" link was to AP5.0Beta.rar, which appears to be the AP 5 beta, not SPL 3.5. Hence my confusion.
In any event, thanks for clearing this up.

[Q] htc hd2 stock rom 6.5.3

can somebody please help me, I have flashed 5 different ROM's to my vodafone HD2 and have encountered a varying degree of problems with each one. I would very much like somebody to tell me where I can get a Stock ROM not locked to any carrier so I can reflash my pretty usless fone or indeed to help direct me to a stable cooked ROM that would allow my fone to work again.
Thanks is advance.
P.s - my first post so please be gently, also the last 3 I have tried are Artemis ROM's with no sucessful outcomes.

there is no stock rom that is 6.5.x They are all 6.5
Not sure what you mean by stock rom not locked to a carrier, , do you mean a non branded rom (the ones marked HTC WWE, look HERE or in the various threads in the rom development section.) or do you mean you want to unlock your phone to use any network? in which case no amount of any kind of flashing will do that. Ask voda for a code, or buy one online.
Sounds to me like you need to return all the way to stock and start over. Get any of the voda roms from that link above (theyre marked vodaphone, you cant miss em, theres a 1,43 one, a 1.66 one ((if you're a brit)) or 1.72 if you have a european language voda.
Get that, and either
1 - remove hspl by running hspl.exe and choosing 1.66.0000
then
2 - run the downloaded rom.exe and flash over usb
or
1 - extract ruu_signed.nbh from the rom.exe you downloaded,(look it up if you dont know how) copy it to a formatted fat32 sd card smaller than 8gb, and rename it leoimg.nbh then start the phone into bootloader and it will ask you if you want to flash.
that way you are back to teh start, and you can apply hspl and start again.
(For people reading this thinking 'he didnt say do a task29',, its my understanding that using the official .exe to flash the rom does a task 29 anyway, and its been edited out of customruu.exe so it can be used to flash radios without wiping the rom,,,correct? yes no?)
I try 6 Rom but noone will work fine
Vodafone rom 1.72
I am not looking to unlock the fone, simply find a Rom that is 6.5.3 that is stable. I have just flashed back to voda 1.72 but that is 6.5, im fussy and don't like the start button at the top. I'm in scotland so need something that will work here ok on vodafone.
I was hoping to find a rom that had not been altered and as such an original (Stock) ROM.
your help is much appreciated.
There are no such stock roms for the HD2. If you want to flash a stable rom in the style you like (start button at the bottom) then you will need to HSPL (search the forum) your phone and I suggest you start with Dutty's rom. It's very stable and as close to stock as can be. You can always flash back to an original rom for warranty reasons if you need to.
tnx, trying one now. fingers crossed.
ok, just flashed one of duttys roms but now my phone will not boot, it turns on and stays at the htc splash screen. Wont turn off have to pull out the battery. If it will not boot how can I re-flash it? Any suggestions?
did you flash hspl? you will also need the newer radio 2.15.50_04

I hope you did some reading before you flashed!!
Put your phone into bootloader by holding the vol down side key and use a pen to push the little reset button when the back cover is removed. You should get a tri colour screen which shows you the hspl version you have. If you do this you can flash the correct radio which is probably why the phone will not boot.
all I have done previously is downloaded .nbh files and used SSPL_RUU.exe to flash and they have all flashed sucessfully, but with the after effects of either connection problems or freezing issues.
I have managed to re-flash to the vodafone 1.72 software so at least it is working again, this is not by any means where my talents lie. im a hardware guy, not software, so finding this all a bit confusing. I may just go with the artemis v33 rom which seemed to work the best apart from occassion signal dropouts.
Just out of curiosity - which hspl and radio are you using?
in the settings it says radio 2.07.51.22-2 and i believe the hspl was 1.42

What my main concern is however, is whether you think it's possible for me to install Windows 7 on this model or do I have to go to an older ROM and SPL version to achieve this.
Any help greatly appreciated thank you

Ass for I know, to be able to install WP7 ROM on your HD2 you will need HSPL. And probably you know it already, but stock ROM 3.14 isn't compatible with HSPL, so yes you need to downgrade your stock ROM before.

But how? Where to find it?
I must do that from SD card if i understand?

To get back to your original SPL, you will need to do it using SD card method. If you use Activesync method, it will only upgrade the SPL and won't downgrade.
similar problem on my HD2
Thanks for the heads up, I did as suggested before...
So..
1. I got ROM 1.66 with Radio 15.30.50 from HTC forum and installed in order to downgrade my ROM
2. After that I flashed HSPL2 and selected SPL-2.08.HSPL
(After this it showed phone was hacked successfully and after it rebooted I can't get past the hanging white screen)
3. I *ignored this* then switched off phone and got into boatloader again and ran MAGLDR112 and the RUU loaded up to 100% and booted up but again it still hangs at the white screen stopping at the htc logo. That's when I thought probably step 2 was where I had hit a problem...
4. After a couple of attempts I decided to put it back to the 1.66 I got from HTC forum so I can use phone for the meanwhile
- I have been following the threads, and a lot of people seem to suggest that the white screen is something to do with having the wrong radio version. (Do you share the same thoughts or have I gone completely wrong elsewhere in your opinion?)
- And if it is a radio issue which do you think goes best with the MAGLDR112 and LEO70-ROM
- If someone could paste a link I'd be happy to follow it up
[Starting to feel like one of those people forum heads are not fond of for not reading and understanding enough]

Not right sir, even if you install stock ROM over ActiveSync it will upgrade and also downgrade your SPL version.

Stock ROM 1.66 have radio 2.07.51 integrated; but Android builds needs minimum radio 2.08.50 so before you install Android upgrade your radio.

You are right about that. I stand corrected. This was proven through my tests yesterday. In the past, with my Athena, it worked differently.

2.07.50 also worked fine for me for WinMO 6.5 (Energy), Darkstone SuperRam 1.5 and WP7. In fact WP7 NAND & Darkstone from SD ran fine with MAGLDR112.
Updated Radio solved problem

Worked like a charm. I put on Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14** from one of the threads and from then on I then put back SPL-2.08HSPL and then loaded MAGLDR112 and it allowed me to access bootloader and from there I loaded the DWI file for Windows 7. Everything became kinda self-explanatory after following your help... Awesome, Windows 7 rocks... Off to activate the live services...
