Can't run .exe - Touch Pro CDMA

I come up with an error when I try to run .exe. I can only run cab files. Is this correct?

.cab files install software, .exe files run those pieces of software once installed.
What is the error message? Try reinstalling it (whatever IT is).

You can normally choose how you install software on your WinMo device. Developers / software companies offer an EXE but you run that from Windows itself and not your WinMo device. That EXE will push the CAB file to your device, normally over ActiveSync, and then the app gets installed on your device automatically from the CAB file.
Alternatively you can often download a CAB-only version of the application. You copy this to your device and run it from Explorer or something similar directly on your device and not from Windows. The app is installed just the same, but does not leave a portion on your Windows computer.
If you've downloaded an EXE from a developer that was intended to be run / installed from Windows, it will not run on your WinMo device.

Windows add/remove and Start - sigh

Am I the only one that is annoyed that the programs I install on my Advantage feel the need to also clutter up my Start menu programs folder on my windows machine as well?
I installed the program on my device, I don't want any footprint of it on my desktop. Yet I find entries in my desktop start menu as well as the add/remove programs.
Any way to avoid this or just live with the fact I have to make sure to clean this out right after I install something new on my Advantage?

I try to use CAB files as long they are available. The problem is not all programs have that. Examples of this include microsoft voice commander. I wonder if there is an easy way to extract the cab out of all window install program. Anyone knows?

I have found success with some in checking the Temp directory of the PC when starting the install - the installation often extracts the cab to a new sub-dir there. An alternative is to try to install when the PPC is not connected - often a cab file is dumped to a sub-dir of C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync

This is great tips. I'll surely take a look at C:\program files\microsoft ActivSycn from now on. Is that only for XP? What about VISTA?

I found it in Vista. Most of the time, it is located at windows\windowsmobile\ directory.
You will find a directory name created by the PC installer. Go inside that, you will find the cab file.
In some cases, it does not go there. For example, microsoft voice command goes to Program files\Microsoft Voice Command\windows mobile pocket pc\us1.60 for M2M\
So, it is there alright, just got to find it.
Once found, copy it to your pocket pc manually. Next time you need to hard reset, you can do without PC all together. Also, now you can uninstall from the PC and keep your pc clean.

Info before the win6.5 update...

Hello,
Want to update my Rose with the new 6.5beta but have some questions:
First I need to download the HardSPL and run it as described; and then how do I install the Wm6.5 update? Copy the exe file onto my phone and then run it using my phone?! Or is there another way?
What about documents/mails/messages etc that's not onto the sd card; will it all be deleted when performing the update?
Thanks for helping.
Everything will be deleted from your phone. For messages and contacts (if your not using ActiveSync with Outlook) I recommend Microsoft MyPhone.
1) Download HardSPL and run it like it's described
2) Download the WM 6.5 ROM unpack it on your PC (it's a self extracting 7z file).
3) Connect your phone to your PC
4) Run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe on your PC and wait until it's done
5) Don't worry if the first boot takes a while...

How to Update Successfully with CabSender

Well I have been trying to have WP7 on my HD2 since a month, and although I have been successfull in burning this ROM and update it until 7403, I was not able to move further.
Whatever I tried it resulted in one or the other error. Both Zune and WPUdateCabsender failed.
At last I was able to successfully run the WPUCS as below.
Normally all cab files are zipped/rarred available at xb0xMods site. These files once zipped add some attribute once zipped.
So, here are the steps to successfully use update ca sender.
1. Create folder WP7 in C: drive and copy the files in update cab sender folder here.
2. Unzip/Unrar the cab files to WP7 folder
3. Open Command Prompt (in Admin Privilege).
4. Go to C:\WP7
5. Type attrib -A -S -H -R *.*
6. Stop any Virtual Device drivers like MagicISO, or Virtual PC.
7. Run WPUCS successfully.
This helped me to upgrade from 7392 directly to 7720 in one shot.
Also note that even if the command prompt says error and stops after restarting the device, the device will get into connectorscreen mode.
During this the Device actually updates the device, so do not try to remove battery or reset, wait for an hour until the process is completed.
Note: The only issue is during updating the device gets overheated, and sometimes it gets stuck in Magldr screen, only then restart/reset the device.

Creating a batch file for windows 6.5 in (Handheld Device)

Hello Everyone,
I am assigned into a new project which is based on Oracle Mobile Supply Chain Architecture(MSCA), our client is using Motrolla MC9091 and the OS is (Windows 6.5).
I need to Start a .exe file automatically when the device gets started, my friends suggested me that it can be achieved using .bat file but in this forum i found that its not possible to create a batch file in windows mobile.
So , please tell me any idea. How to run .exe file automatically when the device gets started and can we write a .bat file in windows 6.5.
Thanks in Advance
put a shortcut to the .exe in the windows startup folder.
If have more complex commands you want run use mortscript to create a script (bit like batch) to complete required functions & add this script via a link to startup folder .
