Of course you need it. Unless you want your screen scratched, and believe me it will without a protector, especially if you use your finger nail to tap on the screen. Even more expensive devices will scratch without taking proper care.
Have to agree with eaglesteve - exactly the same reason Photographers use a UV filter or the like on lenses, even though moderm coatings pretty much don't need it - its easier and way cheaper to replace a filter or screen protector than it is to replace a front element or touchscreen.
it will scratch, almost anything will scratch if miss used, its a fact, but by all means, dont stick a protector on, just be real carfull, in fact best not touch it at all.

Blackstone hard sleeve?? + Audio player controller idea

Hi I am paranoid about breaking the screen on my HD/Blackstone at work as I could quite easily bash it against something whilst it is in my pocket.
My current method of protecting the screen is to keep it in the standard sleeve that comes with it and make sure that the screen is always pointing towards my body so that if I bump into something I am less likely to damage the screen.
Does anybody know of a hard sleeve for the HD/Blackstone? I know that you can get plastic and aluminium cases but they are useless in this case as they don't cover the screen.
I don’t really like the look of the leather ones. I would consider one if I was a business man . I'm after something with the same principle as the standard sleeve but tough and maby that allows access to the headphone socket and EXTusb port at the same time.
Cheers
P.s. Audio player controller idea (FOR ANYBODY WHO IS INTERESTED).
I am thinking of purchasing the RC E100 remote control. I was thinking that I may have a go at determining what data is sent to the USB port to control the audio player so that I can build my own controller.
My plan is to use a micro-controller with a serial / USB interface so that I can create a controller to be driven by switches or a car radio stalk (which is the intended application).
At the moment this is just an idea and any input would be appreciated. I will start a thread when I have a bit more of an idea and info about how it will work.
Off the top of my head I realise that the E100 must have some sort of internal amplifier and a DAC/processor to convert the audio data sent down the EXTusb port into and audible signal. For ease of design I think it would be best to just use the jack output of the HD and ditch all the external audio processing.
Theoretically leaving the control data for play pause stop next volume ECT ECT.
My question is does the jack on the hd still o/p sound when the E100 remote is plugged in and in use and if not can/has anyone modified the registry or something to enable it.
My knowledge of software is not brilliant. I am more of a hardware kinda guy . I have just finished a degree in electronic engineering and have been using micro-controllers a lot during my course and think I could get a micro-controller to send the appropriate data to control the audio player. However my knowledge of how the firmware/software on the HD works is virtually non existent . Hoping you’ll be able to help me out and all input is greatly appreciated.
Cheers

The pdair aluminium case has a hard clear perspex screen over the touch screen.
Only disadvantage is you need to open the cover to use the touch screen, but then with other types of cases you have to remove from pouch or whatever so its not really that big of a deal.
Took me awhile to get used to it, now it doesnt bother me. I'd rather have a bit of inconvenience than destroy my phone.

I know you said you don't like leather, but check this Belkin case for iPhone.
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=374799#
I have it, and after trying out like 5-6 different cases, this has become my default case. The stock pouch is almost no protection against hits to the screen, but this little Belkin is very solid. It has reinforced front and back sides, probably hard plastic inside, it looks very stylish and it's also veeery tight. Actually a bit too tight I had to use my fingers to stretch it out a bit so that HD would fit inside.
But none the less, it's a very good case that provides good protection and has access holes on the top and the bottom, so you can easily use USB cord and earphones without taking the phone out of the case.

Is it any way to avoid scratches on HD?? And how to REMOVE SCRATCHES and SPOTS???

Ive got this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3463730&postcount=185 case 4 one month. Im flashin much and need to remove this case permanently. So ive notice that after several removing the glitter parts of my HD are not so glitter more This case leaves visible worn spots on glitter parts of device. That is really sad cuz ive bought it 4 protection and it makes opposite.
So i wanna know about your experience in scratches'n'spots avoidance.
And one more thing. Can smb advice a good paste 2 polish up glittes pieces my HD? Or smth what makes em look better (4 scratches, spots removing).
Thanks 4 attention!
To remove polish traces, use a white rubber, afterwards clean with a micro-textile cloth (such as used for cleaning your glasses, camera lens, etc.).
Thanks 4 advice! im gonna try it.
Can i use polich paste 4 CD to remove scratches from device case? Have someboby tryed it?
If its any comfort my HD looks like its been dragged around the track by Ben-Hur....but it still works perfectly. From my experience the device will be redundant and ready to replace with a newer model way before it becomes so roughed up that you would call it ugly
Anyway DO NOT use any of the magic polishes on the Touch screen as I have heard that it does more damage than good...and I am talking about the special pastes you buy to actually touch up your mobile phone screen.
Good luck....

I can only help u with the avoiding part I also have those crystal cases, even got 2 of em 1, still not used but I thought it would never absorb any shocks in case I accidentally drop my HD so i bought those silicon cases. I prefer this better than the hard plastic one. And to top it all, I have clear-coat in my HD. So clear-coat + silicon case = Good overall protection + little shock absorber.

great protection you have! and do you use complete clear coat cuz ive read thats ist pretty hard to stick it without bubbles?
I installed Zagg's InvisibleShield on my HD and have no scratches anywhere even though I sometimes keep my phone with my keys. Took more than an hour to install, but it is a perfect fit now. No bubbels, just a shiny back. The rubbery feel went away after +/- 3 weeks of use by the way. I'd recommend this over any silicone or plastic casing.
PS. Before you order, Google for some Zagg discount codes. Some save you up to 50%, others 15%. Any discound is good, ey?

It took me about 2 hours to apply all (never installed full protection ever before) but I did manage to do a good job. I think I may have 2-3 bubbles on those tight corners but it never bothered me because I don't see it (everything except the screen is covered with the silicon case) i dont think I will remove the silicon case as I really believe my HD is safer with it.

Certainly not if you have scratches but it does work to remove pollish traces with a white plastic rubber - that even works on a car.

Screen Protector - to be or not to be?

Hey guys, please vote here - who use screen protector with own TP2
And those who use, please describe here who is the manufacturer of your screen protector and your experience, how good is it for you.
Most recent HTC devices have come with pretty good screen protectors included in the box. I didn't use a screen protector on my first device, and I'm not making that mistake again.
anyone knows why they don't install it from the factory?
I voted and i own an x1. I use.
I've seen threads like this before and I've always wondered why there is even a debate on this topic. Why would anyone not use a screen protector?
My theory: The next person you see using a touch screen device with no screen protector, probably doesn't use one because he messed it up when applying it on the device.

well the picture quality without it is much better, isn't it? I have now 3M protector on my HTC herald, and it doesn't look as clean as without it.
You should use the Crystal Clear type. You sometimes don't even noticed that it's being installed.

That's true, but when you use your device for some months without any protector, it will never be so clear as with a screenprotector (that you can replace when needed )
Ranney
Based on what I read in the accessories forum, I decided to try a Martin Fields one. Had it on for 2 days now - so far, so good. The one that came with the phone kept peeling off at the bottom edge near the buttons.
I didn't bother with my Vario III, as the ones I tried seriously affected the screen responsivness. Of course it got a key scratch in the first 3 months:-(
On my TP2 I installed the supplied one, and will get a Martin Fields one.
However I've got to return the unit (dodgy radio), so it is vital not to scratch it before returning it!
I messed upp my original screen protector
So i bought the Copter screenprotector from Skalshop.se it's a bit rubbery, but other than that it works good. It came with some liquid spray for aplying the protection. A bit tricky to apply but worked good in the end.
Martin Fields - where from you guys are buying them? I don't see them at ebay for TP2
also - are they really the BEST? or they just have the highest price?
The store from which I bought my TP2 gave me another screen protector - I haven't used the one that came with the device. Probably cost them less than US$1-2 to buy in bulk - I never pay more than US$8 for one retail
Using the one supplied with the evice and it works perfetly (I was against screen protetors when I had a Hermes, but with TP I can barely see it)
I once had a device and when I applied the screen protector I hated it. It improved sunlight visibility by refracting the light, unfortunately this made it harder to read fine print on the screen. I also couldn't remove the protector and was stuck with it. Another one I had tried before that one which was removable, reduced sensitivity too much.
Those are reasons not use one. But as long as the available protectors can be removed in case you don't like them, then it's worth trying them out. That way you don't risk your screen unecessarily.

That's right! I use it and it's better than the one that HTC gives us: I have a new one because it was removed while in my pocket.. But now I'm happier!
I´m using touchscreen phones for many years (since my first PALM ) and i´ve noticed that the new screens are much more resistent. I think that you loose quality if you use a screen protector.
Just don´t put your phone in the same pocket that coins, keys,... and use it´s cover when putting it in a bag.
one other advantage with a phone like this should you choose not to use a screen protector is that since the phone has such a large screen and it's so touch optimized you won't get as much wear and tear on the common points of contact (like the "e" on the onscreen keyboard).
I use Proporta Screen Protectors. After I had used then in my Asus P535 I do not want another brand. They protect very well the screen, they were washable and also doesn't change too much the sensation of the touch with the pen or even with fingers.
I dont use one for a few reasons. I dont put my TP2 in any pocket with coins etc. I am pretty careful with it.
Although most importantly im insured on it, accidental damage w/ no excess to when the time comes it gets a bit dodgy ill smash it up and get a new one. If ive still got the TP2 when my contract runs out/upgrade ill probably wap a screen protector on then.

Chrome Shell

During a mtb-trip the TP2 accidently fell out of my back pocket and got heavily scratched on the chrome shell just outside of the LCD screen. (thank god the screen got protected by the screen protector)
Would it be possible to replace this Chrome Shell and if so where to buy it?
thx
That chrome shell is apparently called a bezel (didn't know that - am not a native speaker) and that made searching quite a bit easier.
Ebay did the trick:

Chromed plastic
can we install this chrome bezle on the tmobiel version?
I doubt you can put it on the t-mobile version. Their version seems to be more square at the edges. But this is cool for the rest of the versions, I could put this on my sprint one when I get it.
This is only the front side right?
I'm kind of looking for a back cover. I've found one at cnn.cn but it contained both for the price of $90 approx.
Random question I hope I got this in the right thread
Has anyone ever bought a new shell for there whole phone and assembeled it themselves?
As i saw this on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/for-HTC-Touch...s_JN?hash=item45ed6fbded&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
I thought it looked kind of cool and a good way to personalise your phone but i have no idea how hard this would be, any ideas?
Thanks
Rather than get a new one for 30 sumthing bucks, why don't you remove it, sand it and then have it painted black or even chrome?
It'll cost you a lot lesser. A black unbranded HTC TP2 should look awesome. The one from Verizon looks killer.
Have you ever done this? What sort of paint would you use? I don't think this would work as well as you think it would...

I'm not. I would suspect vinyl dye is what you want.
All those "OEM" replacement housings and such are crap.
They never fit like the original.
Think twice before trying to replace something like that, there are alot of little pieces and flat cables.
I`ve been modding playstations and such for years so i`m experienced to say the least but I wouldnt risk my tp2 for it.
ive tried this with my old phone...
it does not work well.. i tried with different kinds of paint, primer, sealer, clear coated afterwards... it doesnt work
the plastic housing we have and can get are dyed into the plastic.. its not painted or coated..
the minute you put it in your pocket or it hits your keys or something.. it will chip off...
i have the tmobile version....i thought i had got permanent marker on the gold part of the phone, but do any of u know if it is black paint under the gold?
i was thinking of getting a battery cover and spraying it black. Would it work?
i have painted alot of mobiles luckly for me my m8s dad owns a car paint factory i spreyed one chrome and used 2pac laqueer on the top ot was minted i may chrome my whole tp2 i am gonna w8 till warrenty runs out
anyone has experience with assemling/disassembling this chrome shell..?
i've got a big scratch/dent and i would like too buy a new one but it seems like it's pretty too get it off.. let alone getting the new one on, in one piece
Tilt 2 chrome bezel
Anyone know of a source for the chrome bezel on my AT&T Tilt 2?
Ron
Calif
I want to install the AT&T's Chrome frame on my Sprint phone and was just wandering if I buy the bezel does it include the power button? and if not does anyone know where I can get it?
