Sprint Touch Pro - FLAC Decoder for Music? - Touch Pro CDMA

I'm wondering if anyone has gotten Windows Media Player on WM 6.1 to play FLAC. Will it do WMA Lossless?

I am curious if WMA lossless works on the touch pro 2 also.

Windows Media Player on the Touch Pro will play them just fine, with album art as well! I can't see Microsoft removing WMA lossless support from WinMo, so it should work on the TP2, especially since the TP2 ships with WinMo 6.1 Pro.

I personally hate using my HTC TP for music but it gets the job done when I'm not carrying my iPod Touch:
Copy music to SDMicro card -fine
Launch media player - ok, I have a shortcut for that so it's one tap after unlocking.
Manually trigger library update which is not fast (only for new music)
Make sure that it's set to use the storage card. (Yup, more than one Library)
Navigate through the lists - Not bad but damn it's ugly and text only.
Select what you want - No no no! No multi select for you! Queue it up one by one! And that requires highlighting the track, tap the Menu list then tap Queue.
Press play (That's right, you can't double tap or hold for a context menu, etc)
No real way to quickly get back to the Media Player if you wander out of the player to do something else.
</mini_rant>
You can do a simple test by taking a music file and converting it to WMA lossless then copy the file to your phone and play it back.
I think there is a tiny buffering issue because I notice that lossless tracks have a tendancy to skip once in a while. It's not constant but it is annoying sometimes for me when I have it connected to my car stereo and I'm rockin out. All of a sudden, there's that split second pause that takes me out of my groove. It has happened on different tracks so I can't say it's the files themselves.

Nice! I just put a WMAL file on my phone and it plays natively. Awesome. Do you have any suggestions on how to batch convert wave files to WMAL? Windows Media Encoder is a pain.... Perhaps I dont know how to use it properly.

glad i did a search, was going to ask about this for my HTC fuze. now i just have to buy those darn usb to audio hack thingy.

Orb on the Titan

Ok, this thread is all about using Orb (or possibly other streaming media applications) on your Titan.
I currently use Orb 2.0 to stream all of my media (pictures, music, movies, videos, documents, etc) to my Titan. It works pretty well, but Windows Media player is the default player, and it's somewhat choppy and a resource hog. Some people have reported good results using TCPMP for playing media with Orb. I also use Pocket MVP for movies from my storage card, so I was wondering if that may be a good alternative as well.
My question is...what Codec is used by default to stream media?
What file associations do I need to change in TCPMP (or any other media player)?
What other codecs work, and how well (flash, etc.)
So far I have been unable to get Live TV to work through Orb, but I believe that may be a problem on the desktop app side.
With EVDO and RevA speeds getting better all the time, this is quickly going from a frustrating experiment (try watching a 2 hour movie with it stopping every 3 minutes to cache data)...to a very good replacement for having to store huge amounts of media using precious memory on your device.
I only have experience using TCPMP so I can't comment on Pocket MVP, but it works great and my be able to replace Pocket MVP for your sd card movies.
I use TCPMP v0.72 RC1 (attached below).
I check all the file type associations in TCPMP except picture files.
I set the "Manual A/V offset +/-" to -400 msec to fix A/V sync.
I change the video driver to "GDI".
Orb streams .asf files by default but if you're using WM6 or WM6.1 you'll need to copy the WM5 WMV9 codecs (also attached) to your pda's \Windows directory for Orb's .asf's to play. Be sure to restart TCPMP after this.
When TCPMP is used with the latest FlashVideoBundle (also attached) it also allows the playing of YouTube (and other) videos from pie. Just run the .cab from \My Documents, soft reset, and click a YouTube vid.
Not sure what your Orb live TV issue is, but remember only one application can have control of a capture card at a time.
Cool, thanks. I think that I figured out my TV issue. I set it up to use the ATI MPEG encoder thats built into my All-In-Wonder Video card, and it works. I'll just have to see how that works with Divix and MPEG movies, but I would think that it should be better since its a dedicated hardware encoder vs software.
I just began using Orb yesterday and it is great!!! My car stereo has built in bluetooth, so as long as Im in an EVDO area, I have access to my entire mp3 collection on the road now.
So, how well does the bluetooth work for you for stereo? With all of the bluetooth issues, I had put off buying a pair of stereo headphones....but there have definately been some improvements. At least now I can use Voice Command with some reliability
Well this looks very interesting as a solution. Does anyone have PIE remembering the password for ORB? I can not get my Titan PIE to remember the password no matter what I do, so I was thinking I need to switch to a different browser.
These aren't free, but you can try them and see if you like them:
(These solutions are for if you don't like using PIE to access ORB)
PocketStream Server:
This program comes with a GUI (although a bit choppy) for the phone, so all you need to do is connect to your computer with the app and it lists all your music/video files. It is streamed with TCPMP.
LobsterTunes:
This is what I use. Currently it only supports streaming music. It is a uPnP (Universal Plug&Play) app that can connect to any media server that supports uPnP (Orb, WMP11, TVersity). It auto sets up for you so you don't need to input anything. Just load it up and it will auto search for your computer networked sharing folder. The GUI is a lot faster than PocketStream, but it uses WMP as a backend to stream music (not changable).
Will Lobstertunes support the Internet Radio Stations under my ORB account, and thus stream them? I am all for trying something else that will work more efficiently with ORB (or any other pnp server software - as long as it works with all modalities of the pnp software).
wow... glad I came across this thread... lobster sounds EXACTLY what I was looking for... streaming media in car just isn't viable... the funny thing is, evdo is MUCH faster than streaming bandwidth but you never take advantage of that extra bandwidth when you're streaming...
this looks awesome.. it downloads your songs in the background so no skipping between towers!
Lobstertunes does support radio stations, but I'm not sure if it *sees* the ORB radio stations. Best thing to do would be to create a playlist with the radio station on it. I haven't tried it before because I use TCPMP for radio.

That's one thing I like about it. It always downloads half your available storage memory, so when it reaches that threshold, it will just overwrite previous files so you don't have to worry about wasting space.
I also came across this software:
http://www.pocket-tunes.com/
and it looks pretty slick lol, but I'm not sure if it'll work on the Titan. Maybe I'll give it a try sometime tonight. I'm looking for something to replace LobsterTunes because although it works, it's still a little slow in my opinion.
I've been using ORB since the mogul came out and previously on my Treo 700wx.
I do have to admit my 4 year old has used it more than I have...the quality while traveling on the interstate is quite impressive.
I do have to try the tcpmp, maybe it will put it over the top.
My only failure with ORB 2.0 and the old version is neither will record for me, but I'm sure it's my fault.
orb is good... I like it.. I just wish there was a software front-end for it for the ppc..
I was really excited to get lobstertunes a try but it simply does not work on my device... not quite sure why but it crashes during the login process.

I found that error too, one way to fix it is to open up lobsterconfig.txt from within the install directory on your PPC and edit the line from /localtest=false to /localtest=true
Don't have the config file on your phone? There should be one in x:\program files\ElectricPocket\Lobster just edit the line and transfer the file to your PPC.

Sprint Touch Pro Music app problems

I have a TP with the original ROM, and about 1.2 GB of music on an 8GB microSD. The music plays fine in Windows Media Player (just in case anyone was going to suggest that the card was the problem, and I installed the SD cab to speed up the card). When I try and play music in the Sprint Music tab, sometimes it won't play, and other times it will play the first 5-10 seconds of the song and then just stop.
I actually prefer the Sprint Music player over WM Player, I find it a cleaner application, and if anyone knows how I can solve this problem, I would appreciate it.
I know there are people out there that have 16GB cards filled with music, and they don't have this problem, so what's going on with my TP? I also can't find any answers in any other post here, or in a Google search.
Thanks in advance.
Have you thought about using Slide to Play? http://s2u2.ac-s2.com/
So here's the fix for the HTC Music player problem. First off Have you tried to add Album art to your MP3's? Personally I used Media monkey and added album art to all my mp3 files. This totally screwed up the HTC music player. After removing the album art from these files I was able to get the music player working again.
Second, there seems to be an issue for me with how the Folder is labeled in the storage card. If you call it "media" Sprint player see's the files but WMP does not. If you call it "Music" WMP sees the files but Sprint player does not.
Not sure whats the problem but it seems you have to choose which player to use.
So make sure the files are plain MP3 files in a folder named "Media" in order for your sprint player to work. If you want album art check out the Music folder in your Device and replicate the file format (FolderMP3name with MP3 file and "Folder" with containing album art. Oddly enough I think this is how the WMP tags MP3 files.
Or I'm an idiot and don't know what i'm doin

Will something be done about Android multimedia capabilites?

lack of decent mp3 player on android for several years now is getting really absurd
there is not one mp3 player that combines all the basic features of other multimedia devices
features like:
1) folder play + choosing which folders to scan (not the player deciding my whole SD card is one huge mp3 library thus listing video game and gps navigation music files..)
2) equalizer (+presets)
3) visualization (album art is fine, but kind of static..)
4) volume control
5) music streaming
1) organising my mp3 library of 4+gb by using ID3 tags is nearly impossible since it would be too time consuming
i know mortplayer allows for folder playing, but its sound quality is abysmal - i have 12mb 320kbps mp3 that sound like utter s*it when played in this player, but sound fine in music mod
i know of one other mp3 player that allows for folder play and will check it out, but by the looks of it, its nothing special
2) probably the most needed function of all, i mean how hard can it be? its been 2 years now and until now there has been only 1 player with this function - its in beta, and doesnt save your presets, so once you reboot you have to change it all over again...
you could have the best headsets in the world, but it wouldnt mean crap without proper equalizer to tune them with
3) a gimmick, but a nice one, and a standard for, what, 10 years now?
4) HOW HARD CAN IT BE? instead of using hardware buttons, to have software sliders for fine tuning the volume
5) internet/LAN support
these are all basic functions
i have top of the notch android device (HTC desire) but it gets overshadowed by my puny 50€ (at the time) 4 year old sony mp3 player which supports everything on that list except for streams
i wish winamp would make android port..
concerning video support
if there were not for 3rd party developed rockplayer all of the platform would be quite useless on the multimedia side of things..
i love android, i love my cellphone
but i find it odd that even with its open nature, there are still basic functions missing even after all the years and numerous devices on the market
any notions on googles part that things might change soon?
I agree with your frustration. Coming from win mobile and pocketplayer I was very disappointed. Am currently using a cyanogen rom and it does have a dsp/equalizer but have yet seen a player with a comprehensive feature list. It was also nice to make your own skins and have a larger font size to see outdoors.
Have you searched xda, some pretty good music apps have been spawn from here, well members...
The whole sd scan is annoying, but I believe if you drop a ".nomedia" file in folders you don't want scanned they should be skipped, you might want to look into that as I'm not 100% on it...
But yeah, out of the literally dozens of music/media apps they all have there flaws I guess.

Have a try with this music player. It's still in beta but it's my favorite music player out all the ones I've tried and has quite a bit of what you're asking for.
Power amp is still the best on the market.

[Q] Suggest a music player !

First, I'm not new to the subject. Over the years I've used GSPlayer, MortPlayer, Nitrogen, WMP and various flavors of TCPMP. However, two things happened recently:
- I've switched from Dell Axim X51v to Touch Pro 2 - so finger friendliness is a must.
- I started using WMP media sync on the desktop.
What it means... the WMP puts every album in its own folder. So say I have a dozen MP3s of same artist, from ten different albums. They will be arranged in ten different folders. And synced that way. In the past, I would manually rearrange the songs. But this is tedious, and really unneeded on PC - WMP makes it very easy to quickly play songs by an artist without worrying about folders. When I had a burned HD and had to restore my entire music collection, I just left them the way they are. When using a player with library support on the phone, it's easy to play all songs by an artist.
Well, here's the issues I had with players:
WMP - well, it does have an equalizer as I just found (silly me...) not that easy to get to but it will do.
Mort Player - great functionality, but relatively slow to start; most other players start up almost instantly. Since I use player mainly in the car, I don't want to wait for it to get up while I am driving.
GSPlayer - no big button finger friendly skin that I know of, otherwise great.
Nitrogen - love it, but no library support. And no recursive directory selection mode, so the songs have to be added individually. Would be the player of choice otherwise.
TCPMP - I did find a couple of builds that support skins with large buttons. The one that I ended up with is just a tad slower to start than Nitro, still fast. No library support but the recursive directory selection mode basically replaces "All songs" feature. However:
- there's no way that I know of to make recursive directory selection a default mode - does anyone know if there's a way to do it ?
- Instead of showing album art JPGs it plays them. I.e. if I hit the skip button it treats art as a file to be played. Is there a way/setting to fix it ?
- Also, which build would you suggest for TP2 with stock Sprint 6.5 ROM ? This is probably what I will end up with for now.
Any help / suggestions appreciated.
hi. have you tried AvianPlay and S2P ?
Hi,
I have used “AvianPlay” on my windows mobile. I am satisfied with it, you should also try AvianPlay.
If you have any problems regarding this player, do let me know.
Thanks. Installed it at lunch, still updating library. Is it normal for Avian to take relatively long time to load, or does it do it only when updating lib ?

That's the iMulator a forum member made. It's a little buggy but I don't think it was intended for my phone. I love the app though, give it a shot I guess.
I still use PocketMusic
I prefer Pocket Player by Conduits. It comes with a great library. In fact it's the only player for Windows Mobile known to me with a real library like desktop players (Winamp...) offer it.

Music on Android

I'm a bit of an audiophile and for me the music side of things really is lacking in Android. Its absolutely fine for example if you come home in the evening and want to listen to a few albums, its 110% no problems at all.
I listen to music on my phone 8-9 hours a day at work and its a let down.
Getting songs on it for a start is a nightmare, sure you can plunk all in a music folder again fine for listening to an odd album or whatever but there is no sort of organisation, Say I want a playlist with song 2 from album E followed by song 1 from album C and so on this is a nightmare to create on the phone, this is where iTunes comes into its element. Sure we have things like Doubletwist, on paper it should be fantastic, but the reality is it duplicates songs and playlist and isn't even smart enough to recognize duplicates in your library, there is also things like Winamp and its wireless syncing, it takes forever and again duplicates.
Then we have the problem with MP4 files, My Galaxy S2 can recognize many files but has issues with MP4 files, you get song name but artist info etc all unknown, it can't read the tags.
Then general sound levels, I've tried 3 android phones over the years and all 3 are to low, they are about 70% that of an iPhone and this is fine for general listening but if your fave song comes on you like a bit of a boost and well you can't, I also work in quite a noisy environment and machinery can he heard over the top of the phone on full, there are apps like Volume+ which claim can boost the volume and well they can but it distorts so all rather pointless.
Then there is finding a player, I've notice volume differs between them all, and some can't read the playlists you've created so in the end i;ve had to stick to stock player, although crap its the best of a bad bunch.
A feature I also liked on iTunes was Genius, I could pick a song say a rock song, hit a button and it would create a playlist similar, even if this was possible on android it wouldn't work anyway as all the MP4 tags are fooked.
So as I say I take music seriously and I suspect 90% of people won't care about these issues but I do and am hoping for some good advise as don't want to go back to iPhone but at the moments its looking like the only solution as Android is so frustrating to use for music.
First off, look at Voodoo sound control from the android market. It's often times included in custom ROMs. It will allow you to pump the volume up far beyond the stock ROM's capabilities. There's quite a few other tweaks it offers that I'm sure you'll find. The only catch with Voodoo is that it's only compatible with certain Kernels.
As for media playback, "Music" by Google is pretty powerful. It's not the same program that many phones run stock. It has support for FLAC playback, Song info lookup, even lyric support.
I recommend you take a look at PowerAmp. I am a music nut like you and it does everything and more! There is a full featured trial version and to buy it is only a few bucks. Check it out.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
I have to use music by G but I wish it has some more useful features like 'query' or 'play after this song' such.
There will probably never be a mobile player that will do Replay Gain on the fly so i suggest your grab yourself a copy of mp3gain for your PC. Plug your phone in via USB, drag and drop your music from phone to program interface, set level to 92db, Scan Tracks and then Apply Gain.
92db may be higher than some of your tracks already are and may be lower than others. Find a level that gives you the audio boost you need. As all tracks are set to the same level you won't have to adjust volume between tracks during playback.
There are plenty of players with Playlist support so that's covered. Try one of the ones mentioned above.
I think i've found the answer by accident, I was using Media Monkey I noticed it has a feature to analyze the volume of tracks, so I got them all analyzed and noticed most were in or around -10db, I hit level which brought them up to 0 to +5db and I have noticed a good improvement, It also sorted out all my tagging and artwork issues and even synced my playlists perfectly to my phone.
