Need Advice with Sprint - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

So i was trying to be cool with Sprint and get a new phone with them and I told them that my phone was messed up. I loaded a hacked ROM with for my MOGUL and Sprint wants me to go to a store and take care of it.
The CARE ticket said this..
Front Buttons Damaged/Missing
Should i load an official sprint rom and relock it?
ADVICE!!! HELP!!!

If your front buttons are damaged, then the Sprint store will not be able to assist you by replacing your phone. Of course, I have heard of people that happen to stumble upon a Sprint store that does replace the phone, but for the most part they abide by their policy to not replace 'damaged' phones. That is what asurion is for. If you pay for the isurance, you can file a claim on aursion's website and they will bill you the $50 deductible on your next Sprint bill.
Oh, if the phone is not really physically damaged but you want to replace it, the store probably won't help you. However, you could still file a claim and pay the $50 deductible through asurion.
Hope this is helpful information.

And give you a case, charger, and something else... You have to say you need it as the original was destroyed with the phone. I was SHOCKED when they offered it to me!!!!
Oh: and if you DO go to sprint to exchange... Yeah, lock it on down!
Why do people go to the stores anyways. You like poor customer service face to face vs getting it on the phone? Wont sprint send you a phone like VZW does? Third TP in a month and not a singel question has been asked when I call them. Just say, I think my phone is messed up its [insert favorite common failure here] and I hard reset and that did not fix it. Ok sir, whats your shipping address?
Sprint wont do that I take it?

If you have the Insurance package (6 bucks a month), you could just say you lost the phone for all they care and all you'd have to do is pay $50 and wait a week for a new one.

[Q] Cracked Screen... Replacement or Repair?

So I just cracked my phone's screen today (stupidest way.. I've never damaged a phone ever, I baby them) and trust me, it hurt ME. Anyway.
I have insurance on the phone (girlfriend put it on when we started the contract) anyway, I have heard HORRIBLE things about Asurion replacements (bad refurbs, usually either dirty, scratched up or stop working within a couple of weeks) and I really don't want to be on that boat.
On the other hand I could just have the digitizer replaced (since the actual LCD and the phone works superb) but I have two problems with this:
A. I don't know how to repair it myself, never dealt in repairing hardware.
B. I can't seem to find a place around me that fixes anything but stupid iPhones.
What would you guys do?
Oh, here's a picture if you want to share the pain...
EDIT:
Here's the current status (I figure I should keep everyone informed of how horrible this process is so when I finally find a way to get my problem fixed, someone else doesn't have to deal with all this).
When my girl and I first went into Sprint the first night and they told us they don't do physical repairs (which is a lie btw, they do if its less than 2 cracks and it takes up less than an inch, another store told me this) they had us start a replacement with Asurion over the phone. The guy was ready to ship the phone but I told him to wait off to see if I could get the screen replaced someplace else. He said he'd keep the ticket open.
Today after going to two other Sprint stores (one said they don't do physical repairs, other said what I already posted above about the cracks). I told my girlfriend (she's the primary on the account) to go ahead and file the insurance claim. Asurion had no record of the guy leaving the ticket open, but somehow they needed a FAXED (no e-mail) copy of her photo ID.
Tomorrow I will be going to Sprint and I will tell them this horrible experience. I know its a third party company that deals with this, but I've about had it. My bills say Sprint, not Asurion, they will find a fix or I'll cancel contract right in front of them with no EFT due to the Administration fee change. It's horrible customer service. The second time we called Asurion (to finish the claim that was lost) we were on hold for half an hour.
Oh another thing I'm going to be showing the Sprint manager tomorrow:
http://support.sprint.com/support/article/Find_out_the_cost_of_replair_or_replacement_for_your_device/case-ba416758-20090629-111250
Specifically the last two words of the first paragraph, I know it's outdated, but because of that reason, it shouldn't be up on their website in the first place.
I will let everyone know how this goes afterwards.
They sent me a new one when I cracked my og evo screen

I have heard people slamming new phones as well. Have u taken it in to a repair shop (sprint) and asked if they can just repair it? Look on Craigslist people advertise repairs on it all the time
I would have it replaced if u can't work on it urself. They usually sell screens and digitizers on eBay. I would suggest buy both since they are glued together. It's just easier to replace.

Go into a Sprint repair store and show it to them. If they have a cool repair tech he may fix it for you for free. When my camera cover glass cracked they fixed that for free, but it depends on the store. Some are helpful and some follow company policy strictly. There is a post here that walks you through replacing the screen if you want to try it yourself and have the tools. You also have to weigh the costs. Are a screen and digitizer cheaper than the $100 deductible on Asurion. Since the 3D is still a new phone chances are you will get a new one from Asurion. Also, are you rooted with revolutionary?? Which is a much better root than the HTC method. If you are, any new phone will come with the new bootloader which means you will only be able to use HTC's method of rooting.
just 2 weeks ago we needed to replace a lost og evo on my account, we got a brand new one, unopened box. with that phone as old as it is I would think you would get a new one with a 3D
edit: i didnt read the above post,, good point, i wouldn't want to get stuck with the 1.500 hboot you cant use the revolutionary on
If you are happy with the device have it repaired.
As another posted stated check ahead of time. Some devices have the LCD glued to the touchscreen/glass aka digitizer/glass. Manufacturers do this to help prevent dust from collecting on the LCD over time.
I have not taken apart a 3D yet so i cant confirm that as of yet.
Feel free to PM me for more info. I cant officaily offer to help you fix it, board rules. wink wink nod nod special handshake. but if i can help i will.
We are not even supposed to touch 3d's yet , the crack looks to take up less then an inch of screen they should replace it for you , there no I referbs yet anyway .
My store has swapped out front panels for free even without insurance, given we have the parts phone to strip , since we can make a ticket for 3d's yet
If you don't have an Evo3d well ...
Call a sprint service and repair store, ask to speak to a tech there, and tell the truth as far as what happened and the size of the crack. If it's around an inch or less they should cover it. If it's a bigger crack if you make a good impression on the tech they may cover it anyways and replace the whole panel at no charge if you have TEP.
I would call or email Htc about it... Maybe they do it for you even if u have to pay... I would pay to get it fix.. just to keep my original device!!!

I have actually had nothing but good experiences with Asurion. On my OG EVO I had to have it replaced and they sent me a refurb. The refurb had a small indention in the screen. I called them and they have to by policy run some tests. The tests are for technical problems, but they still ran through them even though my issue was cosmetic. After my dent was still there after rebooting the phone lol they sent me a brand new one. They always send the phones out next day shipping and as long as they have them in stock you will get yours the next day.
I would, like others have suggested, take it into a Sprint repair center and see if they will fix it. Then basically it's research on just how hard or easy it will be to replace it yourself. If it cost more than $100 or you feel completely overwhelmed, I would get the replacement through Asurion. Just remember, they have certain stickers and ways to tell if you have opened your phone up and it will void your 1 year warranty should something happen.
Thanks for all the replies guys. I forgot to add this to the OP: I took the phone into Sprint yesterday I and was told that they don't fix any sort of physical damage, which I thought was bull based on other threads I saw here in the forums. Any special policy or anything I should bring up to have them stop lying to me? I
And it's comforting that everyone ha s had good experiences with Asurion. If I can't have the screen fixed I'll definitely do that. The fact that is new brings up a good point, but I've also read they'll wait until they have the phone to replace it for you.

My store does , but like I said you can't open up 3d's yet so its more like a favor insured or not
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
The store I went to was an official Sprint one. I did a bunch of calling to all the repair stores around me, all of them told me they wont touch it if it's physically damaged (I threw in that was less than an inch).
I DID get a guy that at least asked if it was one crack and I told him it was a main one and was spider webbed out, he told me that the tech would look at it, so I"m going over now and see what happens. I'll keep everyone posted. I just rather not spend 100 bucks on a new refurbed phone when the crack is not that giant.

Because when I tried to do that it told me that "more information was needed" and to call in.
Going into Sprint in an hour or so.

Probably not much u can do especially if he included the words "as is" anywhere in the post, but if he didn't you can probably go to your local police station and file a police report and take the guy to small claims court......I think anyway.......you might want to ask Binary he's a cop he would know better then me.

Well he can report it to his local police station but there's not much they can do. This is actually more of a civil action unless you can provide reasonable doubt that the seller is selling stolen merchandise. And if the post says "AS-IS" or anything similiar then you're SOL. You can try to contact Craigslist and report the seller for selling stolen merchandise. They might cooperate with you to take the seller to civil court.
That's about the best that you can do.
Good luck!
That's what you get for buying on craigslist. If it was ebay at least you would have been protected.

Thanks everyone who helped, Binary i know that normally with craigslist stuff if you get scammed its pretty much on you. But the guy told me he got the phone off a upgrade and decided to stick with his old phone therefore he is lying. I also know that the number he was using to do the business with is linked to t mobile which leaves his information for the police vulnerable. Luckily my mom works at a high school and i have access to a police officer. Since you're a police officer i was wondering if i had information showing that the phone he sold me is directly linked to his account and shows that he said the phone was stolen/lost i can report him to asurion insurance and get him in trouble for insurance fraud at least. The one thing i was wondering is if he would say i stole the phone from him but i have the box with unopened accessories and text showing we were meeting up etc.

I'm actually thinking that did the insurance fraud thing. He likely called Asurian to tell them that he lost the phone and would like a replacement. Asurian then puts the IMEI on a black list so it can't be activated again since it was reported "Lost/Stolen" and shipped him another. He then sold it to you. Now without a Bill Of Sale it's all on you. If you have the text message then you have his number. Contact the seller directly and inform him. Best case scenario he did not actually with full intent attempt to sell you a stolen phone. He may be able to call Asurian and say that he had found the device and they might then be able to remove it from the black list. However they will probably want the replacement back. The most that you can really do is threaten him to call the police... but this is really a civil matter. Just because you have the box and phone number doesn't mean anything. Here's an example. If you were a criminal and robbed someone's house, took their tv, computer, jewelry, phone, box for phone, etc you can also take their identity since almost everyone has bills laying around. At least mail. So they can have your name, phone number, address, IMEI, original packaging... whole nine yards. Does that still prove that you know eachother? Can he still use that to prove that the sale was legit? No way. This is a civil matter and not so much criminal so you're not going to get much assistance from the police.
My advice, contact the seller and tell him that you need ALL of his information. Name, address, contact information for his account, etc and tell him that you have to use it to get his information removed from the black list. Try to get his DL number too. Tell him that the insurance company requires a copy of it to remove it from the list. Make up something clever like that. Then use that information to file for court. It's up to you if you want to try to settle it in court or not but it's your best bet. PD has a lot more to worry about than Craigslist scams and unless the insurance company or TMobile wants to provide informatino willingly to a law enforcement official. They may or may not because they are under no legal obligation to comply unless it's ordered by the court. But again... that's really up to you.
One other option is to consult with your local prosecutor's office. Laws and procedures vary state by state, and between jurisdictions, but in Florida a lot of jurisdictions will operate some type of citizens dispute mediation program using volunteer mediators.
The idea is that by bringing both parties to the State Attorney's Office they will reach an agreement, or the more guilty party will make things right, and actually follow through on it because they believe it has a little more authority attached to whatever resolution is decided upon when in reality it may be an incident that is more civil in nature and could never be proven beyond a reasonable doubt in criminal court.
we are talking about a $350 phone. just the court claim costs $200(at least here in IL).and there is no way you can get that guys information. the fact that he was able to sell you a bad imei phone means he is a pro, cuz not everybody can do that, you gotta have done it before. I am just curious how did you buy the phone without even trying to put a sim card on it..
What Binary said makes a lot sense otherwise not sure what else "Bad IMEI" could be implying.
If this is true, and t-mobile blacklist the phone for activation, may be you can try unlock and see if it works under other carrier such as AT&T? If works, you can try switch carrier or sell to AT&T users.
contact a subrogation service. They will scare the crap out of the guy and will get your money back...I got about 8 years ago on ebay when it wasn't so safe, someone sold me a laptop but it was just a poster of a laptop. Problem was in the description it never said laptop, it said item and it was basically a poster of laptop with its specs. so what I got was a laminated poster of a laptop for 1100 dollars. Subrogation services is a good thing. look into it.

U can never unlock an imei blacklisted phone.
tmobile block the imei number of the phone, when the phone ever was reported stolen lost or the guy asked for an exchange and never return it, there is no way to unlock the imei number so you are screw,
i say get together with some friends find this guy a kick his ass!!
when did you sign your contact.... If you just activated you might be under buyers remorse

I was informed i could unlock and use on other networks just not tmobile with a bad imei? i was planning on selling on ebay including the info that it has to be unlocked and switched to anyone besides tmobile.
I signed the contract because i have a 14day period where i can cancel without a fee i figured i would find a way to change the imei if worse came to worse.
Last i was told by a t mobile rep that they were changing my imei and it will take around 2hours.
I thought it was as simple as putting in your sim card? I guess tmobile is getting with the times.
If the guy never used the phone asurion would never do a claim for him! They have to see the imei active for them to file a claim!
And it is possible to unblock a imei asurion can do it.

TEP opinion

My son dropped his phone (Epic 4G). No visual damage except the screen is permanently green only.
What are your opinions about claiming loss or damage to replace it. I have the TEP on his phone.
Thanks
(Yes I know not exactly Photon related.. but I appreciate the help)
Get it replaced as that is what you pay $8.00 a month for.
My only ***** (and I caught them!) there are 2 tiers, $50.00 and $100.00. Photon was not on either list, I printed it out. When I called, they wanted $100.00. I told them Photon was not on the list and faxed them a copy. Hour later Photon was on $100.00 list. I again sent *.PDF's I got off internet. I got away with $50.00.
Anyway, no matter what your son did or did not do. Just like Car Insurance, people have accidents.
Yeah, the biggest downside to me with TEP is that there is a $100 deductible. So consider that you own the phone for 2 years, and then something goes wrong. You are out of contract and eligible for an upgrade.
At this point, you have paid $8/month for 24 months, that's $192, add in the $100 deductible, and you could probably buy your 2 year old phone from the secondary market for the same price, or you could re-up your contract and buy a newer phone for about $100 less.
I would say replace it. Tell them whatever you need to in order to get them to swap it out, but bear in mind, you may be looking at a $100 deductible.
Do it online don't go to a store unless your store hires intelligent staff.
Filed on 2/18 a saturday, yeah i know.....my hp all in one took a ****.
"they will call you within 24 to 48 hours to accept payment"
48 hrs came and went, no call or text on second line
Call em up - ID image was unreadable, bs imo,
Really so how am I supposed to know this? telepathy?
Fax in enlarged lightened id image and reiterate contact phone #
(Actually went back to the sprint store to save going to fedex, "it'll still look the same" wow baristas selling phones - facepalm)
Nothing
Call again - start the process. deductible added to phone bill - great.
Then asked if the sprint store's address is my correct mailing address
"do you people even have my claim affidavit?" no wonder no one called.
Received phone yesterday 2/22
Checked mail
one item from asurion
exact identical claim forms

I agree, but the $8/month helps me sleep well at night. To some degree, Im anal with my toys, which is why I unleashed on that chick at Sprint when my power button came out and she accused me of dropping my phone. Before I even opened my mouth 3 of my co-workers got on her! anyway, for $8.00, if something happens, I want a brand new phone as In the contract. I don't want a referb, I dont want a display unit, I want a new phone!
The first year I had my phone(s), whenever something goofy happened and it wasn't behaving exactly as expected, I took it to an actual Sprint repair center.
In each case (five times in 18 months), it took around 40 minutes for the on-site repair tech to conclude that it could not be fixed locally. At that point, they look at my account, see TEP and hand over a new or refurb phone.
Now that I think of it, my TP2 stopped booting in August of last year. I took it to the repair center (must be an authorized and official repair center - check sprint <dot> com) and in 40 minutes, they entered an order to have a refurb drop shipped to my home and I didn't have to pay the Assurion deductible.
Granted, YMMV, but if you have TEP and if you have an official / authroized Sprint repair center in your area, it is worth a shot to see if they'll hand you a new phone.
Best regards,
-boggsie
I went to the sprint store near me today. After 15 minutes they said the phone could not be fixed and are ordering me a replacement free! Woohoo, Sprint gets a bonus point for that

This is why I dont buy phones from Sprint and why I dont use their insurance. It's complete ****. If I broke my photon I would end up paying $50 more than I bought it for brand new at Best Buy ($49.99 when I got it) Bestbuys has no deductible and they replace it no questions asked. Only thing they dont cover is theft.

How difficult to replace glass screen cover?

Cracked mine on a rock today...sweet. How can I repair this?
If you have TEP even accidental physical damage is covered under the plan.
No TEP is a $35 charge plus parts.
Either way let the pros handle it.

I don't have Sprint, I have US Cellular.
find a friend with a photon, flash a sprint rom and send him to the sprint store.
Kidding of course. Sorry I have no experience with USC. Worth a call to them but be very careful to not give too much info. They could flag your account as an unrepareable device then your on your own.
Indeed. No techs in store today apparently, I'll try monday.

[Q] Need help with Warranty issue

I managed to crack my screen a while back and i have a not so quick question.
Is it possible to have sprint fix my screen and not send me a refurb unit? When i went into the repair store the "head repair guy" (i don't know what their title is) told me that sprint will NOT repair my phone, and that i had to file a claim with the TEP insurance and get a refurbished EVO lte, which also happens to cost $130. he quickly followed up with the reasoning behind the no-fix is that sprint loses something like $200 when people buy these phones.
I really dont want to be out $130 and i even more so do not want a refurb. I went through 5 OG EVO units in 2 years, all were because of hardware failures, and only the first unit was non-refurbished (and all had very visible wear and tear damage to the screens and bodies, one even had bite marks).
The only other options i see are replacing the screen myself (which voids warranty and i have zero experience in this field making me very uncomfortable doing it) or local repair store (i can only find one place willing to do it but its gonna cost me the same and will probably void sprint warranty anyways).
so ya. there you have it.

i dont know about sprint's warranty but if you take you phone anywhere else, it will void your warranty with htc. if you are going to have to pay that much to have it fixed, then you may as well send it to htc. that way your warranty will still be valid and they will fix any other issues you may be having that doesnt require changing the main board.

The reason i don't want to have Sprint do the repairs is because they WON'T do the repairs. They will send me a refurbished unit, one that had already been damaged and fixed. I don't want someone else's broken phone.

call htc 866-449-8358 and ask how much it will cost. the price wont be exact, its just an estimate. but you will have a guaranteed 90 days warranty on any repairs that have to be done. i think its around $150ish. i cant remember tho lol

re you sure? On my OG Evo they replaced mg screen 3 times, speaker twice, bezel once and camera lens cover twice. All for free.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I would try a different sprint store and see what they say. Make sure its a corporate store and not an affiliate store. It seems to be hit or miss on whether a particular store will replace a cracked screen. By the way, TEP is $150 not $130. You don't always get a refurb from Assurian, I always got a new phone as a replacement.
