Most stable radio for o2 mini S and how to upgrade it? - G4

Hi,
I have this wizard for couple of years.
It works fine but sometimes looses connection with GSM (became unavailable).
The bad joke is that I do not know about it (signal indicator shows good signal and others are ok).
At the moment I'm using the following firmware:
ipl 2.21.0001
spl 2.21.0001
gsm 02.07.10
os 2.21.4.1
WM5
I think the first possible solution is to upgrade radio.
Which version works most stable? Where is it? How to reprogram it without hard reset and reflashing all device (too hard to backup and reinstall all the software)?
Thanks.
Oleg.

Check out 'XDA-Wiki' you'll find all the Radio Roms listed there.
Its very simple to flash and upgrade Radio Rom,just hook up the phone with pc via usb cable and run the RUU in the Radio Rom,it'll hardly take a couple of minutes to flash.

I've found 2.71 with RUU_GO.exe
Is it the file to run? Is it suitable for 'operators' phone (G4)?
Can I be sure that nothing will happens with the current apps and data?

All Radio Roms are safe to flash to any device,G3 or G4,it just flashes and upgrades the GSM files and nothing else is changed or effected,it doesn't have any IPL/SPL (Bootloaders) in it.None of your personal data or application will get effected.
The most stable and commonly used Radio rom is considered to be is 2.19.11 and 2.69.11.But everyone have their own experiences,it all depends which suites you the best.

Hi,
thank you!
you were right about simplicity
last time (couple years ago) it was much more tricky to reprogram all rom
just flashed 2.69 radio and will check it's stability

i have 3.02... radio on a g4

Please kindly help me downgrade to Radio 2.19.11

Hi!
long time viewer first time poster.
I have G4 CID LOCKED Cingular 8125 with mfrazzz's Crossbow Reloaded 1.7.1 I have wizard love Rom as Base.
I really tried hard to update (I guess it is really a downgrade) my original Radio from 02.25.11 to 2.19.11 but no matter what I do, it failed.
I tried with every romupdateutility_wizard_noid.exe i could find but I get the same result everytime.
ON PC: I get 260 Error (tried in two machines same error message)
and
On my Wizard: stuck in this 3 colored screen. I see 3 color screen with "RUU" in right upper corner and "USB" on left bottom with IPL/SPL version showing in red If i press reset button, it will boot back to mobile windows fine.
Can anybody help me?
My rest device info:
ROM Version: 2.18.0.0 WWE
ROM date:2/14/06
IPL/SPL: 2.25.0001
GSM:02.25.11
Protocol version? 4.1.13.12
ExtROM version: faria V5.0
My Downgrade
All I did was use the rom upgrade utility from the "wizard love rom" (the one that is in Italian) and the T-mobile radio rom listed in the Wiki.
Worked like a charm!
thanks for the reply..
but of course i tried that already.
i think error 260 is communication related issue. PC communicate perfectly with ActiveSync.. but when it reboot for the flashing to occur,it just get stucked as if pc is not communicating with the wizard.
is downgrade to 2.19.11 really worthy?

Is your device actually booting up? If so, just download one of the radio ONLY roms. It won't matter whether you have a CID locked phone or not and the radio ONLY rom will not touch the IPL/SPL.
Having said that, is there a reason why you want to downgrade to 2.19? Are you having missed calls issues?
Hi titus666,
I am having the same ROM and missed call issues too.Even when i am on a full coverage area my wizard signals seems to dropping, coming back, dropping ....
What could be the probalem .Any recommended Radio ROMS's.
Probably you read this already

A little bit off regarding your initial post but here´s good feedback on how both radios behave.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=312834
I've had some problems as well.
I used the tool that came in the download to downgrade to 2.19 (I am having missed calls problem) and it won't.
I'm using a Windows Vista and already did the whole thing to update drivers with the one given on the forum over here, yet, everytime I run the thing it crashes and then I have to go through it all over again.
Its like the driver just doesn't work anymore, even though I have tried "re-updating" it to the one that I downloaded here, unlike the real Roms this one just won't go throguh and wait for the 3 colored screen to come up, just freezes before.

"no GSM" problem. All workaround posted doesn't work! Pls HELP!!!

Hi all,
First of all I want to let you know that I did search the forum for a solution. In fact, I found a lot of workarounds but none of them actually worked.
Let me give some details about my problem: My Hermes was working fine. I was running the official WM6 ROM supplied by HTC, so no customized ROM here.
It was going fine until the WM frozed. Then I soft reset the device and after that I never got cellular signal again.
While booting the device I got the message: "no GSM".
First thing I tried was to flash a new radio ROM. In all the attempts the progress bar never moved from 0% and after a while I got the communication problem error.
Then I tried flashing a whole ROM. This time the progress bar stopped at 81%. Apparently in the first 81% it flashes the OS and in the last 19% it writes the radio. Anyway, I tried this a few times and never finished.
In fact, after every communication error message I got stuck in the bootloader screen.
The only thing that works is to flash a ROM WITHOUT the radio!!
Is there anything I can do to save my phone or am I condemned to use my Hermes as a phone-less pda?
I tried everything I found in the wiki/forums, but I couldn't find a working solution.
I suspect that the blocks of memory where the radio data reside got corrupted, could that be possible?
PLEASE HELP!
thanks in advance!
Chris
A similar thing happen to me several months ago. While on a call my phone froze and when I soft-reset it the dreaded 'No GSM' issue appeared. I tried flashing radios/full roms/etc, but nothing worked. I ended up sending my phone to the htc repair facility and they fixed it at no cost. (Other than not having a phone for ~10 days)
Thanks dang, but I don't have a HTC service center where I live (Argentina, LATAM)
I'm faithful that the people of this wonderful community will be able to help me.
Just for curiosity, where did you send your device? Is it in the US?
cheers
sounds like a hardware problem to me...
Hi, there! I found that a lot of us who have bricked our Hermes, don't have a responsive radio bootloader, so when they try to flash a full rom, the progress bar hangs to 13%, or 81%. This is because at that time the flasher is trying to enter the radio bootloader, but because it's corrupted, it hangs. Till today there is no known solution to this one. I'm far away from England where I bought my Hermes, so I'm not thinking to send it back for repair. I'm a programmer, so my knowledge may be usefull here. The first thing I must know is if i can use the "lnb" command without being SuperCID. I mean if there is something like a Hard-SPL with an "lnb" command - (or renamed for security reasons). Maybe there is hope!
How can I try that?

You can use 'lnb' in HardSPL without having a real SuperCID; however you will not be able to flash a radio with 'lnb' command. The radio chipset has its own bootloader, the and the SPL just acts as a pass-through sending the data directly to radio chipset through the s2410 UART.
I had one device with non-responsive htc_boot and tried all kinds of SPL patches to flash htc_boot again on radio, without success. The only known method to fix this is to take the BGA chip out with hot air and reflash it with special hardware, as it is not common to have this equipment at home, your only option is to send it somewhere to do it for you.
However, I don't want to discourage you to research on it, maybe you find something i didn't
I have a similar problem
I also have a NO GSM and corrupted CID but I can access KITL and use it with PB 5.0. and I followed this steps here but the phone doesnt boot completely. It stops just after the two boot screens on Black WM6 ending on a white screen and the debug window on PB after loading all sort of things begin showing these lines over and over:
@@@@@@ HUB state changes now @@@@@@
[HDC]HubStatusChangeThreadPN TRUE
[HDC]HubStatusChangeThreadPN FALSE
Is there any hope for me? I have the cingular 8525
thanks
Gents, do you think the solution presented in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280425 could help me?
Please advise.
thanks again

I just got my replacement from ATT.. Had the same problem. Its a hardware problem.. I wouldnt waste anymore of your time.
first, i'm sorry for my english
I've the same problem with a V1605 (french SFR), i've tried every solution but flash radio doesn't work.
I can flash cooked os without any problem, but it's impossible to put official
It's only a pda now, it's better than a brick
My hernes use to be the same as you 'NoGSM'.I tried to install the official rom,but it 's not work at all.I called to service center ask this problem,so they said that it must be only changed the mainboard. That 's terrible!!!

No GSM but when sim inserted
Hi all, First sorry for my bad english.
I also have 2 bricked Tytn Hermes 200. Its not my personal ones Its my company's property, which pple were using this phones. So i'm facin with problem which many pple here having but with exception. both phones having no gsm error when sim inserted but without sim its fine. In other words , device info showing every info including IMEI when sim unavailable. And some times works with sim but after making few call and receiving phone hangs(not system) and goes off from network but anthena signal still showing few bars. I'm thinking maybe the radio hangs totally and goes off, and after soft restart NO GSM. I also tried many flashing upgrading those things nothing can really help me.
When im flashing original rom from HTC (the latest one HTC_TyTN_WWE_3.54.255.3_6275_1.48.00.10_108) its hanging on 12% and doing 3 or 4 times recovery , but its finishes succesfully. So what exactly happening in 12th%?. Maybe its started flashing radio and stopped on bad block ? But then why its finishes succesfully after few retry?. Ok so if any one wants to experiments on the phones except radio welcome. I'll help. And some can give me quick example of how to check bad blocks?.
Tnx.

#1. have you try the comm button+reset button hold for 2-3 seconds
#2. OR try the comm button+OK button+reset button hold for 2-3 seconds
anyway, i'm not sure if KITL is dependend on the ROM version. because when my device was in NO GSM status, SPL is 1.04, HTC bootloader is 0108, and lost SuperCID. Because of my device is still has SPL 1.04, i was able to load WM5 full ROM upgrade using WWE HTC English QTEK_001 2.05.255.1 01/17/07 version (ROM available on this site under HERMES Upgrade link), run it twice. once you have successful load the WM5 ROM then try to do step #1 or #2 above to get KITL USB display on your screen device.
Note: i don't think KITL mode is not available once your device is in Production Mode. anyone here can verify this?

My device is still SuperCID and I know I don't have KITL...I have SPL 1.04 as well and HTC Bootloader is 0108. I can't install any ROMs with radios as they will hang at 11/12%. I will attempt this "overload" method where it seems some people have had luck with it...after a few recoveries it just finally installs...but I don't think that will be the case.
If I can't fix this in a few days, I will most likely use my warranty or just wait for the Kaiser.
My variation of No GSM
I feel like I have problem 1A...where I am able to boot into OS but no GSM.
I am still SuperCID, SPL 1.04, HTC Bootloader 0108. Last known radio before corruption was 1.48.00.00. ROM where this problem occured: VP3G 3.60.1.
I was not even in the middle of an upgrade...just a soft reset after my phone ALREADY lost GSM capabilities during a tether session. It was stuck with no signal in Phone Mode...I put it in Flight Mode...then tried to move it back to Phone Mode and it wouldn't do so. I soft reset...and the no GSM stuck.
I tried to reinstall radio...many errors...stuck on bootloader. At first, OS's only were not installing as well but I got past that. Now I am able to boot into OS's with limited capabilities...and they will NOT ACTIVESYNC at all. Regardless of how old or new the ROM is. I tried older OS's that I knew worked in the past for me...but they refused to activesync.
Due to that, I am not able to install latest HardSPL 2.10Oli via SSPL. That seems to be the only way to do it according to my knowledge and what I've read. Maybe mtty was capable but I'm not sure. HardSPL 1.40Oli wasn't giving me any problems though, but I just wanted to have the latest one so I can avoid IPL damage.
I can only install anything if I start the device in bootloader...and I'm only limited to the OS since my Radio Bootloader seems corrupted.
I'm not sure what caused the corruption in the first place...but I feel annoying now posting on different parts of the forum with a problem that seems to be growing in the community.

Missed calls in WM6

Several months back, I was looking to upgrade my G3 Prophet (Imate Jamin). I had one serious problem with all the WM6 ROMs I've tried, as well as with Aserg's3.3 ROM.
The phone will intermittently not recieve calls. The caller is quickly diverted to voice mail, and I get no ring, no notification of a missed call, and no message waiting indicator. As a surgeon who's on call a fair amount, this was unacceptable. Problems with contacts or wifi settings I could work through.
I went from Fantastic Mobitz 1.1i to PDAViet 4.0.0.0.3 to Aserg 3.3 without resolution. I have tried Radio ROMs 2.20.21, 2.47.21, 2.61.21, and 2.69.21 without success in all of them.
In the end, I downgraded to the latest shipped WWE ROM, which was AKU 2.2. This has been fairly stable, but as I look at the newest Touch ROMS, I can't help but feel a new case of ROM envy coming on.
Has anyone had the same problem with the early Crossbow ROMs? If so, has it been fixed in the later ROMS? I know there are lots of people out there who have never had any missed call problems, so my question is only for those few people like myself who missed calls with early versions of WM6. Was this fixed in later versions? Specifically, which ones?
Much thanks,
Alan
Gave in to the temptation.
After waiting a few days for a reply, I couldn't resist - I flashed Prophet Touch X when it became available.
I love the ROM - Fast, nifty touch features, Cube, etc.
However, I still have the same problems - I frequently and intermittently do not receive calls, there is no missed call indicator or missed phone numbers showing.
Does anyone know the cause or a fix? I can't bear the thought of going back to WM5!
My device is a G3 Prophet (Imate Jamin):
IPL 2.20
SPL 2.20.0000
Protocol 4.1.13.24
OS 10.0.0.0
EXTRom Prophet Touch X

Which rom do you use for step 1 ? try to flash with another NVID Flash step 1 or PV_temp then flash to WM6. otherwise you can try to change the radio rom to 2.19
If the problem still exist, i think your phone is having problem with the Radio hardware.

u listed everything but the radio rom. Try different radio version.
2.20.x prob good for balance.
2.69.x is hte newest radio rom, a bit harsh on the battery consumption
2.19.x is old, might not work on all the gprs stuff.
JUST me experince, YMMV.
I have a imate just like yours, same IPL/SPL.
never had that problems and always flashed my imate with G4 step 1 roms.

Sorry, had a lapse there..
My RadioROM is 2.47.21. I had tried multiple RadioROMs before in earlier WM6 versions, with no change. On the other hand, some other threads that seem related have had success with 2.19.21, so I'll give it a try. I don't use GPRS for anything anyway.
One question on that - I know you don't lose any data flashing a RadioROM, but one thread mentioned having to hard reset after the flash to get the new RadioROM functionality. Is this true? (Hoping not)

Radio rom is seperate. Like bios, you dont format HDD after upgrade bios. It's safe to upgrade without hard reset. However it doesnt hurt to install latest ROM also (which requires hard reset) Also what kinda 3rd party software you installed on there? commonly when prophet is in data mode, sometime voice doesnt come in, might be something doing that without you knowing.
Yes, that is true.
Radio ROM is not involve with OS ROM, you can flash your radio ROM to any version without effecting to the OS ROM and no need to hard reset.
Hard reset is only for upgrade and downgrade the OS ROM.
I have flashed to any radio ROM without Hard Reset.
Each Radio ROM has different configuration, so it can effected your battery drain because the receiving signal can be different at any radio rom.
we assume the latest radio rom is better than the earlier version but the best things, you can try all the available Radio ROM which is fit to your need.
Cheers,
I have the same problem
I have the same problem - my Imate Jamin (Prophet G3) started to miss calls from time to time after I upgraded to WM6. Tried multiple RadioROMs and multiple ROMs - no effect whatsoever

2.19.21 is the solution for me.

Sorry for so long to reply, but I wanted to make sure...
Since downgrading my RadioROM to 2.19.21, I have not had the missed call problem. The last time around on WM6 I tried everything from 2.20.21 on up to the latest without any improvement.
If you haven't tried 2.19.21, try it.
As a side note, I feel the Prophet Touch X ROM works great now, and I'm experiencing no bugs. However, the battery drain is more than the WM5 WWE.
YMMV

Recieving [Error 224]

Hello all,
I Eb'd an HTC wizard (cingular 8125) running Wizard Love/NBD WM 6.
On the load screen I get:
AKU 2.3;
IPL and SPL:2.25.0001;
radio:2.25.11;
rom: 6.0.0.0.
My carrier is Tmobile.
Question 1: If my phone has this newer ROM and it takes calls on the Tmobile network it has been CID unlocked and SIM unlocked...right?
I wanna update my rom and think that I am competent enough to do so but there is alot to learn and this is not my full time gig...right.
Question 2: So, if I am correct in Q1 I should be able to flash roms right?
However when I attempt to do so the RUU gives me [error 224]. Active sync and or WMDC says its connected. (I installed the AS drivers in WMDC)
Question 3: Where do I go from here?
Question 4: The wi-fi is currently not working will a new rom potentially clear this up?
Thanks in advance for the time and advice..
grazie
hmmmm,
Well, did you updated to NBD wm6 yourself ? and how did you updated ? which method you adopted ? SoftSPL or HardSPL ?
You say its SIM unlocked as it takes calls on the Tmobile network .Did you SIM unlocked with lokiwiz03a ?
yes ! a G4 can be SIM unlocked but it can not be CID unlocked, however,it can be upgraded to wm6 rom,but with method either 'SoftSPL' or 'HardSPL'.With your present ipl/spl 2.25.0001 and you say its NBD wm6 running, then it must have been upgraded through 'SoftSPL' method,as it uses patched ipl/spl and Cid unlocks the phone temporarily, but it never permanently CID unlocks the phone. But with 'HardSPL' ,it changes the ipl/spl to a patched ipl 2.21.0001 and spl 2.21 olip.So everytime you want to upgrade, you'll have to upgrade using 'SoftSPL' method.
could you elaborate a little more about this.
Cheers!
Hey thanks for the correspondence zabardast_1, I have been getting frustrated and I have many times contemplated going for the brick or bust approach here.
So, I have done none of the updating on this rig. I rec'd it and I wanted it primarily for wifi however I can't get the wifi card/ (sdiowlan I believe) to even recognize an AP (... I posted in the networking forum but no response.) Thus my own reasoning leads me to believe I should start from scratch with a new rom unless you know of something else.
So, I am not the most savvy and thought that all of the info I had led to SIM and CID unlocked. I just read otherwise last night and in your reply. The info I have provided is accurate the IPL, SPL, radio, although I don't know which NBD release it is; just says 6.0.0.0 and release date: 2/2/07.
I am trying to get the new rom on the my device however and I would've probably already bricked it if I could get an RUU to communicate with my wiz. I always get [Error 224] when I run it and my phone is connected through active sync. I am running vista but have installed the AS drivers for WMDC. I also tried it at work the other day with XP same situ. I then tried flashing from the bootloader screen with an NBD, Wizard Love ( w/ Italian installer?), and T-mob (226102_22610105_022511). The only one that says it will update is the Tmob ROM, however I got cold feet at the update button and canceled.
Other funny stuff I have observed that may or may not be related to the problems I am having are:
Can't install cab files ie (enable rapi or Cert SPCS) and Wiz Sys Tools couldn't read my CID block and hard_SPL G4 gives me REXX error ( SPL_Version has no value).
So, any wizdom you or anybody can drop is much appreciated and needed at this point.
Whew...
Listen carefully. G4 Wizard cannot be CID-unlocked without paying money. (And yes, you are using a G4).
What you need now is to Flash your original stock carrier ROM (Or wizard love) to get your OS back. Then either use SoftSPL or install HardSPL and flash WM6 ROM.
Thanks Starkwong,
I will try installing wizard love tomorrow at work and if that don't work I will attempt a Cing ROM (will all of these work or do I need to mind my G3's and G4's for these???)
Grazie
So, It worked using Wizard Love at work and out of the bootloader window. Now I need to:
1.) Get wifi working.
2.) Get a newer ROM
I put a post up in the networking thread, I am a tool so far as these devices are concerned so be easy on me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=372811
So do I get the wifi issue resolved before I reflash???
Thx again
I don't know what you mean by "wifi not working".
Maybe it is the wifi AP doesn't allow 11Mbps (802.11b) connections?
However, going to any of the WM6 ROMs should already set the registry to allow Wizard connects to G-Only APs. Just use HardSPL/SoftSPL and flash a WM6 and you will see.
OK so "wifi not working" may indeed be a general statement...
What I mean to say is that I am not able to connect to any wireless networks for internet not home (Linksys WRT 54G v5 with ddwrt firmware) or school (university wide) or my city's wifi network. It won't even detect them at least none that Ive seen since I've rec'd this phone. So, that is what I meant by the ambiguous statement.
So, being as your last post was a success I will try as you say and post the results tomorrow. Thanks again starkwong!!!
1 quick thing however, to be sure, I can now try the hard spl or soft spl method of tricking my phone to run an upgrade to WM6?
Still not able to get wifi APs????
OK although I have been successful at reinstalling the Mfg ROM and then Hard SPL'ing my wizard thanks to ya'll I still am unable to connect to a wireless network (see one even). I have the Olip on my SPL and I installed a TNT version of WM6 and I am still at work (drunk but still here). Anyway I can't see my wireless AP and I am beginning to think its a hardware issue if thats possible, i dunno the dynamics of this system maybe thats why it was for sale. In any event as usual I am willing to try what ever you guys throw at me as you're my only hope obi wan. Alright Im gonna go home for the night and try getting on to my home network.
Thanks again for all the help guys.
Is your device a original one from phone operator? I suspect your device is a China Dopod 838 with replaced casing, because the China version has the wifi hardware removed, so wifi can't be started even if an English ROM is used.
Looks to be authentic 8125
Starkwong, the Cingular logo and the 8125 model # are on the phone case where they have been when I've seen them before in pics. Therfore, I dunno I guess it looks like every other 8125 I've seen. Can I check the SN, IME or anything to be sure?
Thanks Again!!!
Starkwong,
I am getting all the options for wifi on my phone the LHS LED flashes green when I enable it and alternates blue green when BT is enabled. So, could it still be that its a dupod? I dunno but I am going home for the night... Thanks for your help. I will try connecting to my home network when I get there.

Radio problems with hard-spl installed

Ive flashed a custom rom (HTC_HERMES_S64_WM_6.1_TouchFlo2D_UC_ WWE v4) on my hermes (herm200), right after flashing i saw the No GSM error. So i reset and removed my battery for a few seconds. Fixed the problem for 2 days, recieving sms & calls just fine. After 2 days it returned.
How can i restore this problem?
Ive tried the following:
- soft reset + remove battery 30mins (still no gsm, but os works)
- hard reset + remove battery 30mins (still no gsm, but os works)
- reflash the custom rom (still no gsm, but os works)
- flash a different custom rom (still no gsm, but os works)
- flash a 1.51 radio only (stuck at 0%)
- flash a 1.56 radio only (stuck at 0%)
- flash originial WM6 rom (stuck at 12%)
- flash original WM5 rom (doesnt start communication error)
- mtty.exe method from the wiki "no gsm" hints
- SSPL-HERM.exe method
Anything i might have overseen looking for a fix? Kinda thought flashing with hard spl was fairly safe but looks like i was wrong ;-(
I don't believe Hard SPL was the problem. The Hermes seem to have a problem with the radio after a while. It could be a chip on the MB is overheating, a problem with the radio antenna or anything.
Flashing Hard SPL is a must if you want to flash new roms and saying that Hard SPL is the culprit may make noobs not do it causing a lot of problems.
The fact your GSM is missing after flashing it may just be a coincidence.
So saying, if you've tried to re-install the shipped stock rom and a standalone radio rom then it seems your radio rom memory may be corrupted. This means your phone won't work but you can still use as a PDA.
Sorry...
Could flashing the original SPL result in flashing the shipped rom succesfully?
Thus removing hard spl and returning it in factory state?
Tried making a usb log but the ansi text file is a whopping 104 mb
I think the problem lies here, after the Restore ExtRom Complete it says:
"Port read timeout!!!"
"AUX_process FAIL, reason 2, dwRead=0, dwWritten=41.."
"+Port1 did not get connect"
No, once the meory is corrupted on the radio rom it is pretty much unrecoverable. At leas, no ones succeeded yet.
