Get cheap Royaltek RTG 2000 TMC+Sirf III GPS (Germany) - Touch HD Accessories

After a lot of research, found a cheap and effective TMC solution at ebay:
http://shop.ebay.de/items/?_nkw=roy...ksid=m270.l1313&_odkw=royaltek+2000&_osacat=0
(Stand Feb 17 2009)
The devices are being auctioned at around 33€. Works great, especially in Switzerland.

Excuse my n00b question, but how does this TMC actually work? Is it possible to receive free traffic information trough this device in the Netherlands?

Sure, why not. Free TMC is no problem with igo8 navigation software.

Does anyone have an RTG-2000 they no longer need? Contact me via PM.

FAX

I would like to use my XDA to FAX directly to any number. Not using any kind internet service like printeron.com
Do the T-Mobiles have this capability?
Thanks in advance.
8)
There's a program called 'KSE TrueFax' for PocketPC. It was made to talk to Hayes modems, but they did create a version for this device. It never really left beta though, since (my guess), there were too many different ROM versions with different RIL-dll properties, and too many providers, like O2-nl , block fax calls for some yet-to-be-understood reason.
Modem for FAX???
Does the XDA comes with a modem integrated or not, I would like to send my faxes just dialing to a fax number directly from my xda, without using external modems or things like that.
Yes, there's an integrated modem. But normally, applications can only talk to it using a mechanism called 'TAPI'. It is also a hayes modem, but only if you use some special tricks.
What application would you like to use to send the faxes?
I will use any application that you tell me, I have a T-Mobile
PPC Phone.
I already downloaded the KSE but as a Hayes Modem it goes straight to find a com port.

I have been using O2 xda Truefax ver. 2.03.03 for sending and receiving fax. You can download it at www.myxda.com
You will need to activate a fax line with your provider.
The only problem is that it would not auto answer and turn off the phone while execution. Once the operation is completed, the phone will come on again. Very inconvenient if you have pin on. I find that sending fax is ok but very bad success rate on receiving.
Hope this help.
Thanks but this only works with CABLES attached to my XDA, I am looking to send a fax at a construction site where there are no cables. I would like to use my XDA as a stand alone solution. I HATE CABLES. I need to know how to set it up to send faxes, I would like to know the TRICKS.

Hi, I forgot to mention, it is a software, no cable needed. Download the trial version. So far it keeps my job going when I needed an urgent fax.
You need to activate a fax line with your mobile phone provider, similar to your data line ( not land line !). It is quite cool.
How do you set the phone to work?, which modem?, any special preferences?.
Thanks

This version of TrueFax is specially designed for O2 xda. You do nothing, it will port itself to Com#2, and set the strings. You just fax !
Down load the trial, I am sure you will be delighted.
You must have fax feature activated by your mobile provider. They will assign you a different mobile fax number.

Hi cchia,
Which mobile phone provider you are using now? :?:
I am using MAXIS fax service. And I have been having a severe problem sending the fax since 3 months ago. In fact, I had tried it in a very strong signal. 90% fail to send.
The problems I encountered are:
1. Read timeout on serial port. Line dropped.
2. Will not work with certain fax machine.
3. Not all pages can be sent in one time. Especially, if certain part of the page is blank.

TrueFAX download source
You said TrueFAX can be downloaded from mypda.com, but unfortunately that's only for US users  , I suppose: They ask for your device's IMEI number, and if you don't have a valid one: Goodbye .
Is there a source for non-US XDA-owners who also want to use their device as a fax machine? :?:
Martin
I'm in the US and put my IMEI number and what not knowing it was probably an auto response email system, and....they sent the link to me.
Now for the bad news. If your are running an incarnation of 2003 once installed it will kill your power switch  i.e. once you turn the phone off the power switch will not turn it back on nor any of the buttons. You have to do a soft reset :x
Give ut a try though if you're brave 8) I already looked all through the reg to see if I could find and fix this little setting as a result of install, but no luck

Change languaje of HTC Hermes/SoftBank X01HT

I want to know is there is a possibility to Flash the HTC Hermes of Softbank:

And change JAPANESE the ROM to English (or Spanish) one.

Beware the X01HT from SoftBAnk uses Bootloader 1.06. Basically that means that flashing it is impossible unless a fix for the bootloader issue is found. I just found out that I am stuck with Japanese now too

I had plans to go this afternoon to buy one What is this problem? I was looking in the forum but I couldn't find anything about it
The problem is that with Bootloader 1.04 the update software did not check the vendor ID of the Hermes. That meant that you could update a e.g. Cingular model with a T1 ROM or use a ROM with a different language.
Hermes that have Bootloader 1.06 (like the SoftBank X01HT) nocw ckeck that ID and won't let you update with a ROM from a different vendor....
Before you buy it, you can check mine if you are in Tokyo....
Yes, I'm living in Tokyo
So, is not possible to flash it Is there any post that speak about if they're researching to fix this issue?
Anyway, I don't speak many NIHONGO. Do you know any way to make it work in English (or almost English) ??
Other thing. I read in the Web that this model can't handle MMS. I imagine that it's because they didn't put a MMS program there. Could you make MMS work in your model?
Thanks for all!
Sesaru
Sorry for my late response here - I'd say currently there is no (easy) way to use a different ROM of the SoftBank model. I wil require somebody to come up with a solution for that, but that may take time. I'll go to the SoftBank store on the weekend to see if they plan to come up with an English model.
Right now, the unit will work in Japanese and Japanese only, no way you can get it to work in English as far as I can say at the moment.
MMS also does not work, so you are restricted to SMS. I am myself contemplating taking it back (I made an arrangement with the SoftBank people last Saturday to try how far I can get...) and get me a unit form Singapore.
So, if you are not comfortable with the restrictions, I'd rather advise to wait with the purchase. Let's see how DoCoMo will handle this...
Some more points:
You cannot use it currently as a wireless modem for your laptop (that's disabled)
There is no MSN chat on the unit (disabled too)
Outlook is fully restricted to SMS, I could not get pop or imap access to any other mail account to work.
I had the opportunity right now to compare a frirends DOPOD variation - he bought in Singapore. e uses it while visiting here utilizing his Singapore SIM roaming. On his, all functions work, including wireless modem, etc.
In my opinion, SoftBank did a great job in crippling the X01HT to the extent that it is less functional than an odinary Japanese 3G phone. My best advise is to buy a unlocked in Singapore or Taiwan. Alternatives on the Japanese market are the Wilcom units (but agreed, they are big and ugly compared to the sleek X01HT)
Hope that helps...

That's impossible. Softbank is removing all the staff for gaijins that Vodafone put here. For example, now WAP (Yahoo! Keitai) don't have any in English (I used the "last train" opcion a lot in the past).

You can still get that - on you phone, start the browser, the second left icon on the top and you are back on the old page where you can find the 'English' link at the botoom. But I agree, SoftBank is a huge step away from opening Japan to the West....
I probably have the chance to travel to Singapore within the next 3 weeks and will check the price there. I got friends in Singapore as well as in Taiwan and China who could ship the unit to me...
Hi!

Outch, this is expensive, considering that I got mine here as an update deal for my old mobile for something around $150-US... so I should not worry about the restrictions too much... ;-) I now managed to get Gmail up and running in mobile Outlook, so the SoftBank model becomes more and more practical.
What I still do not understand is why they disabled using it as a modem - that is really the single biggest drawback for me. The modem applet is simply not there and without it, dialup from my laptop via Blootooth does not work. It works fine with the same SIM in a Vodafone 3G phone, so I conclude it must e the missing modem app...
BTW, as an anectode - I recall the street price I saw in Taipei 3 weeks ago must have been somewhere near US-$ 400.--
Thanks for the link though!

Can I install English OS on Softbank X10HT and continue to use it with SB Contract?

I am a newbie to pocket PCs, this is my first post here. I’m sure most of you must have heard of the Softbank X01HT by now. I would like to buy this phone/Pocket PC and use it with English OS (since I am a foreigner and my Japanese is very poor). But unfortunately Softbank only sells the Japanese version, I talked with one of their support staff, but she said that they don’t provide English version.
So I am wondering now; is there a way to install the English OS and still use it in Japan with the Softbank contract? . I went through the first few pages of HOWTO: change a Softbank X01HT from Japanese to English, if I follow those instructions will I still be able to use it with the contract? Where is the programmed contract information stored ? Wont I erase it thereby render the phone useless if I flash the ROM? I am assuming that they don’t use a SIM card (GSM) since all other normal Softbank phones use CDMA. But I am little bit confused here.. isn’t this same as iMate JASJAM (which doesn’t have CDMA , only GSM ?).
As I said before I am a total newbie so please bare with my noob questions
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated Thanks.
yes you can but not recommended for now. read this thread about the issue and you should wait and see how things turn out.

I cant read Japanese (especially Kanji). So is there any other work around to use this phone in English ? I still haven’t bought it but want to buy soon. Does anyone think Softbank will release an English version ?

you should check the sofbank plans first. they have a flat-rate data plan you may want to subscribe to in order to conserve the monthly cost. for that, you have to use the access point named open. we all know how to set up that connection using open and using it now however softbank doesn't like that and they will change it to a different access point that requires their new rom itself to set up. if you have a x01ht flashed with an english rom, you cannot use that new access point from apr 1 for the flat-rate data plan and that is our problem.
that's what it is in a nutshell...
Thanks, I am not familiar with all of their plans (I currently use AU by KDDI). I will be getting an Orange plan and their normal web package for internet. Because I’m not planning to use the internet a lot over Softbank connection. I have access to wireless connections almost everywhere in the university (where I spend most of my time) and in my apartment, so I will be using wireless for internet most of the time.

and to some extents I find it rather pathetic that Softbank ignores the need for non-Japanese OS on the Hermes. Nevertheless, Vodafone (= now Softbank) had been the vendor of choice for foreigners living in Japan for their mobile communication needs for years now, up to the extent that major foreign corporations had beed standardizing on issuing Vodafone phones as company phones. That SoftBank just ignores this need is something I cannot really understand. Is is just that they are unable to sell an English OS unit or are they actually unwilling to do so...?

i tend to agree with all that, but in fact all their 3g phones are equiped with japanese/english biligual interface except for x01ht. this is just my speculation but i think they didn't have a choice for that as wm5 is not capable of providing biligual interface. this is the same with docomo and their htc z is also sold just with the japanese os although they made the bilingual interface possible on their motorola m1000 symbian uiq device.
i believe they did have the option of selling english wm5 x01ht with a different stock number but they probably dropped that considering the market size compared to the japanese x01ht. it's a pity if that was the case...

However, as easy as it is for them to drop a firmware update on their site for new network information, you think it would be just as easy to make available an English official Softbank rom. Wouldn't that be a show of good faith.

I definitly agree here - basically SB is hurting itself with not supporting English on the X01HT. Everytime I walk by a SB store I see Westerners scratching their heads because they'd like to get the unit by shy away because of the Japanese OS. Bringing phone/pda's to consumers (as opposed to DoCoMo that keeps it to corp. customers) could help SB regaining market share, especially important since they struggle financially after the Vodafone aquisition. So I wonder what's keeping them become 'the' market leader for foreigners in Japan...? I hardly can believe that it is just the language barrier that is keeping them from posting a English SB ROM for the X01HT. If that's really it, I think there would be volunteers helping them with that...

GPS outside USA, Canada

Forgive my ignorance regarding GPS devices....
I live in the Middle East and I see the current thread regarding Bluetooth GPS devices for the G tablet. Before I buy one of the mentioned devices, has anyone been using them outside the US? Or better yet, if someone can tell me if they will work outside the US/Canada, I'd appreciate it.

GPS signal can be picked up in the middle east without a problem.
The real problem is finding the maps, if you can be sure that whatever application you are going to use on the GTab for the GPS navigation will have maps for your location then you should be fine with any of these BT GPS's.
By the way, the ebay seller mentioned on the other thread wont ship internationally, your best bet is finding an Asian listing, there is tons of BT based GPS to be had there.
Best of luck,
A quick look at the Android market had some apps that said they were worldwide apps so I may be in luck. If anyone has used an app in Kuwait, please let me know.
Thanks for the info!

I bought a GT-I9100P Orange branded handset on Ebay. Rooted and unlocked it and using it on TMU. Aside from scanning my PayWave VISA card (which is encrypted - so nothing interesting to find) there's little use for NFC in the UK. Orange have a "Treats" app allowing their customers to get free food in EAT at the moment. That's about it... Google Wallet / VISA payWave / MasterCard PayPass are not available in the UK (yet) and even Orange's own QuickTap payment platform isn't available for their GT-I9100P though is available on two Samsung Bada OS phones... I get the impression I paid more for the P model for no good reason. That said I'm resolved to wait for the carrier firmware update. There's too many issues with Root access and payment platforms and also NFC compatibility with AOSP or non-GT-I9100P dedicated ROMs.
FWIW CheckFUS shows 4 GT-I9100P models - France (Orange), Italy (TIM), Slovenia (Mobitel) and UK (Orange). None yet have a ICS ROM.
