I wanted to make a flashlight in flash for some time now... The idea to use the pocket as a light is very useful and sometimes even necessary, either not to wake up someone, see in some dark stairs, getting late to the movies, etc etc...
But since in reality its just a blank image on the screen, I never worried about it, all I needed was a lighter theme on the today to use it as a light for most cases.
Recently I "saw the light" with this great example, that has many more practical uses:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=456908
The software on the link above shows a application that uses the camera flash on WM machines, but most Pocket PC's don't have that hardware.
So I though of making something similar, but only for the screen, for all those that don't have a camera flash, but have Adobe flash! ^_
The idea of this software is not only a quick flashlight (that you can have on a hardware key or icon, so that you have an easy access), but also many other uses.
So I made a semi-hidden touchscreen menu that gives access to all these light applications:
- LAMP, a simple white screen.
- Strobe, to call for attention (or hypnotize someone _o).
- Fader, with fade-in/fade-out light, like a lighthouse.
- SOS, that spells s.o.s in morse code.
- Disco, random bright colorful lights, like a disco.
- PEN, in which you can draw temporary light forms.
- Starlight animation (heavy on CPU).
- LOVELYGHT, just a visual test, also good for the loved ones.
- LIGHTER , for fun on a concert, as you can see on the picture.
- Match, pretty much like lighter.
- Candle, pretty much like match, with a twist.
- Eye of mordor, for geeks like me.
- LightSaber with sounds. Press top, middle or bottom of the screen for diferent effects, or use your keypad.
- Android boot animation
- Knight rider fade.
- Evil eyes on the dark.
- Firefly, click for interaction.
- Bicycle light, click to brake.
- Customize, only for some models that dont light up on the opening, still with bugs.
- Exit, obviously to leave the application, you can also use the ENTER (in the middle of the keypad) at any moment.
To use:
As you enter the app, it places you pocket's screen on full bright mode and removes any fade-out and stand-by option. As you exit it restores your previous settings.
If you click on the screen while on the LAMP area, it changes between 8 colors.
If you click on the FADER screen, it changes between 5 colors.
If you click on the SOS screen, it allows you to create your own morse code, just click and hold your finger on the screen for it to remain white (still with bugs), if you don't click it for a while it goes back to the automatic SOS.
To use you just need FLASH 7, place the EXE anywhere on your pocket pc and create a shortcut to the start menu (you can use Resco Explorer for that).
For non-VGA/QVGA screens:
Unfortunatly the tool I use to make the EXE files only allows qvga and vga screen sizes... If you know another SWF>EXE tool that fixes this, let me know.
New version 4:
Interactive lighter (open/close on click), with sound.
SOS interactivity works now (just need to drag the finger across the screen to make it white).
Better exit (for flash lite 3, not tested).
New version 5:
Fixed a exit sound bug
Added a "show taskbar" on exit, for those ppl having problems exiting the app.
Added android boot animation
Added star light animation (heavy on CPU).
Added LightSaber with sounds. Press top, middle or bottom of the screen for diferent effects, or use your keypad.
Was going to add a christmas music to the star light area, but it sounded corny.
---//---
Final version 7 (v6 was mainly bugfixes):
- More stuff
- New customizable regkeys values (if you need them).
- Source code released (flash 8 FLA)
Compatibility: WM5/6 (it also works on WM2003, but I dont know if it places the screen on maximum brightness)
Tested in: HTC Touch Dual

I will try it when I get home. It looks very interesting.
Thanks.

lol. so cool

Thanks for sharing, but in my diamond doesn't work, I get an error related to a missed certificate.
EDIT: I made a mistake creating the shortcut, now works fine, very nice!

Simple flash app to turn on/off wireless comunications.
I dont have Infrared or WIFI, so if anyone could test and post feedback, I'd be really apreciated.
There are a bunch of these out there, but now with the latest WM6.5 beta roms, I really disliked the default "wireless manager":
... So I tried to do a better one with the total support of ViJay555, Fredezzz and Ronswens tools.
To use:
-------
- Install Flash 7 (Lite 3.1 doesnt work): http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer_pocketpc/downloads/player.html
- Unzip and install the latest version anywhere on the PPC.
- Click to turn on/off.
- Swipe your finger from the icon to the light (left to right) to auto-sync (BT and IR only).
- Swipe down or up a tab to open its system settings menu.
- Close after use with the X button, or press ENTER on your keypad, or press the new bottom key to make sure its closed and not minimized.
- If any connection isnt working properly, choose another method in the settings.
- Choose your favorite skin.
MINI-FAQ:
-----------------
- You really need flash 7, that doesnt destroy your Flash lite 3.1, they can co-exist in the same system.
- Non VGA/QVGA screens will work, but will have white stripes on the side, theres nothing I can do about that, sorry...
- If any connection isnt working properly, choose another method in the settings.
- If you see the keyboard icon hiding the settings, just open the keyboard and close it again.
What's new in v4:
-----------------
- More skins (yey)...
- Changed the skins area a little.
- Changed the WIFI icon a little.
- Added a settings area for device-related differences in the way some things are turned on/off:
]BT[ Method A: registry || Method B: Vijay555 app
]WIFI[ Method A: Vijay555 app ||Method B: Fredezzz app
]PHONE[ Method A: Vijay555 app || Method B: Ronswens app
Thank you to Ronswens for the new 3G/GPRS-off tool and Fredezzz for the WIFI tool.[/quote]
Changes in v3:
-----------------
- Changed the way BT works (just registry changes now, let me know if it works for you)
- Blinged up the icons a little
- Added 4 skins (auto-saved to the registry after choosing)
- Added bottom buttons: EXIT and SKIN MANAGER.
- Added a config icon when you are dragging the tab to the settings option.
Changes in v2:
-----------------
- Fixed the WIFI bug (I hope)...
- Added BEAM tab
- Added settings per tab, just swipe your finger up or down (starting from the tab you want to open the settings, of course).
- Changed the way some background applications are open
- Slimmer EXE
- CAB version
Changes in v1:
-----------------
- Changed the way things are turned on/off
- Fixed BT bugs
- Fixed phone on/off failure
- Added BT and IR Syncs, just swipe your finger from the icon to the light (left to right).
- Added keypad button ENTER to shut down app.
- Changed the icon a little (...) (...well, I did. :/)
To do:
------
- USB sync thinks its 3G connected... have to find the correct regkey to check this.
- Disabled tabs for non-existing hardwares
Look great!!!
Testing now....
very nice, I am testing right now will give u feedback in bout 10 mins.
tested it in all it worked ok. like u said the wifi didn't work. also I think it will be better if u added the skin into the main comm manager so we only have one instead of two.
tested ur 0.1 alpha just now on my Elf (Onyx 5.0 Beta)
umm BT doesnt seem to work as u mentioned.. Wi-Fi as well!! Data Connection working.. couldnt check IR as i havent got one on mine!!
btw fast and great looking app aswel as all of your rest.. hope you get the bugs sorted out!!

BT needs a little fine-tunning, will do that in the week-end.
The USB sync isnt a problem, it just reports that its online... but its not a real 3g/gprs connection, will have to dig thru the registry to see about that, but its not a very important bug.
Wifi I really cant test, but I'll check if I messed up the links for the ViJay tool or if it can be easily turned on/off thru the registry.
I dont know about BEAM, but one of ViJay's tool creates a automatic sync with Bt or IR.
Works great with my Uni, thanks!

Wi-Fi connection status:

Wi-Fi power status:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \System\State\Hardware\Wifi
2 = powered on
4 = networks available
8 = connecting
16 = connected
1 = always set? WiFi hardware present?

[APP][25MAR10][v2.4.0.2]Power Radio - FM player with RDS decoding

Why PowerRadio?
The built-im FM player - at least on HTC HD - misses many features i'd like to have in a FM radio. PowerRadio delivers many data available via RDS which would otherwise be invisible to the listener. Here are just a few examples:
- Radiotext: contains information broadcast by the respective station. What you get here totally depens on the broadcaster. You might see title and interpret, call-in numbers, SMS trafficservice numbers, URL's etc.
- traffic announcements, program type, coverage area, date, time, timezone, various status flags
More info on RDS can be found in this post.

fantastic! works great on my raphael (6.5)
thanks
Now I just change the color brown ..
I am using Raphael 6.5 ROM too.
I couldn't hear anything after installation but I couldsee RDS data on the screen.
I closed and replaced GFMAPI then it works.
Suggestion: add indicator of loading/unloading progress such as a spinning hourglass.
Heya. Nice to see you released your radio Looking quite good! I like the classic yellow/brown look.
Just two remarks I found so far..
1) When on speaker mode, shutdown and restart, it's on full volume. Woke half my family with it ;-) Could you enforce the previous volume on startup?
2) Could you change the sensitivity setting to allow higher sensitivity? When at 9 I still get way too many 'static noise' stations. I need it to go to at least 15 or so. Besides, sensitivity is more like 'minimal signal level'. Else a value of '0' implies less sensitive, while it seems to be even more sensitive.

right.
I was listening with headphones
Hi,
That's great for a start! I'm impressed!
I have found some bugs:
- The volume level is louder than the volume indicator after a close/restart.
- After a close/restart, the names of the preset buttons change from for example "87,5" to "87" with the "5" under the "87" (see pics)... After that the preset button for my example tunes to "87" and not to "87,5". If I try to edit the name, only "5" is editable.
- There's a problem with the police you use: after I use Power Radio, the font of the task manager on my Touch HD is replaced by yours (see pic)... I have to soft reset to get it back.
Will it be possible to:
- store more presets
- store the name of the station instead of the frequency during the scan
- add the possibility to record the radio
One more question, but it may be for flywhc: when the reception is not good, the name of the station can be misspelled (the other information also can be wrong)... I thought the checkwords in RDS groups could help in detecting these errors and not transmit a wrong block.
Did not open on Touch Pro 2. Installed fine. When opened it, error came "can't open GFMAPI"
Hi, Looks good however it isn't working on my verizon diamond. It opens and say wait loading forever. If you close and restart the ap I get can't open GFMAPI. I also noticed that it changes my HTC task bar font to the digital font. Well i'm looking forward to your next rev. Thanks for the hard work.
Thanks everyone for your comments. I added a todo list to the first post reflecting your suggestions.

I forgot to mention that country settings are ignored in this version. I'm using a WWE rom where comma is a ".", on your screenshot i see a french version where obviously comma is ",". I will add country support later - it's on the todo.

Thats possible, but would extend scan times dramatically as i've to wait for RDS data to arrive. And then there are still broadcasters without RDS at all. I'll consider adding a scan option for that.

It's not flywhc's fault, GFMAPI delivers the checkwords but at the moment they are simply ignored . Added to todo.

I dont know your device, does it have a built-in FM radio app? Could you try to run flywhc's APITest (see first post) and see if it opens/plays?
After closing PowerRadio, you have to wait for approx. 10 secs. before restarting it. This is due to hidden threads running in background after exit. I'll add waitcursors in future releases to indicate that.
You could try to run a manual scan while it still displays "wait loading", or manually step through frequencies to a known station. Please let me know the outcome.

I'm not very talented when it comes to grafics and skins, so i better dont - trust me Currently it wouldnt be possible too, as many elements are hardcoded. As a best effort i could modify the GUI to make skins possible, i'm sure there are some grafics genius'es out there to fill the gap.

My TP2 came with FM radio installed. I listen to it everyday. Everytime I run this application, keeps coming with the mapi error as mentioned above.
Looks great already!
On Topaz (HTC Touch Diamond2) the volume is really really low. Increasing system volume to max. didn't help. Are the up(green) and down(red) arrows for volume? They don't do anything on my device either.
Thanks!

Excellent idea here. I installed, started it, it finds stations, but there is no audio at all. It also seemed to disable sounds throughout the whole system while it was on. Any ideas here? I am using a custom ROM with windows 6.5. Be glad to help you troubleshoot. Also, seems to have changed the font in Taskmanager Thanks for the work you have done so far

Please install SQL CE from the cab found here.
Please bear in mind that I have written this for my own use and am quite happy to put this out for others to use. I will take on board suggestions, but will continue to develop this at my own pace.
Many Thanks,
Paul Ryder.
Thanks for you application.
I see the bars on the top left corner. Is it GPS signal status ? If so, why the bars is still there when I stop GPS ?

1) - GPS Signal bars stay after GPS is stopped.

Ah, that would be a bug..
Cheers, have added it to bug tracker and will resolve it shortly.
Great little application. Thank you.
A suggestion, perhaps an adjustable speed warning. IE change screen colour when over a set top speed. (or even stages of screen colour changes ie at 30/50/80 etc)
Thanks again
I noticed the name of your app "GPS Speedo" but some one already has that name for there GPS app over @ http://www.tchartdev.com/
So it'll get confusing to know whats what between the two.
Hi Ralph,
Tried your application yesterday and today and seems to be working fine. Speed shows nicely, AVG seems to be correct.
Some pointers you might wanna consider;
1- The font could be more clear. The "greyed" lines are a bit too visible I think
2- Are the gps records logged? You could integrate this into some kind of export. For people (like myself) who drive the same route to work every day, it would be fun to see some statistics..
3- Max. speed warning (no sound effects, please )
If I come up with something else, ill let you know. Thanks for the nice app!

1 - Still not decided on the font yet, I like the matrix style, but was going for the grid behind it. I might just remove that.
2 - They are not logged yet, I just need to know how people want it logged?
Raw nmea sentences
KML files to use in Google Earth
Or another way
3 - I though of this, how would you like it. Single speed or stepped as suggested before?
I am also going to provide logging for the trip, times/distance/(ave/max) speed etc
Cheers,
Paul.
Hi, just wanted to let you know that this runs fine on my Sprint Touch (Vogue) running a stock 6.1 ROM.

Hmm, All I do is install the two fonts, I know that WM will use the best choice font, but that's a bit silly.
I'm going to remove this one from the next release. Try going to \windows\fonts and deleting the Font that Ends in A___.ttf.
Cheers,
Paul.

Happened the same to me...
Looks like the apps that are being affected are missing a font, I had this with the Facebook app installed by default on Dutty's Leo R4.
Windows Mobile tries to be clever if you select a font and it's not on the device, it chooses the one closest in size (I think) to the one it's trying to use, thus you get some Random effects.
I'll see if I can restrict the font to only be used by my app, deleting the font will revert your other apps back to normal.
Paul.

But also 'cause GPS Speedo to become unusable? I didn't try though..
It is still usable, but the Gray background looks even worse.
At least your other apps are usable again.
I'll get an update out at the weekend.

First change.
Removed one of the fonts as it was making other apps unusable, thanks MS..
Also changed the name as GPS_Speedo isn't unique by any means.
Remove previous version if installed.
Unzip the cab file, copy to device and kick off install with file manager.
Cheers,
Paul.
This is a great application Paul, my 300ZX's speedometer does not work, so I use this app as an alternative and help me stay in the speed limit. Cops always watching me if I passed the limit in the highway

Updated [Jan-10]: [App] [G-Sensor] [Brand New] The XSense v1.2 Final

Credits:
Foremost, let us all acknowledge Koushik for his brilliant "Sensors" library upon which most if not all non-HTC apps that use the G-Sensor, Light-Sensor, and Navi-Sensor are built, simply ingenious. Moreover, I would like to recognize No2chem for the NeuLed2 library which is an equally exquisite peace of code that allows access to the Diamond/Pro Leds. Without those two guys, accessing these advance interfaces on the diamond/pro would be inapproachable at best.
Reason: HTC gave these phones lots of sensors, lets give them.."Sense".
......... EXTRA-Sense ...........
* Hopefully, an innovaton & integration of RANDOM but needful features...
Features:
1. Courtesy Settings:
- Select Volume Profiles to activate on Face-Down & Face-UP events. Choose from: None, Silent, Normal, and Vibrate. You can also choose to suspend the Phone when its facing down (duh!).
2. Notifications-Sense:
- IF there is/are any outstanding notification(s), the device will vibrate whenever you move it at customizable intervals: Missed Call(s), Voice Mail, and SMS only.
3. Stylus-Sense:- When the Stylus is in/out: Will play faint sound + Blink the Back button's light +/Vibrate. Moreover, the device will vibrate whenever you move it at customizable intervals.
- When the Stylus is out and the device is moved: Device will vibrate twice on every posture change + blink the Back button's light to REMIND you that the Stylus has not been placed back in. This goes ON until the Stylus is placed where it should be.
* Uses "in.wav" & "out.wav" files in the \XSense\ Dir; you can use whatever wave files for this. OR, use the UI to select whichever wave files you want!
4. General Settings:
- Polling Interval: From 200 to 3000 Miliseconds. This determines the rate at which the G-Sensor is polled. Lower values give higher response times and fluid operation at the cost of battery life & CPU utilization.
- Flash Navi Lights: Will blink button lights to notify you of Profile changes and Stylus In/Out.
- Vibrate on Events: Will induce very subtle vibrations to notify you of Notifications and Profile changes.
- Suspend when UP-Side-Down: Your phone will suspend if you hold it up-side-down (duh!)
- Light Navi Button When Suspended: Will do just that. This is an independent setting that turns ON the Navi button's light at suspend time, and OFF at Resume time (this is Event Driven, so no polling is involved). This feature really helps if, like me, you want to see where the damn thing is in the dark - before you launch it against the floor.
6. Installs to "\Program Files\XSense", and Creates 2 shortcuts:
"Start Menu\Programs\XSense" and "Startup\XSenseSvc".
Program Settings are saved to the Registry at "HKCU\Software\XSense\".
Use of System Resources:
1. Diskspace: 162 KB RAM footprint: 374-535 KB Battery: NOT observed.
2. CPU Usage: %0.29 Average. Spikes for 2 seconds to %2.7 - %8.5.
* Indicated CPU usage occurs ONLY when there is an EVENT (posture changed, stylus in/out Sounds playing,
etc)
- Vibration: The way I like it is in waves of 200 miliseconds length! I generally hate vibrations, so if you want it at 201 ms. you're welcome to make your own program and enjoy the merits of your personal taste.
- This prgram Registers Event Handlers for: "G-Sensor", "Incoming Call", "Phone Call in Progress", "Stylus in/out", and Power Manager events. DO NOT move it to Internal Storage, you have been warned.
Requirements:
.NET 3.5 + Diamond or Raphael (for all features to work), else, any HTC device with GSensor & Light Sensor.
Bugs/Limitations:
Knock yourself out...
Disclaimer:
This program is provided strictly on "as is" basis. It is intended only as a proof-of-concept. Although fully functional, it must NOT be considered for daily use. Release Notes:
- This is the LAST revision/release/app I make; programming too much work
- Download & Install the CAB
- Run the XSense from your Start Menu\Programs, customize to taste, and enjoy!
Change Log:
- Brand New UI: VERY touch friendly - this is especially useful if you have
an WVGA Device - HD/Rhodium/Topaz/HD2 etc...
- Revised entire code for existing & potential bugs, and Performance
tweaked to death.
- Removed various functions (auto speakerphone, car-kit options, etc...). Use "Touch InCall Screen Tweak" for these,
its handles Phone/Speaker brilliantly!
- Shortcut added to Startup for automatic launch after reboot.
- Shortcut with a nice icon added to Start Menu (Credit to VetVito).
- General Tab:
- Navi Button will only light up if the device is in a dark place, i.e. You will
always see where your phone is (before you trash it against the wall).
- Stylus Tab:
- UI elements to select & set sounds for Stylus-in/out events.
Download: XSense 1.2 - Final

Actually, with very minor modifications (taking the led calls out) it should work just dandy. Or, better yet, does the TP2 have any leds? Do the buttons light up on events, like the diamond/raphael?

This is a intended to a direct replacement for a HTC/T-Mobile rom but based on a newer version of Windows Mobile. In addition to the standard packages from the T-Mobile 1.33 rom I have added the following applications
Advanced Config Tool
AppToDate
ArcSwitch Task Manager
Facebook
gsPlayer (ShoutCast capable)
HTC Wifi Router
Tiny Twitter
Remember to set the device locale, time and align the screen post install. If you do not (the first two) Windows Marketplace will not work.
Usual disclaimer: This works for me and is offered with the best of intentions, but I am not responsible for any device damage.
I would like to try this but first I'd like to know. Is the rom customized for T-Mobile or not? I hope it is a generic WWE version
EDIT : If it is customized, what does it have and will it work on other carriers as well?

Sorry to bother you but could you upload on another site? I want to download this rom but zshare doesn't seem to work for me. Maybe megaupload or something similar? Thank you
Very nice WM 6.5.5 - found there's no T-Moble branding. This is just what I was looking but would rather have that you didn't add any applications. We could install them ourselves if needed. Is there a way to uninstall some of them?
Can you upload one for us without adding anything? I would have been happy with the WM 6.5.5 clean ROM, but there was many errors with installing apps. and didn't work well.
Thanks for upload
I am for clean ROM too.
I was finally able to try this after waiting 3 hours eek to download it from zshare. It was like having a dial-up connection all over again . So here's a mirror site where you can download the rom if you are experiencing the same problems I did : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YGX2BPP7.
Other than that, the rom is great, working fine, seems to be the best one yet. I only found annoyng the slider in the dialler and the volume animation when pressing the side volume keys (although the original animation is available in the phone, it is not activated when the hardware keys are pressed). I wish I knew how to cook if only to solve these minor issues with the rom in order to make it perfect.
Anyway, I will be sticking with this one for a while and would love if anyone could sort the things I stated earlier. So thank you for sharing this great rom with us

Been ruunning Johan's 6.5.3 for a couple of days with no issues, but going to give this ROM a blast now...

I also found that with this rom, even though my volume is set to high, when the phone rings it's too silent. This didn't happen on the other roms I've tried and I have set the same stock ringtone. Any thoughts?

Ensure you have notifications on. On the home screen go to the settings cog and select 'Sounds -phone profiles and system sounds'. Scroll down to notification sounds and make sure you have them turned on.
Tried the new Glassy thingy ROM today, nowhere near as quick or useable as this one. This is the best rom currently out there... I think I'm going to have to learn to cook - I want a 'professional' rom that's primarily for email and browsing, so no silly touchflo or titanium, todayagenda and iContact in rom, esmertec java to install operam mini 5 final (native beta too buggy)...

First thing I tried. I doublechecked, even with notifications on the screen doesn't light up. That can be confusing because I use silent often and it doesn't ring or vibrate but before the screen used to light up. Oh well...

Man, I didn't even think about trying that one. It looked horrible, at least to me. I like having touchflo because the windows mobile standby screen is not at all finger-friendly and titanium isn't really intuitive/useful. Besides, how does touchflo come in the way of e-mail or browsing? (those sure aren't the most resource-hungry apps) And it sure doesn't make the device slow, especially with this rom having the stock manilla wich was designed to run on top of the UI. I have to agree with you on this rom being the best yet. I'm using it too and am pleased with it. Do you really use opera mini instead of opera mobile? I found the latter to be much faster and more capable
Guys one thing you can do to get rid of the scroll bar in the dialer is open the advanced config tool in the start menu. Expand 'User Interface' and set 'Vertical Scrollbar width' to 0px. Not an ideal work around as it kills scroll bars system wide, however I have not found it to be awful so far, just scroll lists with a finger. This appears to be a bug in this build of Windows and needs patching of some of the HTC dlls.
