WM2003 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Does anyone know if it is possible to cook WM2003 for PPC into a Hermes rom?
Before you go telling me what an idiot I am, or saying why would anyone want to, it's just a simple question.
The concept is this, WM2003 uses much less program memory to run the OS.
I know that the availability of programs for 2003 is more limited than WM6 or WM5, but the main programs that I use are available in all 3 OS versions.
Has HTC made a WM2003 phone in the past and could it be ported to the Hermes?
Thanks
(edit) it looks like at least the Himalaya was 2003 - is it possible to port this rom?

The memory management of WM2003 and WM5/6 is totall different!
WM2003(se) doesn't have persistent memory, WM5/6 have. With WM2003(SE)
everything is stored in RAM,

with WM5/6 data is stored in ROM
see the difference?
You can study the article here

ok
well that kind of explains things but it still leaves some questions, like how the HTC Wallaby, it can run wm2003 or wm5 or 6, it has 2 chips a 128m and a 64m.
Another question that arises is can the OS wm2003 be loaded to just the rom on the Hermes.
I understand that this right now is simply a lesson in "could it be done," and I am not a programmer or a software developer, and I don't build pda's so I don't really understand how they are designed to work, but if it could be done, and I would have to think that it is possible for someone who know what they are doing, it could provide a sleek device with plenty of speed and program memory.
Maybe it's a pipe dream, but I think it is at least worth exploring.

It is. i don't think developers wanna go back to build a 2003SE ROM for a WM5/6 device. The mentioned devices like the Blue Angel have the hardware to RUN other OS Ask the developers how it works.

ok
OK sounds logical, thanks for the input.

PPC 2002 - Service pack 3

Does anyone have any info about this update yet (service pack 3). Microsoft are saying that it will be supplied by the vendor. That means we should get it sometime in 2004 right?
updates?
How do we know if we are up to date?
do all XDA devices run on service pack 2 already, I got mine last september.
Also backing Martin1978 up, details please people!!

I think all XDA's are at least SP2. You will know SP3 when it arrives as it has Media Player 8.5 (looks much nicer). I would imagine it will appear in a ROM update at some point, though I'm sure it won't be the next one.
So r you saying that o2 OWES us a rom update and sp3  dudes!!!
I have WMP 8.5 on my XDA already, ROM v. 3.15.15
The update is few month old, I think newer ROM version have parts of SP3 already implemented...
I wouldn't go so far as to say they owe us. I would redeem them slightly though if we do get it.
It's good to hear WMP 8.5 is in 3.15. Perhaps they have begun to implement SP3 already.
Easy way to tell
If your default Today screen has the XP-esque "Bliss" theme (Blue sky and green field) then it's SP3. If you have the all blue background Microsoft Mobile then you've got SP2.
btw my previous ROM version 3.14.13 had WMP 8.5 as well and it was from 9/2002
Well, what do you know. Mine says it is 8.5 too, however, it doesn't have this skin:

Go to the compaq site & download SP3 for Ipaq its the same piece of kit for xda & clones.
Load upgrade to MM Card & run from there, whole process takes about 15 mins.
I ran this several weeks ago and all is well.
CARA.
Anyone else done this?
T-Mobile upgrade for SP3
All:
I got my upgrade directly from the T-Mobile site in the US.
I don't see any specific indication of SP3 other than the Media
Player version of 8.5.
Just providing another possible source of an upgrade ...

Thank for notice. Already is it redress.

I have always used this cpl, but recently (after upgrading to W2003SE) once I install this app and reset, it HARD RESETS! I have had this happen twice, (but only realized the possible relation later), and now I'm gun-shy to install it again.
Is anyone running this with the 2.02.t1, 2.06.00 ROMs and are NOT have problems.
I would like to turn off looking for GPRS when radio re-starts, (and just to establish a GPRS signal when you need GPRS), (makes searching for a GSM signal MUCH faster)
Alternately, does anyone know what the registry change is to cause the device to NOT look for a GPRS signal, (just a GSM signal) until needed?
Thanks
I have already used gprs tweak.
I didn't found that problem with hard reset even in 2.02t1 ,2.06 or 2.06 merge with 2.02t1.
Your problem may from other softwares which have conflicts with this program or may problem from ROM2.06
tumtum:
Thanks for replying. I installed the cpl again because of your article, and I'm happy to report its working well, (several resets and no Hard Resets). It must have been something else I was installing in the past as well, that was causing the Hard Reset.
Thanks again...
there is new version support SE ?!?!
No there isn't a new version, but it seems the older 2004.02.04 works with SE. I did NOT use the Media Player setting, but the GPRS seems to work fine. I'm using Radio 1.14.00 (I had radio 1.18.00 before), (in case that could have been a problem)...

excellent work as always animelover, thx for the german ROMs
hi, there!
did you modify this rom in any way? or did you just translate it?
i am curious because korand's roms always have this strange comm manager behaviour with wifi meaning that after each soft reset wifi only starts after two taps on the button in the comm manager, whereas wifi starts right away when enabled through batterystatus. i also tried different comm manager versions without an effect.
any comments? any ideas?
cheers.
That can be changed by putting a shortcut to "WiFiInit" in the start up folder.
nice! thanks!
tried it and seems to work. funnily enough, i do not need this shortcut in my official wm5 for wifi to work right away...
remains one question unsolved though: how to set the sound scheme to the original wm 6/6.1 as it is available in cloudyfa's and pdaviet's roms? i would use them if they were not that much overloaded with apps i do not like or need, espacially all the htc crap... apart from those minor flaws mentioned above, i really like korand's slim and sleek roms.
but when i read earlier that cloudyfa is coming up with a new one including wpa2, i might give THAT one a shot...
cheerio!
thanks for this release. just installed and seems to work very good.
Do this ROM have problem to stop playing music in WMP, in stand by mode?
I haven't test it. Maybe some report.
If yes. Use this cab to fixed it.
WMP and Audio Manager fixed.

Trying to unlock/cid/sim/ load new 6.1 OS into a G4 Orange SPV M3000

Now I been reading all of the stickies and after much confusion and some more readin i found myself into the correct Vista RUU loader, now for the ROM I found through orange one that has an extension of .nb0 and one on this forums ftp of .nbh which is the one I should be using once I do the soft spl and cid unlock?
I also kept getting a error connection saying my update utility is out of date, then with the Vista one(after installing all drivers etc) I get a connection error but only with those tool I am able to connect with the vista mobile device center with no problems before and after installing the 32bit drivers, should I be trying to load the files in the main phone menu or in boatloader? Cause I've tried both ways and receive the 2 previous mentioned errors.
I just don't know what I am doing right with those, if helps you guys help it is a Orange M3000 with I believe german ROM...sorry If I couldn't find the answer I have been reading for a few hrs before I decided I need to post for proper direction on doing this....

ahh, well, let me commend you brother for actually reading and searching before posting a problem! Much appreciated! But lemme ask you this...what is your phones info? IE-IPL/SPL, is it a G3 or G4? Once you can provide us that information, then would should be able to better assist you!
Sorry forgot that info for the SPL, I know its a G4 since the examples I read talked about the 3 leading 0's, but specifically it is
IPL/SPL: 2.16.0001
GSM: 01.04.10
OS: 2.16.1.1
Mkay, what I would recommend is going ahead and Hard-SPLing your phone(look for the Hard-SPL thread in this subforum, and follow the instructions EXACTLY!), and then upgradeing your GSM radio ROM to 1.69.X or something similiar, seeing as the one that you have is REALLY old. Upgraded radio ROMs offer better connectivity then older ones do. After you do both of those things, you can then safely upgrade to either WinMo 6 or 6.1...hope that helps!
Tried the HardSPL and got this:
Do I need to have a ROM(nb.nbh) loaded in the same folder as the Hard-SPL.exe I used?
No ! you don't have to have a Rom in the HardSPL folder, just Activesync with pc and run the HardSPL,it'll start to flash, don't worry if the screen goes white,it part of the procedure, but I assume you are trying it on WinVista.HardSPL doesn't work on Vista, better try on a pc with WinXP.

You may wish to try my WM6.5 ROM (link in my signature). This is very substantially stripped down and almost all non-essential software removed. It does have a few items like Google Maps included but that can be uninstalled if desired.
Many thanks..........

Probably the two 'cleanest' WM6.5 ROMs are Aragon85's and mine which you have had sight of.
... if you want something even more stripped down, then I'd suggest you simply dump one of these and then remove whatever elements you don't wish to retain.
There is not a great deal of superfluous code in either though, so I'm a bit puzzled exactly what is bothering you ?
